Sauce that is poured over the Happy Boat
    Jennifer B.

My friend and I drove to Airway Heights to try out Sala Thai. This restaurant wasn't on our original list of places to try, but when I saw them post one of their dishes on Facebook, I immediately sent it to my friend and we both agreed we were going there next! Next happened to be last night. What we ordered was what they call "Happy Boat" with Salmon, Shrimp, and Scallops (extra shrimp for my friend and no scallops). Let me say that it was sensational and we were both very happy we were able to try it. It does come with a side of jasmine rice (not pictured). The service was great and they even offered my friend a Diet Coke to go when we were getting ready to leave. Restaurant was clean, even the restrooms. They do close fairly early though, which does make it difficult for those that like to dine later (7:30 Tuesday thru Saturday) and are closed Sundays and Mondays.

Quiet restaurant outside of downtown Spokane and the food is pretty good, definitely somewhere I'd eat again. Ordered the Yellow Curry 0 spice and although it wasn't my favorite it's still much better than many I've had. There was a particular taste I couldn't quite pin down with the curry but all the veggies and meat were cooked perfectly. Opted for no spice as the nice waiter told me they use authentic Thai chilis so 1 star will still be VERY hot (I didn't want to risk it). The spring roll was also nothing special but tasted fresh and was a nice refreshing snack. Thai iced tea was pretty normal and nothing special to it. I would go back and try other dishes though. PS if you want Yellow Curry during lunch, just ask for it since it's on the dinner menu but not the lunch menu.

Panang Curry, Pad Kee Mao, Yum Gai Tod

We have been here twice in two weeks and both times it was SO good. We will be back regularly. The Thai iced coffee is addictive, the yum gai tod and the panang curry were amazing. We've tried 8 different menu items so far and loved all. A 1* is a good level of spice!

The food was excellent, but beware of the heat of level 1. I like spicy food, but it was a little too spicy for level one. It seemed a bit pricey, too.

Menu, Spice leve 1 is medium.

The food was good, the Panang Curry was AMAZING! I'm a white guy and was disappointed in their idea of the spice levels. They did nothing but confuse me. So they say, their level 1 is a medium; so stick to level one. (1) I did NOT find that to be true in ALL the meals. The Panang Curry was a perfect spice level. Sadly the Spicy Summer although a decent dish lacked flavor and little to NO spice! It did taste good with Panang Curry poured all over it! But we wanted variety. And lastly, the Siam Crispy Chicken, served in the pineapple bowl, although an amazing photo it was swimming in a sugary overly sweet sauce, something similar to an orange chicken at Panda Express. I was most disappointed especially since that's on their menu photos and it came highly recommended from someone who had eaten it before. The service was great. The male waiter who's name I have forgotten was excellent, he was prompt and patient with us, he did provide recommendations. We commonly eat Thai food elsewhere and I'm still confused why they stick to the one is medium script at this location. The ambiance is quaint. I was surprised, the outside of the location didn't blow me away and gave me some slight concern, it's also very simple inside. Not gaudy or amazingly elegant. Simple would be my best description. I would give this restaurant another chance but I would definitely ask for a 2 or possibly a 3 for my spice level in certain dishes. Again that's hard to gage because the Panang Curry was perfect spice and AMAZING!

Do not underestimate their spicy level. Lol i was sweating/dying because i ordered 5 star spicy old guy...... i normally order 5 star at every restaurant i go (especially in spokane) because my taste buds are probably broken. But man, i did not expect it to be this spicy. Lol i meant the food was good though and service was nice (foods do seem to come out a bit slow)... but next time i will just have to watch out my spicy level Inside is pretty big and spacious so its great for a big group!

The curry's are really good, prices are a little spendy so don't expect this to replace your cheap takeout.

Amazing!!!!!! This review is long overdue…read more True hidden gem of a restaurant. I am from the Tri cities and when I come I head directly here. The wings are out of this world. The fried rice is sooo good. I ordered with Shrimp and it was just yummy. And to top it off I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Indonesian dessert -Banana Lumpia. Not a big banana guy but trust me you will love it. I've been begging the owner who is so nice and so positive to come down to the Tri cities. Also their Pho is what I usually get but now with the fried rice. It is now my favorite dish.

Okay for the prices I was expecting great portions but they were just not there…read more We got two starters, bao buns and the lucky budda rolls. The lucky budda rolls were delicious! It was vegetables and herbs and pork wrapped in rice paper. It was really refreshing and the sauces; peanut, sambal, and chili were so good! But they were 14 dollars and barely had any pork... The bao buns were good, the pork belly being really great. The bun itself was not great, but the sauce in the bao made up for it. But it was 12 DOLLARS for TWO small sized bao buns! The kalbi was tender and really nicely charred. The flavors were nice with a sweetness that paired well with the smoky flavor and was probably the best dish over all. The bombay chicken also had a really nice flavor, but was so dry it was nearly impossible to eat. I got the ko moo yang which is a marinated pork dish. The flavor wasn't exceptional - it was also dry. We did get sides; marinated greens, egg, radish, and noodles but the portions sizes for them were comically small. I swear there were 6 macaroni noodles. The Thai tea was overly sweet and this was mentioned-! they only had coconut milk and told us that but it was so chunky, a sort of curdle milke texture, it was hard to suck through the straw. Our service was very slow and a member of my party had mentioned that she didn't eat spicy food and so the server didn't bring over hot sauce for the rest of the party who do eat spicy? Plus it was very slow moving which was strange because there was no one there, like it took ten minutes for two drinks which were sodas. We arrived there around 3pm and left around 5pm. It didn't have interesting decor but the windows did allow a lot of natural light out. While I didn't pay attention two members of my party noticed that while the lobby was clean - the kitchen wasn't.

Having said that, I will add that the food is wonderfully prepared. Blended with delicious fresh flavors, with vibrantly balanced by sweet, sour, salty, spicy and bitter. The service was exceptional! Our server Tony was incredibly friendly. He smiled from the moment he came to our table. A young man reflecting appreciation for his job by making his clients feel welcomed. My wife ordered the Glass Noodle Salad (zero stars) and I had the Chicken Pad Thai (three stars). She enjoyed her salad, but the photo is accurate with only two shrimp in it. That does fit the literal description of the salad, but it would have been nice with a couple more. She had the ginger dressing instead of the 'spicy' one in the description and enjoyed it. My Pad Thai was fine, but it kind of had a burnt or overdone taste. I couldn't place it, but there was definitely something off. My three stars did not seem to hit me with any heat. Another letdown for us was that it took a long time for our food to come out, but they were putting a lot of food delivery orders out. It's frustrating that finite amount of people in the restaurant are delayed by a potentially unlimited amount of app orders. The prices were a bit higher than a couple of our favorite Thai places in Spokane.

I'm not sure what the benefit is of paying for a large takeout pho, because the portion sizes don't seem consistent with the price. The large comes in the same container with about the same amount of noodles, maybe just a few extra slices of beef. The "large" broth is in a slightly bigger container, but that's about it. I remember ordering pho and having enough leftovers for another meal, but now it's easy to finish a large in one sitting. The fried spring rolls are $11.95 for 5 or 6 rolls, which also feels steep. It would be nice if they offered a half order for single diners. Being charged $1-$2 for extra basil, sprouts, lime, or jalapeños also feels unnecessary given the overall pricing. Small touches like that would go a long way in making customers feel valued. I also went in for pickup recently and noticed the preset tip options were 30%, 40%, and 50%, which felt excessive for a takeout order. As someone who works in the restaurant industry and typically tips generously, I was honestly caught off guard. I ended up not tipping because I was so taken aback by the options, which isn't normally how I handle tipping. It just felt unreasonable. That said, the pho itself is terrific. The flavor is consistently great, which is why I keep coming back. I genuinely hope the business reads its reviews and takes them seriously, because a few adjustments would make a big difference. I would honestly order much more often if portion consistency and ordering options, like adding extra broth on DoorDash, were improved.
