It was my 1st time coming to this location. They have a parking lot but you have to pay for parking. Make reservations so you're able to snag a table quickly, otherwise you'll have to wait. I love the food here. It's never a disappointment when I dine here. I usually go to their other location outside of Atlanta. It's a fast pace environment but they keep up well. The chicken pad Thai is normally delicious but my last take out purchase was flavorless and dry. It was a Friday night and I was busy over the weekend so I called first thing Monday morning letting them know the situation (I couldn't even finish the meal). I was told it would be brought up to the manager and they'd see what they'd be willing to do. Two days passed so I made a follow up call and spoke to the manager. He said he would not do anything for me because I initially called on Monday instead of over the weekend or day of. Then he hung up on me. Real professional. This place is wonderful. They have been around for 10 years. The owners are from Thailand and bring really authentic good quality and inexpensive dishes to the table. I absolutely love the drunken noodles and the Pad Thai curry. Kow pad sala is excellent too. I highly recommend this place if you are around the Lake Orion area. Definitely stop in. Really flavorful Thai food and always consistent. Good sized portions and very reasonably priced. Everything we have tried (something different every time we go) has been extremely good. pad Thai, Crazy Noodles, Curry Dishes, Duck, Tom Yum, Thai Salads...all very tasty. Our first time here was yesterday- We were happy to find a Thai place open on Sunday. It is small inside, but they got to us quickly, and food came pretty quickly. It was very warm inside, but maybe they just didnt have the air on. The ice machine didnt work so the pop was lukewarm, but food and service made up for it. Disappointed in the sushi. I got my first takeout order today: spicy tuna, cucumber roll, and the Sala Thai Crunch roll. The crunch roll was crunchy and the asparagus was fresh, but otherwise bland, no sign of the spicy sauce mentioned in the description. The cucumber roll was falling apart at the seams, but otherwise tasted like cucumber. The Spicy tuna roll was not very spicy, and didn't actually taste like much of anything. I was also surprised at the packaging of the order, they put the warm crunch roll in the same bag as the raw tuna roll. Otherwise, the hostess was very nice. Typically, I go to new Thai places based on the number (and quality) of Yelp reviews. Being that Sala Thai is less than 5 minutes from where I'm staying in LO, I opted to go for convenience tonight, even if it meant risking potential quality. It turns out that my quality fears were unfounded, and Sala Thai turned out some pretty solid food. I went with the Gaeng Phaneang with Chicken--which I'm pretty sure is just a more confusing way of saying "chicken panang curry". I ordered it "mild +" and it was the absolute PERFECT amount of heat for me, the most perfect I've ever had. As a result, it was among the best Thai entrees I've had. I'd highly recommend this dish. I also ordered the "Golden Shrimp Rolls" aka deep fried shrimp. $5.25 for 4 measly fried shrimp, eh, not quite what I had in mind. I guess I should have read, and interpreted, the menu more clearly. I guess the reason why this place gets 3 stars instead of 4 is the price. My entree was $11--and it was probably the smallest entree I've ever gotten from a Thai restaurant. Sala Thai is just one of many Thai places in the over-saturated Lake Orion/Oxford area, but it manages to stand out because of its great flavor and consistency. I've tried almost all the Thai places around and Sala has grown on me as my favorite, along with Bangkok Thai in Rochester. My favorite dishes are Drunken Noodle, Gaeng Gai, Pad Ped and Pad Thai. Sala does well with both noodle and rice dishes, and their curry is very flavorful and spicy (depending on your preferred spice level). The interior is pretty basic Thai restaurant layout, although I suspect most of their business comes through take-out. My only complaint about the interior is a flat screen TV that takes away from the atmosphere. I ate there once when they were playing Transformers, and it was just distracting. Of course it seems all restaurants need televisions these days, for whatever reason. I would recommend Sala - the flavor is great and I've never gotten something that I didn't like. You'll end up paying a couple bucks more per dish than the average Thai place, but I would still take it for the taste. If it were a little bit cheaper, I would consider giving this place 5 stars. And if they got rid of that TV. read more

This place has been open for a couple months. My daughter and I saw it while driving down Lapeer Road and, always on the look out for a good Thai place, we tried their carry out. Although we didn't eat in, the interior of the restaurant looked charming. (Also, they have a sushi bar, but we didn't try it.) We ordered pad thai mild, kow pad medium, and a couple spring rolls. The food was well prepared and tasted very good, although I could do without the tomatoes in the kow pad. I had the fried rice and it was spicy! It's always tough to know how hot and spicy the food is at a new restaurant, and this was no exception. Next time (and there will be a next time), I think I'll order the kow pad mild. read more

The last 2 times in 2 weeks I had a complaint that I did call them on, not wanting any type refund or future discount, only to make them aware. The guy I spoke to couldn't have cared less about it but I brushed it off. 7 days later, now, I ordered what I always do, showed up and it was the same guy and the order was unacceptable, like before & nothing close to what I ordered. He dismissed my concerns and did not want to discuss the easily resolved issue, when I asked to talk to a manager, he said he was the manager, then I asked for the owners number, he said he was the owner. I left without my order & will NEVER order there again & will tell everyone of my experience. The Wonton was 1 huge ball of dough & the Pad Thai with Beef, add Scallops had 2 small pieces of beef and zero scallops...similar both times. Phone 248 693 1398) for a carry out and asked for 3 orders of seafood fried rice......which costing 12.95 each. Wait person gives me my tab totaling over 59.00. Wait person asks me "Is this good"?? "Is this good"?? I asked why am I being charged so much over 38.85 plus tax. An additional 20.15??? Was added in 6.00 increments. She responds "Seafood is very expensive" I respond "I'm well aware of that and I'm willing to pay for my order. I just discovered Thai food and I've been hooked. We typically go to Thai Cuisine in Oxford but thought we would give Sala Thai a try. The dining room was very quaint, I loved the booths that were raised up off the ground. We ordered chicken pad thai, crab rangoon and coconut ice cream. We also received a free cup of hot and sour soup. It came in a very, very small cup, think shot glass :) It was flavorful and delicious. The crab rangoon arrived and they were really good as well, hot, crunchy and lots of flavor inside. The chicken pad thai was very disappointing. The portion was small, much less than we get a Thai Cuisine. It was completely flat, no variances of flavors. It was just boring. My daughter had the coconut ice cream and it was pretty good. Overall, it was an ok visit but we probably won't be back. If I could get Sala Thai's crab rangoon at Thai Cuisine in Oxford, like would be perfect. read more
