I was craving a hearty meal after a very long and difficult yoga session earlier in the day. I was literally starving, and wanted something close, quick and a place I hadn't tried before. After scouring the "usual" spots, I decided on Thai Inn for a change of pace. Their located in a strip mall off Rochester Road and Avon with other businesses. Walking in, the place had nobody in it! There was a nice lady who was watching a show on her ipad and getting stuff together for later. She told me to sit anywhere, so I did. The menus pretty good with pricing that wasn't going to drill a hole in my wallet for once. LOL. I ordered crab rangoon with some drunken noodles and a water since I needed hydration. They were kind of stingy on the sweet and sour sauce with the rangoons, but the noodles were actually quite good. I stuck with the mild sauce, and it was good. I could taste the spices as they were subtle and not overpowering, but spicy enough that it gave the dish some flavor and depth. It's definitely not a fancier place, but the food was good and I didn't have to wait. The lady who helped me was pleasant and I really enjoyed her time. It was nice to have a nice quiet lunch for once without the hustle and bustle to decompress after a long week at work and the gloomy weather outside. read more

The pad Thai is soooo good here! I tried them out for the first time yesterday and portions were large, food was ready in 15mins for a carryout which was great. Only bummer were the crab and shrimp Rangoons- there was no crab or shrimp in sight in any of the five that came in the order; should be called cream cheese Rangoons. Seats 70 people inside with a full bar and does daily specials that come with a spring roll and soup. Overall a good takeout spot if you're in the area! read more

Recently I picked up two entrees (Garlic noodles with chicken and Curry noodles) along with Tom Yum soup. A stark reminder just how good the Thai Inn food is. I don't even know where to start regarding the extremely poor customer service that I received. The food was just ok, but the attitude of our server really created a not so pleasant experience. I called in to place an order but decided to dine in. The server pointed to the only table without a table cloth that was visibly dirty and insisted that this "was the only table available". Even after she saw me grabbing my hand wipes to wipe down the table she sat back and said nothing. They are open until 8:30pm for dine-in today. It's in a shopping plaza. It's short staff. We seated ourselves. Mostly carry out orders coming through. We were given some attention after some more folks picked up there food orders. Ordered curry noodle with chicken and steamed tofu and added veggies and chicken lemongrass, steamed tofu with added mushrooms and two fresh chicken summer rolls. The fresh summer roll was just ok. The peanut sauce is quite sweet, tasted like a honey peanut sauce or something like it. Would have been better with some crunchy romaine and maybe some mint and jalapeños too. The lemongrass sauce is quite odd, can't decide if I like it or not. The chicken isn't super lean, fatty bits throughout. Not sure the green beans do it for me in this dish. The curry noodle is so-so. The noodles are thick like drunken noodle thick. The curry noodle veggies are green pepper and peas, rather odd. Nice and spicy at least. Still looking for that go to Thai in Rochester area. I had high hopes after hearing a couple people talk highly about their experience here. Unfortunately for me and my daughter we had our go to place, but it closed, out in Romeo that we would drive to and compare everything to that. I tried the Hawaiian Fried Rice which I found to have a Smokey taste and was surprised it came with fried chicken vs grilled. The breading became soft and I believe would be better grilled. Also seemed to be missing a good seasoning or flavor vs flavorful Thai seasoning. Portion was huge and appreciated that but it was just missing something flavor wise to satisfy me as a great Thai dish. My daughter is used to getting a sweet and sour type chicken we have found at a few places with a stickier sauce and typically fried chicken chunks in sauce with white rice. This one was made with grilled chicken and swimming in a sauce that was more like a soup than sauce which she drained most of this to enjoy better. Came with numerous vegetables which she enjoyed but again seemed to be lacking flavor and was a bit bland. The crab Rangoon's we both loved, Crispy and full of cream cheese and crab. The spring roll was a bit too greasy for my liking. Our search goes on and this may be a good fit for you but didn't hit it for us. read more

Ordered pad Thai and miso soup. The pad Thai was very dry and bland. It was missing green onion and a wedge of lime, which was severely needed. The miso soup was also pretty blah, I could tell it had been put in a microwave to heat up, as there was a ring of foam dried around the edge. service was slow being we were the only people in there. read more

So I really hate to give a small business a bad review, but I just through out the majority of the dinner, which is a huge waste of 50 bucks, so I feel that I need to let everyone know how bad the food is. We ordered sweet-and-sour chicken, sesame chicken and six egg rolls. The sesame chicken was so over cooked!!! It was like a little hard little nuggets. The flavor of the sauce was good, but I had to throw the chicken out because it was inedible. The egg rolls were just cabbage filled-no flavor no little pieces of bean sprouts in shrimp in anything to make a tasty and the sweet-and-sour chicken was more like sweet and sour soup... a big bowl of slob. It was by chance I found them for a carry out. In business for over 30 years hidden in the corner of a strip center. I found my forever Thai local restaurant because they made a quick impression on so many levels of service and quality. I'm restricted for what I can eat currently and they not only brought it out for me to taste first before they wrapped it to carry out, they told me they use no sugar or msg to insure my concerns. I think they treat everyone like family and you can tell all the customers feel right at home. One customer called the wife "mom" as she was waiting on their table. Thai Inn is our Go-To Thai Restaurant since moving to Rochester Hills 2 years ago. The portions are generously sized, service is friendly and prompt and the price is reasonable. Our standard dinner order (~$37) is Tofu Pad Thai, beef Pad See Ewe, Gang Gai and Pineapple Fried Rice with Shrimp. These 4 dishes last our family of 2 adults and 2 young kiddos for two full dinners and enough for hubby to bring lunch to work the next day. One detail that is very important to us is the spice level of each dish since one of our daughters is sensitive to spice. I usually order the pad see ewe and pineapple fried rice with no spice, and we have thankfully never had an issue with the spice level on any dish. read more

Place itself if ok, standard table setting with everything you need (nothing fancy) to chow down on some food. If you are looking for friendly service this may not be the place for you. The waitress or maybe the owner was rushing and not necessarily rude but a bit aggressive when taking my order. All and all the food is really where my low rating is coming from. I ordered Red Curry chicken or Gang Gai and i swear i can taste dish soap in it. Chicken felt cheap as if canned chicken was used. The curry itself lacked flavor. Rice looked and tasted old. We've been trying new Thai places whenever we can get the chance. This one was a pretty big bust. So many good reviews but we don't know why. There are huge portions on the noodle dishes, maybe that's why. It's cheap too so that adds something. However the white rice we were given was so over cooked and clumpy it was a joke. No Asian place should ever serve rice like this. THROW IT OUT. All of us ended up eating the peanut curry and orange chicken without rice that's how overcooked, clumpy, and sticky it was. The peanut curry: great smell and flavor. We thought this was one of the best dishes we ordered. Drunken noodles: had a lot more veggies than most restaurants but the sauce was all stuck to the aluminum foil. It was good and we would order this again if we ate at this place. Pad se ew: this lacked flavor and like the drunken noodle the sauce was stuck to the aluminum foil. We wouldn't order this Orange chicken: 2 people thought this was good. One thought it was gross. The chicken had an odd texture and wasn't really deep fried or breaded. We wouldn't order this either. Spring rolls: they were okay. We also got spice on the side because we had toddlers eating with us. The spice was not that spicy. Had to add a lot. Usually the ground up spice is pretty hot. This wasn't. But that's okay. It was fun trying something new but we wouldn't visit this place unless we had to. There are plenty of better Thai places around. Plus I can't get over that rice. I don't even cook rice that bad. Tucked away in the corner of a plaza, me and my fiancé decided to drop in on a hot Sunday afternoon. We were not greeted and the only two customers in the restaurant. Generic country-pop music blared overhead as we waited for our Thai Iced Coffee and Green Tea Smoothie. A bug landed on my fiancé's neck. I spotted another fly immediately thereafter. Sketchy start. The drinks were refreshing, although my fiancé had to wait for the ice chunks to melt in order to enjoy most of the smoothie. The Thai iced coffee was refreshing and cold. Our food arrived promptly. Most everything was done promptly by the staff - not unfriendly. Fiancé ordered a Thai beef-based dish and peanut sauce, which was not as sweet as she's used to with her go-to Thai dishes. (I ordered sushi because, you know, millennials.) The Unagi roll was mostly starchy but warm and nevertheless pleasant. All food is very, very reasonably priced. If you're looking for Thai in a pinch like we were, just order takeout - it's a decent bang for your buck, but then feel free to move on with life. read more

Another review: ordered takeout from here through doordash. Got a spring roll, sweet and sour seafood soup, and spicy noodles. The soup was completely on its side, most likely due to the delivery driver's error, but the container's small plastic lid somehow kept closed. The spring roll was crispy and good, the soup way to massive for me to finish, and the spicy noodles were...just okay. They honestly lacked flavor and that might be because I forgot to select medium+ spice on my app, but they tasted like rice noodles in a plain brown sauce. I guess I'm more of a spicy curry person *shrugs*. The dish was very large and filled with veggies, so if you want something simple I'd go with it, but if you're looking for a drunken noodle equivalent this is not the dish. Also, not a complaint at all, but the seafood hot and sour soup is not my cup of tea. Thai inn's hot and sour is different from most because it tends to be sweeter and full of very fine noodles, which I love, and I think they use a lot of mirin sauce. The contrast between the saltiness of the shrimp/scallops/crab and the sweet broth did not mesh well. Ended up eating all the seafood separately from the soup and there was a large amount of seafood. I still think this is a place worth 5 stars, but I'm kind of disappointed with the noodles. Delicious Thai Noodle dishes. We have only done noodle dishes so far and they are very good! Definitely our go to place in the area for a nice Thai takeout dinner. Portions are HUGE which we love. My friend always orders food from here when we come over for dinner. Every time the food was delicious and the portion size was adequate. Pad Thai is my favorite dish and theirs is so good. I like how all their dishes are not overly sweet and they don't seem to skimp on the protein. Their fried rice has a mild taste which I enjoyed but some might disagree if you are seeking the stronger flavors that some fried rices have. The Thai Inn staff is very welcoming and accommodating. The menu is pretty typical and the dishes are a 4/5. Mild dishes have zero spice and Medium is spicy. The sauces are sweeter than typical, as well. The vegetables seem fresh, but I think they pre-cook the chicken and then flash cook it with sauce. That is one of the only issues that I had here. I eat here a lot. Its leagues above Bangkok when it comes to authentic thai dishes. Im a big fan of the Gang Gai. Its a coconut milk red curry with chicken and vegetables. The flavor is exactly what you'd expect. Nothing innovative but none-the-less tasty. Their food is a bit hotter than other restaurants, so go a level under what youd usually order. For example, if you like it hot get medium plus. The ladies that work here are divine. Super friendly and helpful. They are very knowledgeable and can walk you through the menu. The Pad Thai and Pad See-Ew here is excellent! There noodle dishes have an awesome authentic Thai flavor and the noodles are cooked to perfection. I'm not a huge fan of many Thai places but this is one of the few I enjoyed. The portions here were also great, you definitely get more than you pay for and that will keep me a happy reoccurring customer The only thing I didn't like was the falsity of their online menu... the prices on the menu were incorrect, and they didn't have an actual website, only a shared link..
