Newly remodeled and renovated still serving the SDSU college area! The menu is traditional Thai cuisine served in the beautiful indoor patio feel! Spices can be modified and served with organic tofu made fresh. Chera is your host and chef.

Hands down, Sala Thai has amazing food and amazing service! Walking into the restaurant, you're met with an amazing atmosphere. There are string lights illuminating the restaurant and sitting at a table, you feel not only cozy, but also at home. The staff here is also very friendly and make you feel super comfortable and welcomed in their establishment. Today I tried the yellow curry and the chicken khao soi, and needless to say, I would go back to try these dishes again. The yellow curry has a mild spice to it and it is more on the savory side and not overpowered by sweetness like other places. I ordered this dish with chicken, and they were not shy with the portion. It was also nice that the dish came with rice. The khao soi was also very tasty. It came with two chicken legs, noodles, and an array of garnishes. The soup base is their yellow curry, but it felt spicier than the yellow curry dish. With the addition of the lime, this dish was amazing and it had a refreshing aspect with the cilantro. Overall, this is a great and affordable restaurant if you're looking for a Thai restaurant that makes you feel at home.

Service here was outstanding. Locally owned restaurant and the workers were very passionate about providing the best service they can. They helped with recommendations and making sure we were set and happy the entire time. The food was great! I've had a lot of Pad See Ew before and was not disappointed at all. They were not cheap with the chicken and the taste was great. It was also very tastefully decorated and I was immediately impressed upon entering the restaurant. They are also opened late which was prefect for grabbing a bite to eat, especially since many places close early. I had a great experience and will be back!

I come here every week, best Thai food I've ever had. As a vegetarian, love the variety of options available; SDSU discount doesn't hurt either.

I love the ambiance at Sala Thai. Kudos to making the ambiance of your restaurant so lovely! With a lighted-up tree in the back of the restaurant it creates such a cozy and magical vibe!! Sala Thai's customer service is impeccable!! We always feel so welcomed at their restaurant. So very thankful for Sala Thai for cooking me "Mee Krob." Next time, I can't wait to try it with pork! My family loves Mee Krob and sadly we don't see it anymore in the Thai restaurants we've been accustomed to going. Other than that, I also want to say that I really enjoyed Sala Thai's version of "Tom kha kai" - Thai coconut soup. I was also glad that I tried their Pad Thai Noodles with pork. It was delicious!! Thank you so very much Sala Thai for the invitation to try several of your delectable dishes!! Sala Thai is now my favorite Thai restaurant in San Diego.

Sala Thai, a small spot on El Cajon Boulevard, was an absolute delight. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious. While it isn't a fancy place, the food and service are extraordinary. I'd give it a 10/10. If you're ever in the San Diego area, I highly recommend visiting this restaurant. It has a distinct atmosphere and a unique menu that makes it worth the trip. Gil Tower

Christian, our server, was so friendly and helpful! The ambiance is so vibey after their remodel and I really enjoyed the beautiful presentation of their dishes. I tried their tofu pad sew ew and chicken panaang curry. Both were tasty and the right amount of spice. I will absolutely be back again soon!

Summer rolls

So delicious! Our family has been coming here since the 1990s. Delicious summer rolls. Great noodles and curries.

Great restaurant for our girls' night out. The cloth napkins and soft lighting create a classy and intimate atmosphere. To stay within our low-carb meal plan we ordered the chicken lettuce cups and chicken satay. Both had really great sauce accompaniments. It was my first time trying red curry (I usually go for the yellow) and I was pleased to find I didn't really miss the potatoes at all. We ordered just the right amount of food for two people and left with a small box of leftovers.

I Poured it all into one container. This is not $34 of curry. This is stealing from customers

I don't usually leave reviews, but I wanted to share my experience dining here with my family…read more The evening started off great. The staff was friendly when we arrived, we were seated quickly, received our drinks promptly, and our food came out fast. The music was enjoyable, the ambiance was nice, and the restaurant had a modern, welcoming feel. Most importantly, the food was excellent. Everything we ordered was delicious, and my kids couldn't stop talking about the crispy pork belly. Honestly, the food itself was 5-star quality. The issue was what happened as the restaurant approached closing time. About 10-15 minutes after we started eating, a staff member brought our check and asked us to pay even though we were still waiting on two mango sticky rice desserts that had not yet been served. I politely explained that we hadn't received all of our food yet, so it didn't make sense to close out the bill. The desserts were brought out shortly afterward. A different employee then returned and again asked us to close out the check, assuring us that we could continue eating while they finished closing. Although I was hesitant, I paid and explained that I would leave a cash tip after we finished since we were still dining. Unfortunately, from that point on, the service noticeably changed. No one checked on our table, our water glasses were never refilled, and the staff seemed focused on cleaning around us. The booth behind us was being cleaned very loudly while we were still trying to enjoy our meal. It made us feel rushed and unwelcome, and honestly took away from an otherwise great dinner. When I asked for containers for our leftovers, the interaction felt cold and standoffish compared to the friendly service we received earlier in the evening. My suggestion would be that if the restaurant is close to closing and doesn't want guests dining in, they should clearly communicate that and switch to takeout only. The food was genuinely delicious, and I would come back again--but not near closing time. Great food, disappointing end to the evening.

We were lucky and were able to grab the spot right out front. For drinks we each ordered a cocktail. It did take a bit for them to come out but once they did you can tell time and effort were put into making them. They were beautiful and all tasted great. We ordered 4 dishes to share, the wasabi scallop ceviche, crispy baby crab, braised beef panang, and crab fried rice. The ceviche was definitely one of my favorites. Super flavorful, fresh, with the perfect amount of wasabi. The crispy baby crab was savory and easy to eat, especially since you're eating the whole crab, shell and all. The curry in the braised beef panang was so addicting, I couldn't stop eating it. The crab fried rice was tasty and filling. For dessert we got the mango sticky rice. The mangoes were fresh and sweet. Overall pretty standard but still yummy. Service was friendly, helpful and attentive. All the food came out in the timely manner. The vibe of the restaurant is casual but can be a little dressy for a nice date. Overall I definitely recommend a try here. We got the Taro Fritters, Bangkok street noodles, pork sausage, and the chicken wings. The highlight of the dinner were the chicken wings!! They were so flavorful and crispy, I cannot recommend them enough. The taro fritters were a close second, the tamarind sauce was also a highlight of my dinner experience. Service was quick + amiable, and the inside of Sovereign was clean and inviting. The decor is dark and moody, with live plants throughout the establishment. Parking is metered & limited, but definitely worth the hassle.

Maybe they were just having an off day today, but I thought this restaurant was just barely OK…read more After hearing how good it is for so long I was a bit disappointed TBH. I went with one of my girlfriends tonight at about 5:30 PM. We were quickly seated. I ordered a mango lemonade, which came out quite fast and was beautiful. It tasted pretty good too. I asked the server for recommendations on the menu, but she seemed startled by my question, like she was not used to giving recommendations. The two items that she did recommend didn't really sound appealing so I went with Pad See Ew with mock duck. That's one of my go to dishes at a Thai restaurant. I asked not to have any spice level added to my food, but the food came out and was just generally lacking flavor. It was very bland and even though there was a generous portion of vegetables in the dish the mock duck was super mushy. All the places I've ever been to it's sautéed crispy. Also, the the noodles were all stuck together. Like if you put noodles in water to let it boil, but you don't stir them and they just boil like that in a clump. The restaurant was very cute inside. I would be open to trying it again just because I've heard so many good things that I can't believe this is their standard experience.

When we ordered, our server took the time to explain their spice scale (1-5), letting us know that a 1 is already about a medium spice level. We settled on mostly 2-3, but wow--the Thum Khao Poon (shredded green papaya salad) still packed some serious heat! Even my spice-loving kids were challenged. The server also gave us a heads-up that it's very fish-forward in flavor, which we appreciated and happened to love. The absolute standout of the meal was the Nam Khao Tod. It was hands down the family favorite--crispy coconut rice with pork sausage, crunchy peanuts, fresh herbs, and so many incredible textures and flavors in every bite. We could have ordered a second plate! We also had the Drunken Noodles with chicken, which were slightly oily in the best possible way, making them extra rich and delicious. The Chef's Special Basil Stir Fry with Crispy Pork was another winner. Our server brought over a chili vinegar that elevated the crispy pork to a whole new level--it was so good drizzled over every bite. Great food, thoughtful service, and plenty of dishes we're already looking forward to trying next time. Can't wait to come back!

It's become our go-to spot for Thai takeout over the past few years since it's close to home, and the food has always been consistently delicious. The quality and flavors have stayed the same every time we've ordered, which is something I really appreciate. Some of our regular favorites are the Thai crispy rolls, chicken lettuce wraps, Tom Kha soup, red curry, yellow curry, and my absolute favorite--the braised beef Panang curry. The sauce is rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of creaminess. The beef is always tender, and it's one of those dishes I find myself craving over and over again. What makes this place unique is the mix of other Southeast Asian cuisines, especially Laotian food,…read morethat you don't see offered in many other restaurants in San Diego. Since we've never had food from Laos before, we tried the Laos Famous Plate which was a mixture of all of the staples including several kinds of meat jerky, sausage, salad, and rice paper. It did not suit my palate as the papaya salad was very strong on the acidity with some vinegar and fermented vegetables, and the jerky was a little tough to get through. I liked the sausage though, soft and with a unique flavor that is worth the try. The Nam Khao pork had a lot of different flavors and textures mixing together which also makes for a unique dish. I love the peanuts and the lime on the side. The rice is deep fried and crunchy. There is some "cheesey" flavor to it, though there's no cheese. This is a good one for anyone who likes the sides or apps at a Viet or Thai place and wants to mix it up. Finally, we did go basic (or classic) and got a pad thai with shrimp. It's a little on the sweet side, and I do wish there was more shrimp and peanuts given, but the noodles itself is solid and the portion of noodles is good.
