The customer service is excellent, the restaurant is always spotless, and the food is delicious. My absolute favorite is the Tom Yum Fried Rice. The lemongrass flavor is incredible and really makes it stand out. I also love the Chicken Drunken Noodle, and my husband's all-time favorite is the Crispy Basil Chicken. It's fried just right. Just ordered from GrubHub and overall a pleasant experience! I appreciated the containers had ventilation so the food didn't get soggy. I'm not sure if it's different ordering in person, but on the GrubHub app there was no "spice level" option, so everything was very mild which was a bummer. All dishes had plenty of protein in them; they didn't skimp on the tofu, beef, or chicken at all. Flavors were good, again, just bummed about no spice. Small place with 4 or 5 tables so it's really for takeout. They have a great lunch special to include an entree + 3 egg rolls + soda for only $1 more than the entree only price. Give them credit for staying competitive when you have all the fast food places offering $5-$7 meal deals. The food was just ok. It lacked flavor. Even with a spicy level of 0, the food should still stand out on its own without needing spice. Egg rolls were sub par and needed the sweet and sour sauce. Portion was pretty good. read more

I came here on a Saturday around 5PM and man was it busy! There was a line out the door and a nice woman trying to handle the in-person rush and the phones. We were a party of 5 so we combined the 2 tables outside to create a makeshift table for ourselves. There is only three 2-person tables inside and two 2-person tables outside FYI. This is more of a takeout spot. I got the chicken pad thai (good flavor but the noodles were too sticky in my opinion. It made it hard to chew and swallow.), the tom kha (unbelievably delicious. The large size is MASSIVE.), the chicken larb (love this dish- filled with greens, fresh lime dressing and vegetables.) Ask for extra sauce! The loser was the Pad Thai! We usually get drunken noodles and opted for Pad Thai because of the stellar reviews. It was the driest noodle dish I've had at a Thai restaurant. We had the fried tofu appetizer, a green curry, and a Pad Grapow with pork; everything was great. The Pad Grapow is minced meat and rice with an egg on top. It was very flavorful. First off, this is a counter service place so don't think you're getting some fine dining service. The staff is friendly and welcoming and took out order with a smile. Dad and I ordered the same dish - drunken noodles combo except I asked that rather than fish they add mores shrimp. Meanwhile mom ordered a different noodle dish also a protein combo. Since we all had the combo (shrimp, beef, chicken and fish - with me being fish less) I became obsessed with knowing if they did double up on my shrimp. The answer was yes - there were 4. Mom had two and dad had only one! Portion size is moderate as is the price. Food was ok. Great spot for Thai food in east county! The parking lot is small and most of it is 15 min parking, and the restaurant itself is very tiny with 3 tables so I think most people do takeout orders. I've been here twice and the pad thai was flavorful both times and nice and saucy. I tried the Kala crispy chicken for the first time and it was still pretty crispy even though I got takeout and didn't get to eat it until about an hour later. The flavors are also a nice balance of sweet and sour. Their spice level goes from 1-10 and I got a level 2 for both the crispy chicken and pad thai, but the pad thai was spicier. While eating I couldn't feel the spice that much but after I was done I felt the spice lingering in my mouth. I don't think I could do higher than a 3 or 4 here and my spice tolerance is decent lol. read more

I always get it with chicken and spicy level 4 for normal, but 6 for a slight kick. Pad Thai is always on point here too with big pieces of shrimp. I always call in my order and take it to go since the service is always good. They do have a dining area, but it is very small so I've never eaten here. Tucked away in an unassuming stip mall you'll find Hug Thai Express. The restaurant is very small with three tables inside and two outside. We walked in and were greeted right away. I ordered the chicken drunken noodle with medium spice and my husband ordered the cashew chicken with mild spice. I got a thai tea to drink but my husband didn't order a drink. When she brought out the tea she also brought out a glass of water for him. Its the little things that make you want to go back. The food is cooked to order and she brings it out as soon as it is ready. There is no leaving a plate to cool while the entire order is completed. The food was awesome! Good portion size. Everything was cooked and spiced well, which is not easy with nuts. You can easily overcook them if added too soon. My husband said the cashew chicken was a wonderful blend of sweet and savory with a perfect amount of meat and veggies in just the right amount of sauce to accompany the generous side of rice. I have never had thai food with crinkle french fry type potatoes and carrots in it. The eggrolls were stingy on the shrimp, as well.

they have decent noodles, sauce, and okay meat. level 2 spicier than average. id get level one.

I eat here about every two weeks, they are a resturant i will never be tired of. I plan to try every dish at least once. Service is efficient and friendly. The place is well managed, clean, and cozy. The are a must try in La Mesa. read more
