Even though I came close to closing time, the staff were patient and welcoming. They didn't rush me or act annoyed, which I appreciated. The shop was still spotless, and the glass display looked freshly cleaned. I picked up a chocolate cherry muffin and it was moist, slightly tart, and rich. One of my FAVORITE ICECREAM EXPERIENCES!! I called prior to arriving about their vegan options, and Kushanda (hope I spelled it right) was super helpful in answering all of my questions. I was sold on coming just from hearing her voice and, it being black owned was just a super bonus. They have a cute window to order your icecream from and all the flavors listed on the outside. Typically places only have sorbet as a non dairy option or two basic vegan flavors, however The Salaam Parlor has 6 vegan options which is rewardingly abundant. They also have vegan cones for the people who love the whole package. Icecream visits are an old time hobby me and one of my best friends do occasionally. This visit was totally worth it and heart warming. We are truly satisfied with the flavor, texture, toppings, and service provided!! Will definitely be visiting again and again!!!! Black owned and Woman owned! The ice cream is actually quite tasty. It's just the right creamy consistency and not too sugary in my opinion. I've come to this spot twice now. My 6 year old loves it and wants to stop by every time we go past the business. They have a little outdoor seating bench so you can wait and/or sit and enjoy your dessert. There is also a little free library attached to one of the benches. I personally thought that was a nice touch. I think the prices while not extremely high or not extremely low either. In this case, I'd say it's possible some of it is pandemic related. Having said that, since the quality is good and I stop by maybe once a month, I'm okay with dropping $16 at a time here. They also have a sweet shop next door. It would be much more convenient to just go to the bodega across the street, but if you want to support another small black owned business - this is where you go. The candies are in nice glass jars and they seem to have other items for sale as well, such as books and music, etc. If you're buying an ice cream, then they will direct you to next door since it's also them. The staff is polite and seem to have a good rapport with customers. Now that it is summer time, I'm sure I'll be stopping by once or twice more before the season is over. read more

Great addition to Newark! Loved that we have added another Black Owned, Woman owned business. Ice cream Parlor gives you pink vibes all day and Pink is my favorite color so I was an automatic fan, but the quality of the ice cream is even better and made me a fan for life. Due to Covid you are not allowed inside, but they have a window in the front where you can order and pick up. They do offer outside seating also if its warm outside and you want to enjoy your ice cream. They offer monthly flavors also which are usually a go to. Besides that I love their cookies and cream and waffle cones. read more

It makes my heart smile to support good quality Black Owned Businesses! We keep our children away from dairy due to allergies and eczema and their vegan ice cream didn't disappoint! Because they're kids, I went simple and got them the Madagascar Vanilla Bean - delicious! I opted for the flavor of the month .. I forgot the exact name but it had Bourbon and Caramel - HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG WITH THAT COMBINATION??? Since it was nice out, we opted to just sit outside the parlor in their roadway seating and truly just enjoy the flavors. They also have cakes and pies so you can absolutely satisfy your sweet tooth! I support black businesses. I sent her to get icecream for my children and the icecream was good. I was hoping for wet walnuts, but they don't have that topping. I don't eat dairy and they don't have a nondairy options. But the sister at the window said not yet. Which leads me to believe that it is in the works. This place doesn't even let you come into the parlor but comes up to this make shift plexiglass window but then doesn't want to serve you because you don't have a mask on. They even have a seating area inside and outside. Me and my baby wanted ice cream but I didnt feel like driving out of town to get it so I happened to search ice cream parlors on Yelp and found this great spot!!! I can't believe it's been in the neighborhood for 2 years and I didn't know. The ice cream is kosher and non GMO. They even have milk shakes, cookies, brownies, cakes, pies, an array of toppings, navy bean soup and other goodies... Even vegans like me can find something on the menu.
