Salento easily became my favorite spot to chill at after work. Bread was solid (you can tell they're serious about being a Colombian cafe) and I found myself walking back to the register for seconds. I loveeeee Colombian food and ran across this restaurant on uber eats. Never heard of this place but just went for it. I got the pandebono and a huge order of beef empanadas. First of all, the pandebono!!!!! It is a must! Absolutely delicious!!!!!! The empanadas arrived hot and fresh and they are HUGE. The colombian empanadas im used to are usually have the size of these. Food: Ordered the chicken soup with rice. The soup was fresh, chicken...oh, so, tender. The rice is served in a separate small bowl. One spoonful at the time, with a bit of chicken, veggies and broth was the perfect bite!! The hazelnut cookies were insane. So soft and delicate, they literally crumbled when I took a bite. The best Mexican food and the service and ambiance is great too! The only downside I have is that they closed their UES location which was closer to me. They offer really delicious pastries! The coffee was solid but nothing out of the ordinary. They have so many delicious options but I've tried the Pumpkin Gloria, Pastel de Platano (plantain, cheese, and dulce de leche filled puff pastry), and plaits de queso y guayana (puff pastry cheese sticks filled with guava). Lots of unique baked goods I haven't seen in a lot of other places. Worth the stop for a sweet treat if you're in the area! Salento has some awesome Colombian goodies and it is a spacious and clean spot as well. I had the classic pan de bono which was fantastic but at $2.75 I found it overpriced since I've never seen pan de bono more than $2 in NYC regardless of location. I also had the chocolate cake which was quite tasty as well. All in all, I wouldn't be opposed to going back but I don't think the prices are justified, especially since the pan de bono was quite small as well. read more

This is a cute Colombian bakery & cafe in a largely Dominican neighborhood of the Heights- small in size, but with large offerings that would make any Colombian feel right at home here in the northern half of Manhattan. The bakery is really a standout in all of New York - with a solid plethora of different traditional baked (and a few fried) items that I haven't seen many places carry. The Colombian corn-fried beef empanadas are delicious - I asked for lime to go with it since it's what I do and it always enhance the flavors, rubbing the lime on the crispy corn flour exterior (and squeezing the juice inside for the beef too). But for the spicy aficionado, it does also come accompanied with a spicy chimichurri (it's not for me). The passion fruit juice here is also great, and I had a lulo (aka naranjilla) drink as well that was good - but sadly there was no lulada on the menu which I usually prefer over the lulo juice - hopefully one day soon it'll appear! I was surprised to see they had trucha (trout) on the menu - it's a very common Colombian/Venezuelan inland dish in the sense that it's what many people eat for fish around the country (except along the coast where there are more options like the red snapper). I ordered that, and it was also delicious - it was filleted but not deboned - and it was delicious - I would order this again for sure. I do also want to come back for their coffee offerings which look substantial, as well as for their breakfast offerings and more of their bakery items to accompany the wakening hours. The service was also friendly, patient, and warm - most of the people coming in take food to go due to the size of the business. I don't know if I was hungry or if it was just that good, but my first time having a pan de bono and a cambray, and I absolutely loved it. Staff told us the pastries were made of cassava starch. It reminded me a little bit of mochi since it was a little chewy. The pastry was amazing, a little sweet and almost a little savory. The cheese inside the pandebono was sweet and smooth. The guava inside the cambray was on the sweeter side, but since the pastry wasn't overwhelmingly sweet, it wasn't overpowering. The beef empanada was also very good. A little on the saltier side, but the crema that came along with it balanced it out so well. Do not skip out on this place if you find yourself up here. read more

I am definitely overdue at writing a review of Salento since it is one of my favorite spots in Washington Heights. This little hidden gem serves Colombian food and pastries as well as coffee. I have been here multiple times since they opened in 2020 and have never been disappointed. Firstly, the service is so exceptional. Everyone I have interacted so far is really kind and personable and also speaks Spanish-- mostly all of them are Colombian! I will say the quality of their products is very good and my standards are high since I am Colombian, born and raised. Below are a few of the things I have tried in the last few years: Arepa rellena: their arepas are very very good, with very tasty corn dough and generous amounts of cheese in them (I usually like them more toasted and have asked the cashier if it is possible to grill them a little extra and they have always done this for me, they are the kindest!) I think they are pretty cheap for how filling they can be. Add this as a side to any of your meals and you can be full for days. Ensalada Campesina: my go-to meal here. It is super filling and feels really healthy at the same time. This salad comes with very well seasoned and tender shredded chicken over a bed of spinach with black beans, corn, tomatoes, onions, and grilled plantains which give it a delightful sweet taste! The dressing is also very mild and ties everything together with its tangy/citrusy accents. Huevos Pericos: had this for brunch one weekend and it was like a throwback to my time in Colombia. Super good pericos with lots of tomatoes and onions that give them that very subtly sweet taste. They also come with a toasted, thin arepa which is divine with some salt and the pericos over it. Had it with coffee and was very happy. Pandebono: Trust me, just get this. They are delicious. My Colombian family in LA forces me to buy batches before I travel so I can bring them frozen. Cheesy, buttery, soft, sweet/savory, decadent. 11/10 recommend. Sopa de Pollo: the real reason I am writing this review today is that I got COVID and just ordered some of this soup for delivery and it warmed my soul. Tastes so homemade and feels so comforting. It comes with white rice on the side as well as little diced potatoes, carrots, peas, and very generous bits of chicken breast that just remind me of food made by my abuelita. There is no better sick food out there! Perfect for a cold winter day. Truly love this place and you should definitely check it out if you are in the area! The service is kind, there is plenty of indoor/outdoor seating, and their Colombian food (both baked goods, and bigger meal plates) are fantastic. Coffee is also pretty solid! First of all I love the decor at Salento! All the plants just give it a fresh chill vibe. This is my go to spot for Colombian food/pastries since Queens is too far from me just for 1 or 2 things. I always get coffee and it has yet to disappoint. I love love pan de Bono and Bunelos. Especially when they are warm! The spinach and cheese pastry is delish. The dough is nice and flaky and there is a generous amount of spinach inside (I loooove spinach) I recently tried the cinnamon roll. The filling is thick and not too sweet. I warmed it up when I got home and my daughter ate half of it. I got 5 different pastries for 17.00 which to me was a great price. The girl at the counter is always smiling and friendly. read more

I love this place and would return. I wish it was a little closer to be in Harlem but, they are worth the trip. Cute spacious Colombian cafe with lots of options. I had the guava and cheese chicharron and it was amazing. So fresh and not too sweet, just perfect. The apple turnover was a to go for my boyfriend and he loved it. The maduro pastry (sweet plantain) with caramel was just okay to me. I did not love it and I usually love all things maduro but, this was not it. The texture was weird for me and the caramel maybe threw me off. It looked like there was meat in there but there is not, it's just the maduro. Their guanabana juice was DELICIOUS. Salento is such a charming cafe in the heart of Washington Heights. The server was super friendly and helpful. I decided to dine in, so I had to show my vaccine verification and ID. They have a nice outdoor dining area as well for people who don't have vaccine verifications. I started with one of their cheesy pastry's which I forgot the name of, but is SO GOOD! I'm sure if you choose any item you won't be disappointed because they bake their goods in house. I ordered the club sandwich with fries. Fries are freshly cut and homemade, these were so addicting! I went back here, and I shared an assortment of other items with a friend. Overall, I think I would come back for the pastries, but most of the other items I tried this time around had something missing - still all good though. 1. Pastel Salento - this time, it was warmed up enough so that the cheese was soft. The pineapple/fruit has a stronger flavor compared to the guava in the pastel gloria - I prefer the pastel gloria over this, but this was still good. 2. Blood Sausage with arepa - if you want to dip your toes in blood sausage, this might be the one to start. It has virtually none of the iron taste, so very palatable. I was hoping for a little more flavor, but I love blood sausages and this is the first time I've had a Columbian version of it. 3. Chicken/mushroom pastry - the puff pastry seems to always be done well here. The chicken was moist and the flavor combination was really good. I thought it could've benefitted from a sauce, but I would get this again. 4. Arepa with mozzarella - this was slightly sweet, but the flavor was more muted compared to other arepas I've had. I wouldn't get this again, but not bad. 5. Beef/potato ball - I'm forgetting the name, but it's on the first list of the menu. This was just alright in my opinion. read more

This is my 2nd and final time trying this coffee house. I bought a lemonade & a Americano coffee, a little overpriced in my opinion... tipped despite the rude service. The staff held a full conversation with each other, laughing/making jokes, barely acknowledging me at all. My order was to go, I opened the coffee back at work, and it's filled a little more than half way. The coffee it's self is watery, SMELLS & TASTES burned and is frankly not drinkable. I always try to support my local/community businesses, but this is one that I will not be back to. read more
