Visited the evening of 6/20/26, approx. 7:30 PM. Seated promptly, however, sat for 15 minutes before wait staff appeared. Once noticed our server did everything right, she apologized, was attentive, prompt, and polite through the meal. What is troubling a number of servers passed us by multiple times not even looking at us. the food arrived, wife had Stuffed Flounder which she enjoyed. I ordered the Fried Seafood Platter. The crab cake was well over cooked to the point of the crab having no flavor, scallops were dark brown little crispy nuggets where scallops were cooked down to nothing, fish was like a piece of rubber. The shrimp were good but small. The best part of the plate was the baked potato and hush puppies. Extremely disappointed, for $33 you expect a meal done proper, the seafood portion was basically not edible, one of the worst seafood meals I have experienced. Begs to ask the question, Why would a server bring a meal that looked it did, it was pretty obvious the plate was way over cooked. read more

We've been to Salerno's many times over the years. We have found the food usually pretty good but rarely spectacular. We have found the service uneven, ranging from top-notch to seriously lacking. Everything I wrote in 2024 about the all-you-can-eat crabs special, still stands. The value associated with that gimmick is illusory for reasons I laid out. More recently I visited on a Friday for lunch. Our entrees (blue catfish and fries off the specials menu) were served promptly and were tasty enough. However, despite Salerno's experience and reputation, service was markedly uneven: 1. Our waiter repeatedly vanished quickly before we could ask for what would think were standard and expectable requests (silverware, cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, drink refills, the check). Not too many tables for too few people either; the restaurant was pretty empty. 2. Once our check arrived, I was presented with one of those electronic wireless devices. I entered a custom tip amount which seemed overridden by a default sum which was larger. Again, no one around to ask or complain. Like with our crabs experience of over a year ago, service lagged. Did our waiter have too many customers and was being let down by the kitchen. Again, something was amiss. We'll return to Salerno's when memory of this experience fades, as it is too convenient to us to take off our list entirely. The entire experience at Salerno's was top notch. From the moment my husband and I walked in to the second we left, EVERYTHING was great. Great waitresses, excellent food (OMG the corn and hush puppies!!!!), and especially tge crabs! We had 10 extra large and 2 jumbo (oh, and a dozen large steamed shrimp). I honestly could eat all of my crabs, that's how meaty and filling they were. Thank you, Salerno's, for a great summer evening. Will most definitely be back! read more

My family has been coming here since we've been in the area and are always very impressed! While we're seafood fans and tend to come here during crab season, I was in the mood during the winter before I temporarily move abroad (to somewhere with seafood nowhere near as good), so we stopped in. We started with oysters which were part of the specials, so we brought our usual dozen up to 16. What a great choice -- we were very impressed! They were served with horseradish and cocktail sauce, both of which had a great kick that enhanced the flavor. We also ordered crab cakes and sandwiches, all of which came out quickly. I opted for a crab cake with a side of potato salad and the vegetable medley and thought it was great! While the vegetables were fine, the potato salad was some of the best I've ever had. The crab cake was perfect, my dad agreeing with his order. His came with onion rings, which were very well done. My mom opted for a steak and cheese sandwich and thought it was great! She got it with fries, which were delicious. Overall, spot-on with the food and great service, super quick. Four of us visited last evening, 7-14-24. Great crab cakes, cold shrimp & grits and fried shrimp with a thick, heavy batter. Oh yeah, the hush puppies were almost burned but they did have a great flavor once I figured out how to bite into them. I'd definitely go back. Totally enjoyed this spot. Came out by myself to get some crabs and this place came highly recommended. So I sat at the bar. Here's my experience: I ordered a Whistle Pig Old Fashioned. CJ was my original bar tender and he made a GREAT old fashioned! The bar tender that came to relieve him made my 2nd (that was purchased by a couple at the bar as a nice gesture) was just as good. I loved how welcoming the staff was. They literally knew everyone that came in. Having "regular's" always says a lot about your business My food: I had honey old bay wings. Cooked really well. Perfect crisp but I wouldn't have been mad with just a little more flavor. The crabs were PHENOMENAL! They were all out of large so I had to get mediums. I was nervous because mediums can't tend to run small but these were perfect! Seasoning perfect, steamed perfectly and they had females that were full of all the good stuff! I have been to Salerno's many times! Before quarantine and during. I always love their crabs (though are times pricey) they have some of the best rub and the large always have great meat in them. I also enjoy their hush puppies and fries. Memorial Day I did order some medium male and some where as described others small. Still overall tasty. I also ordered the mussels which were a little overcooked and not as great tasting as I was hopping. The crab did was amazing ! Highly recommend! I did appreciate that they are offering online ordering and curbside pick up. I do see the reviews in here talking about poor service which is something I have never experienced. Everyone is always friendly and professional. I would not recommend ordering from here unless ahead of time during busy holidays for large quantities of crab, you may be disappointed . A completely average restaurant if you are not having crabs. I had the fried shrimp, vegetable medley and fries. The fries were good. The vegetable medley was broccoli, baby carrots and cauliflower. I would not get this again and there was nothing special about it. My fried shrimp were overcooked and too firm. Not worth $24 for sure. Salernos is one of a few eat-in crab houses and seafood restaurants in my area. And if you are a Marylander, you know the importance of hot, heavy, steamed crabs! This Labor Day I was craving them. But not craving the messy clean up that follows eating them at home. So my hubs and I headed over to Salernos on Liberty Road in Eldersburg. They always have specials on seafood, and usually have the $39 Deal which includes a dozen mixed crabs, a pound of steamed shrimp, and two ears of steamed corn. They also had an All-You-Can-Eat Crab special for $25 per person. And trust me-sometimes we can throw them down. But we weren't in that kind of mood, so the $39 was just right for us to share. We actually didn't want the shrimp at the time, so we got a box and took it home for later. It did take a while to get the food. Sometimes there is a little back up at the steamer, because of the demand from the All-You-Can-Eaters. The waiter was a nice guy, but he could have come to the table a few times while we waited to refill water. After the food came, he was more attentive. Presentation of food is nice. The crabs were on the small side (hence the cheap deal), but only one was light (MD'ers know what I mean). Most had a decent amount of meat. Corn was fresh and appeared to be Silver Queen. We didn't have a great experience here. We ordered jumbo crabs at the Restuarant ($125) and they came out cold and had to be sent back. The Restuarant wasn't busy and everything seemed very slow. Some of the food also was not good like the Mac and cheese (kids wouldn't even eat it; we should have sent it back but didn't because we had just sent back the cold crabs), the ranch dressing was sour and couldn't be eaten, and the fish dinner came out cold also. We love ordering from salernos for takeout and for eat in! Great spot for when you have a seafood craving or part of your family does and the others don't want seafood! Family favorites/staples with every order: orange crushes to drink, their half and half soup (we always get some to go as well because my daughter loves it so much!), crab dip, their pizza is great. We also love their hush puppies! Oh and their steamed crabs are great too. We really like that we can sit outside and still see sports on the tv on the deck. We moved here about 18 months ago and miss having our consistent go-to, always know the quality you are going to get steamed crabs spot. I was really hoping that Salernos was going to be. And unfortunately they were not. The crab dip pizza was quite good. Crust was great, really tasty. The kids loved it. Would order that and any of their pizza again really. The problem was the crabs. They were light (which I can deal with - depending on the time of year, you're not always going to get heavy crabs...), but this wasn't reflected in the price and it was completely obvious they were re-steamed. And it's not like they came out so quick to justify doing so. Nor was the place that busy. Really unfortunate because everything else about the place is great - conveniently located, looks nice inside, opportunity to eat outside covered as well. I just would never go back here for crabs. Tried to order crabs last week for today - Saturday. Told to order during the week. Went in Tuesday. Told they couldn't take orders until Thursday. Called Thursday. Said they couldn't take orders for mediums until Saturday. Called Saturday morning. Told at first they weren't sure they had them at 10:45 AM. Accepted the order. Had them when I went to get them. Struggled with this review because AT FIRST the crabs were great...then it went downhill fast. My husband and I actually ordered a large dozen male crabs earlier this week and they were heavy which is what encouraged me to tell my friends that we could order from there for crabs today. We called today at 11:00am to place an order as informed yesterday. My girlfriend called in the order and requested a bushel of the "Big Boyz" *All Large* male crabs for $399. She also asked how many come in a bushel. Tracy responded approx 6 dozen and said they fill the box. We had 5 couples that were eating them and they requested a certain amount each, so that was exactly what we were looking for. We requested a 7pm pickup. We picked up the crabs at 7pm and brought them home. Everyone dug in and the crabs were great! As people were continuing to eat the box was empty. NO ONE had reached the amount of crabs they ordered so everyone began counting their shells--nothing had been thrown away so the count was accurate--we had 40 crabs!!! Now 6 doz is 72 crabs which means almost 1/2 our crabs (32 to be exact) were missing!! We proceeded to call and speak with the manager and discuss the issue with him. He tried to say oh it's less because we threw in some jumbo and xlarge too. Remember we just had the crabs earlier in the week and they were the same size. Regardless we ORDERED large males! The regular price of large male crabs is $85, so even if we paid the regular price and received 40 crabs (~3.5 dozen)=3.5*$85=$297.50 which is $101.50 LESS than what we paid!! A bushel is supposed to provide you with more NOT LESS. So as my friends husband was telling the manager this, the phone is disconnected. HE HUNG UP! So I called back and said in my calmest voice, I know you didn't hang up on him?? He says no, and we continue the discussion. He again tried to say that it's actually large and up crabs so that's why there's less ...Sir--including xlarge and jumbo crabs when someone orders Large happens NEVER. So again the phone disconnects. HE HUNG UP AGAIN!! So my girlfriend, her husband and I went there. Clearly we needed to talk in person because the connection was bad (sarcastic). So we proceed to show him THEIR sign which clearly states that Big Boyz are *All Large*. He says he will need to talk to the owner. So we wait 10 mins while he attempts to contact the owner. Finally the general manager calls back--he goes quiet and tells him what's going on. I can't hear what he's saying but 5 mins later he hangs up and says that the general manager is willing to give us 16 but there is no way we are Walking out with 32 crabs. I tell them in no way is it our fault that their employee informed us of a particular number and it differs by 2 1/2 dozen. He repeats well he said approximate 6 doz, but when does 3.5 dozen EVER approximate to 6 dozen!! That's crazy! He then tells me that he's "just trying to make this go away" as if I'm a fly. He offers 18 crabs and says that I can follow up with the general manager tomorrow. I said fine because at this point I still have guests at my house waiting. I get the general manager, Chuck Birmingham name and phone number. While waiting 15 mins for the 18 large crabs, a gentleman customer is leaving and comments and says he hopes they are good. My girlfriends husband responds and tells him what happens and he said oh that's happened to me before. We get home open the bag of crabs and what's inside??--small and medium crabs--(pictures are posted on my page)! I call back to let the manager know that I realize they gave me smaller crabs and I will be posting the pictures of the difference and he starts yelling at me saying "NOW YOU'VE GONE TOO FAR MA'AM! HAVE A GOOD NIGHT!! The new crabs that were supposed to replace the missing large males were hot, but CONSIDERABLY SMALLER AND LIGHTER than our originals!! Our original point still stands--we were JUST trying to receive what we PAID for! We WEREN'T asking for anything Special! I am ALL for good food but when you have BAD SERVICE -- it COMPLETELY NEGATES the good food! If you order any 1/2 bushels or bushels from here, CHECK YOUR COUNTS!!! They are charging people more for less! We'd have been better off ordering the dozens! $400 for 40 crabs is OUTRAGEOUS!!! read more

Tonight I had the oyster stew, of which I only took two bites, and the taste of which I've been trying to get out of my mouth for an hour now.
