4th of July BBQ party tickets still available! Purchase in-person only. Note: There's an elevator available to the deck and event level!

Remarkable atmosphere, seafood, and staff. A new landmark in Catonsville! We're coming back next week for their July 4th ticketed feast and parade-watch! Everyone this side of Baltimore has been hopefully watching the methodical transformation of this solid plain brick wallpaper-warehouse into a new Faidley-family restaurant. Well, the fishmonger's daughter herself, Dayme Hahn, and her son Will, have landed The Fishmonger's Daughter modern premium seafood market, fine-dining restaurant, warm bar, and lovely bare-brick and 100-year-old pine event space squarely in the hearts of diners and neighbors. Lovely fresh seafood greeted us in the display to the right of the host's station. As we wait briefly for our reservation to be called, we studied the clever, fun, and attractive merchandise on shelves, while realizing we were watching as skilled staff was preparing dinner in front if us in a sparkling clean kitchen. And that steady guiding hand was the owner, Dayme, in an apron working side by side with her staff. The menu is seafood, with some steak and chicken entrees, in new yet traditional preparations, offering every course from soups, salads, and appetizers, to mains from sandwiches to entrée-dishes to whole fish. Our welcoming knowledgeable server knew their wines, listened, and made recommendations that hit the mark. My amateur opinions: The Chilean Sauvignon Blanc was crisp and bright and slightly tangy. The chilled red Italian Corvina was new to us, bold enough with fruit and light tannins yet light enough to complement seafood. The fried calamari appetizer was tender and fresh, lightly coated in crispy panko, with tasty sides of roasted mild-garlic creamy aioli and smoky red tomato coulis sauce. The panko-crusted Fishmonger's Sandwich was over-stuffed with lightly crusted thick crunchy tender hake, with ripe tomato and crisp lettuce, and a modest layer of Faidley's tartar sauce, somehow held in by a fresh pillowy bun. The Whole Fish Of The Day was seabass. We chose The Fillet Of The Day: several Maryland rockfish filets layered over a light and balanced bright-yellow curry corn-chowder puree, with field peas, small tender savory potatoes, juicy char-roasted tomato, and a little tang from summer pickle relish. The star of our dinner was this generous dish of tender pan-roasted filets, full of aromas and flavors. We ate luscious food and drank well-curated wine to our hearts' content. Yes, literally, a feeling of warm satisfaction. This owner, this family, this team, have crafted a treasure. And the restaurant full of the deeply-neighborly Catonsville community is a full participant in the remarkable experience that is Fishmonger's Daughter's fine yet "casual-friendly" dining. We suggest that reservations are recommended. There's valet parking available, and some dedicated spaces along the east side of the building. Oh, and please watch your step on the threshold, the step is nearly invisible. You might still have a chance at tickets to their 4th of July Parade Watch BBQ party! Special note: There's an elevator available to the deck and event level!

Drinks- The Prestige and Lupin III

After their soft launch in May (2026), my wife and I decided to try out Faidley's. The place was crowded, and despite arriving on time for our reservation, it was about 15 minutes before we were seated, and over 5 more before anyone came to greet us at the table to take drink orders. Maybe they're still figuring things out, especially during the dinner rush (it was definitely packed from 6:30-8:00), but when it's date night and your babysitter is on the clock, you count on the reservation being honored. Our waitress Gigi was great. Friendly and knowledgeable, and not afraid to give her honest opinion about several menu items - what she liked, what's good but nothing to write home about, etc. We appreciated that. Drinks - there is an extensive selection of drinks, mostly alcoholic but even a respectable list of mocktails. I got the Lupin III, which was a sour-style drink with a nice citrusy and boozy flavor, not bad. My wife got The Presitge, which was fantastic. Whiskey-forward with madeira and tobacco bitters and a smoke finish - would absolutely order this if I came back. My wife also got a dessert cocktail after our meal, the Carajillo, which is for coffee lovers. In addition to espresso, there was coffee liqueur and a light foam. Appetizers - My wife got the Maryland crap soup and I got the Oysters Vicente and the Fried Oyster Rockefeller. We agreed the soup wasn't bad - we've had better and we've had worse. Decent Maryland crab soup. The Rockefeller was a nice approach to a classic - creamy spinach with the fried oysters on top. Not bad, very well prepared. The star, and possibly my favorite dish of the whole night, was the Oysters Vicente. One of the topped broiled shells items, it was cooked just right, with a topping that was smoky, perfectly salty, and the right amount of acid and brine. I would absolutely get this again. My wife doesn't really care for oysters and even she agreed it was amazing. Mains - everyone told us that Faidley's has a great crabcake, so we figured we'd try it here. It was good, though a little room temperature upon arrival. My wife liked the potatoes and thought they were well-done. The other sides of cole slaw and tomatoes were special. I got the fish of the day, which was a rockfish with a curry corn puree with peas, tomatoes, tomatoes, and pickle relish. The fish was cooked well, but definitely underseasoned (if seasoned at all) - needed salt and/or acid. The bed of vegetables was tasty and also a little light on salt, but not totally lacking. Dessert - We got the brie cheesecake which was great. Would get again. The cherry sauce was on the side, which made it easy to apply as much or as little as desired. They split the cheesecake in two (see photo), making a fancy presentation and facilitating sharing. My wife doesn't like brie but thought it was subtle enough that she liked it. We only had room for the one, but some of the others sound great (I was tempted to get the trifle); our waitress said she goes mad for the cookies. Overall, it's a decent start. The restaurant is a little echoey but is very aesthetically pleasing. It gives off a fancy vibe but as of now, there is no dress code or anything that formal. Most were dressed in business casual but I also saw several tables with folks dressed in shorts, T-shirt, and baseball caps. So The Fishmonger's Daughter is as fancy as you want to make it. Some of the dishes were phenomenal, and others need some tweaking and finessing. It's busy now and hopefully they are able to improve the seating times. Utlimately, I'm optimistic about the newest place on Frederick Road.

This place is incredible and worth checking out! The decor is amazing and there are so many fun details like the fish pitchers. The food was excellent - the calamari was crisp, the crab dip hot and bubbly. The entrees were excellent as well - the lobster roll was bright and not too heavy, the lobster pasta well seasoned with plenty of lobster. The desserts are out of this world - the Brie cheesecake especially. My only gripe was the service - it could be very slow at times. We went on a Friday at 5 and they were certainly busy, but at times it felt like things took way longer than needed - paying the check, for example. Overall, we had a great meal and would return. The service is the only thing keeping it from 5 stars.

    Now that's a proper crabcake

Having lived near the Chesapeake Bay for some years, knowing that place to get a great crabcake was essential. I came back for the weekend and ask a local, and this was at the top of the list. A bit noisy, but a gorgeous place, with excellent service, and excellent food should not be missed. Had an oyster stout, the crabcake, and then brie cheese cheesecake. An excellent meal all around

I'm glad that they've opened up nearby! I will definitely be returning. We had an earlier reservation and by the time we were most of the way through dinner the place was hopping! Even before that it was kind of hard to hear; this place is huge (and also very beautiful)! Drinks were great, I got the frozen rye and it was delicious and still quite boozy. Split the oysters viccente which were delicious and also split the soft shell crab (which was quite large) and whole fish. Everything was delicious and fresh and fairly priced. Service was great, our waiter was very helpful and when things got busy he always circled back to let us know he hadn't forgotten about us. We actually didn't realize this until the next day but we put in an order for collard greens that we never got, that's how much we enjoyed our time there.

My critique of Baltimore crab cake restaurants is they may have the world's best crab cakes but all the sides and other dishes don't wow. All that's changed with fishmonger's daughter! In a beautiful (albeit noisy) space with lovely wood everything, with capable and friendly service, the food is the star! Standouts were the untraditional oysters Rockefeller, fried oysters on a bed of creamed spinach, the classic faidley's crabcake, and the warm chocolate chip cookies with milk. But there wasn't a miss. Highly recommend! Came here with friends of the faidley family so learned a lot about the history of faidleys and this new restaurant.

What a gem in Catonsville! The Fishmonger's Daughter did not disappoint, everything we ordered was delicious - started with the chorizo mussels (not pictured), that we asked for extra bread for to soak up the broth after the mussels were finished. Our main course was the lobster roll and lobster pasta. Both were divine. The bread on the roll was soft and had glistening golden butter. The portions of the lobster on both dishes were great! Our only thought was that the portion of pasta could have been a little bit more. For dessert, we shared the banoffee crepe and it was the perfect ending to the night! Service was pretty good for a Friday night, we did have a later reservation so we were there around 8:30. The place is lovely with design that intertwined the restaurant's history (Faidley's) with its modern take - it was perfect for a double date and we will be back!

Had an amazing experience here! We made reservations and were sat right by the window. There was 3 of us/ service is still a little slow since they just opened and they are still training people so we kept that in mind when we dined. We started with oysters and mussels which were delicious and we also had cocktails. Then we had the rockfish entree special and crab soup which was just the right amount of spice! I had the soft shell crab which was cooked perfectly. The sauce was amazing. Can't wait to go back again soon! Next time would like to sit at the bar which apparently you have to reserve as well.

    Soft shell crab eggs Benedict

First time visiting and it was Father's Day brunch, like 3-4 days after their grand opening so a grain of salt needed. TLDR: food was good, service was friendly but slooooow. Will come back in a few weeks/months. The space is gorgeous and I was really excited based solely on the fact that I maintain the Faidley's crab cake I had from Lexington market like 15-20 years ago is the best I've ever had and I promise I have had a LOT of crab cakes in Maryland over the years. We were greeted and sat right away. Our waitress was great. Super friendly, knew the menu, wasn't afraid to make recommendations or point us in another direction (specifically when one of us commented we don't like sweet cocktails and then asked about the two sweetest cocktails on the menu ). We ordered drinks and apps pretty soon after we arrived while waiting for the tardy member of the group (there's always one!). I had the Contarito which was really good and tasted like a version of an orange crush. One of us got the Haber Spritz which was similar to an Aperol Spritiz but ended up being a little sweet for her taste at the end. The other got the That'll Do Pig cocktail which didn't really have any bacon flavor at all and just tasted like bourbon and maple. For apps we had the crab dip which was SO GOOD, comes with 3 pretzel breadstick things so we split one since there are 4 of us. The proportion of dip to bread was perfect for our group. We also did the Spring Salad which was ok but not my personal favorite. The pepita crunch is like granola which some will love and I didn't but generally the salad wasn't bad. Probably would try the Caesar if I came back but again that's really lore personal preference. For entrees, three of us had the crabcake sandwich which was *chef's kiss* amazing as expected. It's a good thing (for my wallet) I don't live closer or I'd be back frequently just for this. I got mine with fries which were good, nothing special but well seasoned and crispy. The other two got the coleslaw side which was flavorful but very...soupy? Lots of the mayo slaw juice to the point the slaw was like swimming in the little ramekin. Not a major issue at all but mentioning it for those that might want drier slaw. The fourth got the soft shell eggs Benedict and loved that also. The soft shell was only available in the Benedict for this brunch but it sounds like they may offer it other ways on other days or for dinner. The only downside on the food (and the reason it was 4 stars instead of 5) is that the entrees came out luke warm. Not cold, so certainly not worth sending anything back but they definitely had been sitting for awhile waiting for service. I'd also eat a crab cake real cold so again it was still delicious just not piping hot. Speaking of service, we were there for brunch and absolutely not in a hurry but we were there for just over 2 hours and it felt longer. For reference here is the breakdown: arrived at 1:35p, seated immediately, ordered apps/drinks at like 1:45p (because we were reviewing not delayed service), drinks arrived 1:55p, apps arrived 2:05p, not sure when we ordered entrees but I think around when the apps arrived, entrees arrived 2:35p. When we ordered entrees, we also ordered a bottle of wine from their list. Nothing fancy was on the lower end of the range but not the cheapest. Our server brought four wine glasses a few minutes after we ordered, let's say around 2:10p...and the wine never came. She was busy at other tables and we were waiting for our food so it wasn't great but not worth making a scene. She came over to check in when we were 1/2 of the way through eating our entrees to apologize and say she was waiting for the bottle to be brought out. We let her know that we didn't need the bottle anymore and would just get another cocktail since the wine seemed to be an issue. The key lime tart was fine but nothing special, probably would stick to the cookies next time but it was Father's Day and we had to let him choose.

While their selection of spirits is good, especially the bourbons available, I was dismayed with the Atlantic charging $38.99 for the 750ml bottle of Maker's Mark with the red, white, and blue wax (for the 250th anniversary of the USA). Most other local liquor stores sell the same bottle for $22.99 (Pine Orchard Liquors) to $28.99 (Total Wine). A $16.00 is a bit excessive profit for the same product. I noticed similar pricing on other spirits in the store. I suggest sticking to the restaurant and to buy your beer, wine, and liquor elsewhere unless you are desperate as they do have a seven-day license.

This is a familiar place that updates the look and menu now and then, yet still feels like home. We often get a beet salad when it's available. Matthew's is scrumptious, with tender sweet juicy roasted beets, tasty grilled chicken, red onion slices and fresh spinach, tangy crumbled bleu cheese, and delightful candied walnuts, complimented by tart raspberry vinaigrette. By the way, it's gluten-free. We loved the rich cream of crab soup du jour, full of crab lumps and full of flavor, with a little spice from good old Old Bay. Delicious and dreamy. Their quesadillas were served a la carte as an appetizer, loaded with savory roasted chicken, heavy with a mild cheese and a lightly spicy flavorful thick red sauce, rolled in tender lightly seared flour tortillas. Generous and satisfying. Matthew's building dates from around 1862 as a station and hotel at the end of a horse-car line, before electricity! It's been through around 5 names over the years, and has been the Parsons family's Matthew's 1600 since 2004. We've felt comfortable and welcomed here for decades. It has plenty of free parking in their own lot. By the way, many of their already reasonable prices are discounted a little if you pay cash.
