Foods great great service wasn't crowded we ate outside, it's a nice place to eat friendly people

I met 5 friends for lunch and we all throughly enjoyed our meals. Our server Shannon was great, she was very attentive and allowed us to linger at the table while we were catching up. We were seated in the main dining area and even though it was busy during lunch it was never loud. We split an order of General Tso Brussel Sprouts which were served with Sriracha Aioli, yummy! I had the Jumbo Shrimp Salad on toast. There is a reason they have kept the original recipe for 33 years. This sandwich never disappoints. Then once you finish up at Becks it is fun to wander around downtown Sykesville. read more

Service was great. Beautiful outside seating. The wings....would had been a complete knockout but it barely had any old bay and a ton of honey. So those perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and juicy in the middle wings, had very little to no old bay flavor. As for the shrimp salad sandwich, I was shocked to at each half only had five to six shrimp on it. There was barely any shrimp. The service and the potential for the wings to be knockout gave this pace a four star. Next time I go back, I know the wings will be great and I will order a different sandwich. read more

We were looking for lunch in downtown sykesville so this seemed like a promising choice. The menu had a little of everything and they had outdoor seating for us on a nice day. The server was nice and quick with drinks. I honestly had kind of a hard time choosing what to eat because a lot sounded good on the menu. I ended up with one of the summer specials for an app, pork belly bao buns, and the lemon parm crusted salmon. Both were delicious! I would order them again. I don't know that my son loved his quesadilla, but he absolutely loved that it came with an Oreo pack! I would go again and order something different just to try more of the menu. read more

Beck's is the old reliable in Sykesville. I recommend the wings as they are always good. They also have an awesome burger. It's a nicely decorated and clean environment. And they have a great staff that offers good service. read more

Beck's is one of the best local restaurants in Sykesville. My mom and I have been craving the half and half soup so we each got a cup and it was better than I remember. We split the brussel sprouts and they were bursting with flavor. They had a great spicy aioli sauce. She had the Reuben sandwich which she said was amazing. The cornbeef was a thick cut and very flavorful. I had the Chesapeake Burger and it was very good. The bun was toasted and had an extra layer of old bay on top. Their ranch is also so good, we always dip out fries in it. The service was good, but it was very loud where we sat in the main area. If you want to be able to have a conversation I'd recommend asking to be in one of the side rooms. read more

EW Beck's is the best restaurant in downtown Sykesville! Always came here growing up, and got to visit when I was in town again this past weekend. The service is always great, and the food is always delicious! I'm a huge fan of all things crab and Beck's is one of the best for it. Cream of Crab Soup: 10/10 Crab Dip: 10/10 Chesapeake Burger (Burger with crab dip on top): 10/10 My husband had the Bao Bun special and loved it. Great pub that my family was happy to visit while in the area. We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. Everything we tried was good - from their burger to their large salads and their beer selection (I really liked the cherry wheat). Service was friendly and they were very kind in being able to accommodate and be patient with our restless kiddos, one of whom was a HUGE fan of the mac and cheese. The ambiance was busy but not overwhelming. You could tell the crowd was family-oriented. Would recommend if you are in the area and plan to return if we are again. read more

It's difficult to identify this as a restaurant on the Main Street in Sykesville for a visitor. Signage is not great. We wanted to sit outside because it was such a nice day. Very nice outside patio and there are two which was interesting. Once we got seated we noticed the flies and bees flying around others seated on the patio. We sat and waited for longer than normal period but once the server came she was pleasant and took our order. Upside is the food came quickly and was hot. I had the pulled pork sandwich which tasted good. It was advertised to come with an onion ring which it didn't. The house made pimento cheese was lost in pork. My wife's chicken club was unwieldy and fell apart as she tried to eat it. The most disappointing part of our lunch was the constant fighting off of flies and bees. It made it difficult to enjoy our lunch and have drink on a nice day. read more

This restaurant is super cozy and the vibe is chill and welcoming. It has been around since the early 90s, and feels like a hometown bar like 'Cheers.' The food was excellent. I was starving so I started with MD crab soup. Honestly the best crab soup I have ever had. The servers on the floor were very attentive and welcoming. Shoutout to our server Sydney! My friend and I got lunch... cheeseburger with fries and loaded nachos. If you order the nachos, the serving is huge, enough for 2-3 people. I can't wait to go back. I had high hopes for EW Becks. We ate here last week thinking that a nice small place in the historic district would be a good place to get some lunch with some quality food. We were unfortunately mistaken. The LEMON & PARMESAN ENCRUSTED SALMON was a bit bland, but it was okay. Nothing great and definitely not worth nearly $19. The real loser was the Supreme Nachos. I mean, literally nothing good to say about it. The cheese was just cold, hard shredded cheese. The chicken on it was tough and bland. No moisture at all so it was impossible to tear pieces apart. The most hilarious part was that it was baked on top of "wax" paper, but the cheese stuck to it like glue so you always got bits of paper with your cheese. Then there's the service. Although the server was sorta friendly, we rarely saw her. They weren't that busy so I'm not sure what the issue was. I finally had to track her down to get my check. I definitely do not recommend this place. I'm sure at one point they were great, but you could tell it's best days are behind it. read more

Solid place for dinner on the Sykesville Main St strip. Great food and service. I really enjoyed my Caesar salad with grilled chicken here. The croutons were amazing! I think they were smothered with garlic butter. The chicken was great, but I wish there was more of it. However, the salad portion was huge, definitely shareable for 2 people. My girlfriend enjoyed her short rib with the mashed potatoes, and her parents enjoyed the quesadilla app and brueleed sandwich special. I tried the short rib and it was quite tasty, with a sweet tang to it. The service was also great here, very community oriented and personable. I had a great time at Becks! read more

I ordered the chicken and waffles and received about half a boneless chicken breast and half a waffle on a plate with dried home fries- ate it in like 5-6 bites. For around 15.00$?? Really?? The price of chicken has gone up that much, huh? My partner's sandwich was half filled.... What the heck? Cutting corners??? The soup was good- get the bowl it was a generous serving... I've been coming here for years and it is a never-fail spot. The crab wontons are my favorite appetizer, and the burgers are to die for - but I also love trying their specials menu. Most recently, I tried the short rib special that came with asparagus and mashed potatoes. It was delicious! The parmesan crusted short rib melted in my mouth, the crust offered the perfect crunch, and the sides complemented it perfectly. My dad and I also opted for the swordfish taco appetizer and it was great! The sweet and salty crema and corn salsa was a perfect pairing and it was a great portion for two. 100% worth a stop for anyone ever in Sykesville, always my go-to when I'm home, and where I recommend everyone to try if they're visiting the area! read more

Terrible. Waitress never refilled waters, never served our food. The food was dry and over cooked. Sent back a pork dinner and recieved the same dry piece of pork a second time. The sweet potato fries were so dry they were not edible. Spoke to part owner Dan Freehan and proclaimed our displeasure and all he proceeded to do is turn the conversation around to being my fault for confronting him on his lousy food and service. we usually go there 1-2 times a month, we are DONE! We waited for 30 minutes on 8/29 Sat down at around 6:15 Ordered drinks at 6:20 Gave server app, chicken wings and dinner order at 6:4o when he came with drinks Wings came @7:20 and at 7:50 went to hostess to tell her to please have our dinners packed to go because we have a baby and w e cannot wait any longer. At 8:02 server brought the dinners for four of us on a server tray, two past dishes, turkey club and chicken sandwich out to the outdoors table. Told him we would pack them up and please bring a check. My son in law went to talk to manager. We have been coming here for five years and recently have experienced poor service. Not poor quality. Long wait with a 1p month old especially considering two couples seated before our wait left before our food arrive and two couples seated after we arrived had there meals and checks and left before we were served. Manager came said our food was ordered and 17 minutes from the dinner order was placed food was delivered! Not true She offered a gift card if we wanted one! I paid the check and left a cash tip for our server and told the manager we would not be b@ck. my daughter and family have been coming her fo4 the past five years @nd it seems that the service has deteriorated over time,! Not returning for quite a while Sad because it is convenient And my family lives in Sykesville, a very nice town. We had some good food here yesterday. The waffles and chicken sandwich and chicken club were very good. The outside seating was nice, but a lot of flies and bees unfortunately. The service was a 2. The Cream of Crab Soup was amazing I would put it on everything as a sauce if I could. Shrimp Salad Sandwich was delicious. Also enjoy a mocktail menu anywhere when available. Great place to grab a bite if you're up this way. I'm glad they have kids meal options because that makes my life easier. I swiped a few of their fries - they are a thicker cut with a good crunch and seasoning! We tried one of their current specials - pizza fries. The fries were waffle cut which was fun! Definitely loaded with plenty of cheese and some pepperoni - yum! I also got the Cobb salad. It had all the good stuff you want in a Cobb PLUS honey mustard pretzels for a crunch of flavor! Came into the restaurant for a drink at the bar but was quickly turned away by the bartender. According to the restaurant website and front door, the bar closes at 1:00am. However, when we came in at 11:40pm, the bartender said last call was at 11:00pm and it was up to her when to shut down the bar. E W Becks pub, great place, first time going for lunch really wasn't sure what to order, the burger looked really good, but I wanted something a little different, so I landed on the fish is chips, I wasn't disappointed at all, fish wasn't greasy at all and had a very nice flavor, fries nicely seasoned. We were out antiquing and ended up near Sykesville at lunch time. The RR restaurant was closed because Main Street was being dug up right in front. So we ended up at E W Becks. We decided on this because we ended up in their parking lot because of the Main Street road work detoured us that way. The entry way was a little dark and to reach the hostess desk, we went down two flights of stairs. But the place was cozy, pub like, and filled with a decent number of guests. So, our confidence in our choice was bolstered. The staff were delightful. The food was wonderful!  My guy had the hot Italian sub and I had the rib eye roast beef sub. He really enjoyed the flavor mix of the meats and veggies. Mine just melted in my mouth and was so perfectly seasoned I didn't even look for salt or pepper. My guy also had the Maryland crab soup that he declared to be the best he'd had in months. With soft drinks and tip it cost less than $60 which is not too dear. Especially when you add the enjoyment factor! read more

Our visit tonight left much to be desired. The host that led us to our table was great and got drinks and an appetizer started for us while our waitress was busy. After that things began to flop. Two of our orders were very lackluster. It would be 15 minutes at times we wouldn't see our waitress. Just didn't feel like the whole experience wasn't worth the costs. read more

Rachel and Alyssa are awesome! We stopped in for dinner tonight and sat at the bar. Rachel is super bubbly and greeted us right away and got us our drinks. Alyssa checked on us after we got our food and was very friendly and happy. We got the ribeye sandwich and the smash burger-- both were good but the smash burger was delicious, def recommend. We visited this restaurant on a Thursday night around 6:30 and it was very busy and therefore loud! Luckily, our service was still great. Our food and drinks came quickly and our server was attentive. The appetizers were awesome - definitely recommend the crab wontons! The chicken in our entrees seemed a little overdone, but it was still really good. Overall, I'd return but maybe not during dinner rush just because we had to raise our voices for conversations. read more

This place deserves more stars! Went here for lunch. Waitress was attentive. Atmosphere was nice- had a historic ambiance. The food was good! I got the sandwich brulee, where they made the outside of a hot turkey sandwich crispy with sugar, like creme brulee. I love it when a chef takes a risk and tries something creative and pulls it off. I was a little skeptical but it was good! Fries and coleslaw were also good. My husband got the bbq sandwich and it had an onion ring on it. I'm from the south and have had a lot of BBQ sandwiches, and I can't believe ive never had that before- another tasty innovation. We'll be back for sure! read more

I recently visited this place after over a decade long hiatus. Glad I did!! My wife had a ribeye roast beef sandwich, a.k.a. French dip, and she said it was delicious. We were out for a January motorcycle ride and decided to ride up to Becks. Becks is very nice, great atmosphere and ambience. You do need to get there before Two Oclock, or after Five Oclock, why? Because brunch stops at 2, and the really great lunch/dinner meals aren't available until after Five Oclock. We arrived shortly after two. The menu is very nice and they have some different items that you dont see everywhere else. My wife ordered The French Onion Soup along with The Chicken Quesadilla which the soup was good, I've had better and the Quesadilla was also ok but there was more Tortilla than chicken. I ordered The Ribeye Steak Sandwich which came with Au Jus on the side and Fries which my sandwich lacked taste and was bland. I was expecting a Ribeye Steak on a roll and what I got was thinly sliced steak on a roll which was ok but nothing special, it was basically a French Dip with a different name. They gave me so little Au Jus in a bowl (pictured) but thank goodness they only give you a small amount because The Au Jus had so much grease floating on the top it was inedible. The best thing about my meal was the fries as they was nice and crunchy. Bottom line: we will be back, maybe we just tried the "wrong " stuff as we we both said we would not order the same thing again. But everyone does deserve a second chance. read more
