Decent spot for lunch. We often visit since it is close to our family. On my last visit, 4 out of the 6 of us got the Asian Tuna Salad. The salad was very good, tuna seared well, paired with a tasteful wasabi dressing. The only let down was that everyone's salad had WAY too much red onion. It seemed like half an onion per salad. This joint was in my list for awhile but finally made it out! I'm in Maryland so I had to have a crab dip, and this one has lobster too! Creamy and super cheesy with good chunks of briny crab and lobster... crusty bread was warm and good! The dip was huge for just one person, but I couldn't pass on the Hutzler sandwich... cool shrimp salad on warm garlic cheese toast, I couldn't stop eating!! If I could give more than five stars, I absolutely would. Catonsville Gourmet Seafood is one of those places that reminds you why great restaurants are worth seeking out, even when they are a bit of a drive. The service was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the staff was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. Nothing felt rushed, and it was clear that they cared about creating a great experience, not just turning tables. That level of hospitality immediately sets the tone for a memorable meal. The cocktails were outstanding and deserve special mention. The Sage Pumpkin Old Fashioned was incredible. It was perfectly balanced, warm, and seasonal without being overly sweet or heavy. It felt thoughtfully crafted and is the kind of cocktail you keep thinking about long after you leave. The Ocean's Eleven Club was a solid 10 out of 10. Refreshing, smooth, and beautifully done, it paired perfectly with the food and was dangerously easy to drink. As for the food, it was just as impressive. The Rockfish Calypso was another 10 out of 10. The fish was incredibly fresh, cooked perfectly, and full of flavor. Every bite confirmed that this place takes seafood seriously. Everything we had tasted fresh and well executed, with flavors that complemented the seafood rather than overpowering it. The meal was so good that I have already been trying to figure out how to recreate some of the dishes at home, which is probably the highest compliment I can give a restaurant. This is the kind of food that sticks with you. The location is a bit far, but it is absolutely worth the trip if you are in the area or willing to make a drive for a great meal. I had a work lunch at Catonsville Gourmet a week or so ago, and it was a really nice lunch. Catonsville Gourmet is in the heart of Catonsville and has been since 2008! The restaurant is casual and comfortable but very nice, and so was the service. It was definitely popular on a weekday for lunch! The menu is huge and had lots of tempting options! I had their gourmet shrimp burger (Gulf shrimp pureed with tomato, cilantro, garlic, jalapeno, Cajun spices, lime juice & bread crumbs; Pan-seared golden brown; served with lettuce, tomato & red onion on an artisan roll; and finished with a red pepper aioli & pomme frites), which maybe texturally wasn't perfect, but it was very tasty! It was a nice cafe - great for a business lunch or any other meal. I'd be happy to return. (FYI there's a parking lot behind the restaurant - you don't have to pay for street parking and then play chicken with the traffic to get to the restaurant!) read more

The food is mediocre at best. I got a piece of sea bass fish to go and when I got home , I went to take it out of the bag and quickly realized that it was (bad). Yes, they actually sold me a spoiled piece of sea bass filet. If I ate that, who knows how sick I would have gotten. Someone needs to monitor how long they are storing the raw fish and if it's at the proper temperature. I also thought about getting a slice of cake until they said it was $13 plus taxes. What a ripoff. Honestly, I don't know how they sleep at night. The prices are horribly high for the portion. Crab cakes are small as heck and I got 5 oysters and they actually brought me 5 of the smallest oysters I have ever seen in my life. They were the size of my thumb nail. They should be ashamed of themselves for even thinking of serving those POS clams. I would've never even considered serving them to any customer. This place also charges a 3-4$ service fee to pay, on top of a gratuity. No use complaining as the owner is never there, per raw bar staff. I strongly don't recommend this overpriced, over rated, and bad quality of food establishment. Don't get me started on the extra , extra , extra garlicky mashed potatoes. Run for your life. Cole slaw tasted like it came out of a container- not made freshly. Bottom line- be prepared to pay 5 star money for 2 star food and I'm truly being generous with the 2 star. #never going back read more

I asked my niece to pick out a place for us to have lunch to celebrate her birthday and her starting a new job in a few weeks and she picked Catonsville Gourmet. It was a Sunday so we were able to catch the game and it a great vibe! Our server Jessica was amazing, very attentive and friendly! We ordered the Coastal Blue Crab Bisque, Crab and Lobster dip, Chesapeake Green Tomatoes, and the Tempura Shrimp Roll. I got the Pumpkin Expresso Martini and my niece got a mocktail strawberry mojito. I wasn't crazy about the Chesapeake Green Tomatoes it could use some more flavor but everything else was delicious. I came here on a Sunday for lunch and the place was empty. The service was very attentive. I enjoyed the music selection- very upscale jazz. Their prices have gotten a bit higher over the years. I went with the Talbot Street Toast which is filet mignon tips, lump crab meet, bernaise sauce, and toast with a side of fries. They do not ask what temperature you want the steak and mine came medium to rare while in the past sometimes it is well done. If you have a preference I would recommend talking with your server. I have to cut up the steak and reassemble the toast, but it ends up being very delicious. I think it could've used more blackened seasoning and sauce. Previous to this, we requested a basket of bread (which the busser brought to us) and had to ask the hostess for butter and plates as we waited 5 minutes for our server who was nowhere to be found (FYI - there were total of 8 people seated in the entire restaurant at this time). We then were not offered water refills during our lunch, and 3 of our party members had empty glasses for the remainder of it. And there's always a good selection of oysters. My only complaint is the lack of crab meat in the Maryland crab soup. Come on... you can't even put a little lump in the center to improve the presentation and show that there's actually crab meat in there? We entered the back door as usual, but instead of the raw bar, there are now lots of tables. Turns out Tuesday is 1/2 price wine (by the bottle) so we treated ourselves to a decent Riesling. There are so many options for dinner, plus specials and fresh catch of the day. Every day. I ordered something called _____Aldo? It was angel hair pasta, with shrimp and crab meat. Absolutely delicious! The other entrees were short ribs, crab cake and tuna melt sandwiches, both with sweet potato fries. Everyone loved their meals. We all took most of our dinners home. I was so stuffed I couldn't breathe! Desserts looked great but no room. I really wanted a Mai Tai, but stuck with the . Our server was knowledgeable, energetic with a wonderful attitude. The building used to be a hardware store and I love that you can still see some saved remnants of that in the back of the restaurant. They don't do reservations, but a 30 minute call ahead is allowed. We went on a Saturday evening and it wasn't too packed. For our table of 4, I don't think we needed the call ahead. read more

This restaurant earns the right to call itself gourmet. My friends and I have been here a few times and enjoyed the food ever time. It specializes in seafood though does offer a good menu of beef and chicken dishes as well. On our recent trip I ordered their crabcake entree which came with fresh beans and a tasty diced potato hash. You have the choice of ordering one or two crab cakes. I was satisfied with just one though if I was especially hungry in sure I would have wanted two. The crab cake used only the bear minimum of filler to hold it together, which is to say is mostly fresh, flavorful and moist crab meet! Lightly seasoned, so that the crab meat could really stand out. My friend ordered the grilled fresh Tuna steak which was seasoned with a light teriyaki sauce and on a bed of Asian seasoned rice. The seared tuna was done perfectly with a warm red center. The platter was generous...guaranteeing the need for a takeout box! Service was friendly and courteous, attentive without being intrusive. Ambiance was pleasant, raw bar atmosphere... which is also one of this restaurant's specialties. Parking is behind the building and can achallenge to find a space at peak service hours. read more

The ambiance at the Catonsville location isn't as modern as the one in Towson but has some charm. This time I orders the Hutzlers sandwich which is the shrimp salad sandwich. It was good. I didn't like that the bread got soggy so I decided to just eat the shrimp. I like that there wasn't a lot of mayo. The potato chips were okay, although I got some stale ones. My dining mates ordered the Angry Bayou mussels and fried oyster salad, which I've had in the past in Towson. Our server was good and kept checking in on us. read more

This place receives one star less because they have Pepsi products on tap (gross) and I was less than impressed with the fried green-tomatoes appetizer. Otherwise, I like Catonsville Cafe quite a bit. I've visited several times (but had forgotten that Pepsi detail) though it's not conveniently located to my home. However, I was in Old Ellicott City the other day with my mom. Since we were fairly close to Catonsville Gourmet, I wanted to take her there to try the soft-shell crab sandwich. We arrived around 1pm or so and were promptly seated in a fairly area solo. Our waitress arrived and took our drink order (mine was water), and shortly thereafter took our food order. We decided to split the fried-green tomatoes appetizer, a salad, and the soft-shell crab sandwich. Everything came out at the same time, and per the norm, I started inhaling it before I could take a pic (in my defense, my mom quickly started eating too, so a pic was just super unlikely). As I said, the fried-green tomatoes weren't all that great. They were breaded with something that was on the sweet side, which wasn't appealing to me. My mom and I each had one, and left the third. Luckily the salad was excellent. It was mixed with kale and other greens, plus roasted zucchini, yellow squash, and eggplant. The vinaigrette dressing was an excellent match for the greens. The fries were thin, like shoestring, but not quite. Either way, they were tasty, I'd have eaten them all, but pushed the plate away. And finally, the soft-shell crab sandwich was amazing as usual. I delighted more in my mom's first time experience of it however. Who knew eating an entire exoskeleton would be so good? Afterward we treated ourselves to creme brûlée. It was delicious. Paying was easy. Service was good. Establishment is very clean and parking is a breeze. read more

I wish I went here sooner! It's much larger inside than it looks from the front. The drinks and food were very good!
