    Tempura Shrimp Roll

I asked my niece to pick out a place for us to have lunch to celebrate her birthday and her starting a new job in a few weeks and she picked Catonsville Gourmet. It was a Sunday so we were able to catch the game and it a great vibe! Our server Jessica was amazing, very attentive and friendly! We ordered the Coastal Blue Crab Bisque, Crab and Lobster dip, Chesapeake Green Tomatoes, and the Tempura Shrimp Roll. I got the Pumpkin Expresso Martini and my niece got a mocktail strawberry mojito. I wasn't crazy about the Chesapeake Green Tomatoes it could use some more flavor but everything else was delicious. I would definitely return and I am going to try the Strawberry Feta salad.

Can't wait to go back. Great Maryland style lunch options, including the generously sized and well flavored Hutzler Shrimp Salad sandwich , reminiscent of the old department store's cafe option. The atmosphere was busy but well staffed. We celebrated with a festive fluted gelati desserts. Highly recommend. I'll be back to try other menu items!

My club sandwich was awesome! You can always trust the seafood here to be fresh and tasty. The service was excellent and very fast. The restaurant can get crowded during busy hours but you can call 30 mins ahead to sorta kinda get a reservation in.

I sat at the sushi bar with sat friends for a quick lunch. I ordered the oysters as a little snack. They were a bit small, but fresh. The French Onion soup was good, but I felt it was a bit salty and lacked depth in the flavor. I enjoyed it, but it needed a little something. The Ahi Tuna Nachos were my favorite and the seaweed salad in the middle was great, as well. Catonsville Gourmet has a calm vibe that's great for a lunch or dinner to catch up with family or friends. The service was good too.

My fav happy hour spot in catonsville. Sushi is great. Drinks are great. I wish the bar had more seating, but other than that no complaints. That pasta is worth every cent!

Catonsville Gourmet is one of the better restaurants in town. Maybe even the best. The food is consistently good. The seafood apps and entrees are delicious. And there's always a good selection of oysters. My only complaint is the lack of crab meat in the Maryland crab soup. Come on... you can't even put a little lump in the center to improve the presentation and show that there's actually crab meat in there? And please, make that crawfish stew special one of your regular items. OMG it was so good. The service is great. We've never been disappointed in the quality and friendliness of our server. Plenty of seating options here too... tables, booths, high tops, and the bar. Just a nice and relaxing place to dine.

    It's a special. Something Aldo?

We entered the back door as usual, but instead of the raw bar, there are now lots of tables. Turns out Tuesday is 1/2 price wine (by the bottle) so we treated ourselves to a decent Riesling. We shared the crab and lobster dip, it definitely needs more bread. It was a bit too cheesy for my taste, unlike the perfect dish I tasted twice before. There are so many options for dinner, plus specials and fresh catch of the day. Every day. I ordered something called _____Aldo? It was angel hair pasta, with shrimp and crab meat. Absolutely delicious! The other entrees were short ribs, crab cake and tuna melt sandwiches, both with sweet potato fries. Everyone loved their meals. We all took most of our dinners home. I was so stuffed I couldn't breathe! Desserts looked great but no room. I really wanted a Mai Tai, but stuck with the . Our server was knowledgeable, energetic with a wonderful attitude. Overall, I've got more entrees to try so I'm going back. Soon!

They have wonderful specials! Their crab and lobster dip was also very good. The building used to be a hardware store and I love that you can still see some saved remnants of that in the back of the restaurant. They don't do reservations, but a 30 minute call ahead is allowed. We went on a Saturday evening and it wasn't too packed. For our table of 4, I don't think we needed the call ahead.

Seared fresh tuna steak w teriyaki glaze.

This restaurant earns the right to call itself gourmet. My friends and I have been here a few times and enjoyed the food ever time. It specializes in seafood though does offer a good menu of beef and chicken dishes as well. On our recent trip I ordered their crabcake entree which came with fresh beans and a tasty diced potato hash. You have the choice of ordering one or two crab cakes. I was satisfied with just one though if I was especially hungry in sure I would have wanted two. The crab cake used only the bear minimum of filler to hold it together, which is to say is mostly fresh, flavorful and moist crab meet! Lightly seasoned, so that the crab meat could really stand out. My friend ordered the grilled fresh Tuna steak which was seasoned with a light teriyaki sauce and on a bed of Asian seasoned rice. The seared tuna was done perfectly with a warm red center. The platter was generous...guaranteeing the need for a takeout box! Service was friendly and courteous, attentive without being intrusive. Ambiance was pleasant, raw bar atmosphere... which is also one of this restaurant's specialties. Parking is behind the building and can achallenge to find a space at peak service hours.

This is a familiar place that updates the look and menu now and then, yet still feels like home. We often get a beet salad when it's available. Matthew's is scrumptious, with tender sweet juicy roasted beets, tasty grilled chicken, red onion slices and fresh spinach, tangy crumbled bleu cheese, and delightful candied walnuts, complimented by tart raspberry vinaigrette. By the way, it's gluten-free. We loved the rich cream of crab soup du jour, full of crab lumps and full of flavor, with a little spice from good old Old Bay. Delicious and dreamy. Their quesadillas were served a la carte as an appetizer, loaded with savory roasted chicken, heavy with a mild cheese and a lightly spicy flavorful thick red sauce, rolled in tender lightly seared flour tortillas. Generous and satisfying. Matthew's building dates from around 1862 as a station and hotel at the end of a horse-car line, before electricity! It's been through around 5 names over the years, and has been the Parsons family's Matthew's 1600 since 2004. We've felt comfortable and welcomed here for decades. It has plenty of free parking in their own lot. By the way, many of their already reasonable prices are discounted a little if you pay cash. That's a endearing way of keeping it real in Catonsville, only charging when it costs them.

I for sure thought because of the business, the food had to be good! And it was!! I got the egg roll sampler and loved it. The pasta was recommended and I was not disappointed. The salmon Victoria was supposed to come with a chèvre cheese on it but it was forgotten. We were able to flag down our waiter and inform him of the error and he went to the kitchen to get some on the side. It wasn't on it as it was intended but it was still good. I would come back--especially for the eggroll sampler.

I've eaten here twice and both times very disappointed…read more First time I got what they call old bay wings definitely wasn't old bay spice so I thought that was false advertisement. Second time I went i got the hot roast beef and mash potatoes, when I went to cut a bite I had hard time cutting them I pulled out the bread it was toasted and burnt.Im 60 years old and never had open face beef with toast they have odd ways of cooking and do believe that will be my last visit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been going to GL Shack off and on since the early 2000's. The quality changed during covid,…read moreso I started only focusing on shrimp, wings, burger, and their salads. Over the last few years their side salad went from having bacon and eggs to just lettuce , a couple carrots shavings, two sliced tomatoes and maybe two or three cucumbers. Saturday I was craving a steak and traffic was so backed up going to the restaurant I was originally going to, that I instead decided to just go somewhere close to my house. Upon sitting down I was told they has a berry mojito special so I ordered. It was not good so I only had two sips. Next I ordered the sirloin dinner that was on special. As soon as the sliced steal was placed in front of me I knew it would not be goid. It looked unappealing. Sort of like boiled meat instead of a grilled steak. I took a bite. It was so bad I asked for steak sauce. It was still horrible. I only ate two of the pre-cut slices and told the waitress it was by far the WORST steak I ever had and said I would have wings instead. The wings were good as always. This horrible meal ended up costing me $56 for the uneaten steak dinner, horrible mojito I did not drink, and the wings. The bartender was nice. I use to bartend and if I noticed a customer not drinking a drink I made, i would have asked if they wanted anything else, or I would have remade the drink. The bartenders were nice so I left an $8 tip . This ended up being the most expensive buffalo wings I ever had. I was exhausted after having a long work week and not having eaten breakfast or lunch so I just paid and left without complaining.
