Ace app is lousy. Will change your "My Store" to a store that you didn't select. Well, that's neither here nor there. One Ace store advertised lawnmower for $449 less $50 for rewards members, which I am. Exact lawnmower rang up at $499 at the store that I thought I had selected. But, lo and behold, the price I was looking at was a different Ace. At this store, they would NOT match the price of the other Ace that was selling it at $449, plus online! The Ace I was standing in lost the sale as I went to Lowes and bought the mower for $399. Management should review their customer service policy. Plus, their price was $100 more for a non-rewards member than Lowe's price. read more

A place for stuff A hardware marine type store located conveniently on Rt. 117. It's not as small as the old fashion places but not as huge as the massive, impersonal home improvement places. Just the right size to probably find what you want but still get the personal service you might need. The store has all the usual bolts, nuts, hinges and tools and also has some marine stuff thrown in. It even has a table with reduced items in the front. The people working there know what they are talking about and take the time to make sure you can actually make use of whatever it is you're buying. I checked the website to see if they had an item in stock on Saturday night. When I placed the item in the cart, it said available for pick up today. My husband went the next day to buy the item, but the spot on the shelf for the item was bare. A salesperson asked if he found what he was looking for. My husband told him no and asked if they had any in the stock room. He was told if there isn't any on the shelf then they don't have it. He said the next delivery truck would be Wednesday so check back. I thought it was strange the site said they had it, but the salesperson couldn't be bothered to check the stockroom. So I went ahead and ordered it on Monday night. Shortly after I placed the order, I got an email stating the item was ready for pick up. My husband went there on Tuesday afternoon and told the salesperson who gave him the order the item was there on Sunday and what happened with the other salesperson who had waited on him. My husband asked when the last delivery truck was and the associate said Friday. My husband said he was there on Sunday and what the other associate told him. I like Salk's. Local place with a little bit of everything. Are the prices the cheapest? Well no, probably not. But it's right down the road from me, people are friendly and helpful, and you can find all kinds of useful items you didn't know you needed. Parking's easy and the store is clean. Sometimes it just so much nicer to go to a smaller place than to the big box stores. Actually, Salk's is bigger than it appears from the outside, lots of corners and back areas to explore. Went here on a Sunday to get gas before they stopped selling at 4:45 arrived at 4:30 rang the bell waited a few minutes rang it again and waited so more. I am not handy, I do not do home improvements BUT I did go here with my boyfriend the other day to pick up some items to finish up our fence. Super friendly staff. Not just one but THREE people asked us if we needed help while we were there. I like the smaller feel as opposed to the Home Depots or Lowes of the world where you need to hunt someone down to grab you something fro the highest shelf ever built. The selection looked pretty all encompassing and we left with everything we needed in hand. Job well done Ace. read more

We purchased three propane tanks from the North Kingston store this winter 2017-18 which do not work because they were not purged says the store manager when approached. He also said there was nothing they could do. So now we are stuck with three tanks full of bad gas. We have spent thousands in this store. For a loyal customer that was not what we wanted to hear. Also the staff in this store is not the friendliest we've experienced. The workers are not approachable and when we approach them it is like they are being bothered. This place would be fine if they gave a damn about their employees. The turnover rate here must be absolutely ridiculous. The only ones that stick around are totally clueless or are backed into a corner for a job. The owner clearly doesn't care about his employees, and I wouldn't doubt if he cuts hours to keep people under full-time/under the minimum hours needed to pay for mandatory healthcare. There are better places to shop that actually care about the people who work for them. Go there instead if you care about employers paying their workers a living wage. read more

Have been a loyal customer for years and always gave my business first to them, after today no more. If salks fills a propane tank and you bring it home and it leaks gas, what do you think should happen. No so at salks , I was told nothing they could do about it and that the tank was expired. Well if that is the case, why fill it? I would have gladly paid for a new inspected tank, but to not offer a credit on a propane fill due to the circumstances is not worth the loss if even one customer. Used to love this place. Unfortunatly I had a pretty bad customer experience which may keep me from going back. Saw an item in store on a shelf marked at $14.99. Took it to ring out only to be told it was more expensive. I was told they couldnt do anything about it. Even walmart will honor a mis marker item. Pretty disappointed. read more

I have never given a review (good or bad) but I just left Salks and am not happy. I purchased a brand new boat and 6hp motor from them in very late June, spending nearly $4,000.00. Used the dinghy several times and everything was fine. On Friday September 2nd I took the dinghy for a ride and docked it with no problem. Shortly after I went to restart the motor and the pull cord was frozen, appeared to be some sort of a linkage issue. I called Salks and they said "bring it down and we will have the mechanic take a look at it". I was happy with that, being Labor Day weekend I wanted to have the dinghy working. When I got to Salks they said the mechanic comes in and picks up the motors and brings them back in a week or so. Had I known that I probably would have just brought it to the mechanic across the street, assuming it was just a minor adjustment. Over two weeks later I called to check the status and they told me that the motor wasn't picked up until the 17th of September. Today (Saturday September 24th) I received a call informing me that the motor was repaired and that I had a balance due of $87.00. When I asked why it wasn't under warranty I was told I needed to talk to the service manager. I went to pick up the motor and was told the service manager was on break. When the young cashier asked someone what to do, a women's voice from somewhere in the store hollered in front of everybody "don't release the motor until he pays in full". Needless to say it was at the least a little embarrassing. To sum it up, the mechanics notes were that the motor was laid down on the wrong side, which I found odd because it never came off the dinghy, and he had to remove the spark plug and clean the carburetor and never mentioned the pull cord issue. I paid them the $87.00 ransom to get my engine back and will never step foot in one of their stores again. It's a shame because I really liked the staff and products up until this episode. read more

I visited this store today 2/23/15 @ 12:00pm looking for ice melt, they did have some, however, I did have a question. I approached the cashier, (blonde, didn't get her name), to ask my question. I started out.... "The ice melt..... she cut me right off and said "that's all we have sir". So I continued my question.... "is it pet safe". She responded quite sarcastically "No sir, it's salt." At that point I just said, thank you and left the store. I have been in customer service over 30 years. This blonde woman, who has been at this store for years, needs retraining or to be replaced. read more

I really like the idea of a local hardware store but unfortunately this one has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. After a 45 attempt to buy a grill with one issue after another the manager "Adam" finally decided to help is clearly struggling employee. Adam's customer service skills were far from management level to say the least so we decided to leave. We had been extremely patient up until this point as the staff tried to find the serial number, and figure out the various issues but Adam's careless and unprofessional behavior was not worth working with. read more
