I just want to give a shoutout to Salles Cafe in Tulare. Every time I'm there, I see Joyce going above and beyond--not just for her tables, but for everyone in the room. She's constantly checking on guests, helping wherever needed, and making sure people are taken care of, even when it's not for her own tip. That kind of work ethic and care really stands out. I've gone multiple times during the posted hours for breakfast to try this place and it's always closed.

It wasn't bad, it was super packed so it did take almost an hour to get our food. The waitress was so busy we weren't offer refills, so we ate most of our food without anything to drink. It's a small restaurant so it felt super tight, you can hear everyone conversation. The food, was ok. I did order the biscuit and gravy and did not like it. Thats usually my go to everywhere I go but it just wasn't it. The country potatoes are just potatoes fried. They were good tho. Over all I tried and probably would not return. The price is great tho, so if you're just looking for super inexpensive and have the time, I'd say give it a try. read more

We had not been here in a long time. I told my wife today idk why we don't come here more often. Bcz this place has amazing food. Today we were on our way to Bakersfield for the March Meet Drag Race. I remembered we ate here years ago and thought we would check it out again. I was surprised we got a seat right away. Which was nice bcz I really wanted to get to Bakersfield. But I was just surprised because it's a Saturday morning and this place is pretty popular. The young lady ask what we want to drink and then brought us our coffee. Another young last came and took our order. I decided on the chicken fried steak with hash browns and scrambled eggs. My wife just wanted a pancake with an egg with bacon. While we waited we checked out the decor of the restaurant. It's a typical restaurant that serves the ag community. It has counter seating that wraps around where the workers are and they have a larger room for more guests. Cozy but nothing fancy. Our food arrived and it looked great. I like to try everybody's chicken fried steak. Bcz not everyone makes it good. I can tell you Salles has a great chicken fried steak breakfast! This breakfast was delicious. Lucky for me my wife couldn't finish her pancake and bacon. So me being the loving husband I am. I took one for the team and finished it for her. The pancake and bacon were equally delicious. In all the years of being in Tulare Co, I decided to try a local cafe that has deep roots in Tulare. Salles Cafe did not disappoint. From the outside it looks like a dive not too fancy but don't let that fool you. Theres great parking in the back and a nice patio area. When you walk inside you'll be surprised on how big, warm and inviting this place appears. i choose to sit at the counter since there is plenty of counter space and I had a good view of all the patrons in the establishment. This place isn't really fancy and you can tell this place has a lot of regulars from local farmers retirees and business owners in the area. I had an appointment in Tulare so I decided to stop by for breakfast and I was really surprised that they offered mimosas, so why not this #YelpEliter loves champagne almost any day of the week. Excellent service & everything is on the counter for easy access. Condiments, hot sauce, sugar, S&P all on a lazy Susan. No need to bug your server Q5min. I was greeted w/ water & coffee. Vanilla creamer on hand so that's a plus. I ordered a waffle breakfast topped w/ strawberries w/ 2 eggs poached & 2 sausage links. My server delivered my breakfast just the way I like it w/o even asking. Got my waffle first since my eggs take a little bit longer to cook. My eggs were cooked to perfection & so was my sausage. I've driven by Salles many times and thought "I should try that place. They always look busy." Well I finally did and can see why. It's a diner. Usual fare. Menu has the classic diner breakfast menu with an added Portuguese twist. But what isn't as common is how clean it is. Bright, clean and open is what you see when you walk in. And a huge throwback to classic diner ambiance, the service is fantastic. Very friendly, attentive staff that keeps checking in on you. Not common these days, and very much appreciated. Food was good. Didn't get anything out of the ordinary, but did get my potatoes Portuguese style, which is a garlicky onion and tomato sauce. Was not a huge fan of the breakfast gravy, had a little too much flour taste to me. But I see why they're busy, and I'll be back too. read more

Very decent food. This is a good place to stop if you're passing through and looking for good food at a decent price. We ordered the meat lovers omelet, which came with country potatoes and biscuits and gravy. The biscuits and gravy were my favorite thing. Plenty of food! Hidden gem, perfect for solo or families. Have a back room for larger parties. My husband loves the Chile verde omelette with extra chile verde! And a must is the country potatoes a mix of tater tots and potato wedges is best way I can describe them. I love the crunchy French toast when I am craving something sweet! I will not be returning. within minutes of sitting down a group of "farmers and dairyman" were sitting at the counter and began placing dice (by putting said dice in a cup) and began slamming it on the counter top. They then proceeded to laugh and talk loudly. After being in the vicinity for a while, I contacted the waitress and explained that it was extremely loud. I requested somewhere quieter and was moved to a room. I explained to the waitress the issue of the noise and how it triggered my PTSD. The waitress proceeded to tell me that the group were farmers and dairyman and that they had been coming there for generations doing the same exact thing. The waitress proceeded to tell me that she enjoyed their company and their game. The waitress left and moments later the noise got even worse. I ate my meal, paid for it, and left. I will not be returning. My issue with the waitress was that she did not address the issue after having discussed the issue with her. My issue also was the sense of entitlement on behalf of the group of individuals that showed zero respect for the other people within the diner. Just because the behavior was allowed does not mean that it should be allowed. Not to mention grown men acting like children and being disrespectful because of who they are and what they've been handed down. read more

Came here for breakfast while in town because it was near our hotel and had incredible yelp reviews! At first glance heading down the road we started to think this may not be for us, as the area looks a little... older... but once we pulled up to the restaurant everything looked clean, newer, and safe so we felt better. Just pointing this out so no one turns around before making it there! Inside it feels like a traditional diner with basic seating, and a counter. They have an expansive menu with lots of options. We weren't very hungry so we split a sausage breakfast burrito with home fries between 3 people and it was PLENTY. The burrito was good, but the home fries were SO GOOD. I highly recommend both! The waitress was friendly and happily shared the history of the restaurant with us. We enjoyed seeing the historical pictures, menus, and newspaper clippings on the wall. read more

I have eaten here a handful of times and the food is decent. I don't think there's anything that special about it, but it isn't bad. The food is fresh and the prices are okay. The service isn't great, that's really my only qualm. Usually when I've gone in, it's taken awhile for someone to greet me even if they look me dead in the eyes. For the people saying they're racist, I don't think that's it. I just don't think they know what good customer service is/don't care. The servers are usually nice once we are seated, it's just the initial walking in and waiting to be seated that needs improvement. I can see why people would be put off. Anyway, it's not my go to place but it's definitely a place I would consider eating at on a Sunday after church or a random Saturday for lunch. That's the vibe. read more

The food and service are great! The only thing that bothers me is the group of older men who set at the counter drinking coffee for hours and stare at the customers coming in to eat. They sit on the far side of the counter that curves around and faces the dining area. Got here this morning for breakfast! I like this diner because it's nicely decorated and clean. It'd be a fun car hop stop, for sure. I sat at the counter. The counter was nice and big with lots of arm room. I ordered the Chile verde with medium eggs, country potatoes, biscuits and gravy and the crunchy French toast. Everything was super tasty. I couldn't handle the portions though. Ughhhh I was SO stuffed. This place is definitely good for sharing plates. The crunchy French toast was so satisfying. French toast, coated with Frosted Flakes!?? And then pan fried!!! Add a touch of butter and syrup?!! Fahgetabboutit. The Chile verde had a nice, tangy Chile verde and the pork was tender. I got to chatting with a local, sitting to my right. He was nice and friendly! To my left, there was a younger man who didn't seem to interested in making small talk, lol. Which is cool! My waitress was very sweet and friendly and helped me decide what to order. Must stop and check this place out for yourself! We used to live Salles. But the staff and food have gone down hill, and the prices have gone up astronomically.

I get chili/hobo omelettes every cafe I go to and this one had no flavor. The potatoes were very good, but they were supposed to be country styled potatoes and it's not what I was expecting. Boyfriend got a breakfast sandwich and it was a lot better. Hope to go back and try their crunchy French toast seems to be very popular. They also were out of a lot of things when we went. read more
