You can't miss the building, with its whimsical signature black bear statues. I stopped on in for lunch. The customer service was terrific and the food was good, just like the typical Black Bear way. The main dining area had booth seating with some counter seating. I suppose there was table seating but I didn't see any in the main area. I ordered the customized breakfast of a waffle, bacon, and scrambled eggs. The waffle smelled like vanilla. It's a biggum... pretty large size. It has the signature bear claw waffle print which I adore. It could have been a bit crispier still delicious though. The syrup is maple syrup, so no High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS). The waffle mix also doesn't contain HFCS. Even the ketchup they serve is free of HFCS. So appreciate that. The bacon was thick cut and cooked perfectly, the two entire pieces were cooked evenly to a perfect crispy doneness. Not an easy feat. Our waitress was great. Big smile and welcoming attitude. We were able to get multiple checks for our table. When it came time to pay the bill with the cashier, there was a long line. Not surprising considering it was the lunch rush. The manager opened up the other register and quickly moved us all along. Very efficient.

We came across Ol Buckaroo off a recommendation by our AirBnB Host. It was so good we came in TWICE for dinner on different days during our stay. I'll highlight both meals I had. But first, the service was great. Both times we came in the restaurant wasn't terribly busy (around 5 PM on weekdays) and we were seated right away. Keep in mind by 6ish/6:30 loads of customers were coming in. The restaurants is cute and small inside with maybe 10-12 tables, but a ton of outdoor seating with mist-fans. We decided to stay inside both times. Our servers who take care of us on both days were attentive and kind, getting us everything we needed quickly and constantly checking on us. Regarding the food: 1st night I ordered the "Pesto Pasta with chicken"--Spaghetti with a creamy basil pesto sauce. To drink I ordered their house-made soda--soda with Watermelon flavoring (yum). You get a large portion of delicious spaghetti (definitely your money's worth) soaked in pesto sauce. The chicken was tender and moist. It was a perfect, carb-filled meal following a long day of hiking. The soda was also tasty and fresh. I highly recommend this dish to anyone coming in with some big-time hunger. The 2nd visit I ordered the "Buckaroo Burger:"--a durham ranch beef patty, American Cheese, lettuce, tomato and Buckaroo sauce. I had a side of fries and to drink, the "Pims Cup:" Sparkling Water, lemon, cucumber, and fruit garnish. On the menu the drink is described as, "slightly sweet and refreshing with a hint of anise flavor," perfectly described and true. The burger was good (maybe not as good as the Pesto Pasta I had a couple nights before, but good). It was everything a good burger should be! Ol Buckaroo contributed to our amazing stay and vacation and we hope to come back one day. We'll definitely be recommending to any of our friends and family who ever plan to go to Sequoia or Kings Canyon National Parks. What a gem.

The service it's always excellent here, but this time was super excellent…read more Our hosts and our waiter were super attentive. Maybe because I had my beautiful daughters with me and they took all the great attention. It was 2 weeks after my oldest daughter birthday but somehow our male waiter said I heard it was somebody's birthday and I said yes. My daughter's birthday was not long ago. So they treat her with a belated birthday celebration. It was so nice from him. So, when we got there we ordered our drinks and right after we got the drinks we ordered our food. My grandbaby ordered the chicken tenders with fries from the kids menu. My youngest love their burger. My oldest got the filet Mignon with mushrooms and fresh salad. I got my usual the veggie sandwich with fries. The waiter brought us everything but the filet Mignon. It was taking a while to be cooked. So he gravely left offered my daughter complimentary soup to mitigate the wait. And she got it. So when we finished eating the food he arrived with a huge plate with chocolate cake and ice cream and a big birthday torch. It look so nice and delicious. My grand baby ate all his chicken and left some fries. He said he loved the chicken and they were satisfying. My youngest daughter like I mention before. She loves their burger. So she was satisfied too. I so loved the veggie sandwich on a wheat bread. I just love all the fresh veggies they put in there. It had mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes. With some mayo. Also the fries were very crispy. I really love it. My oldest mention she loved the soup and the salad. She kind of ate a little bit of the filet Mignon and mushrooms. She took the left over home. She mention the meat was so juicy and well seasoned. It was so tender and tasty. The dessert they brought us for free and the soup. So my youngest, my grand baby and the three of them ate the dessert after we sang happy birthday. I thought it was a very nice gesture of him to do that for my daughter. Highly recommended. You have the very nice view while you eat too. You have to reserve to be able to be outside. Thank you for the great experience.

We ended up going to Sequoia Cafe down the road instead, which was less expensive anyway. The location has real potential given the view, but cutting off breakfast that early seems like it's costing them business. A little more flexibility on hours would probably help.

Not sure if it was a one time thing or a season thing but I do NOT recommend outside sitting after sundown. My wife and I got SWARMED by these little green bugs ( obviously from the River ) the server didn't care too much about how bothering it was to have 10+ bugs on our food. Eventually we had to be asked to be moved in and thankfully we were. Funny part is that shortly after us, about 7-8 other tables from outside also moved in because of the bugs hahaha. Not a bad enough experience to hate the place IMO but should be taken better care of. Maybe a net around the dinning area could solve the issue idk

Food is always consistent and I have yet to be disappointed. Whether having breakfast or lunch, it's always great! When available, I splurge for the steak and eggs special. Steak is thick, char grilled and cooked to your desired temp. The country potatoes are always crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, seasoned well. Adding bell peppers and onions adds to the experience. Eggs always cooked perfectly and toast soft yet crisp with plenty of butter. Highly recommend. The breakfast bowl is my wife's go to. A little bit of everything. Crispy country potatoes, sweet grilled onions, bell peppers, bite size sausage, bacon and plenty of cheddar cheese. Then topped with eggs cooked to your liking. The interior is modernized (not overdone), clean, and welcoming, with a nice quote on the wall that adds character. I ordered the breakfast burrito ($11). It's simple but very well seasoned (scrambled eggs, potatoes, and cheddar cheese). No meat, which I was craving, but the herbs and spices definitely carry the flavor. Not sure what they use, but it's tasty. Portion-wise, it's a solid medium-to-large burrito and comes split in half, so it could easily be shared. I've seen bigger burritos elsewhere, but this one is filling enough. That said, $11 feels a bit pricey for something so simple. I totally understand inflation, but I think adding a protein option like bacon, ham, or sausage would really elevate it and make the price feel more justified. Service was quick; about five minutes total and the cashier was very friendly. I mentioned it was my first time there and that I'm part of Yelp Elite. I kind of wish there had been a bit more engagement at that point, like suggesting a popular item or checking with the manager about anything for Yelpers. Not a dealbreaker at all, just a missed opportunity to go the extra mile. Overall, good food, chill environment, friendly service, and efficient turnaround.
