I spent over $200 at this Sally Beauty location (Ocean Gate Shopping Center in Hawthorne, CA) on July 22, 2025, and left feeling dismissed and undervalued as a customer. When I walked in, a Latina associate greeted me kindly, but she went on break shortly after. The only other staff present -- a Latino male associate with glasses -- was unhelpful and dismissive. I asked about semi-permanent dyes and a matching facial cream from the Bliss rose-scented line. His responses were vague: "I think we're out," or "I have no idea," with no effort to check or follow up. Meanwhile, another customer -- a Black woman who appeared lighter-skinned with straight hair -- was offered help without even asking. I was visibly shopping and asking questions, yet I received minimal engagement. The contrast in treatment was disappointing. I submitted a formal complaint, followed up via email, and was told on July 25 that the issue was being escalated to "field management." As of August 5, I've received no update, no resolution, and no goodwill gesture -- despite spending over $200 on that visit. I've had great experiences at Sally Beauty's Irvine location, which makes this store's handling even more frustrating. If this is resolved appropriately, I'll update this review. But right now, I cannot recommend this location based on the lack of accountability. read more

Blanca provided 5 star service! I went in for products to bleach my hair, she suggested different products than I'd been using and noticed how dry my hair had become from bleaching and suggested a product to repair and moisturize my hair! Everything she suggested worked out really well, I appreciated her help since I learned to bleach my hair from YouTube. Great location, well stocked with great service! Thanks Blanca! read more

She completely ruined my hair it turned out a grey green tint .. when i wanted to go for a light auburn and had my items already picked because i already had done it before!!!! Taylor and Denise gave me the worse Sally's experience ever. These two cashiers were rolling their eyes (between each other) talking about my need for service and frowning at me throughout my whole Sally's shopping experience. I have been a Sally's member/customer and licensed cosmetologist for over 25 years and I have never experienced this type of treatment. I will never buy products at Sally's ever again. I have never had a bad experience at Cosmoprof. Cosmoprof is where I will purchase all my products. This Hawthrone location needs a new manager or new employees and or all employees needs retraining. Best Sally's I've been to. The employee I forget her name, short frost blue hair, was so knowledgeable about colors. She helped get the perfect dark red with the perfect mixes of dye. I went into the store, at the Oceangate Plaza in Hawthorne, hoping for a small miracle! I approached the Sales Associate. He said that if I needed help, he would be there to do so. I then, proceeded to explain my circumstance. Jesus listened, he looked me up in the system & did all he could to complete a fair transaction. At the end of it all, I left the store with a product that I like & use! I was left with a good feeling about the interaction. There was absolutely ZERO drama! I was very relieved about that! This morning I went to Sally's. I stood outside for 5 minutes and the associate looked at me for the whole 5 minutes and then proceeded to put a sign on the door that said that the store was closed for system maintenance. I thought that was very rude of her to when she saw me standing there. She could have opened the door and spoke instead of putting a sign on the door and walking away. That was very unprofessional and if that is how Sally's chooses to hire their employees, you will no longer be getting any of my money read more

Walked into Sally's there were no other customers. We were not greeted and the sales associates Anise and Brenda were at the registers having a personal conversation that did not cease despite us asking about the sale that was advertised on the store window. The associate Anise dismissively stated, "it's in the back" and they continued conversing. We left the store after no one came to help us out and another customer of their race walked into Sally's and was immediately greeted and offered assistance in which she received. It was perceived as discriminatory so although we came in with an intent to buy we were not going to spend our money at a store that disregarded our presence and clearly did not want our business! This place isn't bad. In my opinion, it's pretty good for a chain beauty supply...pretty good because it has a nice selection of supplies for natural/textured hair. All of my favorite natural brands are carried here and are in stock when I need them (Mixed Chicks, Cantu, Dark and Lovely Au Naturale, Taliah Wajiid, Shea Moisture, AsIAm, etc.) The prices are competitive with other beauty supplies and big name stores. Get the Sally club card to save a buck here and there. Overall, 4 stars for convenience and selection. read more

I come here often to get my hair toner and developer. They have everything I need all the time...that's why I continue to come here. If fact, that's the only reason why I continue to come here. The staff is nice, but YOU have to confront them. They will walk right past you MULTIPLE times and not acknowledge you. They have never asked if I needed help etc. I went in there today, they had about 5 girls on the clock...ALL 5 were restocking as customers are roaming around the store. They should have like 3 people restocking and 2 people helping customers. Or whatever. I'm walking down the aisle where my toner is usually at, but it wasn't there. They ran out supposedly. So I decided to test the employees a little. I walked by one of them and I looked confused (on purpose) and she DID notice me, but then decided to ask her coworker across the aisle "when do you wanna take your 10 min break?" ............ I'm sorry, I never EVER write reviews, but I have had it. She finally decided to ask me if I needed help, and I said "thank you, I'm looking for my toner in color T18, but I think you're out of them" .... then she says "oh! We have it here in this box that we're about to open and stock up" ..... I was thinking to myself.... i was walking around looking dumb for 15 minutes and not ONE, out of the FIVE employees, asked if I needed help. ⁠ Friday 6/25/2021 at the Sally Beauty in Ocean Gate Hawthorne, California we were confronted with a racist manager who refused to sale my black bf 100$ worth of merchandise saying the money was fake and made him leave the store. I came back inside and asked the Manager Olivia to check the money with her marker or counterfeit checker because I was just in the store alone and she was fine and not only did she refuse to she called the police on us. She then changed the story to" well it felt fake she could tell and also she didn't know 2$ bills exist." She said she wasn't comfortable taking his money I told her to check the money with whatever policy they have in place and she refused losing 100$ sale and calling the police to make me leave. Obviously an officer can not force a manager to check my money but I pled because fake money is a federal crime I was willing to put that on the line to show my money his money was real. My three year old daughter was there but I kept her in the car with him because I didn't want her to hear what was going on. I called corporate and they never followed up reached out or even sent an email. How could this happen to us? read more

I have seen this store here for a good 15+ years and never thought I would find myself in it. Well that changed yesterday. If you know me, you know I dig my hair being short, like no guard on a pair of hair clippers short. I would ideally like to have my hair cut every 3 days or so but paying $25 including tip every 3 days just doesn't seem right. So what did I do to fix this problem? I got my barber to spill the beans on what type of clippers they use to cut my hair. I said I wanted to get a pair for a friend who is a barber. They told me basically down to the model number. When I got home I looked up that brand (Wahl) & Model number on amazon and found a pair of exact same clippers on Amazon for just about $60, so I ordered them. The clippers arrived just about a week later. The clippers included a small bottle of Oil. Well I am back to cutting my hair every 3 days and that small bottle of oil that was included did not last very long. When I ran out of oil I checked online and found the oil but they also wanted shipping costs. My very next thought that popped into my head was Sally's Beauty Supply might have it. I stopped by yesterday (05-04-2013). I walked in, asked the cashier if they carried oil for clippers. Low & behold there was the same Wahl Oil I observed online right behind the cashier desk. The price was about a dollar more than it was listed online but without having to pay shipping costs. The employee / cashier when I selected the Wahl oil said that she had a pair of Wahl clippers (for what who knows, because she had hair) and that she loved them. I cannot think of a reason I would ever have to come back here. The little oil bottle I purchased seems like it will last a lifetime (by lifetime I mean 5 years). I did find it interesting that on the side of the bottle it clearly tells you swallowing this oil could be fatal, dang!!!!!!!!!!!! This Sally's shares its parking lot with a Michaels and Food-4-Less, even with these two large businesses in the same parking lot, parking does not seem like it is an issue, the lot is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!! read more

The place is tiny, yes, but they have a very good selection of human hair extensions that work for white people. This may seem like a duh, but when you live in my area, it's very difficult to find fine/straight/blond hair extensions. I was able to find 10" ones that PERFECTLY matched my hair so I didn't even need to get them dyed. Anyhoo, if you're expecting discount eye shadows, maybe you shouldn't come here, but if you want to spice up your hair style, this place is heaven. read more

Ok so here is the thing I normally dislike Sally's they either don't have the products I'm looking for or as a black women with thick kinky hair I don't find anyone there that understands my hair( they might try but let's be real if you don't have thick hair kinky hair then you just can't help me ) BUT WITH THIS BEING SAID I FINALLY FOUND A SALLYS WITH SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS MY HAIR !! The associates here greeted me right away and were nice about helping me find products and answering questions. They have a full range of products. However, Sally Beauty Supply isn't the cheapest for their products. I just go to get a couple of items that my favorite wholesale beauty nail supply store (Skyline) doesn't have. They include an acetone formula specifically for natural nails. It works just as fast as full strength acetone, but it seems less harsh. Also, a nail soak to remove the stains some polishes can leave. The store could also go for a revamp and cleaning. read more

Sally Beauty has always provided me with helpful service, and quality products. I'm not sure what else one could ask for. I come here for all my hair coloring products, and their selection is worth noting. I buy the do it yourself hair highlighting kit, and it works like a charm for my dark hair. I then apply a color afterwards to give it a little depth. I only wish they would carry more of the really high end beauty products and hair products, they are limited to the most commercially affordable and demanded of course. read more

I stopped in the other day while traveling for work to pick up some (YouTube famous) eco styler gel, they had a great selection and plenty of each in stock. As I walked in I overheard one of the sales ladies helpfully discussing tips and suggestions for hair care and products with another customer (who'd also come in because of YouTube.) I passed the other sales lady on my way to the gel and she offered to help me, but I knew exactly what I wanted. The store was clean and easy to navigate. I almost ended up grabbing extra items just because it was so easy to shop the store, but I stuck to my goal and got out of there. The experience was quick, easy and exactly what I'm used to with sally stores, which is why it didn't occur to me to write a review until I visited another location near my sister's and checked out yelp to see if there is one near my place. The reviews for that one are just embarrassing from a business pov. I think I'll wait until I'm in this area again for my next sally visit. read more

This is my favorite Sally's, even though there's another one directly in my neighborhood (in Venice on Lincoln), I rather drive all the way to this one. The store manager and staff are fantastic, skilled, consumer friendly, great customer service, I can only recommend! While on the other side, I really warn you to go to the Venice location in Lincoln, they are the first. I've been a customer there for over 4 years and every time I hated going there, it was just so close. They are very rude and exactly the opposite to this one. So wherever you live, it's with driving here, this is a great Sally's Beauty outlet. Highly recommended! read more

I went in today to exchange my products because I wasn't satisfied with my color results and clearly the receipt says if your not satisfied you can clearly get your refund back or exchange of purchase of the item. I walk in the store and let the girl know and she looks at my bag and tells me that the bottles were empty and clearly the were because used them & she tells me that they can't do that because there was no product. Like of course there's not going to be because I had obviously used it so I asked her why I couldn't exchange it and she tells me that there at least hast to be half product in the package. I don't honestly think that's the way it works because your obviously going to use the products you purchased to see if they work on you or not . I will call tomorrow to the customer service line and complain to them because that just doesn't make any sense. Not just that they girl that attended me was rude and gave me a really dumb look when I told her about my unsatisfaction .
