Closer to a 3.5 than a 3, but I can't quite bring myself to round up. Sally's is a tiny little place, like many BBQ shacks - only about five tables. You order at the counter. The service was fairly friendly and they brought our food as well as cups of ice for our drinks out to us. We ordered two loaded baked potatoes, a pork sandwich, and a smoked chicken plate. The smoked chicken was probably the most well-received. It was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Beans and coleslaw were unremarkable. The toast was pretty good - very buttery and garlicky. The pork loaded baked potatoes were just alright. They needed more sour cream and cheese, in my opinion, although I liked that they salted the skin; don't see that too often. The pork itself had great smoke flavor but was a little on the fatty side side and a bit too salty. The potato itself was also quite a bit smaller than many other loaded pork potatoes you get elsewhere, but the price at least reflected that. There was an option between small and large on the menu, but we weren't offered that option when ordering. I wonder if she assumed we wanted the small. Well, if you're very hungry, I'd say try getting the large. It's only 2 dollars more. Pork sandwich suffered from the same pork problems, but didn't have the greatness of a potato to balance it out - just an anemic hamburger bun. Our first visit we both got a two meat plate each . I got chicken and pulled pork with bbq beans and potato salad. My hubby got the brisket and pulled pork with French fries and sliced fried potatoes. They have the best brisket my husband and I have ever tasted ! The chicken is very moist and flavorful. Everything we tasted was very yummy!! The second time we went we got takeout . We got 1/2 of brisket , a whole chicken, side of beans, side of sliced potatoes, side of potato sauce and a side of coleslaw. Again everything was delicious !!! So the side dishes are hit and miss depending on what you get and your preferred tastes. But the ribs and brisket were very impressive. I'm from Austin, TX so I've been exposed to a lot of good BBQ. Small town BBQ at its best. The smell of smoke will start the mouth watering before you even set foot in the joint. Menu is pretty standard for a BBQ joint with all of the old favorites, done well. We both had combo plate - a steal at $9.50. She had chicken and brisket, I had pork and brisket. Chicken was actually a half chicken, a lot of meat for half of a combo plate, and done rotisserie style. Brisket was tender and moist though a bit on the fatty side but not so much to be detrimental. Pulled pork was excellent. Sauces come in three: sweet mild, original, and hot. The sweet mild was a perfect counterpoint to the meat, and my SO said the hot had just the right spice. Sides were coleslaw, Mac-n-cheese, and potato salad - all of which were excellent additions to the meal. Also included a buttered piece of Texas toast. Tea has unlimited refills. Wow! Amazing beef brisket (got the fatty end), and pulled pork! Sally (a man!) sure cooks a mean butt! His wife cooks a mean peach cobbler and is a wonderful hostess. So glad Yelp led us here! So fortunate to live near these guys. Not just our favorite BBQ but also some our very favorite people. We almost always eat the BBQ baked potato but the ribs are excellent, the brisket is always perfect, and those homemade desserts. Warm. Banana.Pudding. Really a 4.5 on the BBQ scale. I've a friend that could eat BBQ everyday, so since his wife won't allow that, I've had to eat at a lot of joints. I had only a brisket sandwich. No sauce at all (my test) and it is really good. The only thing that could have improved my experience would have been a savory sauce for after my no sauce test.
