    Half rack--enormous!
    Jordan T.

My husband and I are religious about eating our Saturday BBQ. The other day we went to our regular place and found that they were closed, so we tried out Rib Shak instead. It was fine, but by no means would we choose it over our normal BBQ place. I ordered the BBQ sandwich and fries with sweet tea, and my husband ordered the ribs--wet--with fries and tea. My sandwich was fine, but the sauce tasted like what you would get from the BBQ section at Walmart. The fries were VERY tasty though. My husband was hugely disappointed with the ribs. Again, the sauce tasted like it came straight out of the bottle. He was very disappointed that a place called RIB Shak would not have out-of-this-world ribs and sauce. The two staff members we saw were nice, but they weren't really around much. Our food took a long time to appear. At one point I saw the cook leave for a good 10 minutes and come back with a grocery bag--made me think they might have really just gone to the store to buy some BBQ sauce!! Who knows. All in all, I wouldn't go here again. It's not bad, but it's just not good--why eat somewhere that isn't excellent if there are other places that ARE excellent right down the road? P.S. Part of the dining area is basically a storage area for them. There was a pool table that was just covered with all sorts of junk. Strange.

When we drove up, we could smell the hickory smoke and saw the smoker on the sidewalk in front. When we walked in, we were told that menus are on the checkout counter, so I went to grab 2, but before we knew it, the uncle of the owner started reading every item on the menu for an uncomfortably long time. I'm a visual guy so I need to read menus at my own pace. We ordered the lunch combo - 1/2 lb. smoked brisket with 2 sides, 1 sauce, and a fountain drink are included. My wife had the 4 rib lunch with 1 side, 1 sauce, and a drink. There are 4 sauces to choose from. I chose the hot & spicy that was thin and mild; my wife chose the "Bama sauce", a white vinegar & salad dressing sauce that was good. I chose the Brussels sprouts hash and warm German potato salad that were both delicious, and my favorite menu items overall! I was surprised to see the brisket in a foil-wrapped packet next to the bun thinking that this method kept the meat hot, but when I opened the packet, the meat was not hot, but nicely smoked. The brisket was unusually cut into pellet- sized pieces that were slightly dry, under seasoned, and undercooked to my liking, and kept falling out of the bun. I would have preferred the traditional sliced brisket sandwich piled high with some topping choices like homemade pickles, hot peppers, etc. On the positive side, my wife's ribs were huge and they even threw in a few burnt ends. I tried one and thought it was also under seasoned and dry. My wife loved her ribs and said it was tender and juicy! The ambiance is quirky and uninviting with a bar behind the checkout and a few tables. There was a paper sign arrow in the back showing that they have a patio, but you have to walk through a storage area and past the restroom to get there. There were 3 or 4 picnic tables and 1 small bar-height table with 2 chairs. We didn't realize until we left that they served wine and beer until we saw a beer sign over the bar. I'm assuming this place is fairly new and they've got some kinks to work out, but if you go, I'd recommend the ribs and sides!

Maybe it is because barbecue is embraced so strongly as a southern tradition that southerners embrace this culinary style with such passion or maybe it is that southern barbecue is simply that good and that incredible taste made it a tradition. The staff here was extremely friendly and outgoing. I went with the pulled pork and I have to say that I was overall impressed with my meal. I also appreciated the no-frills ambiance approach towards the place. There is nothing fancy or pretentious about barbecue and there is no need to sit in some place heavy on atmosphere when enjoying barbecue. Barbecue itself shines as the star of the meal and we don't need atmosphere. This was definitely an overall winner and I would definitely recommend the restaurant. I give it an overall five stars.

The quality has dropped below what I'm willing to pay for. Nothing tastes the same except the Jo sauce. Every single chicken tender they gave the TWO of us was half the size of what they used to be. The jojos were always large, now just the butt end of the tiny potatoes. I don't know why u would buy a businesses good name that had been open for decades and ruin it completely in a very short time because u are cheap. My family won't be back. We paid $20 for a chicken snack, a chicken plate and 1 drink! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!

No fluff, no gimmicks... just straight-up barbecue done right. I ordered the super sampler, which comes with five meats and three sides for $48, and let me tell you... the portion size is insane. This isn't your typical sampler you share between two people. This is easily enough food for four or five people. The pictures honestly don't do it justice. Let's talk about the meats. The brisket was everything you want. Juicy, tender, perfect fat-to-meat ratio, and the bark was excellent. Same with the ribs -- tender but still holding together when you pick them up. No sauce needed at all. The pulled pork... I don't say this lightly... this is the best pulled pork I've ever had. It melts in your mouth and is packed with flavor. It actually made me wonder how good their pulled pork sandwich must be. The sausage surprised me. I usually get tired of sausage quickly, but this one had a unique flavor and was one of the best I've had. The chicken was also tender, juicy, and well seasoned. Now the sides... Cheesy grits were extremely flavorful and easily compete with some of the best I've had. Mac and cheese is simple, homemade, and done right. The green beans were some of the best I've ever had -- not sure what they're doing, but it works. Potato salad was excellent, baked beans were sweet and spot on, and even the Brunswick stew (which I don't usually go for) was solid with a more tomato-forward flavor. Dessert sealed the deal. The banana pudding absolutely lives up to the hype. Every bite has those crushed wafers mixed in, and the texture and flavor are just perfect. One of the best banana puddings I've had anywhere. They also have multiple house sauces (Carolina, Texas-style, Georgia-style), and the Georgia sauce was my favorite. Service was A+. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and helpful, even while the place was packed. And yes, it gets PACKED. I got there right when they opened and there was already a line. They do have extra seating outside, but if you don't get there early, be prepared to wait or take it to go. Parking, though, is actually not an issue. There's parking across the street, some on the side, and a large dirt lot in the back where most people were parking. Even with how busy it gets, there's plenty of space if you know where to look. I honestly can't believe a place this good is tucked away in northwest Georgia. This is one of those true hidden gems... but the locals clearly already know. This ride was 100% worth it. This is easily top two barbecue spots I've had in Georgia... and it might be pushing for that number one spot.
