With such good reviews for BBQ and the non-GMO quality of their meat sourced from local farms, I couldn't wait to try this place. When we drove up, we could smell the hickory smoke and saw the smoker on the sidewalk in front. When we walked in, we were told that menus are on the checkout counter, so I went to grab 2, but before we knew it, the uncle of the owner started reading every item on the menu for an uncomfortably long time. I'm a visual guy so I need to read menus at my own pace. We ordered the lunch combo - 1/2 lb. smoked brisket with 2 sides, 1 sauce, and a fountain drink are included. My wife had the 4 rib lunch with 1 side, 1 sauce, and a drink. There are 4 sauces to choose from. I chose the hot & spicy that was thin and mild; my wife chose the "Bama sauce", a white vinegar & salad dressing sauce that was good. I chose the Brussels sprouts hash and warm German potato salad that were both delicious, and my favorite menu items overall! I was surprised to see the brisket in a foil-wrapped packet next to the bun thinking that this method kept the meat hot, but when I opened the packet, the meat was not hot, but nicely smoked. The brisket was unusually cut into pellet- sized pieces that were slightly dry, under seasoned, and undercooked to my liking, and kept falling out of the bun. I would have preferred the traditional sliced brisket sandwich piled high with some topping choices like homemade pickles, hot peppers, etc. On the positive side, my wife's ribs were huge and they even threw in a few burnt ends. I tried one and thought it was also under seasoned and dry. My wife loved her ribs and said it was tender and juicy! The ambiance is quirky and uninviting with a bar behind the checkout and a few tables. There was a paper sign arrow in the back showing that they have a patio, but you have to walk through a storage area and past the restroom to get there. There were 3 or 4 picnic tables and 1 small bar-height table with 2 chairs. We didn't realize until we left that they served wine and beer until we saw a beer sign over the bar. I'm assuming this place is fairly new and they've got some kinks to work out, but if you go, I'd recommend the ribs and sides! read more

I tried Roadside 'Que in Ft Payne based off a number of positive comments I had read online. I was highly disappointed. First off, the ambiance was fine, it smelled like a BBQ house, the service was beyond excellent. The gentleman who felt the need to discuss the menu rather than just let me read it was comprehensive and friendly. The problem, the food was not what anyone would anticipate from a Southern BBQ house. I should have known better when the nice waiter said "Brussels sprout hash" was a side dish. My wife and I both ordered the BBQ sandwich plate, it came with a sandwich, one side and a drink. The drink was sweet tea and it was great! The side was mac and cheese. It was initially cold so they gave me another that was hot but both of them tasted bad, nasty! I've never had any that tasted worse, anywhere. The BBQ sandwich was just as bad. It was indeed smoked but their smoker must have been too hot because the outside edges of the meat (it was chopped into cubes) was burnt and I mean burned black. The meat was dry cubes of burnt pork that did have a smokey taste. That's the best I can say about it. To be fair (the only reason I gave them two stars) when one of the folks who worked there ask me was everything good, I told him it wasn't what I expected and told him what I thought. Within two minutes a different man came over and told me our meal was free. I told him that I planned on eating my sandwich as I expected to pay and I didn't expect anything free. I ate my sandwich (it was $10 ala carte on the menu) even though it wasn't good I was hungry, I spit out the nasty mac and cheese, my wife refused to eat any of it. read more

Run don't walk to this cute little BBQ spot. Holy moly it was good. We sampled the BBQ Mac & cheese, Bbq salad, burger, and Brussels sprouts. The salad was really impressive with different mixed greens, and the white sauce was delicious. Really enjoyed the Brussels sprouts too. Everything was well prepared and very good flavor! Got to try this place out last weekend while in Fort Payne. It's got pretty solid bbq! As the name suggests, it's more or less Roadside - we were driving along the main drag with Google maps open when suddenly we were instructed to turn right into our destination. We saw the smoker out front and knew we were in the right place! Upon entering, we were greeted by a very friendly older gentleman who asked us if it was our first time. We confirmed that it was and he gave us a helpful, in-depth explanation of all their offerings, as well as their philosophy on locally grown ingredients. Fiancé got ribs, I got a pulled pork sandwich with macaroni and cheese, fiancé's sister got the mac and cheese meal with pulled pork on top, and her husband also got the pulled pork sandwich meal with slaw, if I remember correctly. Fiancé and I also split a side of the green chili, as neither of us had ever had it before and wanted to try. Overall, the bbq was good. My dining companions liked it more than me, but I'm a good bit pickier than they are when it comes to 'que. The pulled pork I would describe as closer to chunked pork, which is not my preference. The pieces were large, square shaped, and piled upon the sandwich bun. The meat itself was tender and flavorful, though the bun didn't stand up to it and the sauce super well so I wound up eating it with a fork. Fiancé and his family all stated they were very happy with their meals. I tried a bite of his ribs and found them flavorful albeit a little chewy. The sweet and tangy bbq had a decent flavor but was a little thin for my tastes. Neither of us were super fond of the green chili, but I suspect it was more just not to our palates rather than there being anything wrong with the dish. It's unique, full of meat and veggies, very thick with a friendly kick. I'd be interested to know what people more familiar with the dish think of this version. To me, the best thing by far was the macaroni and cheese. Perfectly cooked noodles, creamy, complex cheese sauce, and a perfectly sized portion with some grated cheese on top to add texture. If I visited again, I would absolutely reorder that! read more

PARKING - Very few spots in front and more to the side. ATMOSPHERE - The place does not give off the normal BBQ vibe with the décor but not a deal breaker. It was cool to see things for the kids to do and I appreciate anything offered to keep them off phones. STAFF - The gentleman working the counter was amazing. It seemed he really loved his job and was very passionate about the menu. Remembered me by name as I was finishing up my meal and checked on me a few times. He handled the rush of people that came in and did not seem stressed nor rushed me at any point while ordering. Honestly I feel he could teach others in the restaurant business these skills. FOOD - The food was honestly just ok. I liked the burger. It had good flavor and was quality meat. The mac and cheese was decent but I didn't feel was worth $4.50. I was also sad to find out the 2 ribs that I ordered to go were super small for $3 each and did not seem to be the same size as other pictures I have seen online. I drove an hour to try this place and wanted to bring wings home to my son for dinner. I ordered 20 to go and they were brought out to me on a tray wrapped in foil. I asked for a box for travel and was brought a brown paper bag. They were pretty busy so didn't want to bother them. I also was excited to try the white sauce on the wings and thought when ordering to go it would have been included as they asked, but instead on the tray was a squeeze bottle of white sauce. Would have been nice to have cups somewhere to for sauce to take with the to go order. It could have been a mix up not knowing they were to go when brought out as everything comes in foil as seen in the other pictures. The wings were smoked and tasted ok. No dry rub or seasoning just plain smoked. They didn't have wings on the menu for the day so I really appreciate they went out of their way to make them for me. PRICE - The price for the burger seemed good but I thought the price for the side and single ribs were a bit high. They do use premium meat from Creekstone Farms and Springer MTN Chicken so its worth paying the extra. It's important to support local restaurants. THE GOOD - The customer service from the guy at the counter was top notch - Love the drink station and paper towels at the table - The menu looked good and wouldn't mind trying other options - Went out of their way to make the wings for me NOT SO GOOD -My to go order was pretty sad, not boxed and leaked grease thru the paper bag and foil. Wish they had to go sauces. -Small ribs. Overall if I lived local I would love to try again as it wasn't horrible and the wings I bet would taste better with the sauce and eaten fresh in the restaurant. I would probably have given a 3 star but the customer service was great, appreciated the extra effort they gave, the large menu and top notch meat they order. Upon entering, we were greeted & asked if we'd been there before. The nice man gave us a rundown on the day's special & what were the local favs. We opted for the day's special of a philly sandwich. The bread was amazing & the bbq chicken (hubby had the brisket) had amazing flavor, I wished I had ordered their meat naked. My hubby loves brussel sprouts but didn't care for the hash. I added it to my sauce from the baked beans & it was tasty. I wish they had some crispy fries as a side, but overall the customer service & the flavor of the bbq were outstanding. Def will come back if in the area. I love that they put kid's coloring book pages on the wall!! Support local! This guy understands the restaurant business is tough these days & gives great customer service with good bbq at a great price. I wanna try the ribs next time! read more

Good bar-b-que l have it at least once a month. The potato salad is German style a bit tangy compliments the pork quite well.

First thing I noticed when I walked in was the smell, it was amazingly delicious. The guy that took my order was super nice and accommodating. Even though they didn't have a sampler plate he made it happen for me. The meat did not disappoint but for me the sides lacked that traditional taste but to each his own. I hate leaving bad reviews on anyone but the food we had was awful. The sauce had no flavor and Mac n cheese noodles was not done enough they was chewy. The baked beans had no brown sugar what so ever. I wish I would have just told the guy that but I just didn't have the heart. You would never believe how good the food would be looking at the outside. Don't judge a book by its cover. We had gone up to Mentone for the first time, since Covid, and were so sad to see many businesses did not survive. We got on Yelp and found Roadside 'Que in Ft Payne and gave it a shot. I'm glad we did. My wife and I both had brisket sandwiches. The brisket was incredible. I'm a KCBS judge (and a Texan) so I've had tons of brisket - this was great! Sides were very good too. I had the mac-n-cheese, which was done just right. Wife had the German potato salad which was incredible!
