I really wanted to try a new salon and finally took the leap. I called Salon 253 and scheduled an appointment. I was introduced to Carrie, and she was such a breath of fresh air. We talked and laughed the whole time, and she really listened to what I wanted for my hair color and cut. I'm so happy with how my hair turned out -- I've gotten so many compliments! They even offered me a glass of wine and took my picture after she finished -- such a nice touch. I've been going to Salon 253 since they opened on 253 Market Street and I am still a loyal customer until now. Their new location is now on Wells Street. Parking is limited so I tend to park at the Baseball field nearby and walk down to their location. They have never disappointed with their selection of Master & Senior Stylists to their Junior/Student Stylists trained in house. Not to mention, it's a beautiful salon with freshly cut tropical flowers all over and a mod and boho vibe that I esthetically love! They always ask me if I want a drink too whether it's sparkling water, coffee or a Mimosa. I've supported both Senior and Junior Stylists alike. I do try if possible to stick to the Junior Stylists for a more affordable option but of course they all become Senior Stylists eventually. But I do believe the Junior Stylists can be 50% off the Master or Senior Stylists. Sometimes they have promos that include a Free Haircut on my Vagaro app. Today I got a Full Balayage and Haircut. I asked for more Ash Blonde tones since my top was already showing my dark roots. I also wanted French/Curtain bangs and some face framing layers for my cut. After the foil painting that took about 1-2 hours, I was taken to the Shampoo and Conditioning station which included a relaxing scalp massage. I had Toner applied twice to bring the color I wanted to life. Along with my haircut, the whole process lasted maybe 4 1/2 hours so if you do a Full Balayage, make sure you eat before you get started and prepare to have a salon day! Downside is that Good Hair isn't cheap by any means plus this is Maui. I paid $375 (not including the 20% tip) for the Balayage and Haircut. I believe my Stylist Shayla is now a Senior Stylist but I've seen many of the talented Stylists over the years, Ace, Manelle, Sara, Chloe and Shayla. If you're looking for amazing, feel beautiful and confident hair, make sure you save up and go to Salon 253! What I appreciate is that they take special detailed care to make sure your hair cut and color is what you're looking for and the ladies are all so friendly and sweet too. read more

This was my first time at Salon 253.. I went there on Saturday Afternoon and they were busy.. Andie washed my hair which felt amazing that I wanted to fall asleep as she was giving me a head massage. That was great I didn't want to get off the chair. Then she blew dried my hair. Then Kiana finished it she flat ironed it as I wanted. I told her to make it flat to my head and she did just that. I left happy. The experience I had with Salon 253 was great. Their customer service is great fun the time got walk in to you leave. The price i paid for a wash, blow dry, and flat iron was reasonable. I'll be back to try something else. Come here if you're looking to get your hair made up or you need some glam. read more

Came in to have some eye makeup done with false eyelashes for a special event. I still cannot figure out how to put on fake lashes on my own and my eye makeup consists of one look for every occasion haha so I definitely needed an expert. Kim was super sweet and did a great job. I vaguely gave her ideas of the look I was going for and she executed it extremely well. This was the first time i was actually HAPPY with my makeup. Shadow wasn't too dark/dramatic and eyebrows weren't heavily drawn in as well. It was subtle chic and perfect for a beach event. Yesterday was my first time at Salon 253 and I have nothing but amazing things to say about this place. From booking the appointment to paying for my service, everything was spectacular and easy! I went in to see Bella to get a cut and toner. My other half went to see Chloe for a wash and scalp detox. I had a little bit of trouble booking online but when I called the salon, everyone was super friendly and really accommodating. Got my hair did earlier this year and chopped off A LOT of inches. Been meaning to get it done for many moons and was happy I found Salon 253. I was looking for a centrally located salon that was open a bit later so that I could make it after my work day. I was able to schedule with Jr. Stylist, Whitney, and I showed her some photos of the length and look I was going for. Throughout the whole process she continually checked in with me to see if it was the right length, if I wanted more inches cut, more layers, etc. When I made requests for more layers or a shorter cut, she happily obliged. Although next time, I think I'll ask for even more layers. Once the cut was done, she asked if I wanted to style it straight or curled. I usually just straighten my hair, but she was delighted when I said what the hell, just curl it. She took her time curling each strand and the end result was this lovely beachy wave curl! Wish I took better notes so that I could replicate it, but I guess I'll have to leave that to the pros. Haha. Overall, I was happy with the end results and having short hair again felt amazing. I am due for another cut and will definitely look to Salon 253 again for another appointment. This salon is a hidden gem. If you're not familiar with the area, you might not even realize there's a salon here. As a new customer, I immediately felt the welcoming vibe of the place. Upon entering, the front assistant greeted me with a big smile. The salon is clean and more spacious than I expected, so I never felt cramped. It has a well-designed, modern atmosphere. The hairstylists are clearly experienced, as evidenced by the happy and satisfied clients I saw around me. I had an appointment with April for a haircut. You guys, don't sleep on Salon 253! I love that everyone here is super welcoming and friendly. They just exude such a fun yet chill vibe. I recently came in for an appointment with Naomi and you wouldn't know that she's a junior stylist. Sis slayed and totally understood the assignment! I can't say enough good things about the job well done. She blended in partial highlights and matched it to my grown out highlights and gave a great layered cut like I asked. I didn't catch their names but there were two stylists that offered tips and were super helpful and encouraging. I love to see when others like to see each other win! Always leave here satisfied. This was my first visit since covid. An I felt very safe. They send you a covid questioner that needs to be filled out that day, but before your appointment. You text them when you get there and wait in car till they call you. You have to sanitize your hands and do a touch less temperature check. And or course everyone has their mask on the whole time. Uncomfortably, I had to leave this salon mid-way through a blow-out service. The Junior stylist's (Madison's) underarm pit odor was way too unbearable. I do respect the "natural scent" culture -- but in a salon setting, I'll take a hard pass. I simply didn't want to spend my Saturday afternoon having to endure the stank much longer. I left with conditioner in my hair and paid for the service: $36.48 for 10 minutes of armpit stank. In my opinion, good hygiene is polite. Since this initial review was posted on Vagaro -- the owner refunded the service. I gladly deleted the Vagaro review, was willing to move forward with my regular person and pretend nothing even happened. Lo and behold, then-after my future weekly bookings with this salon was "denied." Hahahaha Also, I was told to book directly with the owner in the future, banning me from making on-line appointments. So, essentially the owner "apologized" but then 86'ed me. Hahahaha Salon253 is NOT "the best salon on Maui" -- Seriously, take a closer sniff YELPERS. read more

Thought it was necessary to add another review because I am in love with my lashes! First off, Miki was nice enough to come in 30 minutes earlier for me as I had a back to back appointment for my hair right after. By the time this appointment came around, I'd already had my volume lashes done somewhere else for 4 weeks before with a 2 week fill. So I was coming in 2 weeks after that fill with my right side pretty much bald as that same thing happened the first time also. So let me explain my weird eyelid situation, I have one single & one double eyelid so if the exact same length/curl length is done to both sides, it doesn't look even. Which is what happened at the previous place. One side looked like it had extensions & the other looked nornal. I explained that to Miki & she decided to do a whole new set on me, making one side longer & curlier even it out. I'm currently almost 3 weeks out since I got them done & they are still decently full, a bunch have fallen out but it's not bald, so I'm happy. She was able to do a whole new set of volume lashes within the time of a fill. This girl knows how to work her magic & does it well. I opened my eyes to full even lashes! Love love love! I really love this northern Maui hair salon. Easy to make an appointment and the appointment system does a good job of keeping track of your appointment, confirming it on both sides and reminding you of when it's coming up. It just so happens that I brought a new cut & color to them that day. A bit complicated, as they had to color an old blonde to a dark, and get that to be consistent all over. They also had a complicated cut, going from medium-length straight hair to a very trendy cut. Charles was my Hair Specialist. He did great and he was careful every step of the way. The owner also stepped in and provided assistance/guidance, which made me feel like I was in good hands. The owner also talked to me a fair amount of time prior to Charles starting the process- just to make sure that all 3 of us were completely on board and had a meeting of the minds. Overall, I was very, very happy to be able to come home from Maui with a completely new look and, also, to feel that my hair was in so much better shape. Thank you! read more

I am very disappointed to learn that this business has gone as far as threatening, bullying and intimidating me to remove my factual review. I will say this again, my review is NOT based on their actual hair and make up services solely based on their customer service. I am sure that the person that has been communicating with me is probably not the owner of this business but I have attached a screenshot of the email thread of one of the artists who has been exchanging emails with me to show you all how their matters are handled and addressed. I would imagine that this is how they would also address any issues or concerns you might have with their actual services in hair and makeup. I would have been more than happy to update my review after they have corrected the misinformation on their website but since they have decided to essentially threaten to blacklist me unless I removed my review , I will not be taking my honest review down but giving potential clients additional information on this mistreatment I received. Salon 253 provided skill and hair mastery equal to that of the Beverly Wilshire's hair salon in Beverly Hills, California (one of the tops of my life) - yet everyone at Salon 253 was as kind as if we were in the southern states! I had searched Yelp for best hair salon in Maui; Salon 253 had the best of reviews except for one which I did not take into consideration because it was from a critic who had never even visited the Salon! (It seems that individual was complaining about services they could not receive during Covid! Where is compassion for all the small businesses who struggled to survive throughout a global pandemic?) I read the response from the owner which was so kind, heartfelt and moving I knew Salon 253 was the one for me-- although it was an hour away from our stay! My appointment was with Karisa. To say a hair stylist is gifted is an UNDERSTATEMENT while describing Karisa, a true hair artist. (I found out she had worked in California as well and was currently instructing new stylists). I arrived over 30 minutes early but was still warmly welcomed by Jessica. She offered me a freshly made Cappuccino. Since the place was also as spotless as a chef's kitchen, I took her up on the offer. (It was delicious. And what an amazing first impression!) Karisa took the time to listen to my desires, made suggestions as if I would be coming every four weeks although it will be another year before I return. My highlights and root touch up were as natural as a kiss from the sun. My hubby showed up early to pick me up. The owner Adiel, welcomed him and offered him a beverage or cappuccino while he waited. However, he preferred beaming while gazing at my beautiful, new hair style--it was edgy and youthful! Unfortunately, we will be returning home in two days, but luckily, I will take a part of Maui back with me. For Karisa, who carefully cut each strand of my hair with a love filled aloha spirit, gave my hair life, shine, movement and beauty, much like the life, shine and movement of Maui waves playing tag upon a beautiful shoreline. Ever since I came in contact with Lauren, she made me feel super confident in who I was choosing for my hair and makeup. Everything was super smooth and any questions were answered quickly. It had been since the beginning of Covid that I had my hair cut. Over the 8+ months, my medium-length layered cut had become too long and unmanageable. So, it was a bad hair day every day. I wore a ponytail and hat all summer. Last week, I made my first appointment at Salon 253 with Petra. Firstly, I must give them a bravo on safety. The salon had all the procedures in place such as completing a Covid survey prior, waiting in the car until appointment time, wearing masks for everyone, and closing every other chair. Secondly, I will give Petra a standing ovation for my perfectly clean, layered cut. In spite of having fine hair, I left with more volume. Salon 253 is awesome. I love my haircut. I'm having hair fall since early this year and because i just got here in Maui I'm kinda anxious going to the salon. I have history of alopecia and it's not easy to trust stylist for my hair. But Sara did a good job. I showed her how i want my hair and she did it way more than i expected. Over all i love my hair and my stylist was so amazing. I just have concern in there system because when i paid for my service, couple hours later its showed on my bank account that they charged me 3x. I called them but they told that i gotta wait till tomorrow if they really charged me 3x. I'm sad on this part but i still love Sara just simply because she make me look younger read more
