Jon did a great job cutting my hair, and I will definitely come back again. I always avoid getting a hair cut with the common price of $100 for a cut, almost $200 for dye and cut! I'm grateful for Salon Fifty Six's appointment availability and their hairstyling and cutting skills at such a great price. I've been frequenting a different stylist for about eight years, but I waited too long to make the appointment with said stylist. DONT COME HERE UNLESS YOU LIKE PEOPLE PLAYING WITH YOUR HAIR!!!!!! Are these professionals or are they just playing with your hair and make money? Went to this salon two times, both times were HORRENDOUS. Although not the same stylist(fortunately/unfortunately). First time was a few years back, I asked this stylist or some person with scissors, for long layers and face framing layer, she cuts my hair in layers I'll give you that, but the face framing was terrible! thick chunks of my hair shorten above my chin. Wtfff?! Okay I don't like their work so I don't go back, until a few weeks ago, a friend suggested to me their salon again since they have new employees there and they've gotten their haircut by said new employer. Her haircut is so cute so I'm like alright I'll go, I reserve and go to the new employee. I showed the new employee pictures of what I want, it's pretty clear It's pixie cut, she doesn't suggest or say anything about it, she's basically giving a green light and I'm putting my trust on this chick. Ok she washes my hair and we get to cutting, I never had my hair super short, like ever, so I'm trying to trust the process of it. Until the end she dries my hair and then tells me she can't achieve the cut I wanted RIGHT AFTER CUTTING MY HAIR. Why? Because I have too much a hair?? like what?? You're telling me this AFTER?? Like ok, I have too much hair why didn't you say anything throughout the cut?? It's a bit short, above my shoulders but NOT pixie cut type of short. I told her to cut a bit more and there still wasn't much of a difference. At that point I didn't want her to touch anything else, it's already messed up. I've been to other salons, where they communicate BEFORE the cut, suggested different alternatives to certain styles BEFORE OR DURING cutting... she just okayed to my suggestion/photos I showed THEN communicated AFTER CUTTING IT. Oscar gave me the worst haircut I've ever had in my life and I've been to over 15 hair stylists. I asked for a trim and everything was blunt cut, no point cutting or softness or texture added to the hair. I asked for side swept bangs and he grabbed the most humongous chunk of the top of my head and just chopped them straight they are so chunky and thick at the ends won't even lay softly to the side because he cut them like how a 4 year old would. Now half of the top of my head is these ugly thick bangs that I never wanted. He didn't even do face framing layers which every other stylist has done for me despite me asking . he just simply replied the layers are there. He has absolutely no skill. read more

Came here with a Groupon for a full highlight and cut. Was the first appointment and John was the only one here. I told him what I wanted and unfortunately he didn't speak English so trying to tell him what I wanted was extremely hard. Eventually the receptionist came in and translated for me. I showed him a picture and he went to work. John was very quick, typically it takes about 2.5 or more hours to do my long hair but he got me in and out in a little under 2 hours. I absolutely love my hair, its exactly what I wanted and looks identical to the picture I showed him. This place is a little dated looking and definitely does not have the bells and whistles a more upscale salon has, that being said, the prices are great and so is the service. I would much rather go to a simple salon with great prices that does my hair well then somewhere that serves champagne, charges triple and screws it up. I went last week for a cut and blow dry. It was a lot cheaper than what I usually pay at other salons and I was able to schedule it online for that day. I felt bad that I couldn't give tips since they didn't take card tips and I forgot cash. I didn't know until after I got there but that's my own fault. I purchased groupon highlights & haircut. I'm happy with the highlights, however my haircut is horrible. It is uneven in the front and not sure how to explain the back?Umm disaster? See pictures. I had a very long hair and I wanted a long bob. Well, from the back it looks like I cut my own hair. I scheduled a haircut appointment else where to get it fixed. Will not go there again. I love going here, I am able to show them a picture of what I want and tell them what I want different from the picture, then they start working. There is a language barrier between me and them but they still do a great job and the owner and some other employees are always able to relay what I want. I am so bummed. I haven't had such a bad haircut since I was 12. I showed a picture of the color that I wanted and asked to keep the length. Instead of dark blonde the color is just short of black and my hair is above the collar. I pulled into my parking lot and my neighbor said "what happened?" I just scrubbed my hairline to remove the dye on my skin. I'll wear hats for the next I don't know how many weeks and Vo5 to lighten the color. Oh wait one more! Overall disappointed with customer service. I originally came here because I had purchased the groupon for partial highlights, cut, deep condition, and blow-dry. I liked the color I ended up with but was not happy with the cut. The person working on me did not understand any english and when trying to explain what you want I feel like thats kind of important lol. I asked for layers only in the front and they ended up being in the back as well, now I have two characteristic chunks of length whenever I wear my hair in a pony (which is everyday because I'm in healthcare). The owner told me that the blowdry would be extra and not included in my groupon ($66.50) because my hair is too long. Granted, I do have long hair (not down to my butt or anything) and have been charged extra for color because they need to mix more, but no one has EVER charged me extra for a blow dry. It's just not a good feeling especially when you're a new customer. Today I came back 2 months later because I needed and touch up with some toner to lighten up my roots and correct my brassiness. I called ahead of time and was told it would be $45. I said great, I'll see you later. When I arrive, they try to tell me toner wouldn't lighten my hair and I would need to have it colored. This is not true because 1) thats how I've been getting my hair done in between highlights for years and 2) they put toner on me last time and the color was great. (I had a feeling they were just trying to upcharge me, but I don't like damaging my hair as badly if I don't have to.) I specifically said I don't want to color my hair and to just place the toner and they agreed to do it. My hair lightened just like I knew it would and I went to check out. The owner told me it would be $50. I knew this was going to happen lol. I told him the lady on the phone told me $45 and he started defending himself by saying that "oh we put it on your roots and your ends, and its $45 just for the roots and we put color in as well". I immediately called him out because there was no way I got color since 1) you could see all my gray hairs still and 2) I specifically said JUST TONER. What terrible customer service. He could tell his trick wasn't going to work so he ended up giving me the $45 price but jeeze. Not to mention the fact that my hair dresser didn't speak english again and after asking me if I wanted anything to drink and I replied with green tea please, she left and never brought it out. I let the overcharge slide the first time but after a second time, its safe to say i won't be coming back. read more

Not only was my hair damaged due to coloring and Jon fixed it and got it to be the color that is so hard to get for my Spanish black hair, but he is gave it a great layered cut and style. When I lived in the area, I was going to Adrianna at this salon for many months. She knows her way around using both hair clippers and scissors, which is hard to say the same for many barbers. She always gave me good cuts, and she knows style. The price for a haircut is pretty competitive for Westchester. Be aware that this salon is predominantly Spanish-speaking. Most of their clientele are Spanish speakers, and not every stylist here speaks English. Adrianna speaks English, so I had no issues there with not knowing Spanish. Oscar, the owner of Salon 56 gave me a great basic haircut with some trimming and layers (my hair is long and brown) and some beautiful partial blonde highlights. Wow! They even look lovely after my second shampoo at home without blowdrying my hair. Speaking of blowouts, Oscar's was amazing, and I wish I had been going out that night. I'm very picky with the basic blow dry: I like it straight with a little volume and bounce. Oscar made me look like a movie star! Plus, for now, his blow out prices are reasonable. I drove home in tears. I bought a Groupon deal and this is the last time I will use Groupon for my hair. Although every one was very nice, I drove home in tears. Jon did my foils and haircut. He didn't speak English so his co worker interpreted what I asked for. I got partial highlights and a haircut. Well, my hair was darker and had a tint of green when I left and my haircut after showing him 2 pictures was so far from what I asked for. It was so short and I had a mullitt in the back. I will have to borrow money to try and fix it but I don't think I can. I'll have to wear a hat for a few months I'm so embarrassed. I work so hard for my money and I don't know what I'm going to do. Oscar is great! Clean salon. This is a Spanish-speaking salon and Oscar is honestly the only one who speaks pretty good English. With that said, he is a very busy person because he is the one who answers the phones and books the appointments, which in turn; he's not dedicating all of his time to you and your hair. I went there initially because of a Groupon and the services fit the price. I went there a few times after and he honored the price I paid before. I asked for layers *only*, and the person gave me an angle. They're two different things. I'm not sure if they all have their licenses since this is such a simple request. If your looking for a professional salon- this is not the place. I am a 30 year old female and I stopped in for a trim- I should have known by the looks of the place that it was going to be horrible. But 'never judge a book by its cover right? WRONG. It is a 'barber shop' setting with loud music and I was completely ignored when I walked in although I had an appointment.... this should have been my cue to leave! The man who cut my hair acted like he never cut a woman's hair before- Very unprofessional and horrible service.There was 5 or more stylists at the shop- two sitting and doing NOTHING so what they should have done is assigned someone to me that knew how to cut a woman hair...especially when they saw I was close to tears when my stylist cut a huge chunk out of the side of my hair!!??! He claimed was 'layers' WHICH i never asked for. Finally one barber acknowledged the huge screw up and yelled at the inexperienced idiot working on my hair.
