I have been searching for a salon and stylist that truly cares about the health of your hair and who knows how to cut hair properly. Most salons CANNOT cut hair professionally even though they charge you for said "professional cut." Angela will give you an outstanding cut. I firmly believe that my hair grew faster and healthier because of it. My hair was so damaged, tangled and breaking off from hormones and stress. Angela was so sweet and extremely informative about hair health and products. She has a pleasant and gentle energy that transfers to how she handles the service that you're getting. She is honest and gives you all the information regarding your hair as well as how to take care of it "after" the appointment. Every single time I go to Angela my hair looks and feels so healthy, shiny and gorgeous. My scalp feels clean and my my hair has so much body. My style lasts for 7 to 10 days guaranteed when I use a silk bonnet and minimal product. Angela is the best!! My nails had grown out and were raggedy. I took off the SNS to reveal overdrilled, thin nails with hangnails here and there. so there was no way I was gonna attempt to wash and style my hair with those claws. I'd be ripping out strands. I could've used gloves but I needed to use my fingers to really massage my scalp due to a skin condition. I needed a professional. I had the StyleSeat app on my phone from way back in the day when I got by hair relaxed but my hairstylist moved to the other side of town so it was no longer convenient for me to go to her. That's when I found this place. I was able to make an appointment the same day and a few hours before. When I got there the owner Angella had her assistant cleanse my hair and treat my scalp with a Jamaican Black Castor Oil blend with felt soooo amazing. What I wasn't expecting was to be sat under a hair steamer. I'd never had that done before but I'm sure my hair needed it. Angella took over from there. She blew my hair dry and flat ironed it. Throughout the process she talked to me about what's working for me and what's not as far as styling. She really liked how soft my hair was, like a baby she said hahaha. I even broke down and had her chop off all my dead ends as they were going to continue to break off and snag. She styled it great but due to how my hair is, I knew it wouldn't stay that way for long. I absolutely LOVE salon Thairapy Jax. I did the "big chop" many years ago, going from a relaxer to natural hair, not understanding that natural didn't mean less maintenance. My natural hair was a lot for me to handle. When the cute pixie cut became popular I wanted to see if it could be done on natural, pressed hair. I went to a well known salon in Jax. The stylist assured me I could get it, but obviously underestimated the thickness and coarseness of my hair because the cut was horrible. I looked up salons on StyleSeat and saw some reviews for Angella. I went in and thank goodness she was able to fix the cut. I transitioned over to Stephen who continued to style my hair, giving me the pixie on pressed, natural hair that you see in the pics. The cut really showed off my salt and pepper tresses in the best way. The only problem I had was that I sweat ALOT. My presses would not last. I also wasn't the best at maintaining short hair LOL‍ When I decided to relax my hair and let it grow, I stopped going to Salon Thairpy (big mistake!) and wore a weave for a year. My hair grew some, but because I sweat in my head and the tension on my edges from the install, it was not a long term option for me. Covid struck! I decided to ditch the weave and I came back to salon Thairpy Jax where my hair had always been lovingly maintained. I was warmly welcomed back. Stephen and I discussed my hair goals. 1. straight, relaxed hair which has always held up to my sweating 2. color the grays because it was making me look older 3. achieve long hair growth similar to the weave He put together a plan to systematically give me all of those things, and as you can see, it's working. My hair is healthy and past my shoulders! I love this salon and Stephen is the absolute best. They give it to you straight too. If you want something they know will not work with your hair type, pattern or color, they will let you know. They are constantly taking classes to learn new hair styling techniques and offer a variety of styling methods for all types of hair. I highly recommend them. If you're looking for a salon that does all types of hair and offers all variety of techniques RUN don't walk to Salon Thairapy Jax where they cultivate and grow strong, healthy hair. After keeping loc extensions in my hair for too long (my own lack of education) I had a terrible matted and tangled mess. I was desperate for help, called Angella, and she was able to make time to help me the next day. Angella was incredibly gracious as she took the time to detangle and treat my hair. I went in completely ready to chop it all off, but she was able to save my length and I was truly impressed! She is knowledgeable and was able to answer my questions regarding moving forward with my natural hair journey. I am so so thankful I found her salon and will definitely be returning! Life changing. About 5 months ago, Angela blessed me with the Japanese hair straightening treatment and nothing will ever be the same. I have naturally hellish/frizzy/curly hair that has plagued me since birth; but it has finally been tamed. I've truly saved HOURS weekly not having to fight with my hair. I waited this long to write this review to see the longevity of the treatment/to see if it eventually damages your hair--it doesn't. For those wondering about the pricing; before tipping, my total was $800. My only complaint is that it was $200 more than I was originally quoted. Granted, I added a trim ($20 via her online pricing) and shampoo/conditioner. I think $180 for shampoo/conditioner is pretty unreasonable though. But I digress. This woman is absolutely disrespectful and rude! She treats her employees like rag dolls. She can surely put you down when doing your hair. I asked if I can go ginger and did a consultation! She told me beforehand to go ahead and blowout my hair so that it will be easier to manage since I have curly hair(like who does that).Once it was time for my appointment she later complained that my hair was too much and complained how she had to go Sally's to get more products. So I'm sitting in the chair while she leaves to go to Sally's beauty store for more products. I was thinking about leaving with all of the warning signs but I decided to give her a chance. Once she was in the middle of doing my hair she than realized that my hair didn't actually need all that product she complained about. She said my hair was so deceiving! That was such an insult. She begged to put products in my hair but at that point I was done. She used no bleach bc she was afraid of my hair wouldn't take it well . Terrible experience. Rude from that start of the conversation about my hair history to me asking about her upcoming availability. She laughed in my face when I asked if she had anything within the upcoming holiday week as she had just created a blonde streak in the middle of my head that would need to be fixed. I've never seen someone do a test strand in the middle of someone's head regardless of what you're trying to find. Despite her website saying she had availability, she informed me that I wouldn't be getting an appointment that week. After this experience I wasn't going to move forward with her doing my hair anyways but now I need to find a solution to the random patch of blonde she left in the middle of my hair. I wanted to try Salon Thairapy after reading such great reviews. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed my experience.... First of all, The man who did my hair never really welcomed me to the salon, asked how I was doing, or gave any of the usual professional pleasantries that I expect when entering a salon. I tried to start some conversation with him, telling him it was my first time here and asking him his name- but to no avail- he didn't warm up at all. So Michael had me sit in the shampoo chair, and began to unravel my pigtail braids. He then told me my ends looked horrible and were really really terrible. I was stunned, I knew I needed a trim, but he was very rude about it and spoke in a tone of disgust. I could see if he'd have said "I see your ends are a little thin, I think it would be great if you got a trim today", or "Will you be getting a trim today? Your hair is very thick, but I can see a few split ends that I'd like to take care of for you." Then a great follow up question would've been, "I see your hair is quite long, what are your length goals now?.... how much are you comfortable with me cutting today?" But no. This guy has zero charm, zero bedside manners, and made me feel insulted and put down. Then he shoved a comb in my hand. I was confused, wondering if he was giving me the comb to hold- but found that odd. Then he said he wanted me to comb my hair out. Now for me- if I want to comb my own hair, I'll stay home and do it myself. The whole reason I go to have my hair done is to not have to do any work. If I'm paying to have my hair done, I don't expect to lift a finger. Furthermore, as any natural knows, you DO NOT comb your hair when dry, as it tends to cause unnecessary breakage. I tried explaining this, but he didn't seem to care. So I proceeded to detangle my hair as gently as possible (thankfully my hair had already been detangled in the shower a few days prior). Next, he began to shampoo. Now, when I go to the salon, I expect to be shampooed like a lady who's being pampered. But instead I felt like I was being handled like a Retriever at my nearest Pet's Mart- he was way too rough and water was splashing all over my face. As he began to blow dry and flat iron my hair I could hear my hair strands breaking as he ripped the comb through it. To make matters worse I wasn't pleased with the flat iron job. He seemed to use the chase method, but stopped short or really making sure my ends were smoothed out and so My ends were left frizzy and poofy. I don't believe this was a result of my needing a trim because as you can see from the pictures, I was later able to get my ends sleek at home just fine before getting them trimmed. And so at this point, seeing how bad the flat iron job was, No way I was trusting him to trim my hair! Despite the fact that I needed a trim, this was the worst flat iron job I've ever seen. And if he couldn't flat iron, I wasn't confident he could cut. I have included before and after pics to show how it looked when I left the shop, and then how it looked when I used my CHI flatiron (2 passes) later at home, and then had a trim (no- I didn't get caught in a rain storm on the way home, this is exactly how it looked at the shop). I don't mind paying a premium for a good service, but if I pay good money- I shouldn't have to then go home and "fix" what was done to my hair. I'm not sure why my hair didn't turn out.... Perhaps the product used was more alkaline than my hair likes?, perhaps I needed more time under the dryer with the deep conditioner? Perhaps my hair takes to roller setting better than blow drying? Who knows. All I know is- I've never left a beauty shop with my hair looking this way. As I went to leave and pay, Angela said she was wondering what I was doing that was making my ends look so terrible. She said that my hair would be very unattractive if I wore it down in its current state! I was so stunned at the rudeness, and I knew that the $50 bill I had in my purse for a tip would be walking out the door with me. I knew I needed a trim, but I didn't feel completely comfortable with it being done.....nonetheless that's no reason to make your customer feel bad and insulted. A woman goes to a salon to feel pampered, not insulted. I don't think I will return here as a result of my experience with the stylist I had. If I had Angela, maybe my results would've been different-who knows. But after the comments I got from her, I won't retry to find out. Overall I'm sure Angela is a trained professional with great expertise in her craft (from what I witnessed it looks like she does color technique well). However I would've liked to have been spoken to in a manner that didn't leave me feeling insulted. My search for a new salon continues. read more

I've been natural for over 10 years and I've been very frustrated with it. I called, spoke to Angela, and explained that I wanted to relax my hair. She suggested for me to do a consult first. When I got to salon I explained what I have been doing with my hair and my goal. After Angela examined my hair, she recommended for me not to get a relaxer since I would be washing my hair frequently and that would not go well with the relaxer. She asked if she could do my hair. Her process was very simple and my hair looks fabulous. I have consistent curls and movement. My curls did not shrink all the way up and is touching my shoulders after the wash. Angella is incredible! I was very hesitant to have Japanese hair straightening done because I've had my hair "permanently straightened" at another salon in the past that did not do anything for my hair except damage it. I am SO happy I decided to trust Angella to do this treatment because my hair could not have turned out better. Before, my hair was unmanageable and a hassle to deal with on a daily basis. I would spend hours straightening it with a flat iron only to walk outside and have it frizz up instantly. I've been coming to Angela for years and she is nothing short of a professional. I always leave with my hair feeling moisturized and silky straight which is hard because I am natural and struggle constantly with my hair. But still seemed overpriced considering my hair is not coarse, especially when wet, yet I must have been charged an extra "detangling" fee because the price advertised was less than what I actually paid. I've been going to this salon since September last year and Angela is an angel. I had a very hard time finding a skilled hairstylist that wouldn't do natural hair begrudgingly or charge outrageous amounts. I went to a top hair salon in JAX for ethnic hair and it felt very cold and transactional to me. Angela is a great hairstylist because she builds a relationship with her clients. She also does consultations to assess what a client is trying to get done and if it will work or not. It's imperative to me that practitioners in the beauty field know when to say no and not green light everything because it benefits their pocket. I waited months to go blonde because she made sure my hair was strong enjoying to take being bleached. I previously had black and red hair. She is also very engaged with upcoming trends and is taking classes to sharpen her skills. I believe that if you can do ethnic hair really well you can so any type of hair and she does. When I got a wash they were really rough with it and they were also very rough when brushing my hair. Literally yanking my hair causing pain and hair breaking. Yet, the criticize my hair's health? You would think they you be more gentle with it. Also, when I got my Japanese straightening treatment I saw I was losing hair from the root and my hair was left super dry & brittle. I'm only giving a 3 star rating becuase of the aftermath of my service here. The service itself was great. Ms.Angella and Maria were lovely, but if you are a 4c natural, this might not be the place for you. I called last saturday for a simple blow out and trim. When I got to the salon, they gave me a deep steam treatment which I'm in no way complaining about (I needed it.) After that, Maria(sorry if I'm not remembering her name correctly) proceeded to blow dry my hair and flat iron it. I decided to go along with it since it's been a while. Angella took over once she was done and cut my hair as well as flat ironing it some more and styling it. I loved the results. As I started sweating during the week while working/working out, I began to smell a burnt/chemical smell coming from my hair. I washed and deep conditioned my hair today to find a good amount of heat damage. I'm really dissapointed. I wanted to wear my hair out today, but the damge is pretty embarrasing. I'm just in Jacksonville temporarily, but if I lived here, unfortunately I would not be returning here for service. read more

I found this salon online by googling Japanese hair straightening near me. What a wonderful find! Angela book me on Sunday morning which was great because of my work schedule. I've been doing Japanese straightening on and off since 2007 and I love it. I'm hispanic with beautiful curly hair but at my age (50+) I'm liberating myself from the slavery of styling my hair. These treatments lasts me about 8 months even though I don't blow dry it all the time. But is so nice to wake up and just brush my hair and "voilá". This salon experience was amazing, nice music, state of the art equipment, comfy setting and work chairs and definitely Angela knows what she's doing. All Japanese treatments are expensive (this was my 1rst time with Yuko brand, before I used Bio-ionic ) Im very satisfied with the results. I wish I had this option when I was a teenager because it would have boost my self esteem so much. I love curls but when you're young you need that extra boost. Hehe.
