Im happy to be the first to write an official review on Salon 804. If you are looking for all of the comfort of having your black hair done by people who have been doing it for years, and doing so in a healthy alternative way, then you've come to the perfect place. This is my first visit here and I knew from the minute I met my stylist, everything was going to be alright. In the heart of the new cleaner Harlem, 1 Ave and 2 blocks (4 minutes) from the 2/3 (125th street), the place is bright, airy, clean, and most of all, still a little bit of soul. (No ghetto loudness, no craziness, just great hardworking stylists) The co-owners are from VA, but are NYC vets with their speed and style. My hair: I have relaxed hair (which I relax about every 2-3 months), I traditionally go to a dominican salon, but today is my birthday and I really wanted finger waves... AND I want to go to a black hair salon who knew what they were doing. (I'm from the midwest so I'm picky). By the grace of the good Lord, I happened to find this Salon 804 on google. I called and spoke to a little girl (I knew I was calling the right place, haha, it's a black thing), then receptionist, who made the recommendation that I see Rob. There was no book reservation. A little unsettling at first, but went with it. Found out later that each stylist takes care of their own client. There was a little morning snaffu, and a little bit of a wait, but I could tell if that had not been the case, he would have been their before me. He is all about his work. I was warmly greeted by one, washed by another, and once Rob arrived, consulted and styled, and under the dryer in under 10 minutes! (Finger waves.... Yes, He's that good!). He used an alternative method that I'd done before, that I was thankful for because it's healthier for your hair and scalp... and I didn't have to ask. He just did it. (Huge thumbs up) While here, I've seen a relaxer, set, style, and walk in. All looked stylish, clean, and fast. VA in NYC. I love you for it, and I will surely be back. Big Hug, STL in NYC.

    Cut and color by Lucy

I travel from NJ to get my hair done. Lucy has been doing my hair for 10+ years as well as my daughters. From perms to natural. Long hair to short! They can color and cut . There style and service is amazing!

Don't go to this place. They will injure you and then DMNyou a how can I fix it! Worst experience of my life. Painful!!!

The services are OK, but there is too much gossiping and food eating for my taste... I like to go to the Salon as a treat and Zone out : )

I walked into a space that covers a lot of ground, from snacks and drinks to beauty products, home goods, and collectibles, and the density of what is on display makes it easy to spend more time browsing than I planned. The snack selection is the strongest draw and covers an impressive range. I saw Asian versions of familiar American snacks sitting alongside Japanese and Korean originals, and the drink section downstairs is broad enough that finding something I have not tried before is a near certainty. The variety of drinks, many with anime or character branding, reflects a buying approach that goes beyond the standard convenience store selection. The beauty and skincare section upstairs is well stocked with Korean and Japanese brands that are not widely available at American drugstores. I browsed through everything from face wash to sheet masks and specialty treatments, and the prices are competitive for imported products of this type. Blind boxes occupy their own significant section, and the selection across different series is one of the better in the city, with reasonable pricing relative to what the same items cost at specialty toy stores. Home goods, toys, collectibles, and kawaii accessories fill the remaining floor space. For a one stop shop for Korean and Japanese lifestyle goods, snacks, and beauty products in Koreatown, TESO Life delivers a broad and browsable experience that rewards repeat visits.

The store itself was clean, well-organized, and lots to browse, with prices that felt on par with other cosmetic shops in the area. That said, the experience felt more self-serve, as the sales associate wasn't particularly welcoming or attentive during my visit. If you already know what you're looking for, it's a great little spot to pop into. Just don't expect much in the way of personalized help--but the product selection makes it worth checking out.

If you're going to run a business in the melting pot that is NYC, you should teach your employees not to racially profile and that everyone should be treated equally.

Since then, my money has been in dispute because: The company does not respond to emails. They only send automated messages saying someone will get in touch with me, but no one ever does. I walked into a store that is essentially one large room, and the density of product on display meant navigating it during a busy period required some patience, but the selection within that compact space was broader than the size suggested. The Korean literature section covers both Korean language and English language editions across a range of genres, which makes it genuinely useful for anyone studying the language or looking for titles that are difficult to find at general bookstores in the city. I saw children's books in Korean, well stocked. The K pop side of the store covers albums, photocards, posters, keychains, stickers, and merchandise across a wide range of artists, with BTS having a particularly strong presence historically alongside newer groups. Pricing runs higher than what I would pay ordering online or finding the same items at a larger retailer, which is the standard trade off for a specialty shop in Manhattan. Album prices in particular can be steep, though sale events bring them down to more competitive territory. Individual accessory items like stickers and bookmarks are priced at a premium relative to their size, so going in with a sense of what I am willing to spend helps avoid sticker shock at the register. The store is a reliable stop for anyone looking for Korean books or K pop merchandise in a physical retail setting in New York, with the caveat that the pricing and the crowd level are both factors worth knowing about before I go.
