However, when I got home, I discovered I had chemical burns on my scalp, neck and face, as well as a blister on my ear that broke the skin. I've had many color treatments and balayages in the past and this has never happened to me before, so I'm very concerned. I love my hair, but the skin damage makes this a really tough experience. Edit: I am updating my rating from 2 to 3 stars to express my appreciation for the salon's prompt communication and offer of a refund. To keep my review honest and transparent, I do want to note that the physical reaction I experienced was a clear chemical burn, with localized areas feeling burning and oozing. This might have been an oversight during the process--such as product being left on a bit too long or not rinsed out thoroughly. The stylists here are undeniably talented, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time during the appointment itself. While the physical reaction was unfortunate, their effort to communicate with me is appreciated.

I googled "long hair salon Pasadena" and Salon Aguayo popped up on the map. It was the only salon open on a Monday, the receptionist was really friendly and I actually got an appointment for that day! So I went in to get my hair cut by Marquis. First off, the salon has a cool vibe: brick and exposed white beams, good music, and friendly staff who all have great hair. First impressions count! Marquis is friendly, professional, and patient. He took time getting to know me and what I was looking for in a hair style. He offered expert advise in easy conversation; I didn't feel uncomfortable or pushed in any way. Warm lavender towel behind my neck during a relaxing shampoo and massage and on to the cut. I watched Marquis' technique intently as I've never seen such precision. I knew I was in good hands! The result was the long style of my dreams! Marquis kept my length and worked with my curls. The result was immediately apparent as I saw my natural curls drying into an actual style. That's never happened before! Stylists are usually so confused by my curls that they blow dry and flat iron them into complete submission immediately! Marquis, on the other hand, very gently blow dried my hair into a gorgeous style that had volume, soft curl and shine. I even let Marquis brush my forever bangs back and side part my hair because it looked good! So now, a week later, I have washed my hair myself twice. The first time, I used a blow dryer to great success with my limited skills! Compliments all around at home and work! Second time, let my hair dry naturally and wow! I didn't have to do a thing! I have been going to see Melissa now for close to 10 years now. I've followed her around and started with her when she was a stylist at Vidal Sassoon. There, she always gave me the cut I was looking for and did so, and continue's to do so with a smile on her face. From there I followed her to Tailored Salon, where she's give me some of my best cuts! Melissa is great because she really takes the time to listen to you and get to know what exactly it is that you are looking for. BUT, she's also extremely skilled and know what will work for you hair, face, lifestyle etc. That's what I like most about her. I'll never forget that when I was growing my hair out, we cut my hair into a great style and she then said, "now don't come see me for at least 6 to 8 months"!! It was because she knew it would take that amount of time for my hair to grow to a length beyond just cutting off what I'd just taken time to grow. I don't think a lot of stylists would say that. They may just keep having you come back, and then you'd ask, "why isn't my hair growing." She's honest, extremely good at what she does and I would not hesitate to recommend her. I highly recommend Karen Spinelli at Salon Aguayo. She has cut and highlighted my hair for 11 years. I would go to NO ONE ELSE in all of Los Angeles!!! Karen told me a long time ago that she loves making people beautiful... And her passion for this has made a huge difference for me. She has transformed my graying, ash blond hair and given it life with three different color highlights. She got me hooked on Kerastace product, and my hair has gone from "looking like a wig" to soft, shiny and moving. She totally changed my cut from short & wavy to all one length & straight. Salon Aguayo is a very classy, top notch salon. I have been going to Joseph for years and nothing compares to his knowledge and expertise. If I'm not sure what I want to do from season to season, Joseph always has great suggestions and I always leave totally thrilled with my hair color, cut or highlights. Just went today and already had rave reviews about how beautiful my hair looks. LOVE it. I love his assistant, Anthony. He's an absolute doll and a I always look forward to seeing him. I've had women stop me on the street and ask where and who cuts my hair. Karen is creative and thoughtful in her consideration of your cut and is always open to input. Not only was she a very kind hearted person, but she treated me as if I was the most important cliect that she had ever had. She took good care of me there, offered me something to drink, and made she listened to everything that I wanted done to my hair. I have to say I was delighted to spend time at Salon Aguayo! The staff was so pleasant and nice and even offered beverages when you walk in. Marquis did my hair and I was blown away! I have never had a hairdresser who listened and appreciated my hair like he did! He was gentle and knew what hairstyle I wanted and he knew how to executed it perfectly and magically. The receptionist came by multiple times to ask if I needed more water or more coffee and at the end of the whole appointment I looked amazing. I text Liz to ask if they can add my sister at 10:00 for hair and makeup and she confirmed yes. I have all the proof on my text. Then a few days before I asked if they could do my hair at 9:30 no makeup and they were nice enough to accommodate me (or so I thought) fast forward to day of our big event. Yes I was running late and they moved it down that was my fault. But when my sister got there at 10:00 they started asking for one of my nieces saying one of them was suppose to be at 10:15. My sister called me on speaker and Liz was very rude and unprofessional. She totally made my sister feel so uncomfortable on a very important day for her and her daughters. It made me so upset that the start of their big day was ruined by how rude they were being treated and how Liz was yelling at me on the phone. I sent screenshots to my sister so she can show them proof of all our conversations. Liz dismissed it still blaming me. I told my sister here is the text she sent me with prices because I have a feeling she's going to try to charge you more. Sure enough my sister said she tried to charge her more. Upon seeing my nieces to get them in their quinceñera dress I could not believe the makeup that was done on them. I could have done a better job. They slapped sloppy glitter on top of their eyelids and put on cheap eyelashes. Their makeup looked lfar from special and the girls were so disappointed they almost cried. This "beauty bar" is not for a special occasion! Avoid at all cost. You will be disappointed. The makeup artist is nicer than Liz that's for sure but does not do quality work. Pay more for makeup because a cheap price comes with cheap makeup and hair . Update! The business intended to clarify but they are wrong. I'm not going to lie, the extractions hurt but they're necessary so just grit your teeth and the process will be over before you know it. This spa is located in a plaza with a very ample parking lot. It is monitored so make sure you pay for your parking (I believe the first 30 or 90 mins are free...forgot the deets on that) or you will come back to a ticket. If you're in a need of a snack before your appointment, there are several coffee shops you will pass before reaching the spa. Appointments are required as is a deposit for services.

This is not the haircut I was given. I told Sophia during the haircut it was not short enough and asked her to cut more. At a certain point I had to go because I had to leave to pick up my son. My hair was not blown out and the haircut was not what I asked for. Yes I paid but I felt taken advantage of and will never go back which is what I told my friend. Sophie finished with the other client when I finished which is crazy since I was booked at 12:30. Poorly run business. Disappointed all the way around.

They have areas for manicures, pedicures, and I think even permanent jewelry. It's like a one-stop shop for self-care. I came in for a haircut and was offered a drink right away. Vanilla was awesome. I had an idea of what I wanted, and he was able to take that and give me a more elevated version of it. He definitely understood the assignment! I already got a lot of positive compliments on the new haircut. During the haircut, Vanilla took me over to the high-tech massage chairs. It was so nice laying there while getting my head massaged and shampooed; I think I actually fell asleep. I left feeling relaxed and recharged. It still feels too good to be true, but I was reassured that the massage and wine will always be complimentary. There were no extra charges. The salon also has their own parking lot, though I was able to park on the streets without any issues.
