Followup to my review from yesterday: Within hours of posting my review regarding two disappointing experiences with Salon Alure, I received a phone message from one of the managers. Unfortunately, I could not hear the woman's name. I went to the salon today and asked to speak with a manager, and actually met with the owner (Mr. Carmen- apologies if that is not the correct spelling). He listened to my tale and asked if I could wait 10 or 15 minutes and he would have one of his stylists fix the issue. That stylist ended up being a wonderful man named Jesse Z. He was able to diagnose my issue immediately and assured me that bobs are his specialty. He was not lying. He was able to make my hair look great. But Salon Alure did not just simply have someone fix the problem. When I was checking out...they not only did not charge me for today's fix (which I expected)...they gave me a gift certificate for my next visit as well. I certainly did not ask for that, nor was I expecting it. I must say I was pleasantly surprised and appreciative. I know everyone has a bad day now and then, Lord knows I have had my share. But my experience today with Salon Alure has renewed my faith and I look forward to my next appointment with Jesse. Harman and Arzu did a wonderful job with my hair! It was incredibly dark before I started so we had to go through a few rounds of color remover to get it to a good base to apply the color I wanted. I went to Olga for a brow wax afterwards, and while I was a little anxious (due to other people screwing up my eyebrows in the past) Olga took great care of me and I'm able to do my brows in way less time than before now! I asked for a small trim because I am trying to grow my hair out . It's pretty thick in the back so I asked for it to be thinned and then curled for homecoming. He first said he could not curl it becuase there isn't a single curling iron in the whole salon which is crazy to me because it's a hair salon. But o just considered a new hairstyle so I asked for long layers. He cut my hair almost to a bob not close to what my hair used to be. I have pretty long blonde hair and he chopped it off no where near a trim. Then he dried my hair and said I was good . Didn't thin it or do the layers I was in complete shock. My hair is short, unsylwd and terrible for homecoming. We scheduled a 2 o'clock appointment and he was finished it all at 2:19. read more

Harlan is an artistic genius! I've been stuck in a rut style-wise and hated what my hair color had evolved to. Impressed with what Harlan had done with a friend's cut, I took a leap of faith and gave him complete control to work his magic. So, so happy I did! Stay Away...I was recommended to this place but it was the biggest disappointment I ever experienced from a hairstylist and given the fact I was supposed to stand up in a wedding four days later left me in a horrendous situation. My hair is naturally summer blonde... I went in to see Harlan and told him I wanted more highlights and a cut that was similar to Julie Chrisley's but longer. Harlan stopped me midsentence and told me my hair should be a strawberry blonde he explained to me his "Artistic" process Which consisted of mixing multiple colors together in his back room... I kept indicating all the way through I wanted a summer kissed blonde look and he told me not to worry he is "the expert" and can just look at my face be able to tell what color and cut to give me. ....long story short and four hours later I ended up with a "color" of what I thought was supposed to be a "highlighted" application to my hair ---instead he applied a "temporary color" to my hair in its entirety. when I asked him what was the formula he used he said that he just used his expertise in mixing all the colors and he's proud that he pulls colors together without using any kind of formulas ---this should've been a red flag But The mixture was already on my head... (my family called the color poo poo browned and told me it aged me 20 years). I was so shocked that I couldn't even speak I just kept looking at myself in the mirror thinking I have a wedding in four Days.......he turned my blonde hair to a dull muddy brown Which also removed the natural shine ..a shine that strangers would stop compliment me on for having such naturally beautiful blonde hair --that was gone. The cut was just as disastrous as he cut me with a razor ...and after going to a true hairstylist to fix it- they told me that giving the fact that although I have a lot of hair its on the thin side and should never have been cut with a razor -it should be only cut with scissors in order to get a proper cut. The third part of this disastrous experience was -as he was brushing my damp hair out it kept getting snarled and so he had his assistant apply a conditioner twice over. she ended up with the same result. I started getting a headache from all the pulling and all I asked if I could brush my hair myself... as I proceeded to do so I couldn't figure out what the problem was until I turned the brush over --the brush's plastic prongs were bent over and twisted so it kept causing my hair to snarl ...i explain to them that they need a new brushes--Harlan still charged me $20 extra for each conditioning($40.) ( my hair never needed extra conditioning in its lifetime) ...I normally walk out of a place like this but I was in such shock I kept thinking how am I going to fix my hair with the wedding being in four days ...I just wanted to get out of there n paid the bill but thinking back Harlan should've never charged me $20 per conditioning treatment And the fact that he ruined my natural hair color and would not listen to me even after trying to show him pictures.....So instead of having a highlighted summer kiss blonde hair with my natural shine intact I ended up with a dull muddy Pooh Pooh brown color hair with a disastrous cut. I will never go back to this place and who knows if he ever even changed out his brushes. Just for FYI I never had to have my hair colored; I always had simple highlights added to my natural color. what a disaster. For Harlan : I understand you want to express your artistic flair but you have to learn also to listen to your customers and when your products are bad they should be replaced with proper hairstyling equipment and not be charging your customers for your frugalness. This was the worst experience of my entire life I'm in my mid 40s.... so I know what looks good on me or what cuts work or don't work... this is the last $320 that I will be spending at Salon Allure for what was supposed to be a highlighted and simple layered framed face cut read more

Disastrous, I went in looking for help and ended up having my hair chopped off without giving the man my permission. I am devastated after going to this place called salon allure. Why would a hairdresser even cut your hair without asking what you want and listening to your answer? The man's name is Jesse and you should watch out before you do anything with him except get a color. read more

I went here again recently and couldn't get Eva, my previous stylist, but settled for another stylist hoping for the best. Nope. They didn't add volumizer this time, my stylist barely knew how to do a bouncy blowout like Eva did (even after I showed him photos of my last one) & then he called over another stylist to curl my hair when ALL I wanted was a simple blowout. I was not informed about it being a $22 upcharge and basically got scammed. Could've just done my hair at home. read more

I really didn't want to leave a review, but I'm so annoyed and upset, I can't help but say something. I went last weekend to get Balayage done. The person who did it did a TERRIBLE job. It was brassy, splotchy, uneven, not blended and I literally had spots on my head like a leopard. We called and they said I could come back in to have it fixed because I spent a lot of money on my hair for it to look bad. When I get there, they inform me that I'm going to have to dye my whole head because the balayage cannot be fixed. Fine. Whatever. THEN I'm told I have a credit for $115 and the cost for today would be $179 so I'll owe money out of pocket to pay for the color correction and dye THAT I DID NOT WANT BECAUSE I WANTED BALAYAGE. And then I'll have to go back next weekend and pay for balayage again. The stylist messed my hair up, and then they charged me to fix it and will charge me again to go and get what I originally went in for. I have no idea how that makes any sense but I'm very very unhappy with spending $300 without tips thus far just to end up with a solid hair color. I won't be going back for balayage. If you do go there, ask to see Jordan because she's amazing and she fixed the mess the other stylist made. read more

I have been having my hair colored and cut by the salon owner Harman at Salon Alure for many years. I have always been extremely pleased with the results. He recently did a new color tone and style to my hair. I love the new look. It is very flattering to my skin tone. In fact I have received quite a few compliments. That is a skill that Harman possesses. He evaluates your face, skin tone and hair type to determine the best way to proceed for the most flattering result. He also takes into account how much time and effort you want to devote to styling your hair. I also have facials done with Olga. Great service. My skin looks great!!! I've gotten my eyebrows first threaded a few years ago here and they were some so well! I ended up switching to waxing because of how thick my eyebrows are. Both situations have been wonderful. Took my daughter here for her first hair apt. They had room for me and I watched this staff work seamlessly together to keep several women flowing through their beauty treatments with such grace & charisma. Nobody was left wondering where to go or what was next--and they got busy! My daughter's bob is adorable and so much lighter than when we walked in. My hair took some work since it hasn't seen any care for about 3 years. Harman did a fantastic job with the color, tone, & glaze. He gave my "natural wisdom" a color boost into the 21st century and I get to look younger until I see him again in October. I went in looking for basic highlights and a change up but I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted. Harman took control right away, explaining what would look best for my face as well as the season. He took time to help me understand what needed to be done and showed a lot of thoughtfulness and care. The entire session was professional and enjoyable. As I'm sure many fellow moms can attest to, it is a miracle if you can get your toddler to take their afternoon nap, and that in itself is a major success. But - what if you were not only able to get your toddler to take their nap but you also called a local salon practically begging to rush in for a much needed trim while they slept (don't worry everyone, they had a sitter) and they said - wait for it - yes! That is what happened to me and I put that experience in and of itself up there with frosting and baby sloths wearing footie pajamas. I digress. Jesse Z. cut my hair and he did a fantastic job. The woman who shampooed and conditioned (aka the best scalp massage ever) my hair was AMAZING and I asked her if she would come home with me so I could have my hair washed by her everyday. In response to Harman from Salon Allure in Purcellville, VA: Sorry, I am not mistaken. I have been to your salon in Purcellville on 3 or 4 occasions for a haircut or facial. My family who live in Purcellville, have shared the same experience. I have had a haircut and the stylists DO NOT inform you that there is an additional charge for treatment that they choose for you. Furthermore, what prompted this negative review (and was the last straw) was a facial I received not long ago. I went in for what my understanding and request was a basic facial for $60. When I went to pay for the facial, I was charged $120 as the esthetician told me she gave me an anti-aging facial. I was shocked.This appointment along with several other unpleasant experiences prompted me to write a negative review of Salon Allure. The sales tactics are aggressive and deceptive. read more

Going to be leaving here sadly. The last two times I went my scalp hurt for two days after while the chemicals were on it burned bad and my hair was not what I asked for. First time with a new lady second time same lady worse results. How do you misunderstand highlights? I'm dying grey out not adding extra streaks of it all over my head. I had an appointment with my regular stylist at a dIfferent salon in Purcellville and she cancelled on me...again. I was getting ready to leave the country in a few days and really needed it cut amidst all of the million other things I needed to do to get ready to leave. I called to see if there was any way they could fit me in and if at all possible with a stylist who does razor cuts on short hair. Tall order I know! The woman on the phone said they had just the person and could fit me in in a half an hour. I got there a little early and decided to press my luck and see if anyone there could do my eyebrows. They said they'd check while I was getting my hair cut. Then I proceeded to get one of the best haircuts I've ever had! Jessie is incredible. Not only did he do a great job he explained the how's and whys of the method and tools he was using. He was also extremely fast! I've got terribly fine and flat hair but he gave it so much depth and texture! I've found my new stylist! After my haircut Rashmi (spelling?) asked if I wanted my eyebrows threaded. I've had them threaded once before and it hurt! Rashmi was great. It didn't hurt much at all! I also have very boring brows with no arch and she was able to give me a little bit of one. I'll definitely be back for her too! Great job all around! I've lived in Purcellvillle for ten years and I'm sad that I'm just now finding this shop. I highly recommend Jessie and Rashmi! Kristen has moved out of the area and is no longer there, as of June. She had recommended two stylists in the salon to me, to take over in her stead, and after 12 years of association with this salon (my mom has been coming since 2005), I won't be going back. I had called weeks ahead and scheduled an appointment for July 1, as my husband would be home from Afghanistan (deployed) and I wanted to have fab hair for the occasion. When it was a week out, I learned he would be coming home sooner, so I asked to reschedule to an earlier spot, and the receptionist couldn't find my appointment because the last person to take my call scheduled it for AUGUST 1. Now, I KNOW this was not my error because I won't even still be living in VA in August. #Armylife There were some doubtful apologies, and I was scheduled for a stylist I had never seen, nor was recommended to me... Jessi (male, not the female Jessi-- who is who I was HOPING to see).. He did a fantastic job on the trimming of my hair, however he did not listen AT ALL when I asked to be dyed back to my natural color, even though I had two inches of root showing, he dyed my hair several shades darker than I am naturally, AND put a red hue on my hair, which I naturally have NO HINT of a red tone whatsoever. I came in WITH the hair color I wanted, thanks to Kristen, my previous lady, and instead I now look like a wanna be goth kid with "seemingly" jet black hair, when I'm naturally a dark blonde. Now there's nothing I can do about it, because it would be a $500 color correction, for his error in not listening to what I SAID was my hair color, and him instead going with what "goes with my skin tone" because he "mixed 4 different colors to achieve my natural color." I won't be back. And since Kristen is gone, I doubt my mom of 12 or so years of this salon will be either. read more

First, I'm not rating on hair!! For a really great hair salon see Techniques Hair Colour Studio! I'm rating Allure on Olga the master facialist and on the front room staff. Olga is fantastic at waxing eyebrows. She is the only person I'll let do my eyebrows except Nahid in Dallas Texas (trained by Eliza Petrescu of Eliza's Eyes). Her temple massages with peppermint oil are so good they make you drowsy. Give yourself time to fully recover before leaving the salon. The front staff is extremely polite and helpful with selection of Aveda products, booking appointments, and finding answers to your questions. Best place of its kind in Purcellville. Oh, the manicures are great too! read more

I've been going to this salon since Harmon and Monisha opened it in 2005. I wouldn't go anywhere else! Harmon is a master of color -- the only master stylist, colorist, and educator I can (and do) tell, "Do whatever you want." Last time, he created a color blend that is both classic and up-to-the-moment. I love how he's adapted cut and color for me as I;ve aged. What is especially impressive is his teaching. He takes every opportunity to educate his team of stylists. It's a joy to be in a salon filled with talent, respect, and a healthy dose of fun. I recommend Salon Alure without hesitation. read more

I Googled the nearest hair salon when I moved to Purcellville... I was desperate and long overdue for a color touch up and a haircut. I saw great reviews for this salon in other websites and decided to book an appointment. And I must say... Wow! This is the Holy Grail of hair salons. For starters... their waiting chairs have massagers. Yes.. and it only gets better from there. As soon as I sat down, I was offered a drink (with a plentiful selection to choose from). The small space is beautifully designed and decorated with a clean contemporary feel to it. I was lucky enough to book my first appointment with the owner of the shop, and he was inspiring and had great conversation and sense of humor. After my color set in and got my hair washed, I got a relaxing massage that gave me goosebumps. I was pleasantly surprised with the low price I paid for such great quality of work and service. I didn't stay long enough to get a blow out, since I decided to take my hair wet. As soon as I dried my hair... I could see the rich color and beautifully blended highlights. It only kept getting better and better. Needless to say... I am hooked. This is my salon of choice. I found my unicorn! read more

Rashmi gave me partial highlights and did a super job. My only complaint was the cost. When I booked the website said the cost would be $108 so you can imagine my surprise when she told me my total was $182. She charged me $25 for toner (never asked if I wanted it nor that it would cost extra) and she charged me another $49 to blow dry my hair. When I questioned her she said it was for "styling". My parents have owned salons when I was growing up and I've been to many salons since they retired and "styling" was never an extra cost. Rashmi did reduce the cost by $10 since I complained, but I'm still frustrated. If you're going to charge $49 for a blow dry then either tell the customer first or change the website price to $157. I feel blindsided and don't like that! read more

I saw Tania for a much needed hair cut. She was a seasoned professional despite just starting at the salon. This was absolutely one of my top three haircuts! She was very methodical and thoughtful and explained the different techniques she used on my hair, and why. Tremendously refreshing. She had great styling ideas, while asking and being mindful of how I normally parted/styled my hair. For my husband and son I recommend Jose or Jessie B. Nice owners, complimentary facials, best tea I've ever had and fair prices based on experience. DO NOT GO HERE!!!. I went in for highlights and left with bright orange roots (?? Because I have brown hair so naturally brown roots) and the rest was over processed brassy yellow.this was back in feb. I immediately went back for him to fix it and when he was done not only was it not fixed, he chemically burned off a crazy amount of hair. When I went to a new salon, the stylists were shocked that someone let me leave their salon with hair looking like that. Needless to say, I have NOT gone back to him. 7 months later I am beyond frustrated because my hair is still much thinner than it used to be and extremely damaged despite using pureology shampoo and conditioner (which has helped a ton!!). If you do not want to spend an absurd amount of money to have your hair burned off, PLEASE try somewhere else! Otherwise you will be dealing with the consequences for a while like I am and I would not wish that on anyone. PS the picture does not show how truly bad it was. read more
