I have been going to Salon Aura for over 10 years, and to this day, I have no desire to look elsewhere. Most days, when I enter the salon, I am greeted by Tanya, who is one of the most gracious and competent front desk managers I have ever encountered. I get my hair cut by Albert, whom I affectionately call "Edward Scissorhands" because he is a master at cutting hair. Each time I visit, he finds new ways to style my hair, as he is always learning the latest techniques. He truly is the best. Sometimes I simply tell him to "do what you want" because he knows my preferences well, and he always gets it right. I used to have my hair colored by Albert as well, but one day he was extremely busy and suggested I try Marianne, one of his top stylists and colorists. I just got the worst hair cut from Salon Aura. As I begin to ask the hair dresser to blend the angles, she interrupts me and says "You feel like what????" She proceeded to blend my angles, which were uneven, so I asked her on her opinion if they were uneven. She responds "that's just your hair." Not only did I feel embarrassed about voicing my opinion (on an expensive service i'm paying for), but she continued to call my hair dry and be annoyed when it wasn't easy to brush. I felt embarrassed all around being there, especially leaving with my hair cut into square chunks, so I wanted to get out asap. I received the worst haircut ever in the 63 years I have been alive. Albert butchered my hair. I went back to see if it could be made better but the damage was already done. I never had so many friends and family come up to me and say "what the hell happened to your hair?" or "did you have a fight with your hair stylist?" I know it was not intentional, but it could seem that way. It has been 10 weeks now and finally it looks decent. I can stop wearing hats or plastering my hair down with hairspray. read more

It saddens me to write this. I heard only great things about this salon. My wedding is on 5/28. I went to the salon for a consult in the beginning of May then I came back for the appointment and had toner put on with the understanding I would have a sunkissed golden hair look. Sadly my hair turned out dark and red. I called the salon upset and gave them a chance to correct it. they put in a gentle color remover which took 3 hours but it didn't remove the red and stripped off my keratin treatment which they assured me would not happen. Of course I'm freaking out as my wedding is in less than a week. I went to the original salon which is in Smithtown - I didn't go back there for the toner bc it's far and thought this was an simple procedure. It took 5 hours and another $300 with tip. My color is fixed but the keratin ($250) is not in my hair. I wasn't able to find an appointment before the wedding. I reached out to Salon Aura several times, over the phone, email, and through direct message on Instagram. They said they'd be willing to give me back $45. I asked to have closer to the amount I had to pay to have it redone. Then I didn't hear from them and now they're ignoring my messages. read more

People were nice and respectful but the work was not great. I asked for half balayage and instead of doing that, the women decided to only dye the under pieces of my hair where you can't even see the color. i asked for money pieces and she made the pieces so wide and chunky that it looked like i had half black hair and half blonde. the color became brassy and orange a week later and I decided to get it done somewhere else in town because i was embarrassed of how i looked. very disappointed but they do great on other hair. but if you have dark brown hair and want balayage , i'd reconsider salons. read more

Was in town for my nieces wedding. Found Salon Aura online to do my makeup. When I met Erin, I told her that I dont normally wear makeup and I deferred to her. I pointed out some lines around my lips and asked her to do her best to cover them. She said, " I'm not a magician" I thought that was a great answer and when she was done...I told her, " you may not be a magician but you ARE an artist". I've had a lot of big changes in my life recently and was seeking a dramatic new look. Hairsay Salon was recommended to me by my mother so I went in to have a consultation and discuss with the salon what I desired, and to figure out who I would use as a stylist and colorist. Albert and Val immediately made me feel at ease and I knew they would make me look fabulous. I scheduled my appointment and a week later I came back to the salon for my big day. The entire salon crew was simply amazing! Everyone was genuinely so excited for me and it showed. They knew I was nervous because I was chopping off about 9 inches of my hair and going with a completely new haircut for the first time in my life but they all were cheering me along and made me feel like a rockstar. Albert gave me the most amazing haircut I've ever had in my life. He took his time and paid such great attention to every detail. He could not have done a better job. Val worked on my color and when I was done I felt like a model! His professionalism and attention to detail were amazing as well! The salon is clean and new and has an energetic, talented staff. Unpleasantly surprised by my experience here. I just moved to NY from out of state and was looking for a new salon. I chose Hairsay because of the many positive reviews, but it was a poor experience from start to finish. First they scheduled me for an appointment at the wrong location... I asked for garden city and they gave me port Washington. Then my hairdresser was late for the appointment. Then they quoted me $60 on the phone but charged me $100 and later cut it down to $75. Then the stylist told me they couldn't blow dry and style because of Covid restrictions - the receptionist looked surprised when I told her that and said it wasn't true and brought me back to the chair for a blow dry (thank goodness). But the worst part of this whole experience was the cut itself. My hair is naturally thick and curly but I always wear it straight. So I always ALWAYS have it cut for how it looks when it's straight because thats how I wear it 99% of the time. I have been getting the same haircut since I was 16 years old (what can I say, I'm a creature of habit) so I know exactly what I want and exactly what works for my hair type. When I sat down in the chair, I told my stylist exactly what I wanted- cut off 3 inches from the bottom, angles in the front and layers in the back. Pretty basic. Unfortunately my stylist decides to cut my hair so that I can wear it curly... despite me repeatedly telling her I wear it straight so the angles and layers should be cut for a straight look. I asked for shorter angles and she refused.. flat out REFUSED because she didn't think it would look good and didn't "want to be responsible" for a shorter look. I have NEVER in my life been literally refused a cut I requested because the stylist wanted to do her cut her way on my hair... I was flabbergasted. To top it off the stylist didn't give me layers at all, just left the old outgrown layers that I had before I arrived to see her. I have literally gotten better haircuts as a poor college student at Supercuts. I had initially hoped to find a salon I could go to for cut and color services but I'm so glad I decided to try out the cut first to see if I liked this place. Definitely will not be returning to Hairsay for either a cut or a color. While I respect and welcome the opinions of a professional stylist, I wish Hairsay understood that ultimately it is the clients hair and the clients choice and I don't appreciate being refused a service that I'm paying for. If the stylist disagreed with my request I wish she had communicated this BEFORE she started cutting so I could have requested an alternative stylist. read more

Great cut. Heavy-handed "hair painting" (balayage) fried my hair. Went in once to have it fixed. Toned down the brassiness, but the spray-in conditioning treatment didn't change the fact that they FRIED my hair. Conditioning treatment washed right out and now I have to cut off a lot of length. Albert really cared about me being happy and satisfied with my hair and really encouraged me to give Hairsay another try. So, I decided to give Hairsay another chance because I really do love Hairsay and even though I had a bad experience with one stylist, does not mean all the others are bad. I was greeted and seated right away. Marianna took care of me and fixed my hair!!! SHE'S AMAZING. Albert and Marianna are angels! I am so glad and beyond happy that I went with Hairsay!! Marianna definitely knew what she was doing and I couldn't be more satisfied with my new balayage!!!!! Thank you Albert and Marianna!!!!! Old review: I am so shocked at the result of my hair especially when I paid so much for it. I really trusted Katherine to give me the balayage of my dreams, but the outcome is not even a balayage, it's more like highlights. I even consulted thoroughly with Katherine a month in advance showing pictures of what I wanted and AGAIN BEFORE THE PROCESS BEGAN. BUT, one side of my head looks like it has been bleached a lot and then the other side looks more subtle. The middle of my hair looks lighter and the ends look dark, isn't a balayage suppose to have a transition from the mid shafts to the end of the hair? My hair seems like it is the other way around. It looks so stupid. Mind you that I came back after my first visit because I had 2 huge patches of bleached hair on the top of my head. I am so confused! WHY? She obviously does not know what a balayage is. Also, one of my favorite shirts are ruined due to the hair lightner she used. It's a huge patch of a bleached stain. I came back to let Katherine fix my hair and let her know that my shirt was bleached during the process and she brushed it off like it was something normal. Wow, just wow. You guys were my go to salon. I am not saying the whole salon is bad, the receptionist ladies were very nice but Katherines "finished look" makes me not want to ever come back. My hair is literally ruined and now I have to go find a different salon to fix Katherines mistakes. I was able to get last minute appointments for my son and daughter and am thrilled with their haircuts. Stella cut my daughter's hair and she got her to sit still and gave her a beautiful cut, made her feel comfortable and was so patient. Stella is such a warm and personable stylist we will be using no one but her going forward. My son got his hair cut by Elianna and she used scissors the entire cut except when cleaning up the neck, ears and sideburns. She was also so warm and patient and it was his bet haircut ever. He has a side part and cowlick and every barber makes him look like Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber. We will be clients for life!! The salon was spotless, everyone was masked and spaced out. All I can say is I definitely will never go back here. I was a client for several years. My stylist/colorist was Nina. I was extremely happy with Nina and the job she did. I come to find out from social media that she is no longer there. I contacted the salon because I had scheduled an appointment with Nina over a month in advance and was never notified that she was no longer there. They claimed they contacted me and left me a message. When I asked when, because I never received a missed call or voicemail, I was told "like 2 weeks ago". What can I say very professional...you don't keep a record or note of the date and time you leave a message? Furthermore, if you reach out to a client with an upcoming appointment and 2 weeks have past and no call back, don't you think you should reach out again to confirm she received the message? To top it all off I had purchased a package for color services. I requested a refund for the sessions I didn't use, and I received a call back that the owners will not give me a refund for the un-used sessions. Well, now I will be disputing the un-used services with my credit card company. It is a matter of principle, not about the money, which is what they clearly don't understand. You let go of my colorist/stylist, never contact me, and now refuse to reimburse me for the few remaining sessions I have left and will not use? Thanks to social media I now know that Nina is a few blocks away at Evergreen salon, and that is where I will be taking my business moving forward. read more

This place is amazing! I let someone practice balayage on my hair and it turned out pretty bad. In a panic I called every hair salon in a 10 mile radius but it was a Sunday and most were closed. Hairsay was open and spent 5 hours on me fixing my hair. Neiloni colored my hair and brought it back to its natural color. People commented left and right that I had such beautiful natural hair they had no idea it was colored. I've been back a few times since to lighten it and she just does a beyond amazing job every time. The whole staff at Hairsay help each other out with things and they make you feel super welcome and comfortable. Stephanie often styles my hair after the color of Neiloni isn't available and does an amazing job every time. Can't say enough good things about this place!!! read more

I'm a guy so it's always been hard for me to find a good salon but when I walked in here for the very first time I knew I found my place. Soon enough my wife started coming here. And to be honest I think she LOVES this place more than she loves me. She comes here for coloring and getting her hair done before parties. In a town with a LOT of hair salons, Hairsay really stands out. It starts with a friendly & welcoming reception staff. Or maybe it really starts before that...making an appointment is easy, and can be done online. And parking is easy, as they are in the Stop & Shop shopping center. All salons have a vibe & "personality". I have been to some that are downright intimidating. Some that have seen better days, and could use an update. Some that are so loud the walls seem to be rattling. Hairsay has hit a nice balance, with a nice energy that still allows for a restorative experience in the chair. Of course, those are not the main reasons we go to a salon.... We want our stylist to "listen" to us when we say what we want the cut to look like, offer us a comfortable experience in the salon, and we want to emerge looking & feeling great! I used to go to Jackie and she gave me the best haircuts and actually cared. I went to Katherine after finding out that Jackie had left.
