NOTE: One thing I always see about hair salon/stylist reviews is they are based on reviewers that only have one review. That means I have no reference point for them. I'm clear Yelp isn't viral in Ventura County but if you want your review to be credible review other things/places! Michael is great, I got my hair cut 2 weeks ago. I needed to see how it grew before I reviewed. Just because it looked great up front, it could grow into a nest by months end. I like someone who explains what and why they are going to do it before they do it. I don't know shit but I want to feel included in the process. Michael was super cool and explained what he was thinking would work well with my melon and why. He clearly knew what he was doing. For what its worth, he said he trained at Vidal Sasson in Beverly Hills. He gave my wife a consult and she is now hooked also. The place, its clean, well appointed but once you've been the 10 minutes the place seems neutral with no real feeling to it. The important part its clean and not dated. The owner, bad first impression from her. Me and one other person in the salon and she didn't say hello. She has been friendly at times so I don't want to be to harsh. She does answer her phone while cutting hair which I think is a super no no.

When I started, my hair was recently shaved, 3inches all around, and my natural dark brown. When longer, it is STICK straight. All of the color he used in my hair looked great, treated my hair right, and (because I don't use color-fast shampoo) when it faded, it would go through color spectrums that complemented my skin tones nicely. Make sure you set aside at least 2 hours to see him. When he gets to work, he is focused on you and giving you the look you want. (He is also a great person to give creative freedom. You will leave looking amazing.) I'm the kind of person who is very lazy with her hair; I let it do what it wants. I explained this to Michael and he took note, making sure that whatever cut I got would LOOK like I spent two hours on it but really just looks fabulous right out of the shower (or with maybe 10 minutes dedicated to it for the shorter cuts that needed product). I come in every 2-3 months and we play with a different style every time. My first cut was a faux-hawk with dark reds panneled in. The red only showed on the sides when I styled it in a faux and there was a little streak on the front. When I felt like leaving it down, it looked very cute and something I could wear to a job interview (got the job). My second cut was another faux, a bit longer, and with the bottom corners on the back of my head emphasized a bit with uneven length and the same red he did (and touched up) on the top. This cut I had for a while while it grew a bit. The colors faded into a spectrum of reds, browns, and golds. It always looked amazing. For the third cut, we lost the faux. My hair was long enough to part and layer. The back looked longer due to the two "tails" at the back of my head that he kept cutting at uneven lengths. At this length, they looked odd for about a month, which he warned me it would. My friend tried to cut one off and even them out. But we had plans for those tails. The color changed too. All of the spots that were red and now blonde because of fade, he colored DARK purpley blue. The rest of my hair got a black wash. The purple was hard to see unless in direct light. Eventually, it faded to a lovely lavender and then to blonde. The black washed out to my natural color. The last cut I got was just a trim with no color. My hair is now past my shoulders, slightly wavy from the way he cut it with even a little curl on the "tails" which are now just the longer parts in my layer cut. We have never touched up the roots on the color panels. You couldn't tell there was half...1inch... 2inches of root. They just looked like highlights. They fade nicely into the rest of my hair. All I have to do is brush my hair in the shower, give it a squeeze with the towel, and walk away. It looks like I take the time to dry, curl, and fluff it. It's light and fun. (He has also done cut and color for my friends and co-workers with MUCH more conservative looks. They love their hair as much as I love mine!)

After I said what type of haircut I wanted (long layers and face framing front layers) I was taken to get my hair washed and shampooed. My hair was pretty long, almost to my butt, but didn't look nice because last December i went randomly into a franchise and took the next available appointment, thinking "what could go wrong?" I get that those are starter jobs for newly minted stylists and i won't name the place because maybe that person is better now. Anyway that was a total waste of money... so i tried Coco, she seemed very experienced so at some point i just trusted the process and my hair came out very beautifully in more complex cut than i would have imagined on myself.
