I remember when I was racially discriminated against at a job interview called SALON BLISS in gurnee il, by the owner. The whole interview was about how white salons made more money (not true) & wanted to know how much I'd & Blk salons charge for certain services. To raise her prices.She was just mainly concerned that she already had my white friend who she begged to call me btw who can "do silk presses" (she couldn't) then a Spanish girl already that did "relaxers" so she didn't need anyone for those services it was covered. I was going to receive Lower pay than everyone in the building. And the rest of the interview was about competition w/blk salons saying they don't compare when really she wasn't messing with them. The price of hair color at her salon, a blk one will make double off a install. She thought she was winning but was Actually loosing! I never gave her any price or showed her competitors prices . I left out in tears realizing what happened and my mom told me to pick my head up I could be more talented then all them women there but since I'm a blk women I have to work 5X harder because of who I am even if the others were mediocre they will receive it everytime because they're not blk. my school begged me not to write a review. because they banned her from picking up students anymore from there campus. Due to my experience but it weighed on my heart! I need other blk women that is inspiring to be a cosmetologist to not waste their time putting yourself what I did. Love this place! Everyone is very nice, the place is clean, and relaxing. But honestly I started coming here specifically for my stylist Lupe Romani. She's been doing my hair for over 10 years and the only one I trust with my thick, wavy and long Latina hair. She is the expert on color and always stays on top of the latest techniques. You can tell she is truly passionate about what she does and cares about making her clients happy. I LOVE how she does my cut, color and styling and I even asked her to style my hair for my wedding. I can tell her what I want and she can do exactly that to my hair. There are also times when I don't know what to do and she is the best at consulting and educating me on what would look best on me and what's best for my hair. I completely trust her expertise! I've done hair modeling for some years now and after hair shows my hair can look and feel damaged and not exactly the color I want but I always come to Lupe to "magically fix" my hair and leave it looking beautiful, natural, healthy, shiny and feeling soft again! Recently I started getting tons of hard to cover grey hair sprinkled all over but I leave it to Lupe to give me lasting natural-looking color. Speaking of natural looking color, I love the natural looking color, low lights and highlights Lupe does. I can only speak for the massage service. I've tried out different spas for massages since my regular therapist at another salon moved away. Some of my experiences were ok and some were down right terrible. All save for one felt a bit incomplete and sometimes rushed. Thank goodness I tried Salon Bliss in Gurnee and had the good fortune to have gotten Ania as my random therapist appointment. For the first time in a long time, a 60 minute massage felt like it thoroughly covered all my problem areas. The massage service was professional and had an organized flow to the technique, as a good licensed therapist should be able to offer. I now plan to use her as my regular therapist. The facility was well laid out and had a good atmosphere. I haven't witnessed anyone having a bad experience or complaining during the times of my visit. The staff appeared very courteous. The prices were competitive. I've actually had worse service at higher cost salon/spas, including resort vacation and cruise ship facilities. It's nice to know that good service is available at a local salon. read more

I have been a client of Salon Bliss for close to 15 years and a more professional, caring, yet fun place to be pampered, I have not found. Tanya owns my hair. It is her palate. I trust her judgement, opinion(s), suggestion(s) of styles, and products use immensely! Judie keeps my skin looking its best, from regular facials to the new hydra-facial. Her recommendations on skin care for my skin type is spot on. My manicure and pedicure are in the best "hands" with Gaby. I love her French manicures and the pedicures are heavenly! While these ladies, are my personal "go too's," all the Experts at SB are hard-working and welcoming professionals. I would be amiss not to give kudo's to Opal, the salon coordinator, who not only keeps everyone on their toes, but bakes the BEST cookies. I have gone to Salon Bliss for years! The employees and the owner never disappoint me! Rocellie Medina gives me wonderful manicures and pedicures. She's ambitious, has alot of team spirit. Recellie is a perfectionist in the best possible way! Katie Luplow loves what she does. She has done lip and brow wax for me on a regular basis and I am always pleased with her talent. I go to Katie Luplow for the Hydrafacial and she does a great job. I feel renewed afterwards! Katie is the best in her field. I "followed" my stylist (Amanda Stone) to Salon Bliss when she started working there (hell, I'd follow her anywhere actually). I've probably been going to Salon Bliss for five years or more, and I highly recommend it. Like I said, I started going to Salon Bliss because of Amanda Stone (she is a miracle worker with color--you want your color to look great every time, I recommend Amanda above all else). Amanda will be straight up honest with me if I suggest something that she really thinks is not the best choice for me, and on the other end of the spectrum she is adventurous with color and always trying new techniques and products. I've also been to Salon Bliss for massages and facials. I've used different massage therapists and estheticians and have been equally pleased with all of them. I have only seen MaryEllen Allabastro at Salon Bliss. I have seen her for several years, and can highly recommend her. She is extremely knowledgeable and keeps up with latest techniques, research and products. One can tell that she loves what she does, she is highly skilled and she is happy to share information and educate her clients. After seeing some of the negative reviews on this salon, I want to add that never once have I had any problem at all with either scheduling or services. I have received reminders by text message and by phone, and never once has Maryellen kept me waiting. Every time I have gone to an appointment with Maryellen, someone from the front desk has walked me back to the relaxing waiting area and offered me some refreshments. I have been going to Salon Bliss since 2003 when they were at a smaller location in Gurnee. This Salon has talented stylist and AMAZING customer service!! I have honestly been to at least half of their 50+ staff but in my opinion nobody compares to Rocelli's skills in haircuts, color, and up-do's!! She is not only a talented stylist but has the personality you would want your best bud to have, she's hands down the best stylist inside the very talented and up to date chic Salon Bliss! I never leave reviews for anything but after my experience at Salon Bliss in Gurnee, and particularly with stylist Clarissa - I had to get the word out. In between work and shuttling my kids around I never seem to have time for myself so I booked this appointment last minute simply because it was close by and I hit the jack pot. Clarissa was amazing. She sat down with me before my hair treatment and asked about my goals/wants and needs for my hair and get this, she ACTUALLY listened to what I had to say! I wanted to look polished but with minimal daily maintenance. She gave me options and it felt like we were collaborating. Some of these yelp reviews really scared me, so after I booked my appointment I called and asked them for their side of the story. Love the salon! Great atmosphere! So friendly! All stylist were so sweet and talkative! I loved it! I saw lizett! We did my consultation, found out what color I wanted! Talked about my cut! Then we started the process. The process was smooth and enjoyable! She's very friendly and we talked the whole time! And keep in mind I have a ton of hair! The end result was amazing! Salon Bliss truly provides a blissful experience! Upon walking in, the receptionists are warm, friendly, and chatty. They KNOW how to make customers feel important. The atmosphere is clean and inviting. Each station is clean and each stylist looks professional with a little "edge". Personally, my family and friends always sign up with Dawn Roberts. She is sooo knowledgeable. She listens to what we want and then can replicate any style. I've been going to Salon Bliss for 3years now for haircut and coloring with Rocellie she is amazing and very professional. Not only does she know what she is doing, she makes me feel very comfortable and relaxed. Rocellie is a god sent when it comes to color. She has taken my hair from black, to blonde, to red head, every time looking healthy and so rich! I will never trust my hair to any one but her, I learn that lesson. The front desk is so sweet and has always been patient with me, due to a busy schedule I cancel and rebook appointments, often. The highlight of Salon Bliss is there talented staff specifically stylist WENDY. She does awesome hair not only for he day but she does a cut that looks good even when I do it and it's a cut that continues to look great even as it grows out. I have followed her to multiple salons and I'm thrilled she's now at Salon Bliss because it's close, well appointed, offers multiple services and I love their reminder system. Every 6-8 weeks, I make a hair appointment with Tonja. It doesn't matter how terrible of a day I've had, or even terrible 6-8 weeks, I ALWAYS feel better after a visit to Tonja. She not only cuts my hair, she laughs and cries with me. She always laughs when I tell her to cut it shorter (I have really short hair to begin with) and gives me expert tips on making my hair appear thicker than it really is. Everyone there from the front desk (Rachel, Christina, Rebecca, April, Judy...) to the professional staff is amazing and always friendly and helpful!
