Although I've used Salon Bliss' services for over 10 years, I will not be returning. My 11 year old daughter and I went there for a no chip manicure for my daughter and no chip pedicures for the both of us. $178 later not including tip... we left with average results. Seriously?! I completely enjoyed my experience here. I had my very first massage (it was with Dagmara). She did amazing work and afterwards answered my questions with complete knowledge of physiology about massage and the human body. Afterwards, I hesrd from staff and friends how excellent and highly recommended she is! Afterwards I felt revived and relaxed, not tired. I also had a mani and pedi. The staff were patient and fun and ensured my nails were perfect before I left. Although it can be pricey, but most salons are within the same price range. I drive 20 minutes to come here. I've been going to Nikki at Salon Bliss for about 4 years now. I am a picky pain in the butt when it comes to my hair and she nails it pretty much every time. In fact, she does such a good job that, even though I moved to the city last year, I drive an hour north to have her do my hair. I have light brown hair naturally and dyed it dark brown for years. My roots have a tendency to turn red or some other funky color but not with Nikki. There was 1 time this happened and she redid them free-of-charge. We recently started highlighting my hair and I wasn't loving how it looked so when I went in for my last appointment, I asked if we could change it a bit. Nikki listened to what I was saying and made a suggestion on how to move forward and I went with it. Because I switched things up on her, my hair ended up taking way longer than we allotted for (my hair is long, like middle of my back). I felt awful because it caused her appointments to get pushed back but she didn't seem angry at all; she was great. And the end result was freaking AWESOME. My hair looks so good!! Bottom line, Salon Bliss is great. It's clean, the people are friendly, and Nikki rocks. Highly recommend!! read more

You guys, I hate to say anything bad on here but you must be warned. I just received the worst haircut of my life. It looks like my layers were cut with a hacksaw. My hair has absolutely no shape or potential. I can't style it in any way. I've been wearing it in a ponytail ever since my appt, just waiting for it to grow out. In addition to the terrible haircut, while Jordyn was shampooing my hair, it felt like she was trying to rip it all out. It was absolutely excruciating. I've never experienced a painful shampoo, until now. I was cringing the whole time. I've already spoken with management. I'm hoping between that discussion and this review, it will will prompt some additional training. I'm sure this goes without saying, but I will not be back. read more

This is my first review ever. Had an appointment last week Saturday for pedi, no chip mani, hair and makeup. Mani & pedi took 2 full hours. I was offered water 2x & I said yes thank you. Never received any water. My toe was cut during the pedi, I actually jumped & the tech never once said a word as my big toe bleed. Moving from the pedi chair to the manicure chair, no help was offered to carry my purse, boots and coat all while having foiled fingernails. Then was hair and makeup. Hair went great. Wash, blow dry & flat iron. Makeup, well anyone familiar with old the "old"makeup smell? Yep. So, 1 week later, my toe is not healed and 3 nails have already lifted at the ends and peeled off....also, I had no chip polish on from a previous manicure that was 4 weeks old. I had grow out, but nails were in great shape. Even the stylist commented on how great of shape they were in. I asked for a trim. They were cut, very unevenly & much shorter than we had discussed. This place is happy to charge you but not willing to acknowledge when a client is not satisfied. My daughter has had her hair done at this salon twice. The 1st time her experience was good and that is why she went back a second time. The second time she booked the appointment herself and asked for an appointment to get highlights done. When her hair was done she was charged double the price of what she was told over the phone. During the hair coloring she had a bad chemical reaction to the hair coloring chemical used on her, and it spilled all over her nice shirt - which is now permanently stained. When we called the manager to complain about all of the above the manager was cold and did not acknowledge that there were issues with that appointment and the work that was done. Now, the fun continues when a few days after the dreadful appointment her hair color actually turned pink in some parts, and my daughter's scalp was in pain (bleeding even, I kid you not) for many days after. It is sad to see other's have been over charged as well, and that their hair comes out pink or ruined. We certainly are not going back to Salon Bliss in Gurnee, IL; we are telling everyone we know not to go there; and we are publishing this review to make sure this does not happen to anyone else. read more

I gave a 3 because they were polite, professional , and environment and ambiance is so clean and welcoming. I loved the pedicure spa.....however, I didnt like the ingrown nails on toes werent tended to more and removed and cleaned out. Overall the pedicure experience was nice they give you a pillow for your neck and can even order rose if you want. I actually wasnt feeling well the day i had a pedicure and my technician was so nice and understanding about it. I had to return the next day to complete my no chip manicure. However, I received a no chip Monday and by Wednesday two of my nails broke, the cuticles are so very noticeable they werent cleaned out. I ended up pulling some out including hang nails and the polish is rubbery and came off on some nails. Its Friday only 5 days in and my no chip is not good which they usually last me 2-3 weeks.......UPDATE last week I went in for my wedding Manicure and Pedicure I got jipped on my pedicure time because she took 3 HOURS for my manicure with full set gel overlay. Then i go home and not even home for an hour i had gloves on to wash my dishes and clean my bathroom 4 of the nails came completely off while others still felt tacky how I left salon. I called and judy the manager was able to get me in to get it fixed barely making it to my wedding rehearsal.i was told it was my fault for cleaning( with gloves btw) but when the girl fixed them she didnt even make the coat of gel overlay even or file down to smooth top out but my moh didnt want to say anything to stress me out more but that same night 2 more nails came completely off! Doing nothing. Luckily they came off in one piece and the next morning for wedding we had to crazy glue them back as a fix. Wedding was Friday .by Tuesday all my nails were peeled or popped off.that should have last 2 weeks the least...i tried 3 different people there and NONE of them should be doing nails ill stick to my asian shops.everything else is ok ive gotten hair color once there just solid one color and facials....noone ever reached out to me after I contacted the next day after my wedding to let them know. Theres no way those nails should of came off 30 minutes later. Ive had nails before. Do not do nails here. Facials yes. Nails hell no. Hair so so depends on who you go with. They charge way too much for their quality lashes as well i go to highland park and get them and shes also a boujee place as well but reasonably priced and they last me 3 solid weeks even washing my face daily and running under water in shower. At least 6 women were walking around, touching stuff with their masks under their noses. I was floored. Unless they get stricter with enforcement on customers, I won't be back. Very Disappointed. I've been going to Salon Bliss for years now. I finally got the courage to get extensions put in. The cost in total was close to $ 600. The girl that provided the service ordered the hair and set up an appointment to install. After all the extensions were put in it looked great.. till two weeks later I woke up to a full row of hair hanging on my shoulder and I had a half hour to get to work. I contacted Salon Bliss and they mentioned they were booked solid and couldn't get me in till next week... I explained my situation and how ridiculous this looked, and still there was nothing they could do. When I finally did get in the girl mentioned not to worry that this was common and put it back in. A week later as I prepared for my trip down to Florida, the row fell out again... they were unable to get me in so I had to remove the remaining row on my own. As the story goes each week more pieces were falling out, and my hair looked as though I had dread locks... This was an absolute horrible experience. When I contacted the manager and told her I was a client for many years and wanted to see if they would credit me on any of the services they did, she said no... and she was sorry it did not fit into my life style??? Are you kidding me.... lol. She mentioned she would speak with the owner which not surprised never got a return call. When first walking into SB I noticed how chaotic it was in the building with the amount of customers that were their waiting. The front desk lady was the one and only positive I had going there. While I was getting a full set of acrylics done, it was quite awkward considering my nail technician barely made conversation and seemed quite annoyed. After waiting roughly 3 hours for her to finish my nails, I noticed how burned the skin surrounding my nails were from the nail file she used. They should really consider getting an electric filer. To add on top of all that, my tech only added two coats of polish onto my nails, leaving it transparent in the sunlight. Really disappointed considering I paid a little over $100 for the set. Not to mention that one of my nails broke due to how thin they were after only having them for a week. Really disappointed, save your money and go to a cheaper salon. read more

I spent $250 on my appointment: color/cut/eyebrow wax. I'm a hairstylist so I know going from brunette to blonde can not always go the way you want it to. that being said, the stylist only lightened the front half of my head and slapped a toner on the back which had heavy red undertones. next the haircut, it literally looked like someone took their kitchen scissors and hacked away at my hair. she did not listen to a single thing I said and on top of it all, I emailed the salon multiple times and its been six weeks since my appointment - still no response. Let me start out by saying that I, myself, have never had a bad experience at Salon Bliss. Having said that, however, my review is written after what I've seen done to my daughter's hair not once but twice! Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me! Will never go back to Salon Bliss (and we had been going for years). My daughter had an absolutely horrendous cut a couple of years ago. I was so shocked at what I saw that I asked a member of the staff (and emailed the owner) asking if the stylist was on drugs. Another stylist took an hour to fix the cut! They did give her a $100 gift card but this doesn't make up for an unwanted shorter hair style. The second experience was just a few weeks ago. My daughter went in for a color as hers was growing out. She told the stylist she wanted a darker color as she wanted to start going back to her natural honey brown (she had light highlights and was a bit on the blonde side). It appeared to be ok when finished. This was a birthday present from me and came to $180 (w/o) tip. However, after a couple of shampoos (color stay shampoo from the Salon), it was very, very obvious the stylist (a different one) once again botched the job. It looked as though a bowl had been placed on her head! The top and bottom did not match at all. My daughter went to Tricocci University in Libertyville and for $45 got a color correction. Much, much, much better and a student stylist at that! I'm not sure what's going on at Salon Bliss and wonder if the owner even cares enough to observe the stylists throughout the day. I just remembered another incident at Salon Bliss so I guess I have had a bad experience (not terrible but another example to share). I had an appointment for a brow wax. Checked in and was directed to the spa. They forgot about me and after a half hour of waiting, I asked reception if I was going to be seen. Oops! The technician had gone to lunch! Accountability at Salon Bliss is lacking. Update: 10/22/15 -- Finally spoke to someone at the salon. Took four calls before a call back was received. One excuse was that the phone number on file for me didn't work. Worked fine when they would call me to confirm appts. Anyway, spoke to Judith (Judy) who asked me what the call was in regards to! She knew by my msg and my review on the salon's FB page (and a follow up to my review). I told her that I would like my money refunded. She said no and that I was blocked from FB (guess only good reviews are allowed - so much for integrity), and that I was harassing her/the salon! And in fact would contact the police if further contact was made. I posted a review on FB, a follow up in which she responded on FB she would call. When I did not receive a call, I called and had to call four times before getting a call. No harassment -- just a customer wanting satisfaction/money ($180) back. Bottom line, the customer is not important to this salon. read more

I only get my long hair cut maybe twice a year and I don't mind paying a little more here cuz I can trust her not to hack me! I like going here, but ya do gotta' find the stylist that suites YOU that you can trust. I would never ever go again to a Super Cuts or Great Clips where they are basically in training still and do not care etc... Salon Bliss is a bit more price but SAFE and professional care! Extremely disappointed... called to get a glycolic peel to help with my mild acne. No one informed me that I should stop taking my prescription acne medication before I have the facial. I go to my appointment and the woman starts to cleanse my face while asking questions about any medication I'm on. As soon as I tell her about my acne medicine, she stops. She said she can't do anything because it may risk having major irritation to my face later. Which I totally understand... the safety of the customer is the most important. However, this could have been avoided if the front staff were more knowledgeable. The woman was kind enough to speak with her manager and provide me with a discount for my next service with her but I don't think I'll be back. Melanie is amazing - so amazing that sometimes it is hard to get in to see her if you don't book in advance (which is a good thing). She always picks my color for me and has a smile on her face. She has a great attitude and takes pride in her work. Anytime i have ventured out and let someone else paint my nails, i have been more than disappointed. Avoid the owner - she is very pushy with trying to sell products you don't need. I think the hydra facial is over priced - 30 minutes @ $150 - ouch. Not worth the price. I started going to Salon Bliss about 6 years ago. I had a seriously horrible haircut experience somewhere else and I was so traumatized that I began calling everyone and everywhere to see if someone had an immediate opening to fix it. Salon Bliss did and the stylist I got was on top of her game and fixed me right up. She was down to earth and didn't have that cheap Kim Kardashian aura about her like many of the other stylists there. I ended up going back to this same girl for many years, but she since has left. A few times I had to use other stylists when I couldn't coordinate my schedule with my preferred girl. Rosalia (sp) was a fill in a few times and was very nice and did a good job. There were a few other stylists I tried who were friendly, but I didn't think their haircut was good enough for the prices being charged. I saw another user's comment that this salon tries to be a high-end urban salon and I feel the same, but honestly, the environment, stylists, and services don't quite deserve the pricing they seem to think they're worthy of. One time I even let my young daughter get her nails done and the polish literally peeled off the next day (pretty sure I paid $25-30 for that kid manicure, too). I went back the next day and they did repaint them at no charge, but still. I've never had nail polish do that before. Unfortunately, a few months ago I tried to make a hair appointment and that's when I learned that my go-to girl left. I decided to take a shot with someone new. They booked me with Andrea. I looked at the pictures they have online recently to see if she's still there. I didn't find an Andrea, just Ondrea, and I think Ondrea may be her, but I'm not positive as this was a while ago and if it was Ondrea, she sure looked like a train wreck the day I was there compared to her pic online. Anyway, in the 20+ years I've been visiting "higher end" salons, Andrea/Ondrea was the most unprofessional stylist I have ever worked with. She was rude, patronizing, and downright mean. I expressed to her that I wanted some direction with the style and what to do (I wanted something different) and she was incredibly unhelpful and resistant. She said she can't tell me what to do because I may not like it. I get that in a way, but if I'm going to pay for a salon cut, I expect salon service, including a professional opinion from an artisan hair stylist. If Salon Bliss can't provide that level of service, then they're not a salon. I may as well go to Cost Cutters and pay $15 for a cut for that type of service. The stylist then proceeded to argue with me about hair styling terms and became irritated when I didn't know the proper term for a cutting technique. She argued with me and literally seemed to intentionally avoid all possible techniques I was referencing. As I tried to give her some direction as to what I liked she was abrupt and began commenting on how thin my hair was (like literally sounded disgusted) and how it wasn't possible to do what I wanted with my hair. I wanted to literally smack the shit out of her at this point but I kept it classy. I finally just said, trim my hair, give me layers in the front (which really wasn't what I was looking for as I wanted a new style and was PAYING for a stylist, not a trim). I sat in dead silence for the 20 minutes she cut my hair. I have never, ever been treated so rudely by a person providing a service to me. I don't expect preferential treatment or ass-kissing, but like all people, I expect human decency. If you're in a bad mood and your life sucks, then take some time off work. She sure looked and acted like she needed it. If it wasn't for my prefered stylist I regularly saw, I probably wouldn't have continued business with Salon Bliss for as long as I did. Now that she's gone and I had that last horrible experience with Andrea/Ondrea, I won't be going back....ever. The owners can thank Andrea/Ondrea for that. She was the final straw. read more
