Shout out to Maddie for making my hair look spectacular on my Wedding Day. I got married this past Saturday March 29th 2025. My sister scheduled my appointment months in advance, she lives in TN. Cristi used to frequent this salon, back when she lived in IL. I live in WI and honestly just thought my sister would end up doing my hair. She made appointments for us and requested the best person, to do my hair, for my special day. I rarely do anything with my hair. I didn't even have a picture to show, or anything special to suggest. I just told Maddie do whatever you think will look good. I really wanted to utilize my long hair somehow and put up the sides. I brought special rhinestone barrettes that she placed in the back of my hair. The salon was so wonderful they gifted me the best keychain with a ring attached to it, it's beautiful and will hold my car keys. I also loved how the music playing in the background. It was all wedding songs while I was getting my hair done. It brought such a smile to my face and was so thoughtful. My first dance at my wedding was even played, At Last by Etta James. That was pure coincidence since they didn't know that. We also had fake eyelashes put on too and that was absolutely something I will do again. I was in the chair until close to 9pm when someone rushed over to do my mani and pedi. She did a poor job and sent me out the door with very wet nails because they were closing. Of course they smeared while trying to pay and walk to my car. NEVER AGAIN! They were super over priced on everything and have zero expertise. read more

I went in for a 3 color service. As in 3 very different colors - including copper, a pinkish burgundy, and dark brown. I had several pictures. Instead of the thicker 90s style highlights pieces to allow for clear areas of each color, they layered the highlights so small you couldn't actually pick out any single color unless you were standing directly next to me putting your fingers through my hair. It ended up looking like a vibrant single color palette. To top it off the stylist added "money pieces" to the front. I HATE money pieces, and would have told her that if she'd asked before adding them on her own . I cried. I came back to a 'higher level' stylist. I didn't know how to explain what was wrong, other than everything. It looked NOTHING like the pics I'd shared. She conferred with another 'high level' stylist and they tried to gaslight me into believing the color service I got was what I asked for. The slapped a pinkish glaze to tone down the brightness (it was ORANGE instead of the copper) and added some lowlights to break up the money pieces. I cried for weeks every single time I looked in the mirror. It was horrible, the color was wrong (think full head of strawberry blonde) the style of highlight was wrong. I didn't want ANY kind of blonde in my hair, but that's what I ended up with. The worst part of it was that NO ONE listened, respected my requests or opinions, and they actually tried to gaslight me into believing it's what I asked for. Literally told me "oh, it's got great dimension. The model pics you've shown are the same color that's in your hair, it's just that her hair is curled and the lighting is different." The model had no blonde. It was a copper, a pinkish red, and dark brown combo. Listening to them talk to me like I was stupid was so upsetting. Just disgusting. My entire years worth of hair budget - over $400 - for a HORRIBLE experience. I'll never go back. You can't fix that level of disappointment. read more

All the ladies here are super nice and friendly. I've gotten my brows down here multiple times and nails done a few as well. My brow girl does an amazing job and never fails. I have been an Octagon client for many years- I keep coming back because of the professional atmosphere and excellent results that I have received. As a matter of fact- I have treated "special" persons in my life to pampering at the Octagon! Each person has loved the experience. The stylist I had seemed to be poorly trained. I showed her a photo of what I wanted after growing out my hair for 4 months and she said she'd use a 4 guard and then go down to a 2. None of this lingo makes any sense to a client. Sorry I didn't go to hair school, drop the guard lingo. She starts cutting my hair extremely short and I ask her is their a reason ur cutting it so short and her response was the hair needs to grow into the style. This didn't sit right I asked another stylist there and she said it definitely wasn't right. Now I start the process all over again.. They ended up refunding me but none of that replaces the 4 months it took me to grow my hair out and that was the bare minimum they could do. Won't be going back. read more

The stylist was nice, but she had places to be at 6 so the service felt extremely rushed, she kept asking other stylists for help getting stuff done with my hair and there wasn't enough time for my hair cut I also had scheduled. The overall experience felt like I was a bother. I told the front desk and all they did was make excuses. And suggested I make an appointment for my hair cut. All together I spent $375 and didn't enjoy it one bit. I will have to get my hair cut somewhere else. And any other hair color service. *Update* so my scalp ended up getting a chemical burn but the owner is offering me special shampoo/conditioner, she's going to pay my doctor/medication bill (if I get anything) and is offering free deep conditioning moisturizing treatments till my hair is back to healthy again. I went in to get a simple layered haircut. My instructions were to keep my length in the back. I showed the stylist 3 pictures and gave clear examples of what was too short. She did not follow instructions at all and cut my hair way too short claiming that she was following the picture exactly. I was at the desk trying not to cry or appear angry but it was clear that I was unhappy. The senior stylist admitted that the cut was completely wrong. I gave her the Martina McBride pic and got the old lady haircut instead. They refunded my money, although I should have walked away without being charged for this awful cut. read more

Bad experience.... I was looking for a new colorist and decided I would go with what I thought was Octagon's best colorist Evie. How I came to that conclusion is they are on a level scale. She was the only one at a level 7 the highest achievable in the salon. I made my first appointment for a partial foil with a toner I believe it was August. I was so incredibly happy with my results well worth money spent. I then scheduled a second appointment for the end of October for both a full foil and toner. Unfortunately my results at this appointment were very disappointing. I got my hair done on October 27th and was leaving for the Cayman Islands on November 1st. My hair was over processed which caused breakage. I did not have time to go back to the salon before my vacation. My stylist that does my hair cuts as well as Keratin treatments threw a quick olaplex treatment on my hair before I left . I went back and forth about contacting octagon at all. I finally did and it was weeks and weeks later mid December I believe it was. I was so happy with my first experience that I wanted to give her a second chance. instead of just not returning. I had an appointment with Evie the second weekend in January and wanted her to look at my hair to make sure that it was healthy enough to color. When I received no reply via email or telephone I followed up again. Evie did call me the day after I contacted the salon for the second time. When she called she told me this was the first message she got that's why she hadn't called. Well I think an apology for not getting back to me sooner do to lack of communication between her and her staff would have been appreciated as well as comforting.I explained to her that I had to have an olaplex treatment as well as a keratin treatment four or five weeks earlier than I normally would do. She at that point completely dismissed my concern and told me my hair was dry because it was winter not the color because she only used 20 volume peroxide and that would not cause breakage. She had an assistant helping with my hair as she had three heads of hair going at one time. Being as the assistant had to wait for her to check the foils it took longer than it should have. That means product was on my hair longer than it should have been. Okay I am aware that your hair loses moisture in Winter however I use good product( Keratin Complex, pureology, Aveda) and do a deep conditioning treatment on my hair once a week. 35 years of having my hair highlighted I've never had this much "winter breakage". She made me feel very small. All I wanted her to do was examine the condition of my hair. I asked for no refund of the $190 I spent on the full foil as well as the olaplex treatment and the keratin treatment that I had to get so early. I just wanted her to confirm the condition of my hair was okay to color. Instead of getting an answer of absolutely I want you to come in so I can look at it she completely brushed me off she did tell me that she would be on next Thursday Friday and Saturday if I really wanted her to look at it. I was very taken back by the tone of the phone call in general. I told her no need for you to look at it I guess it's just my fault for the breakage she said okay thanks. That was the end of our conversation. As a hairdresser and partial owner of the salon I would think her customer service skills would have been much much better. Long story short I will not be returning to the salon nor will I recommend the salon to anyone again. They did get three new clients do to my recommendation. Shame on me for not getting back to them sooner shame on them for completely dismissing my concern. I've attached photos. read more

I booked a last minute appointment on a Monday night, and was so pleasantly surprised with the haircut and style. Wow! Wow! I had just removed Ktip extensions and had a gnarly mess of short and long strands on my head. Along came Candice, her magic hands and her encouraging words. Not only did she tame the strands, but she cut my hair in a very complementary style. Candice even trained me in how to style my hair, and how to best condition my hair. All around - awesome experience. It turns out my regular colorist - at a different salon - couldn't stop complimenting my hair. My colorist is going to give Candice a call to schedule an appointment. They were initially very apologetic and were able to provide me with a list of the ingredients used to determine what caused it, and I was told I'd get a call from the manager-never did. read more

I have gone to octagon over the past decade (not constantly but I have gone there at least 5 times) and I have always had a friendly stylist. This past time unfortunately I had a terrible stylist. As soon as she saw me she said "ugh you have really curly hair" and once she sat me down she stated I have a color and cut going so I won't be able to style or blow dry you hair which I told her okay that's fine. While she but my hair she asked if I was a certain ethnicity and then said I bet you get mistaken for being biracial. I said yeah sometimes, she the when through my trim very quickly. I was in and out of the chair within 25 minutes and this included a wash and cutting my curly hair and she stated that she doesn't have very many curly hair clients (which worried me because my haircut was so quick). I was so uncomfortable the entire appointment and I had never felt more embarrassed because I have curly hair, although she complemented my curly hair but she still made me bad. I really like the salon and I was super bummed out by this really awful stylist and her chair side manner. 3 stars because all of the other stylists are great. read more

This salon is absolutely beautiful inside! The staff is really friendly as well. I came here for the first time during the summer and Melissa cut about 14 inches off my hair and she was phenomenal! She even gave me a tour of the whole place and introduced me to other stylists. Since I had such a great first impression, I decided to come back for my birthday this month to get a wash and style with a different stylist because Melissa wasn't available. The second time with Jai was OK. I have really thick hair but keep in mind... 14 inches shorter so I didn't think I was asking for much as her last client. I asked for soft waves and I came out with full curls on only the outer part of my head. Since it was so thick she didn't even touch my hair underneath the big curls. I paid $40 for something I could have done better myself. And I'm still wondering why my wash and style was more expensive than my haircut... Long story short, go see Melissa! read more

I just came from my first appointment with Candice and my very first visit with this spa. I rarely go to salons because I am extremely picky and become very frustrated when I don't get what I ask for. Candice did a FANTASTIC job and I could not be happier!! The location is convenient, the place very beautiful and neatly kept. The staff was friendly and professional. I walked right into my appointment (no booking issues), and felt my stylist made ample time for everything I needed done. She took the time to really understand what I wanted, giving constant feedback and asking me questions to ensure we were on the same page. After we itemized everything I'd need she was very clear about pricing from the get-go (no surprises), and while she made some helpful product suggestions, I never felt like she was adding unnecessary extras or upselling. My cut was EXACTLY what I asked for, and I appreciated that she made all the tweaks I requested. The caramel highlights, which at any other salon always come out as some BS blonde shade I didn't ask for, were right in the money. It's an ok salon. REALLY pricey. Over $200 for a FEW highlights and color is a little too much. My stylist Renni was OK. Nothing special. Everything was going fine but then she asked if I could come back for the cut the next day because she had an appointment and was really tight. I said that definitely was not gonna work for me since I live 2 1/2 hrs away and I was visiting the area. So she got someone to dry my hair while she did some color. Not the best impression when I had booked my appointment a month in advance. So she was in this huge rush to get done with me, tugging and pulling my hair and she was in such a rusch she got the comb stuck in my cartilage ear piercing... OMG I about cried. Awesome! A real salon where men and women are welcome! Honestly, I avoided this salon since about 6 years ago when there was a show on Bravo called Split Ends which featured the Octagon with all of this dysfunction, infighting, and daily morning prayer circles. I was sure that I'd feel uncomfortable in the environment. All I can say is that reality TV isn't reality. These people are very professional and friendly. The atmosphere is modern and bustling. The space has a contemporary ebony and white decor, which I love. The windows on the back salon room open onto a beautiful green ravine. It's luxe. Plenty of guys come here, too, so men don't have to feel intimidated. I used to be spoiled by Sportclips $21 haircuts. Then they changed their stylists. I felt like if the haircut wasn't satisfactory it was my fault because the stylists asked me about every detail of the cut. Newsflash: I'm not a stylist! That's why I want a professional! This is full service. Men's cuts are $35, which given how precise the finishing is, the overall level of service, and the professionalism of the staff, is a real bargain. I really thought you'd have to pay upwards of $100 for this. There are little details which make a difference, like a text reminder that my appointment is in two hours ahead, or asking me for a beverage while I wait, or asking me if I like my water cooler or warmer when they wash it (which, by the way, they do before AND after the cut). Then there's the amazingly knowledgeable and professional Sophia who really knows her craft. She also cleans up all of my facial hair including my eyebrows, sideburns, ears, and mustache. She's one of maybe 30 or so stylists who work there, so I got lucky. What's different now is that I can't walk in. Maybe one day I'll try a massage or a facial. I would NOT recommend this salon to anyone; they are completely unprofessional, especially the owner Janelle. I had orginally came in for an eyelash perm, and yes it did come out to be nice and curly for a couple hours. To my dismay, what was suppose to last 4 weeks lasted only 4 hours. I called back to ask for a refund and all i got was a completely rude owner and UNPROFESSIONAL OWNER . For anyone searching for a location for an eye lash perm, save yourself 45 dollars and go to a more upscale salon where they are at least more respectful towards their customers. read more
