I would like to preface this review with the fact that I am typically not picky about haircuts, and I don't usually get upset very easily. Not to say that I am upset, just very, very disappointed. Furthermore, If I leave with something that isn't 100% meeting my expectations, I usually adapt and life goes on. However, every time I look in the mirror I find myself disappointed with my hair after getting it cut a few days ago Anyways, I have been getting my hair haircut at Salon Blu for about three years now. Overall, it is a great experience and I usually leave happy with my hair. The stylists are always super friendly and we have pleasant conversations during. It is worth mentioning that this salon has staff who have different experience levels. I have always chosen or been placed with a stylist with a high experience level, but this time I chose to take a gamble and go with someone at a "level 1"... this was where I went wrong. We had a great conversation, and I told her the exact haircut that I wanted- just a simple medium length cut with lots of layers (I had long hair). Additionally, I provided about five reference photos of the exact haircut that I wanted. I figured the haircut would be simple enough to replicate. I told her verbatim "please just not too short". I expected that she would deliver the haircut that I wanted with the information I provided and the photos. This was not the case.... my idea of a medium length haircut was erased and replaced with essentially a "long bob" ... which is very short... about 4 inches shorter than what I asked for. I really wish that she had followed my instructions of where I wanted it to be cut at. I think that she did not have enough experience and didn't consider the fact that wet hair appears much shorter once it is dry. Another item that I did not care for was that my typical 45 minute haircut took her an hour and a half to complete. I do not mind the fact that she took her time, so much as that she cut my hair entirely too short despite knowing that I wanted a medium length like the photos. I will be honest and just say it outright: my hair looks hideous now :( I left the salon feeling very sad and disappointed- only clinging to the fact that hair grows back. Despite being super upset about my hair, I will continue to go to the salon blu, but I highly recommend that anyone who goes to this place chooses a stylist at a high level. Lesson learned read more

I had my balayage done by Felicity and overall left feeling disappointed with the experience. I wish there had been more transparency and communication throughout the process regarding what result was realistically achievable. I came in wanting a lighter, cooler-toned balayage and showed an inspo photo of hair she had previously done herself. However, the final result turned out much warmer/orangier than expected. I completely understand the complexity of coloring and bleaching and that results may not always turn out exactly as planned. I was never told before, during, or after the appointment that my hair had not lifted enough to achieve the desired tone until I reached out afterward myself. After contacting the salon, the corrective option offered was a darker glaze/toner, which wasn't really the direction I wanted to go, so I decided not to do it because I wasn't confident it would achieve the result I was hoping for. read more

Disappointed with Salon Blu - Gift Card Policy is Unacceptable I'm incredibly disappointed with my recent experience at Salon Blu in Raleigh, NC. I had a valid gift card that was purchased in good faith, but the salon refused to honor it due to a change in ownership. It's frustrating--and frankly unfair--that a business can continue operating under the same name and reputation, yet refuse to take responsibility for previous commitments made to loyal customers. This kind of treatment feels dishonest and leaves a bad impression. Be warned: If you buy a gift card here, there's no guarantee it will be accepted in the future--especially with how often ownership seems to change. The next time, and my last, I had one argument after another with the same stylist. She wanted to add fringe around my face, I said no. She said I needed it and got grumpy when I said NO. Kala H. ruined my years of hard work of blonde hair on long, thick, and curly texture. I asked for LITTLE dimension, & particularly on my ends. Her assistant Leslie G is my witness. However Kala's her mentor, so who knows if she'll be honest. I specifically asked for very little.Yet, she did so much and got rid of soo much of my blonde. I'm now brunette. Definitely did NOT ask for this. I even showed her ex pics (last 4) of what I wanted in reference to dimension ONLY not tonality, since they're much cooler in tone than my warmer hair. These pics showed dimension BUT still an overall BLONDE look. Yet she still failed. I realized this after I arrived home since I left with wet hair, didn't want it blow dried. I called immediately and told her. She told me to go back 5 days later, which was unreasonable to wait this long considering there's an issue. When I showed her, of course she refused to admit her horrible mistake and used every excuse possible to deny it. She used my constant visits against me & said I went in 5 diff times, which was completely irrelevant and hypocritical b/c she specifically told me to go in as many times as I needed for a consult since I was nervous from the previous experience prior going to her. And 2 of those visits were SERVICES, that she got PAID and tipped for!!! & the last one was b/c of her idiotic mistake where she washed out all my blonde. The previous visit had been paid for & over with & now dealing w/ another visit. So not sure y even mention it.. just wanting to exaggerate. Also consults come with a service!!! I had only two consults to obviously get help on figuring out how to adjust my hair. This is her job, but she wants to complain about it. I asked for the manager & she called the next day, Heather O. And honestly after that call, it was really clear that she only called for technical purposes and to say that she fulfilled her "duty" as a manager. I told her what happened. All she said was repeated what Kala said & there's nothing she can do.This is w/out her even asking to see my HAIR nor pictures, nothing!!! Absolutely unbelievable.She wouldn't have seen any pics if I hadn't said anything. I sent her before/after pics, she got back to me 5 days later, which again, pretty late. So even if I wanted to take up the offer they provide per their policy, an adjustment upon dissatisfaction, I couldn't b/c the 7 day window was closed.They purposely respond late so they don't have to do any adjustments, very disturbing. Why offer a policy that you can't commit to.. Either way, I wouldn't have agreed to any adjustments due to the condition of my hair.What Kala did was irreversible. Heather wouldn't have gotten back to me if I hadn't kept calling the 5th day, which she ordered her front desk staff, Ryan S, Shelbie W, and Emma W, to ignore my calls completely. When Shelbie answered by mistake & found out it was me, she put me on hold then switched to voicemail.This wasn't a coincidence nor were they busy; when my friend called, they answered immediately, very disrespectful and childish. She responded back with pathetic excuses defending her worker and insisted that my ends were light.. Where...?? I absolutely did not ask for her to get rid of my blonde like this; didn't ask for this dark look. I asked her to comment specifically on the pics & I pointed out the obvious difference; she never responded. The website says to email for issues, but they ignore you. It says to contact the owner, Sara Davis on Linkedin as well, but she also didn't respond. You message these professionals & expect a response, but get nothing then they wonder why they have negative reviews. useless and careless when it comes to having to deal with a complaint. They do not handle their mistakes appropriately and with honesty. No wonder they have 4.5 stars only. Would not recommend. I'm glad the bank compensated me for that failed service. read more

Hi I have been a loyal client here for about 2 years! I met my perfect match Brandee at falls of neuse after a horrible hair bleaching that she not only fixed but turned into the results I wanted. She has now seen me through several hair changes and always delivers better than the picture not only that but she has managed to take me from a dark brown hair color to honey blonde in 2-3 sessions and my hair has never felt healthier. Additionally I am pretty lazy and I dont keep my roots maintained consistently but even after 3 months of hair growth the color still looks amazing and blended. Brandee is genuinely incredible at hair color, cuts, and is so kind and funny. She always matches my energy in terms of how much I am up for talking and on the days that I am we always have good convos. I had one of the most unprofessional experiences I've ever had at Salon Blu. I went in with clear expectations and showed a reference photo of the blonde I wanted. At no point was I told that what I booked (a partial foil) would not achieve the result I was asking for. As the professional, it was the stylist's responsibility to communicate that -- not mine to guess. Instead, she glazed my hair to be even darker than it was before, and I left with brassy, brown, patchy hair that still showed lines from my old color. When I reached out about my concerns, instead of apologizing or taking any accountability, they completely dismissed me. I was told I'd have to pay even more to "fix" the problem they created. I was made to feel like this was somehow my fault, which is absolutely ridiculous. The salon refused to offer a refund and treated the situation like a "he said, she said," refusing to acknowledge how bad the result actually was. The owner couldn't even be bothered to get on the phone with me -- unbelievably unprofessional. I wasted my time, my money, and now have to go pay someone else to fix my hair. I feel completely gaslit and disrespected by this entire experience. Save yourself the frustration and stay far away from Salon Blu. I got a cut and glaze done with Grace. The picture I showed the stylist for reference was a much lighter shade than the Glaze color I ended up with. Thankfully, I still like this color on me, but I wouldve prefered to have had the color I asked for. What really disappointed me was when she thinned out my face framing layers with sheers without asking because she thought it was necessary, after she had just asked to thin out the back and I told her NO. I do not like having my hair thinned out because my natural texture hair gets extremely frizzy without the weight, which has happened when other stylists have sheared this area. I worked with stylist Jayme. She wasn't able to achieve the look I was asking. She told me to contact her if I wasn't happy and when I contacted her the following day to ask for a simple correction, she wanted to charge me full price for the correction. She told me that she couldn't understand the vision for my hair and was unwilling to help me. I do not recommend working with such an unprofessional stylist and its an embarrassment that she works for Salon Blu. She is a young immature 25 year old who needs to work on her constructive criticism when working with clients. I have been a customer at Salon Blu for over 5 years and would always tip exceptionally well. I would not recommend booking a service here. I booked an appointment a week ahead of time, and they called me 2 hours before my appointment to let me know they had to cancel. Apparently another appointment ended up taking longer than expected. They said I could leave with wet hair, or book the next week with a completely different stylist. They need to let earlier appointments know that they cannot complete a different service than what was originally scheduled, rather than cancelling later appointments. I scheduled my entire day around a 4pm appointment, simply for it to be cancelled so they could prioritize another appointment that was different than what was scheduled. I was offered a 20% discount on my next service, but I will not be rescheduling with this salon. read more

I booked my appointment with Lauren but my hair was mainly done by this other girl that I think was her assistant, the assistant was very kind and attentive. Lauren on the other hand not so much but that's the least of it, I just wanted to get and pay for what I asked for that's all! But she literally put like 6 strips of bleach on my head in a time frame of like 8 minutes and charged me $187 for that.... When on their website it says a half balayage is $119. First I got my scalp burned under some VERY hot water which made me jump from my chair. They stylist fixed it and apologized sincerely and was super nice. My first haircut was nice but nothing special. For my second haircut, I challenged them with something unusual I could not find a photo of. I feel I was not given enough time or regard in my explanation, and I don't feel like I was heard. I figured these high-end stylists had enough vision and creativity for what I wanted and could make it look great. I sure as hell PAID enough for it. She did not spend very much time shredding my hair - 15 minutes tops. The cut looked OKAY when she got done, but when I got home, washed it and saw it raw I HATED it so bad I cried. Cut unevenly, too heavy on top rear, too short on the lowest layers, too long on lower sides and too short on upper sides Could not style it to look good - not cute, sexy, sporty, fun, pretty, or cool... just stupid looking. I tried to make it work for 4 days but had to call and tell them I was unhappy with it. They got me in right away to fix it but the guy backed up my original stylist saying "I would have cut it the same" and that for what I wanted to do to it, it was just too heavy in the back, so he fixed a small part of that. I wish he would have fixed it a LOT more but it IS much better... still hate it. Wished I would have just gone to SmartStyle at Wal-Mart and spent the other $35 tipping them for a great $15 haircut! The guy did show me a cool product called Wax Blast and I bought some for an overpriced $20 but it works and smells good. I won't be back though. Other note: I feel that my stylist had enough talent to do what I wanted, but just didn't care to take the time to do it well and focus on details, and also didn't let me describe it in enough detail or ask the right questions. I received hair extensions from Erika Crane. I needed them removed because they were itching my head and hurting my scalp. They could not fit me in for an appointment. I was very gracious about it. They told me to call other salons. So I did. I posted on Facebook it was so itchy I was going to cut them out myself. My friends said "noooo let a professional do it". So my next post was "i found a professional to remove my extensions"- Meaning I wasn't doing it myself. Erika who was on my social media- misinterpreted the posts to mean she wasn't a professional. Not what I meant. She showed the VP of operations of the salon my posts. I got the a weird email from her stating my appointment was cancelled. I called and she said Erika didn't want to provide any further services to me because of my rude Facebook posts. Here let me show you..... oh and they are refusing to give me back the rest of the hair I bought that is being kept there. The email: I am writing to inform you that we have cancelled your May 17th appointment with Erika at our North Hills location for an extensions move up since you will no longer have extensions. We are sorry we could not accommodate your request to have your extensions removed this week. We did see your facebook post and hope that the salon you booked with will provide you with what you are looking for. We wish you well at your new salon! I've gotten several mediocre haircuts from Salon Blu, but my most recent visit was the worst. I was wearing a fine leather sweater jacket and my stylist, Clarky Davis, completely chopped up the leather on the shoulders during the cut. I contacted the salon with photos and they denied it and then did not respond to my follow up emails. If they simply checked their surveillance footage, they would see the leather was in perfect condition when I walked in, and cut up when I walked out. But they are not responsive at all. I went straight home after the haircut and noticed the leather immediately. It was over $100 and I'm devastated that Clarky ruined it. Do not go here! read more

I switched to this salon several years ago when I heard about the new Brazilian Keratin Treatment and my current salon was not offering it yet. My intention was to go to Salon Blu just for this treatment, but the stylist I was lucky enough to get in with was so good, I've never been back to my old salon! My stylist, Alison Lucarelli (ask for her!) is a senior stylist, so I definitely pay for her skills and experience, but my hair is something I don't mind splurging on every 6 weeks. It goes everywhere with me, after all! I love the color Alison put on my hair so much that it hasn't changed in years. I just recently had her cut my very long hair, shoulder length, which is generally an anxiety inducing event for any girl, but I wasn't nervous at all with Alison behind the shears and love it! Salon Blu has several locations. I started at the Falls of Neuse locale, but switched to their new(er) North Hills location when Alison went there. So... I was reluctant to post this review, as I'm still awaiting a resolution from Salon Blu, but I decided it was worth it to share my experience. I came here last year for an ombre. It was a bad ombre job that wasn't totally clear to me while I was still in the salon (my hair was still wet so the color didn't look as strong). By the time I went outside and eventually to my house, it was clear my hair was bright orange. And the transition between my normal black hair to the vibrant orange was barely there. Which means...my hair went from BLACK to ORANGE almost instantly (there was no "fade" effect" which is key in an ombre). I called Salon Blu and told them I wanted a refund. I spoke to a woman named Heather. She said they don't do refunds but that they could "redo" my hair. I told them I didn't want an ombre from them anymore (naturally...). After talking back and forth with various people, Heather called me back and said I'd have "credit" posted to my account for the amount my services were worth ($130-ish). I lived in NYC at the time so I figured the next time I came to Raleigh, I would hit up Salon Blu for some hair treatment. That day was two days ago, when I called to schedule a blow out using some of my credit. The woman I spoke to basically said I don't have credit posted to my account. And they wouldn't let me schedule an appointment using any of this promised credit. She said she'd need to talk to her VP, and I imagine we'll be doing this back-and-forth thing like we did originally. So I didn't schedule an appointment bc I'm not going to PAY again for services that I basically prepaid for. It's a shame they're not honoring the credit they promised me - at least for customer service. My take is, after my two encounters with Salon Blu, that you'll only have a good experience if your experience is easy/no problems. If you encounter problems (botched hair jobs, or maybe issues with payment, or maybe discrepancies in the charges) then you're in for a migraine. Doesn't seem like they care much about customer service and, to me, that's the most important thing in looking for a hair salon. read more

I have been going to salon blu for nine years. It upsets me to read so many negative reviews. I have been seeing Matt for nine years and I trust him with my hair. Matt has colored my hair every color from pink, red, orange, purple, blue, and blonde. There's never been a time where I walked out regretting what my hair looked like. He also does amazing hair cuts. I trust Matt to tell me what haircut will look good on me. As for the prices, you get what you pay for. I get so many compliments on my hair. I have found that salon blu has comparable prices to other salons in the area. My only complaint is the noise level about the North Hills location. The parking situation can be annoying, but that isn't salon blu's fault. read more
