They're so good! I've tried a handful of salons in Raleigh, and it's such a relief to finally find my go-to place!

I have been coming to Salon Blu for years. My original stylist was Dana! She is super sweet and amazing at what she does. She is a senior designer so she does a lot of training! A few of my favorites were Erin, Jonathan, and Sara and Sierra! They are all great stylists and super nice! After Dana had to take an emergency leave of absence last year I stated seeing Sierra as my stylist. I'm very happy with all her work and she is an awesome person all around! Their service fees are based on the stylists' design level. Excitingly Dana will be back in August! And btw my picture is after one of my colors with Sierra :) read more

I wish I could give this salon 0 stars, because I would. The first time I went to this salon was 5 years ago and it was so amazing that I went back 3 more times, but each time I went back was a nightmare experience. The receptionist was rude and hung up on me twice while I was trying to make an appointment, when I got there my stylist gave me a lot of grief about not sticking with the last stylist who did my hair (even though she did a horrible job and that's why I was trying someone else), I was wayy over charged the last three times I went, they cut my hair too short and the hair dye only stayed in my hair for two weeks. Please do not waste your time or money on this place. I've been getting my hair dyed professionally for over ten years and it may be the worst salon I've ever been to. read more

I have never once had a bad coloring...or at least one I thought was bad! I went in for dimensional highlights which I thought would be simple because I had just gotten some a couple months prior, but was touching up for an event. When I got home to blow dry my hair not only did I not see new highlights, but my old ones were gone and now all brown like the rest of my hair. I understand things happen with going to a new hairstylist and I should have not picked a salon for convenience, but this was the most I've ever paid for coloring and I've never been more unhappy. read more

I absolutely love this salon! I went in for thermal reconditioning (aka Japanese straightening) and Joy was amazing. As soon as I got there they asked me if I wanted a drink (soda, wine, or water) and through out the 5 hours there they constantly checked on me to see if i wanted any more. Yes..thermal reconditioning can take that long if you have long hair like mine!!! Joy made sure that I was comfortable the entire time and she paid attention to make sure that the process was going smoothly. Ive been to another salon before where the guy stopped in the middle of straightening my hair to help another client. All of the other stylist there were really nice and friendly as well which made the time there a lot better than sitting in silence. Some of them didnt really seem to know what they were doing, but Joy was just amazing. I am definitely taking my fiance there in a few weeks to get his hair cut for our wedding and will definitely go back! read more

I've been getting my hair cut by Liz at Salon Blu Falls Village for over 4 years. She is easily among the best stylists who has ever cut my hair. She is always attentive and responsive to any questions. She has provided great recommendations for hair products when my previous 2 were discontinued. She is always a joy to talk to. I look forward to catching up with her every few weeks. I highly recommend Liz as a dedicated stylist. The staff is also nice and calls to remind me about my appointments. Wow! What an amazing color expert I have found in Tara! If you're looking for a stylist who knows color inside and out, then Tara is your girl! I was very hesitant to try a new stylist since moving from Kentucky to the NC area when a friend of mine mentioned Tara. She knew I was looking for someone who was an expert in color and cut, and someone who would be honest with recommendations and a great listener as well. That is everything Tara is! She also cut my mid length hair into an amazing pixie cut! I have been going back and forth for years on deciding on this big step and Tara made it easy! I am so pleased with the service, professionalism, cut, price, atmosphere and overall experience with salon blu. I called last minute to get an appointment as I always do when I decide I want a hair cut. They had a stylist available and very nicely explained their pricing system. I showed up early and was promptly greeted by Ashley my stylist. We sat and spoke about what I was looking for. She offered an extra service to condition my hair which I declined but would possibly do in the future. The conversation was great. She was respectful of when I was quiet and when I spoke. She took her time and rechecked everything to make sure it was even. I was nervous cutting off a large amount of hair. I couldn't be happier. She listens to exactly what you want. I even scheduled an appt for 8 weeks out which is something i rarely do. Like i said i am a last minute person when i get my hair cut but i can't wait to go see Ashley again. Thank you!!! read more

Go see Becca at Salon Blu off Falls of Neuse. She asked me tons of questions and made sure she knew exactly what I wanted. I showed her a couple pics and she showed me some pics and together we came to an agreement about what I was looking for. I'm very very happy. I went from long hair almost to my butt, to really short hair and I was so scared. I feel confident and happy and on top of the world right now. Reasonable prices, great service, comfy atmosphere. I was a customer at Salon Blu for 5 years. My last experience was horrific. I was left with color for a root touch for over an hour. The stylist didn't have the decency to check on me... she had a young man come over to wash my color out bcause she was involved with another client. When I was finished she did greet me at the receptionists counter to pay.. receive her tip and asked when would be good to book my next appt. I find that rude, unprofessional and extremely lacking in customer service. There are a few stylists I would definately recommend with professionalism and superb 1:1 attention and satisfaction. This was the first salon I ever got highlights at, after calling around to numerous places to see how much it would cost to have my long, very thick hair done. The woman I spoke to seemed so nice and knowledgable, that I decided to go in for a consultation. After asking if I had used a boxed dye (yes), the stylist said that she would not be able to give me blonde highlights without a primer. Since I was unaware and uninformed, and I was already in the chair, I agreed to have it done, and the stylist went to work. The highlights came out well, though they were a bit thinner than I preferred, but I was shocked when I heard how much my bill was: $140, before tip, for a partial highlight and a $30 "primer"?!? Having gone to Mitchell's Academy, I now know that 1) you do NOT need a primer before you get highlights (Did she mean a filler? A total waste of money?) and 2) some stylists are only disgusted by and/or afraid of boxed dyes, because they don't want to correct the uneven results of a one-size fits all approach and an inexperienced hand putting dye in his or her own hair, and because it takes money out of their pockets. It's mostly the latter. If you want highlights for a reasonable price, go to Master Cuts at Triangle and get their 7 foils for $25-$30. You can add more for foils for not much more if that's not enough. And, as an added bonus, you don't have to listen to the hipster, rap-dance music mix blaring over the radio while you wait for your 'lights to process. Win-win. read more

ok....so i'm a dude, and i'm writing a review for a salon. why you ask? i have no idea. but, i'm going to do it anyway. after a run of roughly 2 haircuts in 18 months, i decided it was time to chop the locks. so, i looked for a place that seemed worthy of my time and $$$. salon blu received some positive reviews i found elsewhere, so i thought it might be worth a try. heres the breakdown: pros: 1) they actually do cut hair, which is what i set out to do. 2) the price was very moderate from what i remember. C) pretty much all chicks that work there. iv) easy enough to get an appointment. 5) convenient location. cons: A) not enough hot chicks! 2) don't remember being offered any beer or wine. iii) 2) could have made up for A). i would, and will go back for another cut. see them in another year or so! read more

I am leaving this review for Liz and Salon Blu after my third visit to date this week. I am impressed with the professionalism of all of the staff I have interacted with at Salon Blu, and the atmosphere is great. I called two days ahead of my appt. to let Liz know I wanted to do all over color instead of highlights as before. Unfortunately the fact that I wanted to go lighter got miscommunicated into I wanted to go darker. Of course the process of getting everything a lot lighter took A LOT more time. However, Liz didn't skip a beat and between her and her lovely assistant Quentin took care of me as well as several other clients while I was being processed. My visit was approx. two hours more than it would have been because of the extra stuff that had to be done, but I was never left sitting idly, nor did it disprupt her other clients. They kept it moving right along and were lovely. And my color is what I was looking for! Thank you Liz and Salon Blu! My only con at all is that they are on the pricey side, but Liz makes it a point of letting me know upfront what I'm looking at so there is no sticker shock. I do not think Salon Blu is out of line with any of the other upper scale salons I have been to in Raleigh. I'm happy! read more

Don't judge a book by its cover. This place may seem very upscale and high quality due to the location in North Hills. Inside you will find mediocre hair stylists who want to charge you an arm and a leg for the semi- good quality. One of my friends who recommended me once paid around 250-300 dollars for a top stylist to do her hair. I stuck with a lower stylist and still ended up paying way more than I would have elsewhere. read more

Liz S. Liz S. October 07, 2013 Believe the terrible reviews. They are true. I recently relocated to Raleigh and Salon Blu wasn't far from my house, so I made an appointment for a trim and highlights. I was very happy with my current hairstyle of a slightly angled bob that fell just above my shoulders. I just needed it trimmed up a bit. A natural curly-head, I wore my hair straight the day I went in, but informed the stylist that my hair was actually very curly, and showed her a photo of myself with my hair curly so she could see. I told her what I wanted, showed her another photo of myself with the hairstyle I wanted (same as what I had but slightly shorter), and informed her that I did NOT want the front cut at all, just shortened up in the back a little, as I was trying to grow it out some. During the cut, I was turned away from the mirror so I didn't know anything was going wrong. As she was drying my hair, I still couldn't see myself in the mirror, but she made a few comments like "Oh, wow, your hair really IS curly." She must not have believed me or paid attention when I told her I had curly hair and showed her the picture of my curls. After my hair was completely dry, she spent an unusually long time continuing to cut. I started to become a little nervous as huge, long chunks of my hair kept falling into my lap and onto the floor. When she turned me toward the mirror after the cut and style, I had to fight back tears because it was NOTHING AT ALL like what I had asked for -- in fact, it was the opposite. She had not only shortened the back, but also cut the front pieces mouth-length and created some sort of fringy pieces around my face that made my hair look like a bowl. Because my hair had shrunk a good bit shorter after she cut it due to her not paying attention to the fact that I had curly hair, she had taken the thinning shears to my head and removed a very large amount of my hair so that it would lie flat against my head, I guess to save face for it being so short, and now completely poofy and ridiculous looking. I reminded her that I had not wanted the front shorter, and she explained that she had "no choice" but to cut it this short to even out the pieces in the front. She then had the gall to recommend hair extensions. I paid $250. When straight, my hair resembles a mullet. Wearing my hair curly is no longer an option because it looks like a clown wig when I do. I think it's important to note that this all happened almost four months ago, and I have tried to be kind and waited this long to write a bad review, hoping that I would like it better once it grew out some. But it's still a nightmare of a haircut and I have to take extra time every morning to strategically pin back pieces of my hair to conceal the too-short, uneven pieces and chunks of missing hair from where she took the thinning shears to my head. At one time I had really nice, voluminous, healthy hair that I was complimented on often. Now it's just a thinned out disaster. There was no fixing to the cut at the time because there was barely any hair left to fix, and there still isn't after 4 months. I went to another stylist recently and she told me there was really nothing she could do, but agreed that it was a very unfortunate cut, and told me it will take about a year for it to be normal again. I should have demanded a refund and didn't, but I think that my walking advertisement of a very poorly-done cut will speak for itself about this salon. I used to get compliments on my hair, and now friends have consistently commented that they "liked my hair the other way better" or ask what made me want to cut it this way. A lot of them ask who did this and I tell them I got it cut at Salon Blu. Just don't go here. It's overpriced, and they don't listen. I should have read all of these reviews before I went. To be fair, here are the pros: The girl who answers the phone is friendly and can schedule you in quickly. The stylist was friendly. The color job was good. read more

A few times I've had Becca as a stylist. She does a great job asking questions and actually listening to my answers -- seems basic, but so many stylists really don't listen! Even though I love how Becca does my hair, I'm considering never going back because of the front desk staff/customer service issues. There has been confusion about my appointment a few times even when they have called me to confirm it, and never an apology when that happens. I've left voice mail messages during normal business hours and once after hours and NOBODY EVER CALLS BACK -- EVER. When I call back and mention that I left a message and didn't receive a response, there's not only on apology, but they seem annoyed. I've heard the front desk person be rude to someone on the phone and I've seen several people congregate at the desk and talk with lots of snark about another stylist. Just not interested in the drama anymore. read more

I have had fantastic experiences at Salon Blu! I really like ALL the ladies there....they are all so friendly and make me feel very welcomed. I have had my hair highlighted and cut by Becca. I highly recommend her! She is a perfectionist and really cares about how you want your hair to turn out-spending time and energy talking to you first to make sure she understands your hair care goals. I have been following Becca's advice on hair care products and their use and am starting to see a real difference in my hair. She is amazing! read more

My teenaged daughter had a mishap last Sunday while trying to bleach her own hair. I called Salon Blu at Falls Village on Monday morning to see if they could help. We had never been seen here, but they were open that day and nearby. Immediately I was impressed. The receptionist on the phone was attentive and kind and I hung up feeling a little less hopeless. We were fortunate to get an appointment with Erin that afternoon. Actually, saying we were fortunate is an understatement because Erin went above and beyond! When we arrived, she assessed the situation and explained the options and prices. Not only did she correct the problem, but my daughter felt like for the first time ever, someone had listened to and heard what she wanted in regards to her hair color. this place absolutely blows beyond belief. i went to get a cut and color by a girl named tara. she totally screwed up my hair acted like a total arrogant snot, (everyone there was all high and mighty) and has no idea how to cut hair without using thinning shears. she was really late for our appointment, didn't have time to wash my hair, rushed through the cut and had someone else barely blow it out, it was still wet when i left. i received all of this great service for an arm and a leg. don't waste your time or money, just go somewhere else. read more
