Never again. I've tried Salon Cajj twice now for simple trims, and both times I left regretting my decision. The first time, I asked for 2-3 inches off the bottom. My hairdresser (I don't remember her name now) must have zoned out while cutting, because I ended up losing 8 inches by the end. My hair started out halfway down my back and ended up almost above my shoulders. I was unhappy but at least the haircut was decent. The second time I visited (a few weeks ago), Jose gave me the single worst haircut I've ever had - by a wide margin. Refer to the pic attached. I would've written this review sooner but was too upset and embarrassed until now. He was unbelievably careless and sloppy with my hair: grabbing large chunks and making straight cuts with scissors, noticeably missing hairs, without going back to fine-tune his work. He also kept socializing with people around, which is generally fine except that he was making eye contact with them instead of looking at my hair while cutting. The entire cut took about 10 minutes, and the only tool he used were those scissors. He proceeded to hide the terrible cut under a blowdry and called it a day. Absolutely horrible. This salon is a 3-minute drive from where I live, and I will never come back. read more

I don't recommend this establishment to any potential patrons. Unfortunately, and I say this with such sadness, I feel that they are not the most "socially inclusive." My nephew whom is self-identified gay male asked me to take him to Salon Cajj for a haircut at the last minute. I took him. But when he entered, I was there with him, he got all kinds of dirty looks from the male barbers that were there, some of which are Asian. I only mention they are Asian because I am Asian as well, as is my nephew, and we both felt very uncomfortable even just entering into the salon. They gave him dirty looks and even made an effort to be very passive-aggressive with him. I saw all this and wanted to say something but my nephew whom was secretly texting me from his chair asked me not to. Salon Cajj is NOT an inclusive establishment. Have been going to Salon CAJJ for about 15 years and am really happy with the hair services provided and the resulting compliments. Jason has it all--both technique and creativity. I fully trust him and let him decide how to style my hair. It's amazing how he does a slightly different style each time! Always love how my hair looks. When they were closed during COVID, I learned that his cut really really lasts. Have also been happy with the other four stylists I've used on various occasions when he was on vacation. I was trying to find a salon that was safe and following COVID-19 protocols. Of course, all salons must, you can never be too sure. A friend recommended me since she leaves nearby and has seen staff cleaning meticulously in between clients. I felt at ease with how the salon was trying to keep it's clients safe. You don't know how relieved I felt. I was miserable with how long my hair has gotten that it almost became unmanageable with how active I was. I remember driving by this salon so often everytime I visit the Montebello Town Center. So on Monday (5/25/09) I went with my dad to his friend's salon to get a haircut after growing it out super long (butt length) for the past 3 1/2 years. I figured it was time for a change and I recall going to this friend of my dad's salon before when I was younger and I "think" he did an okay job. Well this time he DIDN'T. Of course it was cheap ($15), he was my dad's friend, but he obviously did not know how to cut hair. I'm not even going to mention what salon this is because it's just one of those tiny hideous Asian salons located in the middle of a business building somewhere around the 626 area. Over the weekend, I was actually on Yelp on my iPhone and researched on different salons to get my hair cut at. I remember bookmarking Salon Cajj as well as driving up there on Sunday but they were closed for the Memorial Holiday. Well, I called in today (5/27/09), made an appointment in hopes of having my hair cut even shorter and also looking better because I was so unsatisfied with my dad's friend work. (Or shall I say mess-up?) I made an appointment with a guy named "Daniel" and when I walked in the guy at the front was super nice. He called Daniel for me and he was very welcoming and friendly. I showed him the picture I wanted my hair to look like and he immediately knew what to do with my hair. He later washed my hair and started his work. He also asked for the picture again to make sure he was getting it the way I wanted it. Half way into blow drying my hair I already saw a difference, I WAS IN LOVE WITH MY EVEN SHORTER HAIRCUT! He followed with styling my hair, changing the heads on the blow dryer and finishing off with a shine serum. It cost me $45 (not bad in my opinion) and I tipped him $10. Not too bad right? Esp. for a first time. I walked out of the salon a whole different woman! Seriously. That's how happy I was with my hair and I was taking pictures of myself while driving home! My family has been coming here for years and I'm going to continue to drive out to this place even though I moved. I always go to Jason every couple of years for a hair cut and have been to Monica a few times for my eyebrows. I'm always so happy with how my hair comes out and he always know how I like it! My last couple of cuts were at least a foot of hair chopped off to donate. I never liked short hair, but it's for a great cause and he gives me a great short cut every time. Jimmy is my stylist here. he is the ONLY person that cuts my hair. i've been going here for years, since i was a little 8 year old. and now i'm still coming here. my hair is long and usually its easy for people to cut it, but others have messed it up from other tries at other salons. Jimmy is able to cut my hair and have it grow out looking amazing. I like the service as everyone is very friendly. Went to Salon Cajj because it's literally down the street from my work. I read the reviews on yelp and decided to give Jason (one of the owners) a try. I have been going to Lois Kinsey down in Laguna Beach at Tania Clark Salon. She is a celebrity stylist and über amazing, I totally recommend her and NOT Jason. My hair WAS super long, past my derrière, and after having 2 babies back to back, I wanted to get my sexy back. I booked an appt with Jason and asked the receptionist a million questions and expressed my hesitations. She was polite and double checked and booked my appt with Jason. Jason greeted me and wasn't genuinely warm, I could tell I was just another appt for him. The shampoo was quick and average, no massage or small talk. He is heavy handed with the comb, I had tangles and he just tugged them out! I told him I was tender headed, but he didn't really change his pressure. I told him I wanted MAX 4" cut cuz I like the length and just needed some shape. I then told him that I wanted some type of bang, and he said he would cut that dry and work his way up. I appreciated that a lot. Jason obviously can't measure because he cut about DOUBLE off the ends, and now my hair is up to my bra strap! Then he proceeded to tell me, "I absolutely love this length!" I asked him to show me how much he cut and he put a 8-9" wisp of my hair on his station and said "about 4 to 5"! Yeah right, by then it was too late to do anything, my long locks were on the floor, they're new home a dustbin. So sad. As he cut my hair, my wet hair kept flicking my face and I couldn't see a thing. He also told me I was balding on top, and should keep my hair parted where it was since it was fuller on that side. Along with pregnancy changed the texture of my hair because "its not smooth anymore". Gee thanks for making a girl feel oh so special. I just wanted to get out of there and was a dummy and tipped him $10. I shoulda kept my lunch money. I always get my hair done by Diane she is awesome, I always let her do what she thinks is best and it's always a great style. I trust her judgement 100%. I used to be a huuuuuge fan but I think I outgrew them. Was a faithful patron for years until my girl messed up my hair by "color correcting" leaving it like straw.... what sucked more was that it got so busy I was blow drying my own hair. I was also left sitting with bleach in my hair... which left some splotching. It was a pretty horrible experience. I didn't even get a discount... I think I spent about 250.00 that day. I will never go back again.... However, as horrible as it sounds, I am very grateful for all those years of hair beautification that they provided. I had my hair done with Daniel for a party before But every time I come over it seems as if he always has some type of comments about what I've done to my hair, goals to do to my hair and etc. He curled my hair for an event and I told him what I wanted to do with my hair in the future (dye my hair to a lavender color) and I've told him how ive tried with another stylist but I ended up cutting my hair to a pixie My hair is now up to my jawline and he told me "long hair is better on girls, not short hair" I felt really offended and I didn't want my hands under a stylist that had judgemental comments about mine or even another client's hair goals. Besides having good hair genes, you need a good stylist. Diana has been cutting and coloring my hair for seven years. Good hair doesn't magically happen by getting a haircut. Maintenance is expensive and a huge commitment. Also, know what your hair can do and what you're willing to do for your hair. I've heard several stylists at Salon Cajj giving people advice on color and it's so refreshing to be in a salon where they care about your hair. Other salons may do that ombre for the money, knowing full well it's going to look like crap as soon as the patron stops taking care of it.
