I have been coming to Salon Charisma for a little over one year to stylist Tracy. She has impeccable customer service and is on time for most of my appointments. If she is late, it is often because a prior client is late, but since I am a frequent customer, she sees to it that I get in her chair right away. She believes in healthy hair. She has helped my hair grow and has counseled me in hair care when I am away from the salon. She is very personable and efficient. I am now phasing out chemicals in my hair, and she is able to wash, blow dry and style to make my hair very manageable. I am always pleased with the services. The price for the products used is a little expensive, but she does know how to use them very well. I was referred by my best friend and have referred someone else. Mark is absolutely fantastic! I grew out my hair for 2 years to donate it and finally when it was time to cut it I wanted to make sure it was with someone I trust. I didn't know Mark but my roommate highly recommended him and I'm oh so happy she did! I did a bunch of research on hair stylists in DC (I was willing to go to Rockville, Alexandria, anywhere). Finally due to his great reviews I chose him and he gave me the best haircut I've ever had. I have thick curly hair (latina) and it is not always easy to style. Mark was super honest with me and told me what would be the best length for me based on hair type and face structure. I wanted it super short (above my shoulders) but he suggested we keep it a tiny bit under my shoulders. I LOVE that he actually thought about what would look best on me. The length ended up being perfect, it was a nice change but still kept it super manageable. He gave me advice on which products to use and where to find them (without selling anything!). He was super nice and easy to talk to. I paid $55 for a wash, cut and style! Best deal I've seen around the area. He also offered to trim my bangs for free in the next couple of weeks!!! I go to this salon because of Fathia Boussa, but the location cannot be beat - just off Dupont Circle on the South side. Lots of windows, not crowded Maria, the shampooist adds a neck rub to the experience. Fathia's cut and color is not equalled. Anywhere. Period. Short or long, her cut makes the most of the body in my hair so I no longer need hair-damaging perms to get some bounce. read more

I tried this place because of the groupon discount and I was a bit skeptical about its brazilian wax due to the prior review. I called and they confirmed that THEY DONT DO DOUBLE DIPPING like what the former review said. I have done brazilian waxing in several places and I am impressed with Judy's waxing skills. She got it done so quick (within 15 mins) and the work was perfect. No repetitive wax as she cleared it out within 2 times max. So I thought the Yelp deal for a $35 Brazilian applied to all new customers. It does not...paid the $35 for the coupon and then had to pay $17 on top of that plus tip. All of which honestly might have been totally fine, except for the fact that that was the absolute worst wax I've ever had in my 24 years of existence. They were late to see me to begin with, and the wax took over an hour and a half. The woman clearly did not know how to use hard wax, and the result was an INCREDIBLY long and painful experience. I paid for a full Brazilian, yet there is still hair left over...and not just the usual, few pluck-ables. I still have wax all over so I'm sure that will be joyous to peel off later. I was told to clean myself up after, and the room was filthy. Absolutely disgusting. I'm so deeply unimpressed and pissed off that I had to endure so much pain for so long to receive such incompetent results. I would recommend spreading wax over a fire hydrant, sitting on it, and ripping yourself off before I'd recommend this place. 1/10 (they had Beyonce playing in the background at least). read more

Came here for a last minute Brazilian wax through Yelp. First things first, locating this place is a chore due to it being located right next to/above a Verizon store and they share the same address. I had to walk past twice to locate the door to enter (okay maybe that was my own slowness.) My waxer was nice,but kind of awkward. I prefer to be extremely comfortable with the person intending to touch my lady area by joking and having good conversation to take the awkward silence of my follicles being ripped from my skin. The wax I received wasn't much more painful than the one I've had in the past however the work was not extremely thorough as I usually am serviced at other places. He did a good job with the length I wanted, but he gave the cut no shape whatsoever; just a straight cut across the bottom, which is particularly bad with somewhat curly hair, so it looks shapeless and kind of like a guy with shaggy hair. I called at 5:00 pm on a Friday and was able to get a 5:30 pm appointment. I explicitly stated that I just needed a basic trim, since my long-bob haircut had gotten a little too long. I arrived on time and a lovely girl washed my hair (which was quite a mess, having been in a messy topknot all day). This girl gave the BEST scalp massage ever, for a solid ten minutes--such a nice way to end the week. Moving on to the actual haircut... it only took 20 minutes from start to finish, which is a plus in my book, since I hate haircuts. An older gentleman cut my hair--maybe the owner? He was the same guy who was answering the phone. Anyhow, he was clearly good at what he does, and was able to fix a botched haircut I had a while back that left the back of my hair uneven. Best of all, when I went to style my hair as usual the next day, it looked great. They give 10% off for first time clients and 20% off for students.
