First time going to the salon and I absolutly loved it. Great vibe and my hair looks great!

I was really excited to go because I heard a lot of great things from my friend about this place. I received a gift certificate here for Christmas and decided to book an appointment for a Saturday a few days in advance. It was hard, because they were so booked up, but then I finally got squeezed in. Then, I get a call the day of my appointment with the news that my stylists sister went into labor so they canceled on me. It wasn't a big deal so i rescheduled for the next week and was still excited/antsy. Then, again, on the day of my appointment, i get a call around 2:55 and they ask if i can come in at 3 (!!!) because my stylist was busy (????) and needed to move me up. So of course I say no and then then receptionist tries to reschedule me for next week (!!!) So i say loudly "NO" and short story, I have to cancel the color portion of my cut and color just so they can fit me in. When i get there, I don't even get my stylist that i booked with and they only knock $10 off of my price. They were unapologetic and tried to stand their ground for canceling on me officially and trying to cancel on me once. I admit, my hair is nice and i did eventually get my cut and color (and Thayra was a sweetheart), but unless they change the way they treat their customers, I don't think that i'll be going back anytime soon. read more

I've always been timid about hair salons so I came to Cheval since a friend recommended this place and also recommended Christina Bocanegra, so I went for a complete change and I LOOVED the outcome. Christina is the type to listen to what the client wants and makes sure she understands everything. And she's just really helpful, she gets the hair trends so it's not hard for her to get what you want. She'll always be my go-to hair gal at Cheval. Not to mention, Cheval is super clean and roomy. I went in on a Tuesday morning to see one of the styling assistants because I was to be her model for a color correction. I arrived and as soon as I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the receptionist and another stylist. They offered me refreshments while I waited for my stylist, Angela. Angela arrived shortly after and sat me in one of the chairs. She explained thoroughly what would be done and why. We went through the big book of color samples to find my natural color, the current colors I already had dyed my hair, and my color goal (including the shades I wanted as highlights and lowlights to give my hair dimension.) The stylist that greeted me came over and spoke to Angela about the process and reviewed our color choices. (My stylist Angela is an assistant at this salon, but she's an experienced stylist with years under her belt.) After the plan was made, Angela started working on my hair. She really took her time to make sure everything went alright and the color processed as it should. By the end of it, I had a nice base color and some highlights. My hair came out beautifully and it was a great stepping stone to start the process of turning me from a washed out red with stark highlights to a nice ashy blonde. We ended with a base color the salon owner approved of and I was very happy with the entire experience, as well as the final product. We will be taking the process in sessions, so this was only the first visit. But I'm extremely confident in Angela and I'm 150% confident that she will find a good home in Salon Cheval. The salon was very clean and all the staff was very friendly. I really liked the chill atmosphere and creative energy the salon has. A lot of places are very "get in/get out" and rush you through the process, but you definitely won't find that here. I highly recommend this shop to the individual who cares about their hair enough to go to experienced stylists and are willing to invest their time in getting it right. read more

This salon is awesome! Today was my first time there and I was very happy with my overall experience. The receptionist was very friendly and nice on the phone, and she managed to squeeze me in fairly last minute on a Saturday. I was amazed at how large the salon was, and I especially liked how clean it was kept, too. My stylist (I don't remember her name, sorry!) met with me not long after I arrived and sat me down for a quick consultation. I showed her some pictures I had of ideas I liked and she went to work. First was the shampoo. It was nice and relaxing, I could've fallen asleep! I was kind of sad when it was over. Next was the cut. The cut didn't take too long, and she asked me throughout if I liked the length, if I wanted more off, she kept checking if it was even, basically, everything you want a PROFESSIONAL hairstylist to be doing while cutting your hair. When the cut was finished (and it looked AMAZING!!), she styled it to look like one of the pictures I showed her and I was so stoked!!! I could not have been happier with my haircut, and I am going to recommend this place to everyone looking for a great salon. The stylist listened to exactly what I wanted and she delivered! $40 for a shampoo, cut, and style is pretty damn good, too. I will definitely be back :) read more

Love this place! The stylists and receptionists are really friendly and polite. I've gone to Lindsey a few times and she's awesome. She's good at interpreting the weird descriptions of what I want my color to look like, and I always like my hair when it's done. The decor in the salon is really cute, and you can tell that the owner is creative and in touch with trends. It's a little expensive but I think it's worth it if you're trusting someone with your hair. Would highly suggest Salon Cheval. read more

I usually go to the Grande in Brea because my stylist is at that place but I went to Salon Cheval because I won a gift card from a charity event. So first I love that they donate to charities I believe in and second this salon is a total 180 from what I am used to seeing. First its a little more spaced out between stylists stations. I feel like I can breathe a little more, second, I didn't feel rushed to get my hair done and third it is fairly priced. I've been a customer at this salon being served by Jessica for about 3 years now and I have always left satisfied. Each time I get a new haircut or get my hair dyed I receive compliments every single day on my hair. I always request an appointment a week before, so I can get the exact date and time I want with Jessica. She always has made my hair look nice. I've gone from brown to red to brown to blonde and long to short for the past years and Jess has always made my hair look beautiful. I have been to this salon a few times before and I have always had a great experiences. However this last time I decided I wanted bangs, I was left regretting my decision, even months later. Everyone was very kind and the salon is beautiful and very professional. They got me right in even though I was a walk in daily late in the evening. The thing is, these bangs are still haunting me! This is definitely one of the worst haircuts I have had in my adult life. I was initially going to write a review when it first happened, but i decided to wait to see if they would grow out to look okay. Nope! I asked for shaggy bangs around my eyebrow, and i ended up with what strongly resembled a mullet. VERY heavy, almost straight across cut bangs that were impossible to style, and did not blend with the rest of my hair at all. I ended up wearing hats every day until they grew long enough to pin back, and it still looked ridiculous. It has been several months and I continued holding out hope that they would grow out to look halfway decent, but they never did. WAY too much hair was cut off starting from WAY too far back, and I would have gone back but I honestly do not believe that another haircut will be able today fix it. I assume responsibility for not being clear enough about what I wanted, but I also have a hard time believing that anyone on earth would purposely ask for bangs this heavy and unflattering. It seemed like the stylist even knew she had messed up and I felt embarrassed walking out like that, so I went to the bathroom and threw the rest of my hair up into a ponytail to try to make the bangs look halfway decent. It was a huge bummer but I definitely learned my lesson. read more

Lindsey did a great job on my hair. The location is convenient, the staff is friendly, and the salon looks great. The price was about what I would expect for color, but $40 for a trim felt pretty high to me. I am very specific about my hair, and after trying several salons in Whittier that couldn't get it right , Salon Cheval was refreshing. I am giving it five stars, despite the expensive hair cut, because I am very pleased with the results. read more

My hair needed some serious help and I had never visited "Salon Cheval" before but thank God Heather was able to fit me in to her schedule. I absolutely loved the color and cut and all around final result of my hair! She was very nice and patient when I was explaining to her why my hair was so "tore up" also throughout the whole process continuously asking if I was ok and if I needed anything. After doing a lot of online research, I found myself booking an appointment with Sheila for my 13 year old daughter. My daughter is about to start high school, so she wanted something a little more edgy and up to date. I was kind of nervous because she wanted flame red highlights, but after explaining what I wanted, and what my daughter wanted, Sheila came up with an awesome solution for both of us. Absolutely love this place ! I came here for the first time to do a full color with highlights, which came out to be $140. I was really unsure about what colors to do but Cristina was amazing in helping me pick out the right colors and styling. She's very knowledgeable and really takes the time to make sure it's done right. The entire staff is very friendly and welcoming. Also, I love how its so spacious inside. Prices are reasonable. About 55 for full color 65 for highlights... Definitely would recommend this place ! read more

I just had an appointment this weekend with Cydnee. I have been to the Salon before but it was my first appointment with her. She was super friendly and made me feel at ease. Her hair cut and color was also very adorable which made me feel confident in letting her handle my hair. I have medium to long hair with a few layers. I explained to her what I wanted and how I usually do my hair, she listened to me carefully and styled my hair accordingly. She did a beautiful job on the color and cut. I am very pleased with the results, my hair has more volume and feels much healthier. The Salon as a whole is clean trendy, and has an exceptional staff (very friendly). Sheila is my hair savior. I have been going to her for well over a year now. I have had many bad haircut experiences but Sheila was so great I trusted her enough to do highlights (which I L-O-V-E!) and she has helped me jump out of my "hair comfort zone". And he has yet again turned this mange into sleek, manageable, run my fingers through, beautiful hair. He begins with a quick thorough consult, then shampoo and on to the cut.
