Where do I begin...walked in and immediately loved the place. The receptionist was very nice. Quickly got introduced to my future new hair stylist, Angela. I loved the fact that before she did anything she took the time to ask what I was looking for, how I felt about my current hair situation and what she could do to help. Instantly I felt comfortable. Well if your looking for a salon in Whittier don't go here, you get greeded to girls(more than one) standing at the front desk staring you down, I felt like I was back in high being stared down by the mean girls included the owner of the salon. I was shocked that you could run a salon this way. not only was my visit horrible I called the salon to schedule an appointment and was treated very rude on the phone. I have so many positive things to say about this salon! My mom, sister, dad, and I have all come here over the past few years and we all LOVE Christina! I have very long, thick, curly hair and Christina is fantastic with it. She is the only person I trust to do my bangs (I have had HORRENDOUS experiences with my bangs due to their thickness). However, Christina took the time to look at them closely and found a spot where the hair is thicker, thus resulting in weird looking bangs half the time. She expertly cut them and I've been happy ever since. Whenever I'm unsure about something about length, she takes it slowly until they're perfect; I've never had bangs that were too short. Personality wise, she is just the sweetest and always asks about my family and different things that are going on in my life. I'm moving to SF soon but am going to make the trip back to LA to have her cut my hair. She's the only person I trust! Additionally, the salon in general is just wonderful. The staff is very welcoming and kind, always trying to get to know you. Even though I only go in every few months for a trim, they always recognize my voice on the phone and are just fantastic. In general Salon Cheval is a nice salon with good service. My 5 star review is targeted specifically towards a particular stylist - Jennifer. I hear good things about the other stylists, but I can't speak to their talents since I have only seen Jennifer (albeit their clients all end up looking very nice after their services). Jennifer is a really talented stylist with a very sweet demeanor. My first time here was over a year ago when I had waist length, dyed hair. Over this period of time Jennifer has taken me from dyed hair back to my natural color and has cut variations such as very long layers, shoulder length blunt and a extremely graduated bob. I have found with past stylists that they tend to have a specialty (long hair cuts, short hair cuts, color, styling, etc.) and excel in said specialty. The great thing about Jennifer is that she has done an excellent job on every service she has given me. I also put a lot of weight into how well a blow-out is done. I have hair that is far from straight but also far from curly and very thick. My hair is healthy but is still very frizzy and requires dedicated styling to get it tamed and smooth. When I go to a salon, I expect to walk out of there with wonderfully styled hair that I don't have to go home and restyle and, sadly, I would say that this would happen to me about 80% of the time with other stylists. Not with Jennifer! Her blow-outs are amazing. My hair is always shiny, smooth and full when I leave. She doesn't even use a flat iron to get the results I like (which I have to use when at home). Yesterday was my first time going to this salon. I had not cut my hair in 2 years and had not colored it in 10 years. So i was super nervous. Shannon was my stylist and she did an AMAZING job. Found this place on yelp, had high reviews and it was worth a try to come check this place out. Recently moved to the area I was scared getting a new stylist and at a new facility. I was going to my old salon for about 3 years and this place knocked them out. This place is nice and big and very pleasant to be in, no odd odors or hair everywhere. Place was clean, well light and most importantly the women there are very friendly. They kick up conversations very easily and the girls do an amazing job with your hair! I was very hesitate to go with the length my stylist suggested but I decided why not let's see if she knows what she's talking about, and my god she was right , my hair looked amazing with a bob cut. I went to this salon once for a haircut. My experience was NOT GOOD. I asked for a trim to remove split ends and I asked her to remove some of the heaviness. What I got was lopsided layers that were way to short and a bad blow dry. She didn't even show me the back and when I asked her to flat iron my hair her response was "I have another client". Yikes, well at least my length was there. I realized what a bad cut it was when I had put my hair up and a piece of hair three inches longer than the rest of my hair was sticking straight out of my ponytail?! I had to get it recut and when my usual stylist saw the mess she urged me to call the salon. This is where my experience gets better. I spoke to the owner who was very polite, offered to fix the cut, let me tell her about my experience, and was open to the pictures I had to taken,because YES the layers were that bad. I appreciate the professionalism and customer service of the owner. She seemed genuine in wanting to rectify the situation. I don't know if the stylist was having an off day or if she was unaware of how to cut thicker, coarser hair but I would have much rather her tell me during the consultation if she had any reservations. Hair grows back and when it does I will defiantly not be getting it cut here! read more

WOW! That's the first thing I had to say when I walked out of the door of this wonderful little Salon. Little probably isn't the best word considering how large a space this Salon actually is, but you get what I mean :D I haven't had my hair cut in almost 2 years because it had been through hell and back and I just wanted to have it grow out enough before I started doing anything crazy with it again, so being that I live here in Whittier right down the street practically from where this place is, you can imagine my surprise when I had barely notice it's presence a few months ago (it's been open for about a year now i believe). I'm not sure what else to say without sounding overly jubilant about this little gem I've found except IT'S AWESOME! More importantly the stylists there are awesome. I had the very fortunate pleasure of having my first experience at this salon be with that of one very adorable and very sweet Melissa. Although I am new to yelp, I am not a new client of this salon. Christina has been my stylist for years & I am always 100% satisfied, not only with her work on my hair, but also with her professional approach every time I sit in her chair. She always leaves my hair looking amazing & I receive compliments even when it's time to touch up my color. Christina has never let me down & she makes me feel brand new after every visit. I would HIGHLY recommend her as a stylist to anyone. I don't recommend Angela. She did my hair and makeup for prom and it came out HORRIBLE. I looked cakey, orange and gross. My lipstick was messed up and smeared and my eyelashes were glued on wrong. I came home and wiped off half of my makeup and it was still CAKEY. The other ladies were super sweet. But angela seemed very stand-offish. I do not recommend her for makeup. I have not seen how she does hair so I can't judge that. read more
