She reached out to me via DM and offered to help me with my hair-mergency. I previously went to a salon in Falls Church where my hair was cut unevenly(one side longer than the other/thinner than the other), severely thinned out at the bottom and given choppy "layers"(if you could even call them that. Initially I wasn't able to tell walking out of the salon due to the way the stylist had blew out my hair - it was only when I washed it for the first time that I noticed it. I was too embarrassed to even take photos of my hair and tried to hide it the best I could by curling it again for work. Julie did an amazing job saving what she could of my hair. She evened out the bottom as best as it could be (there is still some thinness/patchiness just due to the previous stylist) but I couldn't be more grateful for her time and work. If you're ever in need of a great service, I highly recommend seeing Julie and taking advantage of her 20+ years of knowledge/experience.

Afraid to say much in the way of details, but I do want to tell peeps to most definitely advocate for yourself even if the stylist doesn't agree with you because you are getting your hair done how YOU like it and in a style that makes you feel good, not for them! And trust me, they would most definitely not want you to choose their hairstyle for them, so don't feel bad about standing your ground. I wish I had!!! My hair looks no different, and I truly hate it, and I hate the word hate! I am not happy at all, and I wasted a lot of money! My fight or flight kicked in, and I should have listened to myself and walked out. Instead, I let them wear me down, and ended up paying over $100 to have something done that is not what I wanted and not even close to what I booked my appointment for, and I am so disappointed it's not even funny. It's one thing to give an unsolicited opinion and even to explain why you have that opinion, but it's another to basically bully someone into your idea of how you think they should look! It's ultimately the individual's choice as to how they want their own hair colored unless, of course, you waive all rights, which I did not, or if my life was in jeopardy by getting it colored how I wanted, which it was not. Beyond disappointed & I do not recommend this place at all! Beware!!!

If you are anywhere in the VA or DC area you MUST go to Salon Daniel in McLean and see DARRELL THOMPSON!!!! He's absolutely amazing!! A true Salon Artist!! I moved out here from Los Angeles nearly a year and a half ago and he's been working on my hair ever since. I had celeb hairstylists working on my hair in LA and wanted to find a quality stylist here. I was tired of my CA blond short hair. Darrell has worked his magic on my hair and now it's healthy and long again! He knows and understands all hair types, cuts, styles, and coloring. I am Caucasian and with a lot of dark ash blond hair naturally that has a lot of wave to it. I have seen his work first hand on various clients of various ethnicities so I can tell you personally no matter your hair type Darrell will make you gorgeous and leaving you wanting to come back to see him again!! I've also gone to Darrell several times for up-dos for special galas and events in DC. I wish I could post pics of what he did on here. Some of them are his Facebook page. He gave me a classic pin up look and gorgeous waves. I have never had so many people compliment me on my hair until Darrell did it. I love his work so much I now bring my daughter in to get cuts from him and she's 4! Her first salon haircut was done by Darrell and he's so good with her. She now looks forward to going with me for our Mommy/Daughter salon days to see him. Pricing is very reasonable and the time you spend with him you feel leaving like you've made a new best friend. He's always very creative and you will NEVER leave his chair disappointed, I promise that after nearly two years with him. Also the staff at Salon Daniel is exceptional as well. I have had my hair done by Simon Bechara many times now and can say with absolute confidence that he is one of the best out there. His personality is a big one, he loves to laugh and have fun and makes you feel as if you've known each other for years. That makes the experience itself enjoyable, but that doesn't even go into the actual hairstyle. You don't even need to bring Simon a picture or a reference, you can just tell him "Do your thing!" and you'll walk out feeling like a supermodel! He is fast, efficient, and amazing at what he does! I would recomment him to anyone, whether they're just getting a cut, getting colored, getting a treatment, or an updo for an event. I read below a review about a girl getting a Brazilian Keratin treatment from Simon that supposedly dried out her hair?!? A review is only reliable as the person writing it. It sounds to me that Simon told her what she could do to fix any possible issues she may have been having (who knows what the girl did to her hair between Simon touching it and then) and she wasn't even willing to do that. Noone is going to pressure you to buy product, they're going to show you what products you can buy that will make your hair better than the products you're currently using, and you can opt to purchase and use them or not. Reading the other review by Danielle S., the fact that she said "They offered me a beverage, I think, I can't remember." and "They gave me a robe to wear, I think, I can't remember." how reliable do you really think the rest of her common sense and memory is? Again, just my opinion. If the rest of the stylists at Salon Daniel are anywhere CLOSE to Simon (I haven't personally had the chance to work with any of them) then I can say with absolute confidence that you will be pleased with your results as well as the experience you had during your time at the salon! :) read more

I have never been 'faithful' to a stylist beyond a year, but I've been devoted to Samira for more than 6 years. This is for one reason: Samira rocks! For one, while she came to the salon with her own obvious and solid talents, she was polished by one of the DC area's best: owner Daniel. Daniel has built a DC institution - celebrating 20 years- comprised of comfortable surroundings, a pleasant ambience and a team who comes off as decent and morally good, vs. latenight partiers holding it together on the job. Back to Samira: with the wisdom of a jovial sage, she sheds her common sense insights with care and energy while - simultaneously - delivering deft maneuvers to style your head into the best you with hair possible. When I go to her, I generally tell her to do whatever she wants with my color and cut, with only a hint of preference. My philosophy is that you can get the best out of a true pro and artist when you empower them to bring what is beautiful. Her talent with hair styling supercedes all else, and as someone with a particularly critical eye, I require this in a professional. Her hair styling talent is the reason I continur to come back. Simply put, woman leave Samira more beautiful! Also, I don't know what it is, and this is an odd analogy, but you could be sitting on a park bench in Cuba with a 70-year-old man, shooting the breeze, receiving chunks of golden wisdom while still keeping things light, and if that weathered little old man turned - magically - into Samira, you would realize ... it would not be in soul. read more

My 1st visit to Salon Daniel was April 4, 2019 and it was a wonderful experience! Very classy, friendly and professional atmosphere. It was extremely clean with tasteful decor. I followed my long time friend and hair stylist Sureyya here from another location. She gave me a trim, baby blonde highlights and soft beach waves with the flat iron. I sit in the chair and watch my hair magically transform in the mirror. I have fine hair thats very difficult to style, but she makes it beautiful! I felt so welcomed here...relaxed, pampered and cared for. I highly recommend Sureyya because she loves styling/coloring hair and has been doing so for over 20 years. Its artistry for her and she works with all kinds of hair and clients--men, women and children. You will appreciate her expertise. She keeps up with all the new trends and techniques, too...if you want something special! Over the years I've had many massages but I can honestly say Daniela gives the best massages EVER. The overall experience is wonderful -- at no time do you feel rushed, Daniela takes her time to get to know you and your needs, makes recommendations for stretches & exercises, and it doesn't hurt that the rest of staff is friendly. The massages are a great combination of therapeutic and relaxing. I have a bunch of arm/neck/back problems and I find the relief the massages provide to last a good amount of time. After my first massage I received a little goodie bag with a coupon for a free conditioning treatment and some samples of hair products -- I thought that was cute. The referral program is pretty nice. If you refer someone, they get 20% off their service and as a "thank you" you get a voucher to get 20% any service you want, regardless of what service your friend got. I have been visiting Salon Daniel for years. I was hesitant to find a new hair stylist, as most women know, this is a big deal! Then I met Simon, and what can I say, I loved him from the moment I met him. He was engaging and listened to what my wishes and what I didn't want. I left that day knowing that a life long friendship had just been created, and I had the best hair artist in all of the DMV! Over the years we have become great friends, and I truly love him like he is part of my family. We share the good and the bad that is going on in our lives, and we always have a great time! Now to talk about the high-lights and style. Every time I leave, I fall in love with my hair all over again. I'm a perfectionist and Rita gives a perfect, flawless manicure which lasts forever. She has performed miracles with my very damaged nails. They look amazing! What makes Rita stand out from all the other manicurists I've gone to is that she TRULY cares about her clients. She even tells me when I need to give my nails a "rest" so they get healthy. I had the wonderful pleasure of working with Lilly. I had my had bleached and dyed purple at a different salon and the stylist really didn't do it correctly at all. Lilly knows her stuff! She took one look at the picture I wanted and my hair and knew exactly how to do it correctly! She was so sweet and kind. On time, and transformed my hair into what exactly what I wanted it to be!!!! She even taught me which brush would be the best and helped me pick out a color save shampoo there at the salon which are usually so expensive but they were appropriately priced. I fact after she spent such time fixing my hair I wanted to give her more!!! I recommend this salon 100% and ask for Lilly!!! On a last note every one I spoke to from the receptionists to the ladies who wash hair were so incredibly kind. It's been 24 hours and I've gotten so many compliments. I've been going to Sureyya for more than decade at her previous salon, and when she was afforded this new exciting opportunity at Salon Daniel there was no way that I was going to go to a different stylist. It's definitely a much different experience than previously. They offer drinks and snacks, and you are greeted warmly upon arrival. Salon Daniel is a full-service salon (they offer premium color, hair extensions, nail services among many more things) and for the first time I was able to get some silver iridescent hair tinsel woven into a my hair, and now I'm hooked. Sureyya is an amazing stylist, and I frequently get compliments on my hair color. My hair is a slow grower and she's always very careful not to cut off more than is needed for which I am truly grateful. Well, after this pandemic, for first time I got to a salon for my hair. I always like to go a salon which has a respectful staff and I finally found it today. Daniel's kindly manner as owner, on top of that made me comfortable and feel welcomed. Mojee, my hair stylist who i know her for 15 Years, I had the best experience with her. As soon as I got to salon she started to work on my hair to highlight. i absolutely love the color of highlight which seems so natural and uniform. I had my wedding updo done by Surreya and it was GORGEOUS! She went above and beyond my expectations- the style held up beautifully all the way into the night (even with a heavy cathedral veil on and with a lot of dancing!) and she was wonderful throughout the entire appointment making sure everything felt comfortable and looked exactly as I wanted as she created it. She also did my Maid of Honor's hair spur of the moment and with very little direction, and created a beautiful soft look that was perfect for what she was looking for. I have been following Darrell Thompson from salon to salon for five years to have my hair extensions done by him. He's currently working out of Salon Daniel, a lovely salon. If you want a cheap looking weave or cheesy looking extensions, go elsewhere. Darrell is a master at his craft which he keeps perfecting. He keeps current with the latest trends in hair weaves and various methods of hair extensions. Notwithstanding, the man rocks at hair color and highlighting, Also, Darrell uses only the highest quality of Remy hair which he custom orders to blend in with my own hair's texture. Darrell's extensions are undectable and no one has ever questioned whether or not my hair is "real,." Truly a one-of-a-kind salon, where everyone there makes you feel like you're part of the family. I have been coming to Salon Daniel, specifically seeing Lily, for the past 12 years and that will never change. Lily has taken incredible care of me and is a master of her craft! I have difficult long/full/frizzy coarse hair, and she treats it with such ease. From Keratin treatments (which are a MUST DO in the Virginia humidity), cuts, color and my most cherished weekly blow outs, I have and will continue doing it all with her. Not only is she great at what she does, she is always so positive and full of life, that it's a treat seeing her and walking out of there revived and energized. I've only been to Salon Daniel for the extraordinary massages by Michele and that is reason enough to go. In the course of 3 to 4 massages she worked out a pain that had been troubling me for nearly a year in my upper back thigh. Michele asked me a number of questions before even starting the massages and was always attune to what I needed and was feeling. I was seriously concerned that I would need a doctor's attention and that the pain would not go away. However, with Michele warm and strong hands and careful attention to me, the pain subsided and is now gone. Michele gave me a number of key tips that made a huge difference in what I needed to feel a 100 percent better. I've seen her since then to work out daily stress and muscle tension and she has been terrific. Do not go elsewhere for a massage. read more

This salon really knows what theyre doing, and I recently learned that theyve been around for 20 years, which isn't shocking because of the quality that they produce. I have had my hair done by Daniel several times over the years, and my wife sees Mer, who does her color and is the only person she lets touch her head. I also heard that this salon offers amazing other services, like massages and facials, though I haven't actually had those performed (neither has my wife). If you want a really good male haircut, definitely recommend Daniel. His attention to detail is flawless, and he's also done several celebrities. With out a doubt the best hair salon in all of Northern Virginia. I have been shopping around to find a new hair stylist because mine recently moved out of the area :( and I was told to try out Salon Daniel and let me tell you I got very lucky (i feel). Booking was a breeze, they answered all of my questions and spent the time talking with me. When I got there was greeted with a smile and a beverage and when I met Daniel was very impressed. I'm surprised by some of the negative comments. I have been going to Daniel and his assistant, Lili at Salon Daniel for about three years now, and though I think the prices are a bit high (and now that I talk with friends I find that I pay about the same as, maybe a little bit more than they do), I refuse to change. I have very difficult thick, curly hair that I color and get keratin treatments on. I have been stopped by strangers on the street complimenting, at times my cut, other times my color. My friends are repeatedly telling me how good it looks. When that happens, you don't make any changes! Everyone there is professional, very attentive. DEFINITELY worth the price. read more

Your hair is part of who you are and trusting someone to cut and color it takes time. I have know Sureya Marks for 15 years now and I love her professionalism and passion for what she does. I had many issues with my dry and difficult hair but Sureya always found a solution. For example, I moved to an area where the water is hard water making my hair 'orange.' Sureya quickly acknowledged that and helped me to find a solution. To know a hairstylist for 15 years and counting means a lot to me. Then, the salon staff is friendly and polished. After washing and toning I was brought back the chair. My highlights are very orange and striped. No root smudge was applied which made the highlights look harsh. My stylist then turned me away from the mirror while she rough dried my hair without product then curled my hair all while I was turned away. She then proudly turned me like it was a reveal. I was so shocked I couldn't speak. My color was supposed to be a dimensional blonde but instead was a brassy reddish yellow stripes. The cut was not what we discussed at all. It was longer in the back and shorter in the front. I asked her to straighten my hair so we could discuss the length and shape. At this point her next client came in and was sat in front of her station. I felt like we were now being rushed. She again began to apply heat to my hair with no product and roughly ran the straightener through my hair making my hair look like a broom. She cut more off the back and said I was done. She put some hair product on my hair as I was leaving. I honestly was in such shock I could barely communicate my feelings. I just grabbed my things and left. This is not the place to go if you want a soft dimensional balayage or highlight. I can't believe I paid over $450 and now am frantically looking for someone to fix my hair. I've had two local stylists tell me I need a color correction. My advice is research each stylists Instagram account and choose accordingly.

I specially told her to not decrease the length and just give a trim for the split ends and shape the hair. Of course she had to chop off 4-5 inches of my hair! I arrived on time for my 11:45 AM appointment, knowing it would be with another stylist for color…read moresince mine would not be available for a haircut until closer to 1pm (my original appointment time). I had added a root touch up/color appt prior to that and was told I would be able to be squeezed in but with a different stylist since I was told mine was already fully booked. I knowingly was fine with this plan because I had the expectation my haircut would take place after blow drying it (closer to the expected 1pm time slot). After waiting over one hour over my scheduled haircut time (with a "complementary acidic hair mask" that had been in place for way over the allotted 15 mins), my stylist was finally ready to blowdry my hair and had finished with foils from the previous client. Even though she had checked in and asked me if I was in a time constraint, I did not expect to be an hour over my scheduled hair appointment. I felt like I was left ignored at the sink with my hair air drying out while waiting. Although I did enjoy my stylists calm demeanor and conversations throughout my experience, my stylist repeatedly left me to attend to her previous client that was before me. I was also disappointed at the amount of oily products placed in my hair, and it was decided to be remedied with more dry shampoo instead of the idea of starting over by washing oil products out. I would have been much happier if she had just passed me off to someone else honestly. I was surprised and even verbalized to her that even if I was scheduled for a haircut at 1pm (without my color appointment), I would have still had to wait over an hour because someone scheduled a full blonde highlights appointment before me. When I get blowouts from upscale salons, they last me close to a week. I was deeply upset that I spent a lot of money and time at this salon only to have to wash my hair the NEXT morning from the amount of oil products and leave in conditioners that were placed. Even more dry shampoo could not rectify how dirty and oily my hair looked the next day. Furthermore, after already waiting for over 1.5hrs over my scheduled haircut time, the stylist only provided a minimal trim rather than my desired cut even though I shared that my goal was to remove dead ends. When I asked for more length to be taken off, she reassured me that I needed to trial hydrating my ends with more oil based/mask conditioner products at home, that she didn't want to take a lot off since I am trying to grow it out, and to schedule another "haircut" in 8 weeks. Although she sounded reassuring, I expressed that I didn't feel comfortable paying for a haircut when barely any inches of hair were cut at this appointment (seriously no chunks to sweep on the floor). My hair looks exactly the same in length and style--with retained dried dead ends. I had to come up with my own solution that if I went home and wanted to get a real haircut, that I would be able to come back. She reassured me I would not be charged for a haircut for today and to come back if I truly wanted inches off as long as I came back within a few days of this "blowout". Already disappointed and disastrously upset at this point, I proceeded to the receptionist desk who quoted a total of nearly $350. When I disputed the amount, she dismissed my concern and insisted the charge was correct, even though I told her I only came for root color not highlights and that I was promised not to be charged a haircut today. Her response was "haircut was not charged...highlight and color is the same price $297, blowout was $53." I knew this was incorrect as I had previously reviewed prices with the front desk person when I first booked this appointment over the phone a few days prior. Astonished, flustered, and exhausted, I paid and left--knowing I will hesitate to book here again. Twenty minutes later, I received a phone call from the front desk girl admitting that I had been incorrectly charged for another customer's service. She also stated that there were no available appointments for a haircut if I wanted to come back for one in the narrow time frame my stylist suggested. She stated "she's all booked" and the earliest appointment was a day that was 9 days later. Although a refund was supposedly processed for the initial mistake, I do not plan to recommend this salon to close family or friends. The lack of professionalism, integrity, and customer service from both the stylist and the front desk management was appalling.

I had a total of 4 stylists work on my hair but was told that the original dye mixture grabbed onto my hair WAY more than they thought. Although I understand hair textures are different, there was no excuse to have put that dark of a color mixture in my hair in the first place. I was told I did not have to pay which I appreciated (the reason for 2 stars) but I would not recommend this place. Made me never want to dye my hair again!
