I have always hated getting my hair cut, mostly due to having had bad cuts in the past, but i love coming to Salon de Cheveux! The girls here are so talented and professional and do such an amazing job. I have gotten cuts by at least 3 of the hair stylists and they all were good. I don't know a lot about hair and they are always willing to give tips and advice when I ask. Another perk is their online site. It is so easy to book an appointment and you get to choose not only a time, but also the stylist. A standard cut/wash/dry typically costs about $63, not including tip. I had an appointment here Friday and will 120% be going back! I get the Ouidad curly hair cut which is a whole experience in and of itself but it also has to be done correctly. This was my first Ouidad cut with Shauna and she knows her curls :) She is a pro when it comes to recommending great products from the line and technique. I had previously had a Ouidad cut but my styling technique was all wrong and I'd never had anyone go over it with me so well. Low rating isn't for the service/quality. They're actually amazing at what they do & I've never left unhappy. But they lose 2 stars because of the INSANE prices. I've been to multiple salons on Newbury & have never paid as much as I did at Salon De Cheveux. I have been going here for a couple of years now, but I made the desperate decision to go to another salon due to post - Covid availability and they TOTALLY ruined me. I was so upset. I finally got into Salon de Cheveux with my girl Jen and I am back to normal (actually better than normal). Jen was consultative and gave me the EXACT results I was looking for. I moved to Southie a year ago and started coming to the salon. It was ok, not great but then COVID shut down the city. Fast forward to my first appointment in a while since we left town for two months. Their policy is "they cannot guarantee your appointment if you're more than 15 mins late." I waited outside for 20 mins PAST my appointment time and left. RIDICULOUS and of course, they charged me 1/2 the cost. Entitlement - your time is worthy but mine isn't. read more

Found Salon De Cheveux based on yelp reviews and was able to get a same day appointment with Alex for a wash, cut, and style. The salon is small, but has a great boutique vibe. Parking was a bit tough, but I was able to snag a spot in the library across the street (as recommended on their website). Alex was great! We had a great chat about what I was looking for and she made awesome recommendations. I really wanted a new style and post-wedding cleanup. I've been coming here for about six months, and I could not be happier! Kerri, is a genius. She always takes time to talk to me and really figure out what I'm interested in doing with my hair, even when I'm being wishy-washy. And people constantly don't just remark that I've had my hair done, but ask if they can get my stylist's number! The first time I saw her I got a drastic cut - and each time I've been in, we've refined it so it's even more perfect for me. I have lived in Boston for 5 years now, and my biggest complaint is that I couldn't find a stylist I could go to every time I needed my hair done. I've had a million since I moved here. For the first time I went back to the same place for the 3rd time in a row, and saw Alexis for 2 of them. I am hooked. She\\\Alexis is amazing at color and cut (and I am sooo picky). She is patient with all my crazy ideas, and somehow figures out exactly what I want. Not only is she amazing with my anxiety over my long hair being cut, but I went in yesterday and she asked me about my brothers that i told her about in my last visit in July, this girl is phenomenal. Loved this salon. I had my hair cut with Allison and she did an amazing job and listened to everything I wanted exactly and she even stayed late to accommodate me when I got out of work. The salon is bright, open, clean and conveniently right on East Broadway. I felt the price was more reasonable than other salons in the area, namely Spa Christine which always seems overpriced to me. Salon De Cheveux also has a great referral program which has given me 15% off my last two cuts, for being referred and referring someone else. I had a bridal appointment with Ali for my wedding (no trial just decided to trust her) she did an amazing job on my hair. After that I was sold, and started seeing Ali for cuts and colors. This past visit was my second time visiting this salon. Whenever I call or walk in, the receptionist is extremely friendly and accommodating. I went to this salon for partial high lights and a cut. I walked out with hair color change so subtle, I actually preferred my hair color and cut before the appointment. I have ash brown hair and no grays. I was certainly looking for blonde highlights The stylist decided to use a non bleach lightener and then explained her choice later when I expressed concern. I told her these are not the highlights I am used to seeing. The stylist then explained that it made it natural looking.. There is no real reason for a stylist to use non bleach lightener unless I asked for one or if I had deep dark brown or damaged hair. I wanted naturally applied (fine weave foil painted) bleach highlights. She began trimming my hair with out my consent on amount to take off. Over all the stylist continuously forgot to communicate with me and I think forgot that this was my hair. I called the next day and they booked me with the same stylist, I decided to give her another shot.. Maybe it was a bad day or something. For this appointment she used bleach and did not finely weave the highlights, it is so streaky and far out from my roots. I'll be getting my hair re done for a 3 rd time in a few weeks at a salon that charges appropriately for their services. I was heartbroken at the cost of a service that was so expensive and exhausting. I was also whacked in the head by the hair dryer and the hair brush the stylist used was atrocious and not hygienic looking. I even brought my own the second time and tried to ask she use it and she was like this is the same one.. Except it's not mine is only used on me. Will not go back. read more

I got my hair cut yesterday by Shauna for the first time, and I love it! I'm transitioning away from having a Brazilian Keratin treatment in my super curly hair, so I didn't bother to go for the full ouidad cut that is specifically for curlies this time. I do have some curl returning to my hair and she still had great advice and handled my hair expertly. She didn't miss a beat when analyzing the condition of my hair. I've had innumerable bad haircuts because many stylists don't know how to work with my crazy tight curls, but Shauna has definitely gained my trust. I plan to return to see her in a couple months for the ouidad cut when the keratin fades away. She even took time to look at pictures of what I want next time I come in so we wouldn't go too short this time. I visited Salon De Cheveux in early December, and saw Kim. I'm new to Boston, and was very excited to find a cool new Salon to get a badly needed trim. Basically as soon as I walked into the salon I realized going there was a mistake. The place was busy, crowded and chaotic. The receptionist barely said hello. I sat down in the waiting area for my appointment. I had arrived 10-15 minutes early since it was a new appointment, so I was perfectly fine waiting for a little bit. The time for my appointment came and passed. 5-10 minutes after it was supposed to start Kim came over and hurriedly introduced herself to me and said it was going to be just a few more minutes. Since the place was small, I could see the client she was working on, and she was JUST STARTING to work on highlighting her customer's long, voluminous hair. More and more time went by, in which I now wish I had just gotten up and left. I understand that things can get busy/go wrong with scheduling. The appropriate thing to do would either have been to just explain that she'd overbooked and re-schedule, or apologize and offer a discount. A little customer service goes a long way, and they easily could of made sure I still left happy. Neither of these things happened, so I wasted forty-five minutes of my time sitting and waiting. My appointment finally started almost half and hour late. I don't expect my hairdresser to be my bff, but I do expect a minimal level of customer service (smile and say hello). Kim didn't do this. She glanced at my hair, made a few disparaging remarks, and hastily began to cut after shampooing. I'm no hair expert, but I've had the same head of hair my entire life, so I have a pretty good idea of how haircuts on me should go. I have really thick hair that's tricky to cut, and so even taking off an inch or two when it's short should take an hour minimum for a good cut on me. Kim snipped away for less than twenty minutes, curled it so it was hard to see the edges, and called it a day (the curling was very cute). After I washed my hair the next day I could see the edges of the cut, and it was TERRIBLE. This was among the top worst haircuts I've ever had. It was so disappointing because this salon had such great reviews and I had researched so carefully. I finally found a wonderful place for a correction haircut (it took her 1.5 hours to fix), and the stylist was horrified. I will never go to this salon again, and wouldn't recommend it to anybody. Follow up: both the stylist and owner responded personally to this review with an apology and offer to comp a service. read more

I came here a few weeks ago and I've been meaning to write a review. Salon de Cheveux is amazing! I called that day hoping to get my hair cut and they were able to squeeze me in. Ali was my stylist and she was fantastic. She was so sweet to talk but more importantly is great at what she does. I love the cut she gave me especially because it's easy to style. Normally I get frustrated blowdrying with a round brush to make it perfect and reach for my flat iron. I'm not sure what she did but it's a breeze to style and Ive gotten so many compliments. Mandy always asks specific questions about my life and shares great insights into the neighborhood. During my last visit, I asked Mandy to make me look like a supermodel. I'm so pleased I went to Salon De Cheveux for the first time last week. The salon is really attractive and clean, the receptionist was very sweet and offered me water or coffee, got me acclimated to the way they run things (for example, they have a menu of shampoos/conditioners you can choose from for your initial wash). Colleen cut my hair and she was fantastic. She was really thorough in asking about how I usually style it and what I was looking for as well as being very careful to make sure my thick, wavy hair would fall nicely with the cut and I'd be able to continue growing it out without needing to keep getting it re-cut or styled. I've had trouble finding a salon that made me feel welcome in Southie (surprise surprise) but this place was such a welcome surprise! Also - super affordable. My stylist at Salon De Cheveux is Allison. I left a Newbury Street Salon where Allison was training over the past two years to receive the equivalent of a Master's Degree in cutting & styling. She choose cutting as her training component but is also an excellent colorist. When I found out she was coming to work at Salon De Cheveux in my neighborhood, I immediately called to set up an appointment. I knew her abilities before so it was an easy decision to move with her over to Salon De Cheveux. She is always making wonderful suggestions for my hair color and my cut is perfect. The shop is amazing and very clean. All of the women who work there are very professional, helpful and friendly. I went in to Salon de Chexeux after researching a salon in South Boston. I am really particular about my hair and had made a few changes the past few months and wanted to get back on track. First of all, even thought I had an appointment I still had to wait about 20 min to be served. The haircut itself - disaster! I dont know if the lady (dont remember her name) wasnt listening to what I was asking for or didnt understand me. Not only it was completely not what I wanted, the left and right side were not even! When I pointed that out and she tried to fix it, I had to stop her quickly - she was only making it worse. So now Im stuck with a horrible haircut until it grows back. Never again! read more

I absolutely love Salon De Cheveux. I had met the owner Mandy at another Southie salon and when I heard she was opening up one of her own I knew I had to check it out. My schedule and Mandy's never seemed to mesh so I was paired up with Allison. Allison is amazing. She is super sweet and knowledgeable. I had been box dying my hair and it was all sorts of terrible. Over time Allison helped my lighten up my color and made my hair healthy again. Every time I go to Salon De Cheveux the staff is super friendly. I have also had my hair cut and colored with Colleen and Ali and they are both great as well. Plus the oribe products are worth the extra $5, whenever I have them use oribe my blowout lasts for days. I never write reviews on yelp but I honestly feel like balling my eyes out right now so I'm hoping this will at least be cathartic in a way. I was so excited to come to this place all the way from downtown Boston because it has a five star rating but everything I told her to do, she did the opposite. I brought 4 pictures with me and made sure to show her how my hair naturally is and how little I want her to cut from it. I also wanted it to be shorter in the back and longer at the front and had a picture just to show her how it would look like just in case I wasn't being clear enough or there was any confusion. After confirming everything and making sure we were on the same page she washed my hair then began cutting it. It's so short in the front and LONGER IN THR BACK! Non of what we talked about happened. I wanted a really long bob cut and I got a super short one and I'm so miserable right now. The lady on the floral was very nice and all that and I was very excited when everything seemed to be going well at first then everything went downhill from there. I feel bad giving them one star but I thought I'd share just incase someone else goes there with very high expectations and comes out devastated. I would advise you to double and triple check that you're on the same page then while she's cutting make sure she lets you know what she's doing step by step. read more
