I started seeing Paige T back in February of 2017 and she has worked wonders on my hair. Paige listened to what I was going for and never disappoints. She has a vast knowledge of the best hair care products out there and always can recommend the product to work best for my hair type. Paige also has been able to provide hair treatments that have worked out great for me. Since I started going to Paige, people have noticed the difference in the healthiness of my hair. I had an absolutely TERRIBLE experience here. I asked for a full highlight to lighten my already blonde hair but instead, it was toned darker than when I walked in. When I voiced my concern, the stylist decided to strip the toner and all color -- including my natural color from my hair. This completely removed all dimension and left my once-beautiful blonde hair orange and yellow. No professional stylist should ever resort to stripping color like this. A few glosses could have easily corrected the tone -- and that's exactly what a far more qualified salon did afterwards. To make matters worse, after seeing the damage, they still suggested I come back in for a highlight... as if further bleaching on already stripped hair wouldn't cause serious harm. Anyone with basic color knowledge knows that would completely DESTROY the hair. I didn't have time to cancel the appointment, and I was STILL CHARGED for the service that left my hair DAMAGED. I left with broken strands, lost years of carefully maintained color, and a completely compromised hair texture. Some of the stylists here clearly lack the experience needed for proper color treatment. PLEASE do yourself a favor and stay far away. I have become a regular client at Nurture Salon & Spa. After having the utmost positive experience getting my hair colored, cut and styled back in January, I can't imagine going anywhere else! The staff is most welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere warm and upbeat. Joanna impressed me with her professionalism and top notch skills. She knew exactly how to manage my thick, curly, Latina hair without hesitation. I explained to her what I was hoping to accomplish and she got it beyond right the first time. I had requested a "sun kissed" natural looking balayage with a long layered cut. I expressed disappointment with past attempts elsewhere that left me with too blonde to brass highlights in my dark brown hair when I was leaning more towards caramel in my mind. Yesterday, I got the WORST, most atrocious hair cut from this salon. It's like the stylist, Emily, did not use her eyes--my hair is so unevenly hacked off where it should be even. I have never seen something so bad done by a "professional." The stylist blow dried it with a curl so you couldn't see the shoddy work when I left the salon. As the day went on, the blow dry curl wore off and I noticed the potential errors. When I reached home, I wet my hair and let it air dry (1st 2 photos) and then straigned my hair (2nd 2 photos). That's when I noticed how egregious the cut was. Upon first glance, you would think the salon's redo policy (a redo must be requested within 72 hours and booked with the same team member) is generous, but actually seems more like the owners expect clients to be unhappy with their initial service. And why would you want to rebook with the same stylist who did such a poor job? Absolutely not. Would not recommend--just cut your hair yourself at this point, you would probably do a better job. I now have to pay another $60 minimum to fix this distaster at another salon. read more

I went in for a trim on my bob. I always have the same haircut. I asked for an inch off and my curtain bangs trimmed. That was all I asked. I had reference photos of myself as I always get the same haircut. The woman who saw me, 30 minutes late mind you, starts HACKING away with the thinning shears. I did not ask for my hair thinned. At all. I then notice she's cutting the back shorter than the front so I speak up and say I like it all one length and she says "oh don't worry you'll love this". Okay, no. That's not what I asked for why are you dictating my haircut? I have the thinnest hair ever right now and ugly straight across bangs. I cried. It's rare that you get a friend to do your hair for your wedding day. It's even more rare when that friend just started out as your hair stylist a couple years ago. Nurture Salon is super convenient to my house, being just down the street, but even if I move away, I'll likely come back to Southie to get my hair done because of Paige Talbot and just the comfort I feel at the salon in general. It's bright and airy and clean and everyone that works there is super friendly and just pleasant to be around. I probably should have reviewed Nurture/Paige when she took my hair from brown/black to ashy blonde in one 7-hour session back in 2015. It isn't just that Paige is an incredible colorist/stylist (which she is), but she's also a fantastic resource for all things hair question related (cuts, extensions, glosses, products, ect.) and very knowledgeable about how to get the look you are going for and how to keep it looking the best it can. She's helped me keep my naturally dark brown hair a healthy, not brassy, ash blonde for almost 4 years now (with a random spurt of lavender thrown in for good measure in 2017). She's also pretty cool to chat with. :) Naturally, I was going to trust her with my wedding day hair. She drove to York, Maine bright and early so that we could be finished up by noon and brought everything she could possibly need. She also took my clip-in extensions a few days before to color them in the days leading up to the wedding without needing me there to match the color which was a huge help and they came out PERFECTLY. The other girls, whose hair she did, loved how they came out and I was so happy with everyone's dos! I highly recommend booking at Nurture, as all of the stylists come highly recommended. I drive by this salon almost once a week on my way to Soul Cycle in Seaport and it always looks so nice inside. Since I was in dyer need of a haircut, and wanted my hair back to "healthy" again, I decided to make an appointment with this salon for the very fist time. I do typically see another hair stylist at a different salon, but I needed a change, I wanted a different look. And, the yelp reviews of this salon were over the top in 5 star reviews. So, when I made my appointment with Erin for a haircut last evening, I knew that I was in good hands. I was able to get a parking spot right out front, but this may not happen all the time since parking in South Boston can be tough. My appointment was in the afternoon so many people are at work at this time, so finding parking wasn't bad at all. I was a few minutes early, so I waited on their comfy couches and read some magazines. I got my hair washed by one person but then cut by another. When I sat in her chair, I showed Erin one picture and she did exactly what I asked. It actually looks better than the pic. The price was pretty reasonable with other salons so I was happy about that. And, I was out within 40 minutes or so. I look forward in going back for a color. If you live in the area or even if you don't, I would check out this salon for all your hair needs. They use Kevin Murphy products which smell and feel great! read more

After reading -- literally -- only positive reviews about Paige Talbot, I knew I would be in good hands. I hadn't had my hair done in months so I had these awkward, gross roots, but Paige brought my hair back to life!! Not only does the color look phenomenal but I feel like I got an all over makeover. I came here back in the Fall because it's super close to my apartment and needed a new hair place. The salon itself is a great location/nice ambience etc. I came in for a hair cut and was so so disappointed. I told her exactly what I wanted and made it very clear (I thought). All I wanted was like 4 inches off. No specially angles/bangs/even layers. I ended up wasting 1.5 hours there/like 70$ listening to her talk about her "roots in southie/family etc." -with out stopping for a breath/to ask me if a) I liked it b) if I even wanted her to blow dry/flat iron. If you're going to charge top dollar for hair cuts then make sure every single customer gets a top dollar hair cut and service. read more

I have been going to Nurture for about a year and was always very impressed. Everyone has been helpful and friendly. Mandy is an excellent stylist. However, this week, the week before my wedding mind you, there was a mistake in scheduling. Essentially someone gave me a card months ago with the 29th instead of the 28th written down. No big deal, I totally understand and would be flexible about it. However, the night that they had me scheduled to come in a VERY RUDE male receptionist called to chastise me for not being there. I went to my folder and checked the date on the card that I was given, it was definitely for the next day. The receptionist fought me over this but finally said 'ok, just come in Thursday at 6:00". I was flustered and overwhelmed, mainly because of the this guys beyond rude attitude. Come Thursday I remembered that we had set up a meeting with the DJ for Thursday evening and I could not make the newly set up appointment. I called around 5:00 (admittedly not optimal timing) but considering that I had been more than understanding about their mistake I think they could have cut me some slack. I again got the same UNBELIEVABLY RUDE receptionist. He freaked out on me for not calling earlier and then essentially hung up on me. No attempt to reschedule (not that I want to after that exchange). So now I will have no pre-wedding haircut and will likely never go back to Nurture. This is unfortunate because other than this I have had great experiences there. I believe this receptionist is relatively new and hopefully will not last long. I'm honestly not a complainer. Yet this guy upset me so much that I actually joined yelp just so I warn others about him. How dare he hang up on a client?! Especially after the original problem was they're mistake?! I was excited to go to Nurture. My sister gets her hair cut there and raves. I accidentally got a gift certificate there (my mother, with the best of intentions, meant to get it for Spa Christine for me to get my eyebrows done. After reading the waxing reviews on Yelp, however, I decided to just stick with a mani-pedi.) Anyway, I made my appointment for the same day, late in the afternoon. The woman on the phone was very friendly, if a little slow. My hopes were high. I arrive a few minutes before my appointment time and somehow manage to enter through the wrong door. Apparently they have two? So I had to awkwardly sidle myself through the hair salon part and down a hallway to get to the reception desk. Once there, I was greeted promptly and directed to the waiting area, as my nail tech, Danielle, was just finishing someone's makeup. If you're expecting a relaxing experience, don't. The waiting room, or area really, is actually just a section of hallway with an alcove for two sofas to sit across from each other, as everyone in the salon troops by repeatedly. Granted, not the biggest of problems, but still awkward. Danielle came over a few minutes after my scheduled appointment time (again, not a huge deal) and lead me over to the nail bar. The "nail room" I guess it would be called was literally just a small alcove set back from the hallway. There were some curtains that Danielle half-closed that sort of made the fact that I was essentially sitting in a hallway slightly less awkward, but I was still basically sitting in a hallway. I was directed to sit in a giant (albeit comfortable) armchair that reclined for the treatment. I've had a lot of pedicures in my life, but never one not in a pedicure chair. Still, not a deal breaker yet. Danielle was very personable discussing her kids and asking me about myself, and the pedicure and manicure went well (the manicure was achieved by bringing over a tv-tray type table in front of the armchair) and everything seemed to be going fine. At the end of the manicure, Danielle busied herself cleaning up and I waited for my nails to dry. She was in and out of the room picking up towels and whatnot, so I sort of just waited for her to check my nails. Then I noticed that she hadn't been in the room in quite some time, so not knowing what else to do, I check that my nails are dry and then slide the table out of my way, take off my tissue toenail separators, slide on my flip flops and walk to the front desk. Danielle is there, chatting it up with the receptionist and checking her phone. Apparently the appointment was over? I pay ($55 for a mani-pedi, not bad for the service I expected to receive, ridiculous for the service I did receive) and tip her a little too generously and leave. I check my nails when I get home and I realize that the actual painting of the nails was terrible. Missed spots, thin coat in some spots, and the nails were shabbily filed, both hands and toes. My appointment was yesterday and the paint has already chipped on several fingers. The little things added up to not be a disappointing (and certainly not relaxing) experience. Overall it wasn't terrible, just not worth the money. Next time I'll pay the $31 for a mani-pedi at the cheap place and at least expect that sort of result, not somewhere that charges $55 for it. read more

Searching for a 'salon', normally the exclusive domain of women can be a daunting task for even the bravest of men. After an exhaustive search spanning several months and ranging from Newbury Street to Cambridge, I finally found what I was looking for less than two blocks from my apartment. Nurture salon in South Boston is a good mix of salon style with barber shop prices. This hidden gem stays open until 8 pm or later on weeknights, making it a favorite with the 9-5 crowd. The interior is comfortable and airy with high ceilings and good natural light. Susan, the owner, is talented and friendly. The only negative and I'm not even sure it qualifies as a negative, is that Nurture is so popular you have to make appointments weeks in advance, which is a strange idea for guys who are used to walk-in appointments. Guys, if you are looking for a place to get a good hair cut and not feel weird and out of place, Nurture might be the place for you. read more

I was giddy with excitement the whole walk home from Nurture Salon & Spa that I knew I had to come share this life changing experience. I realize that's a bit extreme, but if you have curly hair you'll soon understand why! I'm so thankful it was raining today, otherwise I would not have taken Kasey up on trying out the Deva Curl products on my curly hair. Typically my favorite part about a hair cut is the blow dry, like most curly-haired-ladies, I'm assuming. Kasey walked me through the Deva Curl product like I was talking to an old friend about her hair tips. Apparently there's even a specific type of hair cut that goes along with the product! Who knew?! Anyway, I cringed as she was putting me under the heat knowing what comes next...frizz party. Complete opposite. My curls have never looked so soft and nourished. I left the salon with the Deva Curl products (there's a shampoo, conditioner, and gel treatment). It was my first experience at Nurture Salon and I will definitely be trying it out again. MASSAGE REVIEW ONLY : I wanted to give a review of the amazing massage that I just had with Jean. I feel so much better and it was one of the best massages I have received, well - ever! In fact I bought a package of massages and will be going back for more. IMO, here is what made it great: 1) Jean was very thorough with asking questions before we started. She wanted to know about every ache and pain, where to focus, etc. I hate when massage places just plop you on the table and give the standard massage without asking about problem areas. She even asked if it was okay to massage the glutes- explaining that could be causing some of my problems. Keepin' it classy, Jean! Sometimes the massage therapists sneak up on your bum and its a little bit of a surprise, but this time I knew it was coming! 2) She knows her stuff. You can tell Jean has a lot of experience and knows the muscles and bones in and out. Every place I had a knot and asked her about, she explained where it was, why it hurt, etc. 3) She uses a GOOD and APPROPRIATE AMOUNT of massage cream. It doesn't smell but most importantly- I hate getting a massage where they grease you up like Taj in the scene from Van Wilder. I was not greasy at all when we were done. 4) She talked with me after the massage to really give me helpful tips on what to do at home, stretchign etc. She wasn't trying to rush me out, even though her shift had already ended. 5) I feel AMAZING! I have tons of knots in my shoulders and chronic neck pain. RIght now I feel completely relaxed and no pain at all. When the massage was coming to an end I was praying to sweet baby Jesus that it could go on for just 5 more minutes. I am counting down until my next appt. I just wanted to give a shout out to Nurture Salon on Lst again. My daughter turns 4 months old today, and lets just say I have not been feeling or looking good in a L O N G time. Susan (the owner), stayed late to accommodate my new mom schedule, and pampered me for the whole session. She is fantastic at not only cutting hair, but just making you feel wonderful, which is something I really needed. I walked home feeling pretty for the first time in months, and my husband loved my look! And perhaps best of all, her cuts are always so good that they last and last, and are not the kind that you wash for the first time and realize that a large mistake was made ;) Since my last review there is a new front desk woman who is so friendly and wonderful. This is a southie gem! I moved here and was scared to go anywhere to get my hair done because I had been going to the same person for so many years. Now I won't go anywhere but Nurture! Paige is amazing she cleaned up my dead ends abs gave me a great fresh cut. She gave me honest advice and I didn't feel pressured to cut my hair a certain way! I see Paige ever six weeks and am in love with how my hair looks and feels. They have great products too, which add to the beauty of my locks. Although they are non-refundable, Erin was kind enough to not only squeeze me in that very day, but remove the extensions, color and cut my hair for free as a courtesy. I finally found my new hairdresser, Neri! She is amazing!! I am in my 30's and have never had my hair cut the way she did (weird, I know) Literally the best hair dye/cut I have ever had. She listened to what I wanted (little maintenance and infrequent trips to the salon) and actually delivered in an amazing way! Not like some hairdressers who dye your hair so you need to come in every few months. I have brown hair and she did wonders. Definitely suggest Neri for any hair needs.
