i waited to come here a 2nd time before finally writing a review because i am over the top obsessive about my hair and could not endorse someone without going to them more than once... carlos gallegos: you are my man... i have been wandering around aimlessly for almost the last 10yrs without a real "person" to go to, and as a result, i only get my hair cut about once every 9mo... my former person was at salon sessions in pasadena, but i was never too pleased with their work (don't even get me started on their coloring).. it was one of those places where you go back b/c it's certainly not bad and you're too scared to trust another place with your one and only head of hair--know what i mean? i have long, thick, unruly asian hair that is loosely permed and, like i said before, i'm a nutbag about my hair... am i a difficult client? hell yes... anyways, to be fair, i told all of this to carlos (including the nutbag part), and he was very attentive... he listened to all of my concerns, which is normal enough.. however, after all was said and done, i think i got one of the best hair cuts i've had in YEARS.. no joke... i could give a hoot that two security guards in my downtown la office building asked me whether i did something to my hair b/c i look really nice; or that nearly every secretary in my office commented on my new do---I LOVE IT... and that's really all that matters.. the rest is just gravy... and lots of it ;) to top it off, he's funny as hell, fun to talk to, and gives a great scalp massage when washing your hair.. wash, cut and dry was about $60-70, which i think is average these days... read more

I love this salon! It's extremely clean and the decor is really nice. Even though it's not a huge place, it seemed very spacious. When I called for an appointment, the receptionist was nice, friendly, and very competent. In most of these reviews, it seems that all the stylists are extremely talented. Selene cut my hair and I LOVE it!! She gave me exactly what I wanted, a very textured, medium-length cut. It's so hard to find a stylist that actually listens and gives you the cut you ask for. I went for the first time last week and I fell in love! Before my session, I had been going to a cheap salon that ruined my blonde hair, leaving it to be three colors. This is "The BEST " new hair salon in Pasadena!!! I've been going here pretty regularly since it opened. I go to Gilbert, but from what I've seen, all the stylists do a very nice job. Every client comes out of there looking fabulous! The ambiance is modern, yet comfortable. The staff is very welcoming & attentive. Truth be told, I only came to Salon De La Cruz because there was a Groupon deal and what a deal it was, not only was the price unbeatable, but it brought me to the best stylist I've had in a LONG time; ERIC. Oh and I love, love, love his humor and his excellent people skills. My appointment was at 3:45 and I was greeted with some very friendly faces and after filling out a small form, I was in the chair within minutes. Eric asked me what I wanted, proceeded with a wash & deep conditioning & HELLO MAGIC FINGERS! LOVE this salon!!! Selene has been my hairdresser for years and when I found out she moved to another salon I made sure to follow. From the moment I called to make my initial appointment, I was treated like royalty. The receptionist was super accommodating over the phone and in person, the atmosphere of the salon was intimate and welcoming, the magazines were up to date, the beverage selections were top-notch, there's plenty of parking nearby and there is a lovely Argentinian restaurant just next door that delivers right to the salon! How could you go wrong? I would absolutely recommend this salon to anyone (in fact I already recommended it to a friend) and I would definitely make it a point to see Selene. So I just finished a bad review for Pet's Delight and now I would like to give a GREAT review for Salon De La Cruz! These folks rock it! I met them when they worked at Ravissant in Old Town Pasadena and the energy between them is fun and very comfortable. Selene is my gal!! I am forever changing up my hair style and color and she is always up for the challenges I bring her....(such as when I don't come see her in between cuts for a bang trim...oopsie!) She is attentive and takes her time. She always makes sure to ask me before we begin whatever service I am getting how I am liking my current style, color and if we need to change anything. I get lots of compliments...so she's doing everything right! :) Regina will take care of you when you make your appointment and when you arrive she will greet you with a smile and ask if you want a beverage. She's really sweet and fun! This is not just a "cool" salon but it's a family salon too. Again, it's got good energy and a great vibe. Parking can be a bit chalenging on Green St. (or maybe it's only when I come!) lol *wink wink Regina and Selene ;-) but its easy to find more and it's only a short walk if you need to. I have been going to this salon since it opened. The owners and staff are super friendly and talented. I followed my stylist Selene here and she is THE BEST I've ever had (I've been with her for the past 6 years). She's friendly, fashionable and very talented at what she does. I trust her to the utmost with my hair. I have had everything from HOT pink to Turquoise highlights during my pretty punk stage. To low maintenance one color pregnant/new mommy hair and everything else in between. She doesn't push hair products on you and she is VERY RESPECTFUL TO YOUR HAIR WISHES. I loved her flat iron and when I asked her about where to get one, she told me that you couldn't get it in any of the regular salon stores and then offered to order one for me to purchase and I took her up on it. It is the BEST flat iron! She would never do anything drastic (unless you ask her to ... and it will look fabulous) and she gives constructive suggestions when discussing what to do with your hair and if you aren't sure what you want. She knows me so well, that I can tell her to do what she wants (and its usually anywhere from little or a lot different from the color or style that I had before) and I'm ALWAYS HAPPY. Just got hair color corrected by Berenice and once again she knocked it out of the park! I was so nervous and anxious about trying to get back to a more natural color after years of bright copper so I went in for a color consultation and Berenice talked with me, and took some pictures so she could think on the best approach since it was a more difficult situation then most. She called me a few days later with a plan and we discussed it and scheduled it. When I came in for my appointment I was still pretty nervous, I don't often pay to have my hair professionally colored so having it turn out great was really imporant to me, but it turned out way better than I expected. WAY BETTER! Not to mention the cut. If you need to have your hair cut, colored or color corrected you will not be disappointed by going to Berenice. She is fantastic!!! read more

I spend 1+ hour with her. She was so sweet and kind the entire time, and at the end she took the time to curl my short hair so I would know how to do it. I love Salon De La Cruz and wouldn't go anywhere else. The service is amazing. The place is beautifully decorated and I have never walked away unsatisfied. I actually don't even walk in there with any ideas. I tell either Marissa or Gilbert to "do something fun" and I ALWAYS get compliments when I get home and at work the next day. My 5 year old daughter has dome some modeling and I take her there also. My experience at Salon de la Cruz was amazing. I relocated to Pasadena in August, and bought a Groupon for this salon to try it out and find my new go-to place. Berenice did my hair and did an amazing job!!! She listened to what I wanted and made some great suggestions. My cut came out amazing. My groupon included a deep conditioning treatment...which made my hair soft. Maybe because my hair is thin, it has made me greasy for a few days. Totally not their fault, Berenice did a great job, and she warned me the deep conditioner would weigh me down...but probably would have opted out of it. I'm hooked! The location is charming and ideal with lots of street parking, coffee within walking distance and not a lot of Pasadena traffic. The salon is always clean, comfortable and decorated with great taste! I'm always greeted with a smile and offered a beverage. There's a great "family" vibe here and I pretty much go to hang out and chit chat while I get my hair done. Marissa has been cutting, coloring and styling my hair for several years and I don't know what I would do without her! I would follow her anywhere, so when she made the move to Salon De La Cruz, I happily followed and so many perks came along with the move! A cleaner, hipper salon, a super friendly receptionist, and better parking! Marissa is great with color and highlights. She took me from red to brunette and back to red without damaging my hair. I was hesitant about stripping the color, but she managed the process just right to ensure that my hair didn't get fried. I was amazed with the results. Whenever I'm hankering for a change in color she achieves exactly what I describe! Marissa is also great with the scissors! Unlike every other hairstylist I've been to in the past, she never cuts off too much. Not only is Marissa talented with color and the scissors she creates the MOST AMAZING red-carpet worthy up-dos! If you need your hair done for a wedding, prom, or other special event--Marissa should be your go-to person! I go to Salon De La Cruz all the time. Bernice is the best hair stylist there. I have done Highlights, Cut, Hair extension, and Updo with Bernice and I always came out happy. She is the best. She will never give you a false promise. If she knows what you are asking for your hair is not good for the health of you hair, she will not do it and she will give you an explanation of why she won't do what you are asking. I used to go to any barber shop to get a cut.I always thought salons were just for women, but I never knew what I was missing until I came here to SDLC; and now, I will never go anywhere else. Being a young entrepreneur, I like to stay up to trend but at the same time professional. Gil cut and styled my hair accordingly, rather than what typical barber shops do for men. Berenice is absolutely amazing! I moved to Pasadena about 3 years ago and grew tired of traveling to my old hair stylist in Valencia every 4 weeks. I was referred to Berenice by a stranger who had beautiful hair and I happened to ask her who did her hair. Berenice completely turned my dry and brittle hair into healthy and shiny hair with beautiful color! The Salon is classy and clean. The staff are all very friendly and from the moment you walk in they ask you if you'd like some coffee or water and make you feel comfortable. After a handful of friends reccomended me to Gil, I decided to go try him out. My bangs were super short and unruly... needless to say I didn't think there was any way Gil could possibly transform them into big, full side swept bangs. I went on a Friday afternoon around noon. The place was pretty empty except for a two women getting their hair done, it seemed as if Gil was multitasking and dying one womans hair then running over and blow drying another womans. I waited for about 10 minuets (even with an appointment) before his assistant washed my hair. She seemed pretty new and a little uncomfortable washing hair. Anyways, when Gil finally got to me, he was great. really friendly and knew exactly what I wanted! After he was done with the cut and 3/4 of the blowout, he had his assistant take over who did an uneven job finishing my blowout - half my head was curly and half was straight. The actual haircut turned out great though so I didn't really mind the awkward assistant. Overall, a good experience. $55 for an hour of my day and great new bangs! read more

I got a groupon to this salon and figured I would give it a try. I saw Marissa and she listened to my concerns and problems with my hair, and she got it! I left with amazing color and an awesome cut. I can't do my hair wrong- it looks great if I let it air dry, if I dry it, if I straight iron it. That is what I need, fool proof hair. I even scheduled my next appt. which I NEVER do. Jenna is the best!!! I've been to a lot of salons and had many stylists cut my hair but it never turned out quite the way I wanted until I met Jenna. She deeply conditioned my damaged hair which made a significant improvement. She took the time to listen to how I liked my hair and also gave me her input. During the hour I was there, I felt very much at home there due to Jenna's down to earth personality. Because of her amazing haircut, my hair is bouncy and healthy again. I became a client of Jenna's maybe close to a year ago. Through Groupon. Her cuts were good, her hair coloring never what I exactly wanted, but nothing horrible that wouldn't have me give her another chance. She was pleasant enough, price good... Then my last appointment about a week ago- I scheduled the exact thing I had prior- a root touch up with highlights around my face. I told Jenna that this time I would like her to not leave me so 'strawberry' as last time. She said she spoke to her boss, and had a better ashy color for me. On my appointment day, she did my roots, and was ready to bypass the highlights. Stating something along the lines that the ones there wouldn't be affected by the root job. Okayyyy... Then as she was blow drying me, she asked if I had time for the highlights. Of course I did-that was what I scheduled originally. She rushed, and I was done in an hour (not the 30 minutes she first said). When I checked out, I didn't register the price and left the customary 20% I always do. Online banking later on showed me the charge and I called to get the breakdown- I was charged double for the highlight- not what I wanted. Jenna never told me she planned to do more highlights than last time, hence the higher cost. My hair looked better the previous coloring session. So, I was more strawberry than last time, and when I went to do my hair the next day, I saw a pretty big disconnect from the root on one side of my part. A sign of the rush job. Amateurish. I texted Jenna about this and asked when I could come in to get this fixed. Instead of any apology, or fitting me in, I was told about no available times for when I wanted, and that if I wanted a blow dry, I would be charged. Excuse me? Ummm, no. Maybe the owner needs to school his employees on customer service, because this is not how it is done, my friends. I texted Jenna that I wouldn't be coming back and would leave a review on yelp. It was then that she apologized, and almost frantically asked that I not leave a negative review. My mistake is always giving another chance and giving good tips when not deserved. My bad, 100%. Mr. Owner- you may want to invest in a staff meeting on customer relations instead of decor. I will not be back. read more

I absolutely love Berenice and was so sad when the other salon she worked at closed. While it was much more convenient for me she is totally worth the drive to Pasadena. I have fine thin hair and I have had my share of bad haircuts and have severe trust issues when it comes to my hair. Berenice has a wonderful understanding of all hair types and is also a-mazing with color. I'm not a huge fan of Pasadena but the fact that it's not in the heart of old town is a huge plus for me. The are located in the land of one way streets but luckily they have detailed directions on parking on their website. It's a cute little salon and seems pretty busy all the time. Salon De La Cruz is awesome. I called to make an appointment and the lady who answered was very friendly and I was able to make an appointment on the same day. Regarding parking, if you're lucky you can find parking right in front of the salon. If not i'd suggest to park on Cordova ,there is also a small food area on Cordova and Lake, easy parking you just have to walk a block. One i got there, the receptionist helped me out and introduced me to Bernice. Bernice is awesome. Very friendly and listened to what I wanted. I LOVED how my hair turned out and i love the way she blow dried it too. The salon is very modern with an artistic touch. I definitely will be coming back.
