Worst blow out of my life. Only reason for one star is the fact they took me as a walk in, but I wish I would've walked out. My stylist Teresa was a very nice lady, but holy hell she gave the worst blow out. First off they don't wash your hair well. Got my shirt soaked and when I requested for sulfate free shampoo it wasn't an option. All i wanted was a simple blow out. It usually takes with wash max an hour m, but typically 45 min. I was in the chair for over an hour and hAd half my head still to go. She started with round brush and then switched to flat and that's when it all went down hill. I told her and showed her photos of how my blow outs are usually done. I never ever have a problem, but here was a different story. When I touched my hair with the "done pieces" it was still wet. When I told her "hey my hair looks really puffy and no shape" she insisted she wasn't finished. Mid way I almost walked out, but tried to give her benefit of the doubt. When I was done, I was in shock. My hair legit looks like when I air dry it, but ten times worst. Her fix was to apply tons of Morrcain oil and hair spray, which I refused. When I went to pay the salt and pepper front desk guy kept telling me my cc didn't go through. I checked chase app and saw the charge pending and approved. this morning I work up and had 4 transactions! Ugh just never go here. Terrible terrible terrible. read more

I moved to the city a couple months ago from Jersey and was looking for a weekly blow-out spot. I stumbled upon Salon de Louie and was luckily set up with Elena. I have come back every week since. Her work is better than any blow-out bar I have ever been too, and I must say the wash is the favorite part of my week. She takes her time and does a fantastic job. I have had my fair share of blow out blunders, as I have long thick curly hair. I always pray the stylist has experience with manes like mine, as it can be a challenge. Elena was able to give me Pantene Pro V commercial hair, full of bounce and just the right amount of volume. Without fail my blow out lasts all week, and still holds the bottom bounce like the first day. She's amazing! If you're need of a blow for any occasion, go see Elena. THE OWNER CHARGED ME OVER $60 FOR A BLOWOUT. NO CUT, NO COLOR, NO SALON PRODUCTS, AND I STILL LOOKED HORRIBLE. OVER $60. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!! Read below for additional details: Can you just admit that you don't do ethnic hair instead of doing a horrible job on a blowout, upcharging me an additional $20 for using a flatiron (even though you did a terrible job of blowing out my 4B hair) and then blaming me when it's time to pay the bill? Women of color - do NOT come here. As soon as I sat down in the chair with the older hairstylist, she mentioned that I should relax my hair to make it more "manageable". It didn't appear that English was her first language, so I'm sure she didn't understand the underlying racism in that statement, or how inferring that curly/kinky hair is somehow undesirable is problematic, so I uncomfortably sat in silence as she blowdried my hair. Kinky/curly hair requires high heat and a certain type of brush for the blowout to hold. She used cheap Garnier Fructis products on my hair as "heat protectant" and was too scared to get close to the roots of my hair to straighten it. I ended up with kinky roots and straight ends. She wasn't able to blowdry any of the baby hair and blamed it on my "short and curly hair". I told her it was unacceptable to let me leave the salon looking less than a 10, and she said they'd upcharge me for using the hair straightener. Listen - if you had blowdried my hair correctly, you wouldn't need the hair straightener. Yet here we are. It's not my fault that you need to use an additional tool so I shouldn't be the one paying for your faux pas. The owner, an older short and squat character, walked over and told me that he wouldn't charge me for the straightening. After less than 10 minutes of using the hair straightener, I looked in the mirror and still looked embarrassingly bad. I was furious and wanted to leave, so the owner took my card without telling me the price (seems to be a trend, read the other reviews), then asked me to put in my pin. IT WAS OVER $60. FOR AN AWFUL BLOWOUT THAT DIDN'T EVEN STRAIGHTEN MY HAIR! I mentioned the price and the owner told me he was actually "giving me a deal" by not charging me over $20 for the add-on flat iron service. What happened to you not charging me for the flatiron service since you KNEW the blowout was bad??? Where is your integrity??? Have you ever heard of a place charging $40 for a blowout with an additional $20+ just to use a hair straightener?!?!? NO CUT, NO COLOR, NO EXPENSIVE HIGH END PRODUCTS, AND I STILL LOOKED LIKE CRAP. SCAM ARTIST. SCAM. RUN AWAY. DON'T LOOK BACK AND DON'T COME HERE. read more

Living in the financial district, I will admit, there are not a ton of options when it comes to salons, but having said that, Jose is better than ANY hairdresser I've ever had, and I've lived basically everywhere in Manhattan AND can speak to both the $250 haircuts, all the way down to the $30 Supercut....so, I'm givin' pearls of wisdom, here ;-). The new John David DeLouie salon is always very clean, and the staff is very nice and accommodating. The prices are reasonable for a cut/style/blowdry, and if you make an appointment, Jose is always VERY good at managing his calendar (it's never like a doctor's office where you have to wait an extra hour or anything like that....which I've had to do at other salons all the time). But to bring the point home: Jose is just....the best. I will admit, I was a little bit hesitant to write a review because I don't want Jose to get TOO popular, and TOO busy for me when I roll in last minute asking him to work his magic on me lol, but he really is such a great stylist, he warrants the praise. He's done every kind of style and cut imaginable on me- from the sleek bobs, to temporary hair extensions that have lasted through photo shoots, pool parties and even windy rooftop bbq's- not a hair-outta-place!! He has a very unique technique with his extension application, and I've gone to a LOT of stylists, but NONE of them are as amazing as Jose, and I will NEVER go to anyone else. And with that, I will tell you that when I move in the summer, I will STILL be trecking allllllllll the way down to the financial district so he can do my hair- and for a New Yorker, THAT'S saying something :). read more

Avoid this salon at all costs. I grew out my hair long and thick during quarantine by using constant masks and hair oils. I then made the mistake of walking into this salon to ask for layers. I left without getting a blow dry only to realize later on that my hair was completely ruined. The owner would not give me a refund so I had to dispute the charge through my credit card company which agreed that I should not pay for this haircut. Subsequent hair stylists looked at my hair absolutely horrified. This was hands down the worst experience of my life in terms of service/beauty/anything. My hair probably won't be back to normal for another year or so. Sad. read more

My hair needs are pretty simple. I don't color it; it's long; and so, I only get it cut/trimmed every few months. I also generally prefer to style my hair myself; so, the styling I've had done here has been minimal. However, the hair cuts here are great, and the stylists really know their stuff in terms of how to shape layers as they are, and ensuring they are cut so they look great as they grow. I am always impressed with how courteous the staff is, be it the owner or the stylists. And, the best part is that by NYC standards, the prices are very fair. They charge per service, unlike a lot of places who charge a flat rate for a hair cut regardless of whether or not they dry it. Not here. The pricing is all separate, so regardless of budget or needs, you can always get a great hair cut! They also have a really great selection of hair products, too. An overall great place! read more

I was possibly scammed but a haircut, blow out, roots touch up, toner and some treatment cream was part of the ordeal and took about 3 hours. The hair dresser was really sweet and took her time as well as the girl who washed my hair. Walk ins are welcomed, saw more than one come in and when I first came to inquire the day before they wanted to get the stuff I wanted done then and there. I am content with the job, but definitely not happy with the $400 bill. I am pretty positive I could've done it elsewhere for cheaper and still looked great but in another occasion.
