This "stylist" did not know how to curl hair, did the wrong style, and burnt hairspray into my hair so now I have to get it cut because it stinks really bad, even after washing. I've been going to Drybar for years and have always had two small rows of extensions because my hair is extremely thin. Today, at 7 1/2 months pregnant, I walked all the way to my appointment in the heat while dealing with road closures for the 4th , only to be told after I arrived that I have "too much hair" and needed to book a different appointment because they didn't have enough time. No one has ever told me this before in all the years I've been coming here. If there are appointment limitations for clients with extensions, that should be communicated clearly when booking--not after the customer has made the trip. The lack of consideration and customer service was incredibly disappointing, especially given my pregnancy. I left feeling like my time didn't matter. Unfortunately, this experience has ensured I won't be returning. There are plenty of other excellent salons in Jersey City that value their customers' time and communicate expectations upfront. read more

I had such a wonderful first time at Blo! Here's a rundown of what I got... First off, I walked in and it was a very bright space with a good vibe. There was only one person staffed to work, but it was also Monday morning, so not exactly the busiest time haha! I met my stylist Jacob (such a kind and wonderful soul!) who guided me through a quick consult before the hair wash. Afterwards, he got right to work on the blowout. Overall, he did such a gorgeous job on my blowout and went above and beyond to not only blow out the hair but also curl it. I asked for blowout with body and he did a fantastic job, though I wish I had a tad more volume on the roots. I tried not to touch my hair as much as possible so the curls would hold, but they unfortunately didn't hold mainly on the left side... perhaps because my hair naturally curls in the other direction. The nice thing was that the blowout was so great that my hair still looked sleek and pretty. In the future, maybe I'll ask for a blowout with volume and body with no additional curling, just the round brush? We'll try out something new. Overall, I'm glad I came. What better way to start a weekend girls trip than with a blow out? Blo blow dry bar is always reliable and this location was no different. My friend and I called the day before to make an appointment when we saw this spot was right by our hotel. Both of us got wonderful blow outs with volume and service was so friendly. I will say, this location needs a bit of TLC. It isn't dirty by any means, but you can see some of the chairs and tables are a bit worn and banged up . I have fairly fine hair and curls never hold on me, but when I explained to the girl doing my hair she curled it with an iron and the final result was amazing and lasted for a day and a half on me (which is a long time for my hair). Seems like a convenient spot if you're staying or working in the financial district as they are speedy with service. read more

This place looks like a hole in the wall and the shampoo chairs are faded and ripped but I had SUCH a good experience. I didn't catch the name of my stylist (long hair wearing a bandana) but he was great. We barely talked about what I wanted and I totally forgot to show him a picture but somehow I walked out with exactly what I wanted. I didn't get the offer of champagne/etc. that is typical at a Blo location, and the salon could use a touch-up, but given this was a last minute appointment after my normal stylist canceled, I was very pleasantly surprised and would recommend! read more

If I could give half stars, I would give this a 3.5 out of 5 The pros - this location is really convenient especially if you work downtown in the financial area. It is also a block from the large Fulton subway hub (2, 3, 4, 5, A, C, J, R, and Z). All of the prices are listed online when you book which is helpful. A regular blow-out is $59 ($61 after NYC taxes). It was very easy to make an appointment online and there were tons of time slots available. The hair wash products left my hair super soft and the scalp massage was incredible. My stylist, Dainea, was friendly and easy to talk to. The appointment was booked for 45 mins and that was exactly how long it took. Checkout was easy and you can tip on your card or by venmo. The cons - this location is very worn down and could definitely use a reno. There were floor boards missing by one of the styling chairs, the trash can in the bathroom was overflowing, and the floors were pretty dirty by a 5pm appointment. The styling tools, however, were clean. Unfortunately the light curl blowout style I went with completely fell out after an hour or two. Maybe they just didn't use enough setting spray for the summer humidity, but that was a let down. I would still come back for the price and ease of location for a quick blow-out, just recommend asking for more styling products or hairsprays. read more

The staff are really lovely and friendly. No fault there. My blowout was lovely leaving shop. I got the "Colour wow" anti-humidity treatment which lasts "3 to 4 washes". It didn't even last 40 minutes. I think the spray she added at end to "give it texture" instead made me look like I had poofy dry hair. I figured when I shampooed it would look better. Nope. First time using this branch and won't be back. Better to drag myself across town then pay 80 bucks plus tip for frizz. read more

She gave me a 50s pin curl when I asked for loose waves and when I complained and asked for her to fix it she got extremely angry. I have asked for the same thing with every other blowout and no one else has ever made my hair look this ridiculous and terrible with the exact same instructions I gave this time. While still asking if they could fix my hair because I had a wedding to get to, Renee basically threw me out of the salon. I thought she was going to hit me if I stayed. Avoid this salon at all costs UPDATE: This place is more criminal than I originally thought. After telling me I wouldn't be charged they have now charged my credit card. Will of course dispute the charge as fraud but had to share how unbelievably ridiculous this place is. I went to get a wash and blow out at I have just moved to the area. When I arrived at the door, the front desk lady was on her phone with earphones in and did not see me trying to get in. Another stylist who was with a client at the time had to open the door for me. When I walked in, I was not greeted by front desk. She just said my name and told me where to sit. I instantly felt uncomfortable. She then spent her time remaining on her phone and eating pizza with her ear phones in. I decided to come to Blo after several terrible experiences at Drybar. I've been going to Drybar for years but the level of service has gone down and the salon is always a chaotic mess. Blo on Nassau St was a welcome change from the mess that is Drybar. It's tiny so you don't have 25 people doing hair at once. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The entire salon was clean as well and the bathroom is adorable. I showed up a few minutes early and my appointment started immediately. I received a great blowout. Their prices are the same as Drybar's but you will have a much better experience. Dump Drybar and come here. read more

This was the worst blowout i have ever experienced. He turned my hair into a frizzy mess and when i insisted upon it being fixed the stylist proceeded to scorch me with a flat iron for an hour, ripping my hair out with a broken comb, burning my ear twice and still failing to make my hair look even remotely presentable. The walls and vents are literally covered with dust bunnies, the floors are all ripped up and duct taped together. It's seriously repulsive. They definitely could not pass a health inspection. The three staff spent the entire time sitting around talking trash about their manager behind her back and coming up with ways to trick her into getting out of work. DO NOT COME HERE -- NIGHTMARE PRE WEDDING UPDO I came in for an updo for my best friend's wedding (I was the MOH). I checked out the hairstyle before I left and it looked fine. As soon as I got back to the hotel the hairspray they used set and I had WHITE CLUMPS in my hair that made my hair look like it was a RAT'S NEST. The stylist essentially did not smooth out my hair. I was on a time crunch so I did not have time to go back and fix it. To make matters worse I called the next day to ask for a refund. They did say they would give me a refund, but my fellow bridesmaid who came and got her forehead BURNT was told she was on drugs, probably lied about the burn by burning herself with her own iron. They eventually did give us a refund. The BRIDE was SO UPSET with how we looked and how we were treated that she called Blo Bar on her honeymoon. Overall I really like this place and it is convenient for me since I live in the neighborhood! I would also DEFINITELY recommend this salon over DryBar. I've had great blowouts from all the different stylists that I've gone to and the price is super reasonable. They are also really friendly and helpful any time I've called them to schedule or reschedule an appointment. I also appreciate that they ask if you would like a double shampoo which I always need to help the style last longer! My only issue has been that they can be very rough with your hair if they are in a hurry which caused a lot of breakage. Booked an appointment online but when I showed up 10 minutes before my CONFIRMED appointment, I was told it would be a 30-minute wait, which turned out to be almost an hour, and I finally got into the chair a solid hour after my confirmed time -- no calls, no warnings, just a one hour delay. I found this place using Yelp, while visiting NYC! Vanessa was fantastic. Really beautiful blowout and professional friendly service. My only feedback would be they need to use a little more hair product to prevent flyaways, as the blowout was VERY HIGH HEAT that led to a lot of flyaways at the top of the head. If you have thin hair and are prone to breakage, ask them to use lower heat. I have thick coarse hair so i survived lol! read more

Love this location I have been here many times and every time I leave with excellent results and satisfaction. The girls here are amazing, Lulu always takes care of me and most definitely manages to make me fall asleep on the chair and just overall relax which is really what it is all about when we visit the salon. On today's visit, however, the issue of no air conditioner was an excruciating one since it is extremely hot outside. In case the owners have not been made aware it is summer in NYC, there are way more people outside than usual and the temperatures are surpassing the normal records and recommended weather that's safe, with that being said there are people who work here ALL DAY, no air conditioner, blow drying more than 10 customers in one day and everyone deserves proper work conditions. Earlier in the week I came to do my hair ( Wednesday to be precise) and I ended up leaving for the same reason. As an owner of a salon in the heart of FIDI, it is necessary and fair to allow employees to have a friendlier and safe work environment by providing them the most necessities and two allow your CUSTOMERS to come and enjoy a fully relaxing experience that cannot be granted if I'm blow drying my hair and while that happens my back and forehead are shining from the sweat. I decided to take a chance at blo today after seeing them around for many years. I have gone to drybar in the past but never to blo. I appreciate the seamless appointment system that allowed me to make a same day appointment. Eleni (I hope I spelled it right) did my hair today. I'm assuming Mondays are the slower days because it was just her and I and the person at the reception desk. Loved having the place to ourselves and the peace lol. It was super clean and vibrant. She used the purple shampoo on me which made a HuGE diff on my hair. I opted for the deep treatment because my hair is color treated and I needed it! Don't regret it one bit. The products smell AH MAZING!! I'm a sucker for good smelling products lol. Eleni blew out my hair in about an hour. Not going to lie, I was so nervous because I have thick and curly hair! Came here yesterday morning to get a blow out...they just opened up about a week ago and had a deal for $35 blowouts. My stylist, Celeste, was so thorough and attentive, I loved it. My hair was a bit of a mess after I got it done a week prior for a wedding. She took the time to comb out all the knots when it was dry--my hair is thick and very long so it takes a lot of time and effort but she did it! When it was time to wash my hair, she asked me beforehand if I preferred cold or warm water--a small step but HUGE because most stylists at blow dry bars don't ask and it just makes you more comfortable. She took her time to blow out and curl my hair how I wanted and was very friendly. It was taking much longer than expected so she had another stylist help her out for part of it but didn't do so without asking me first if I was ok with it. The salon is clean and the rest of the staff was nice. I only wish that when I came in the receptionist asked me if I wanted champagne. She only asked if I wanted water. When I saw other people getting champagne I asked for it and my stylist took the time to get it for me. But later once I finished my glass the receptionist noticed and refilled it so I appreciated that! I made my appointment this past Friday night within one hour of when I needed the blowout. Brittany was extremely accommodating and was able to me the time I needed. My stylisst, Dominique, was so nice and offered me a glass of champagne and asked what style blowout I wanted. She asked if I wanted my hair shampooed twice and what water temperature I preferred. She asked how I was doing several times during the blowout. I have very thick, curly, long hair and she had it done in 45 minutes! My hair looked amazing and I was able to have it straight for five days! I highly recommend Blo Bar and will definitely come again when I'm in town.
