Have gotten two short haircuts here by Shannon, and I've been very pleased! It's so nice to find a stylist who does a great job that fits into my tiny budget. They were efficient and I liked my hair, deducting one star only because I thought they used way too much product which I prefer not to use in my hair-- but it looked good and held for the night. read more

I get my eyebrows threaded monthly. Coming from a place that I trust & has never denied me threading services because I'm a male, I was shocked when I was told they didn't thread men's eyebrows. I'm new to this area for school and received good recommendations from friends about this salon, but I can't use their service because I am a male. Sonam gave me one of the best blow drys I have ever had. I travel a lot and since I do not do my own hair anymore, I get a wash and blow dry wherever I travel every 4-5 days. Needless to say, I have experienced many different stylists. Sonam was definitely in the top ten of all the blow drys I have experienced all over the world. This is only a review for full head highlights with the owner Gyaltsen Druknya. I have black hair and requested brown highlights. He bleached my hair bleach blonde green - to my horror. The highlights started about three centimeters away from the scalp. When he was done, I told him that this looked pretty bad, and he said that this has never happened to them before and they could fix it the next day. I called the next day and they said they were not able to fix my hair. I usually wouldn't spend any time to write a negative review, but I feel as though these highlights were so poorly executed, I want to save someone the horror of ruining their hair by going to Salon Druknya. He may have forgotten about my hair as his children were running around the salon. I have no problem with children, but it seems like something distracted his attention from removing the bleach. I've been through two stylists here in the five haircuts I've had in Charlottesville and I will not be back. I started with Packmo who gave me a haircut completely different then what I asked for. After the haircut she styled my hair into a poodle style and I had to literally take the hairbrush out of her hand and style my own hair because she kept burning me with the hairdryer. I've been to Shannon 4 times now and each time has been okay but not great. The last haircut was just awful and I'm going back tomorrow for her to fix it and then I'm done with this place. The previous comment about no personality with the stylists is absolutely true. I feel that they don't communicate with you or try to get a sense of what you want. Sad that this place is rated the highest on Yelp because its not very good at all. read more

I had a wonderful experience with Packmo! My hair is thick and coarse, and can be very difficult to cut. Packmo gave me a layered cut, which still looks great even 4 months later (the true sign of a good cut). She also did highlights to cover my gray and brighten my haircolor, and did a fabulous job, as it looks so natural. I am very happy with my hair (which is a rarity for me), and I also found her prices to be quite reasonable. I am sad to say that I have since moved out of the area and won't be able to have her do my hair anymore, but C'ville residents should definitely take advantage of her talent! read more

On the whole, I really like Salon Druknya. A lot of bang for your buck. I recently had my hair deeply conditioned, and I'm impressed at how healthy, soft, and shiny it continues to look a couple of weeks later. Also, they give free trims for your bangs--which is a great perk. The only reason I don't give the salon five stars is because I feel like my hair is always cut a little shorter than what I typically ask for. Nonetheless, I'm happy on the whole and will continue to come back. It's true that the stylists are a little quiet--which can be a bit awkward, but I always feel like I leave looking good, which is more important to me than conversation. I moved to the Charlottesville area about a year and a half ago and have been looking for a stylist ever since. I have had more bad haircuts than I would like to admit. After reading the yelp reviews I decided to make an appointment at Salon Drunknya. I was able to get an appointment fairly quickly with Sonam. She is very sweet with a very soft and calm personality. I brought a picture in of what I wanted and she set to work. The haircut was actually quite soothing and she is pleasant. Anyway, she gave me a good haircut for a reasonable price. The salon itself was nice enough. Good location on the mall. Jacqueline did my hair, and was helpful with hair tips. However (and this is a big however for me), she said that a deep condiitioner would be a good idea for my hair. I said sure, not knowing anything about hair. Little did I know that that would cost $20 extra, which I didn't find out until I went to pay. It was a huge surprise for me, especially because I essentially paid double (with a tip) for an already expensive haircut. I like my hair, I just don't think it was worth what I paid. I love this place and Laurel - been going to her for 4 years now and love every hair cut I get. She's helped me go from long hair to short hair back to long and back to short. I do not have difficult hair (wavy, medium texture), and I just needed a trim so I went without a recommendation. I wanted my long layers trimmed, but when I got home (and styled it myself) I realized that it was noticeably uneven! As in, longer on the left side than the right. Saw Salon Druknya listed on Yelp and since it was close, gave it a try. I have long, thick hair, and I wanted a moderate change; the stylist didn't offer any suggestions, so I left with a basic trim--not completely her fault, but I was hoping for input and ideas. I had to ask her to fix the back to give it a more tapered look and even out the layers (they were a bit too stark). I really like this place and often drive down from DC just to go here. Sonam has given me so many haircuts in the past and consistently spends nearly an hour on my haircut and blowdry. They also do eyebrow threading here, which is worth the $15 (roughly) since it's the only place in Charlottesville to offer it. read more

The place is nice but when I walked in not one person greeted me, so I walked up to the front desk which is horrible because you cant see the receptionist because there is a wall blocking you. The receptionist talked so low I could not understand her and she was not friendly at all. The hair service was ok but again the customer service was horrible. I recently (yesterday) got a haircut from "senior stylist" Sonam. My hair was very long and i wanted to keep it that way so I asked for a one inch trim. She said it was damaged and we agreed on two inches. I asked her to indicate where it would fall and she showed me a point way past my collar bone. While she was cutting my hair she turned me away from the mirror. At the end of the haircut when she turned me around my hair was all gone!! She cut off a minimum of four inches! I am so angry--not only was it short but the layers were uneven! My friend got her hair cut there that same day and also had uneven layers. If Sonam is supposed to be a "senior stylist" I'd hate to see the work that the other stylists do there. STAY AWAY. Sonam will cut as much off as she feels necessary despite what you tell her in your consultation. And it won't be even. read more

My experience was "ok". I went in for only highlights and to have my bangs trimmed and didn't emerge for 3 hours - way too long for what I was having done. Sonam was my stylist and very nice, but didn't give me the hair color I asked for and I'd brought in a picture showing what i wanted as well. The trim was fine. They double booked appointments apparently because once she had foils in my hair, instead of putting me under a dryer for a few mins, she had me sit in the lobby for 30 mins while she washed, cut, and fully styled another client's hair, with no acknowledgment or apology for keeping me waiting for so long. I saw another stylist do essentially the same thing to a guy who'd come in for a cut. His stylist washed his hair and then left him sitting in the chair while she went to work on someone else"s hair. I didn't mind the decor but it did seem like they needed to do some cleaning. There was hair color dripped on the seat next to mine and on the floor, also a lot of hair on the floor, dust on the counters, etc. read more
