I had an ombre done at another salon a few months back- the color turned orange because I needed to go back for a second process, which I knew at the time I got it done. But, my salon is upstate so I opted for Firefly instead, which is local. I had the outline of the ombre that I liked but I needed to get the blonde back. Natalie, my stylist (very rude when I went back) went really high with the blonde and only did the top layer of my hair, so underneath is darker and the top layer is blonde- I have curly hair and also straighten it. Both looked stripy and the lightest color was on top of my hair and throughout. This is not an ombre. I also received highlights on my roots, which I emphasized how much I do not like highlights and that wanted to leave my root color alone. I also did not get the brassy color out of my hair- the entire reason I scheduled an appointment to begin with. My hair is currently 3 colors (blonde, brassy brown, natural brown). They refunded me and refused to correct it if I received a refund, because she didn't want to work for free. The only reason I asked for a full refund and a fix was because she had ruined what I already had (which I liked). She made a rude comment when I went back saying "I haven't done ombre in 5 years, nobody gets ombre anymore", agreed- no body gets the ombre she gave me but the photo I showed is still very much in style. I'm young and I agree with the other review that the salon is very outdated with their techniques. As an owner of a local business, I understand the importance of client satisfaction. I just needed a color process again and she completely botched my hair. Would stick to basic things for this salon but I don't feel Natalie is professionally ready to do stuff of this nature. read more

Update in response to Massimo: I understand why you'd like to believe or at least promote the idea that my review was fake, but it's not. I don't remember the girl's name, but she was a lovely young woman with an elaborate Alice in Wonderland tattoo. You obviously didn't check your records throughly because I was there three times, twice with her and once with you. You spoke about your son's sports team, I believe it was soccer, but this was a good 8-10 years ago now, so I honestly don't remember, and about your motorcycle. I'd advise spending less time on Yelp sniping at honest negative reviews (and mine isn't the only one, which should be instructive for you) and more on improving through feedback. I stand by my review and actually would subtract more stars based on your hostile and defensive reply. read more

I would recommend going elsewhere. Having recently moved here from the UWS I was excited to find what seemed like a good quality salon right in Larchmont. I really liked two salons in Scarsdale but I wanted to find something closer to home. Firefly was by far the most disappointing. My haircut is basic and uncomplicated, but with two little ones, going to get my haircut is a real treat for me. My experience wasn't great. First, the stylist kept talking to me even though my eyes were closed and I was trying to enjoy some quiet. Second, when I got home, I discovered she had completely missed a piece and the cut in general seemed "scraggly." Third, my only request was to make sure the front layers were long enough to fit in a low ponytail (important for the gym and with two children) but my hair kept popping out of my pony tail which was really annoying. Fourth, when I made a special trip back to see the manager about it, she was unapologetic and kept flipping my hair which I found intrusive and strange. At that point all I wanted was a refund but she turned it down citing store policy. Suffice it to say I am not going back and will not recommend Firefly to any friends moving here. I understand people make mistakes, but I would have expected far better service at this price point, and definitely better follow up if such mistakes had been made. read more

Started coming here about a year ago, when I felt the very expensive salon I was going to was giving me less and less time with the stylist, and having trainees do the blow dry. Also felt it was a little too "glitzy", so Firefly, which I found through a friend, has been perfect. Quality without the 'tude. The first time I went, I came back the next day a little embarrassed and asked if next time, it could be a little "messier" for easier styling.Massimo fixed it then and there. Today, I got a cut, said I was going to a wedding, and he gave me a more glamorous styling, no problem, no extra. Color with Natalie is terrific, exactly right. I've done a fair amount of: I want layers, now I want longer, now I'll try soft bangs, and I'm always accommodated. Products are also wonderful. read more

I've been pretty happy with Salon Firefly. It seems like a real salon -- actually reminds me of where I got my cuts for years in the city at the Little Hair Shoppe. It's also more affordable than a lot of the W'chester salons. I've only work with Anya who cuts on Friday and Saturdays and she has been great. When I first came in (while my son was still an infant) thinking that I wanted to chop it all off, she gently dissuaded me and encouraged me to go a bit more gradually (a good call). A year later, when I was really ready to chop it off she gave me a great cut and an even better one the next time. I would highly recommend. read more

I had two terrible experiences at Salon Firefly. Shame on me for going back the second time. I saw Natalie for coloring, without knowing me she said I wouldn't keep up with the maintenance of the picture I showed her. I was disappointed that but thought I would be open-minded. Overall, the first time I left happy since my hair was lighter, still though not what I wanted. I followed up 8 weeks later. The second time was terrible. The blonde in my hair was removed completely. My hair looked nothing like it was when I had walked in or from the picture I showed, Natalie. During the process, I felt like something was wrong when another girl who was washing my hair left during it to talk to Natalie. But I didn't say anything, I should have. Then Natalie came over and finished washing my hair; I believe she washed out all the blonde she had added at the beginning of the appointment. When I another girl started blow drying my hair, I asked to see Natalie and brought it to her attention. She said, "You should have seen how blonde it was!".... then walked away. However, I couldn't see my hair during the entire coloring process, since I was sat in front of a wall with no mirror Natalie then had the owner blow dry my hair. I also brought it to the manager's attention, who said it was very pretty. Sure, it was pretty but it wasn't at all what I asked for. When I called again to follow up, I was treated like I was the problem by the male owner. I did not go back and absolutely will never go back. My friends and family have also said that the coloring in my hair is uneven!!! read more

The colorist did not engage me with at all and didn't even check in on me after putting the dyeon. The assistant was nice enough asking if I wanted water and cleaning up stains on my forehead. The colorist went back into a "break-room" and didn't come out at all. Not to ask me if liked the color or if I was happy with it. . Massimo wasn't there and even though I had y schedule a haircut, I decided to get one with a stylist that was available. I won't be going back. read more
