I had a "custom" facial and gel manicure. Initially, reception checked my friend in and forgot me. So she didn't give me the sandals or locker. No biggie. Then the manicurist came and got me. No offer of a glass of water or anything by either one, at this point. I had her manicure and it was fine/ the gel color selection was not good. My friend also had the same mani and agreed. They need to broaden the color selection. They didn't really have any nice nude or neutral colors. The colors were either too light or too bold. Then She just sent me on my way with no instruction. I had to go back to reception, who then gave me sandals and apologized for previously missing that. She brought me back to put on a robe and wait in the relaxing area for the facial. They have room temp water and some banana chips and craisins to snack on and some magazines. **note this area is co-ed. I go in for her facial and it was good, I've definitely had better for a lesser price. One frustrating thing is she kept trying to upsell me to another facial that was $100 more! If I'm going to do the works and get product, it's going to be at my normal, local spot vs on vacation. I may have overlooked it but I didn't realize until I was in the waiting area and someone else was checking out and heard reception state that the gratuity was already included. I think it was 18-20%. So note on that, if you're thinking of giving a cash tip to the person providing your service. I would not go back. I've experienced more attentive staff and a better experience elsewhere and for less money.

This situation was bad and now the bad feeling around it all keeps compounding as the spa manager hasn't returned my call for 5 days now. I scheduled a scrub & massage and was pulled into an 8:00 PM appointment. I didn't specify male/female therapist, so that is a lesson for me (although I don't normally care). When I arrived, I was walked to the seating area and was given a paper to fill out. One of the elements noted that the therapist may not perform any chiropractic type adjustments at any time (which in reading I thought--- that's odd why would a masseuse to that?). I completed the paperwork and waited a while -- then a tall, older gentleman approached me and said he was my therapist. The initial glance didn't feel nice but I pushed it out of my mind and decided that it was my imagination and to allow myself to have a good therapy session. I cannot say that I had a good experience. The gentleman had a very abrupt (non-fluid) touch; the pressure was good, but the fluidity was not there -- making the experience not very relaxing. The atmosphere felt 'wrong' ... i can't explain how, but my instinct was to close my eyes tight and not peak! I was getting a scrub and at one point I had to be turned over, I was afraid I was going to get exposed, but instead I felt like I was peaked at. I peeked with one of my eyes, and his face was way too close to the edge of the sheet and not looking away (this was very quick though, so I questioned myself and again pushed thoughts out of my head). When on my back I was covered by a very thin sheet (no heavier cover over it for vanity/warmth) he randomly bumped (or something) into me and totally exposed my bosom -- it felt very "non-nacidental" --- as a reflex I quickly draped myself and kept my eyes tightly shut for the rest of the scrub. The showering space was in the same room as the massage table. After the scrub I was told to sit up and he toga-wrapped me to have me step into the shower --- it was a little weird as he lingered for a moment when I walked into the shower space. I threw the towel overhead very quickly -- honestly I was afraid a hand would reach from the side to grab the sheet. I quickly showered off and tucked myself tightly for the massage which i begged to be over with. In the middle of the massage he proceeded to adjust my right wrist but by that time I was so traumatized that the disclaimer I read flew out of my head and I just wanted to have all of this over with. He then adjusted my left wrist -- both time there was shooting electric type pain especially in the right wrist. This was absolutely awful. It's 3 weeks later and my right wrist has a persistent aching pain with occasional flaring pain! I work behind a computer and typing/controlling a mouse has been very painful and I can't hold a mouse for long - having to prop my hand and self-massage my wrist every 15-30 minutes. I am a big girl, but this felt unprofessional, dirty and intentional and hasn't settled in my heart at all!

The Ritz-Carlton Spa Dallas: Almost $500 Per Person for the Ultimate Minimalist Luxury Experience…read more For my husband's birthday, we wanted a little five-star escape without flying to Hawaii or Fiji. So we booked two 100-minute couples massages for four people--almost $500 per person--and were promised something special in the Magnolia Room. Babysitters scheduled. Work phones muted. Husbands organized. Paradise, here we come. **11:00 AM -- Welcome to Paradise** We arrived to smiles and were told we'd be escorted to Magnolia after changing. Eventually, the ladies made it there. Our husbands did not. Apparently, "Couples Massage" at The Ritz begins by separating the couples and seeing whether they can eventually locate each other. Luxury team building. Magnolia was lovely: peaceful, elegant and so corporate-looking we had an urge to check our work email. The birthday refreshments? Gummy bears and sugary pretzels in glass vases. Nothing says "five-star celebration" quite like the CVS snack aisle presented in crystal. About 30 minutes later, our husbands finally found us. Champagne? No. Mimosas? No. Birthday setup? No. But perhaps we misunderstood. At The Ritz, **YOU are the celebration.** Why need champagne when you're breathing Ritz-Carlton air? Please be grateful. **12:00 PM -- FIND YOUR MASSEUSE** Massage time arrived. Our therapists did not. So began another complimentary Ritz amenity: "The Great Masseuse Scavenger Hunt." Eventually we found our way back, only to sit in an almost empty waiting room while therapists walked past us for about ten minutes, apparently looking for us. Perhaps invisibility is another complimentary wellness treatment. Finally: our luxurious 100-minute full-body massage with CBD oil and aromatherapy. **Welcome to Minimalist Urban Chic Massage™.** My request: firm upper body, medium lower body. My left arm? Apparently unnecessary. My right leg? Optional. My back? Touched so delicately I wondered if my therapist thought I was antique porcelain. Warm towels on my feet? No. Under my neck? No. Cold feet? -Customer responsibility. Cold neck? - Poor planning. Why warm the back muscles when we're barely going to massage them anyway? Efficiency. My massage ended before my husband's, leaving me sitting cold, listening to relaxing music and thinking, "I hope our friends are having a better experience." They weren't. My friend's husband came out with visible scratches on his back, which he said came from his therapist's nails. Now THAT is personalized service. Some spas charge extra for exfoliation. Apparently ours was included. **BUT THEN CAME CRAIG.** We didn't complain at the front desk because I didn't want to ruin my husband's birthday. I called management afterward, expecting someone to care. Enter "Craig: Defender of the Ritz" -- a man whose loyalty should be studied by military historians. I explained my massage. Craig defended the Ritz. I explained our friend came out with scratches. Craig informed me their therapists don't have long nails. **CHECKMATE, CUSTOMER.** Perhaps our friend scratched his own back while lying face-down. Perhaps a small woodland creature entered the treatment room. We may never know. I expected, "I'm sorry. This isn't the experience we want our guests to have." Instead, I felt questioned and dismissed. If the Titanic had Craig aboard, I imagine him standing proudly on deck saying: "With all due respect, ma'am, our ships don't hit icebergs." Craig, we salute you. Almost $500 per person taught us about "Minimalist Ritz Luxury" less massage, less warmth, less celebration, less customer service. More gummy bears. Luxury isn't marble, robes or a famous name. It's attention to detail, making guests feel cared for and listening when something goes wrong. And luxury isn't charging almost $500 for a massage because the building says Ritz-Carlton on the outside. If you're looking for paradise without leaving Dallas, keep looking. But if you're looking for an almost $500 massage, a complimentary scavenger hunt, optional body parts, cold feet, mystery scratches, CVS snacks in elegant glassware, and the opportunity to debate your own experience afterward... The Ritz-Carlton Spa Dallas has you covered.
