If you're looking for a new stylist, I highly recommend Desiree. She's simply amazing at what she does. Talented in both color and cut, she can make your wildest fantasy color dreams come true. Granted, as fun as fantasy colors are, they take a dedicated amount time and unfortunately, fade out fairly quickly. However, for the few weeks you have it, it can be really fun to wear. Desiree loves to "play" with hair color and like a sommelier with fine wine, knows what will work, what won't work...I've worked with Desiree long enough to allow her to play the color spectrum (whether blonde, brown, red, fantasy or a mix in-between). I base my color wishes on my next months flex work schedule and no matter the decided upon color dynamic we go with, I know I'll walk out looking 10 years younger, trendy and styled for a night on the town. Desiree has an assistant who helps with washing and styling. When together, they're both a treat to talk and laugh with! Since I have a ton of long, naturally curly hair, it can sometimes take both of them to dry and style. When they are both styling my hair, I literally feel like I'm getting the "princess treatment". Two stylists at the same time is definitely a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique-like good time (where the young kids at Disney go to get styled like Disney princesses). Desiree has been my hairstylist for over 5 years. She typically accommodates my tastes and odd coloring, dimensioning, or contrasting requests as long as it's healthy for my hair and enhances my face color and structure. I like change and I like to play...hairstyle is one of those areas where a girl can play and change it up from month to month, to accommodate whatever I'm doing outside of the house, whether work or play. There's a certain trust you have to have with your hairstylist and Desiree is someone I explicitly trust to make me feel beautiful every month. She's found her niche and is completely at home at Four8Zero, much more than she was at her previous salon. If you need a new stylist, try Desiree and let her know I recommended her. :) read more

First off let me start by saying that I am a very indecisive client, and Crissi has been super patient and understanding with me from the very start. When I originally came in to this salon I had impulsively decided I wanted bangs. Crissi was the only one with an open appointment that day so she was my stylist. She was very honest about the maintenance and upkeep of bangs before she cut them and I appreciated her transparency. We then stayed in touch to formulate a plan for me to go blonde again, as my hair had been red for four years. She set all the right expectations for me and was patient with me as I changed my mind every other day about what color I wanted. She's very professional, super cool, and SO talented with hair. She specializes in blonde so if you want a beautiful balayage, this is your girl! Plus the salon environment is really cool too. It's a loft that overlooks Scottsdale and they have a salon DOG!!! I've had horrific experiences prior, where my hair has literally turned orange. Thank goodness for Brent!! I have never written a negative review on Yelp, because I've never had an experience this bad. I moved from Chicago and took my time searching for a good salon. I chose Salon Four8Zero because I was impressed by the great reviews here. I scheduled an appointment with Brent and waited 3 weeks to see him. I asked him to cut two inches off my long hair and asked for long layers in front. I even used my hands to show him what I wanted the length to be. Brent spent less than 10 minutes cutting my hair and had his assistant style my hair. After she finished styling my hair she was quick to walk me out without showing me what it looked like in the mirror. I have never had a haircut this bad in my life. The cut is uneven and the layers look like they were blunt/straight cut. My layers look like shelves in the air. Most of the layers don't blend well with my hair no matter how I style it. It will take years for this haircut to grow out. I understand that mistakes happen, but at this price point I expect at least the basics to be done right. read more

I was in town for a wedding, and had heard from a friend of a friend about Elizabeth. I have coarse, thick, long, hair and regularly get highlights but I've been wanting to transition to a balayage and heard that she was the queen of colors. First off, she's so cute and easy to talk to. Right away, she offered me a white claw or wine so naturally opted for the white claw, because heck, it was a Friday afternoon and I was ready to get the weekend started. I found Four8Zero on Yelp and my experience there was amazing. Brent is the owner of the salon and he covered my gray roots, added low-lights and toned my hair. My hair is difficult--takes a long time to come up and tends to lean red, but Brent listened and managed to pull ash. My hair looks natural and has depth. I also appreciated that Brent was respectful of my time. He started on time and got it done in 90-minutes without any drama. Contrary to what a lot of stylists think, I'm not there to relax and I'm not having a good time. Also, I'm in my mid-60's and I was concerned that Four8Zero mostly catered to a younger crowd. There are a lot of beautiful young women with expertly created platinum tresses, but there is also a nice mix of women with gray hair who came out with stunning color. I wanted to go shorter on my long, wavy hair, that was completely dead on the ends. She took so much into consideration! My heat styling, the time I want to take to do my hair, bone structure, and previous issues I've had chopping it off. We decided to go half the length I originally wanted off, for fear I would shock myself with too much change, and I've never felt better. I can put wave spray in my hair, air dry, and touch it up a bit in the morning and it looks amazing. Prices are a bit higher, but definitely on par to what you would pay in Scottsdale/Phoenix high end places anyways. It's your hair, you should LOVE it when you leave! So . . . This is a tough one. My daughter had a haircut at the salon and loved it so I booked an appointment while we were there before we left. This review is for my appointment but I want to note that my daughter loved her stylist (Pamela), had a wonderful experience, and loves her cut. Overall- Cool salon vibe and I had a super friendly stylist. My time in the chair was enjoyable and the stylist took plenty of time (4+ hours) to do my hair. I came in for a post-pandemic (e.g. overdue) haircut and looking for some highlights to address some of the grays that have been coming in. Staff suggested when I made the appointment that I should do an all over color (which I was nervous about because I had never done that) and then they would add highlights. In speaking with the stylist, I emphasized that I wanted mostly for the color to look natural but obviously to clean up the inconsistent color that had grown out in my hair as my highlights grew out during the pandemic. I have a relatively conservative job and we discussed that at length. When I finally saw the color, I was clearly shocked. The stylist noticed my reaction and said it was a big change. I explain it seemed very dark. It was nighttime when we finished, but the color just washes out my skin and almost clashes with my skin tone. I hoped it was the lighting or that I was not used to it yet. When you look at the color itself on the hair, it is a beautiful color, which tells me technique itself is not the issue. The color just looks awful on me. The stylist said it is such a drastic change, so I should give it a few days. Here is the problem, I have to travel later today. I came home and immediately redid the style to see if it would look any better. Nope. I was immediately back in the website to look for next available appointments and there is nothing until next week. I am admittedly in a panic since I have to travel later and I cannot go back to work like this on Monday. If there was any uncertainty about the color, my family's reaction when I got home told me everything. I had strong doubts and was not a fan of the color when I left the salon, but I watched their smiles fade and turn to "Hmmm" as the only initial comment when I walked in the door. I have never had that reaction to a haircut or highlight before. I spent the night seeing if wearing baseball caps for my trip will help and realizing that pulling my hair back and changing the style does nothing to improve the clear contrast to my skin tone. (And I can't, of course, wear baseball caps everywhere I go on this trip). Overall, the salon itself is lovely and has a funky urban feel. My stylist was super nice and it was nice being in the chair. At the end of the day though, you are there for what you look like when you walk out of the door and that was a total miss. The hair color is not flattering on me and will not work for my professional life. I put my trust in the hands of my stylist and followed their suggestion, but I am sad to say that was a mistake. I am hoping that can be corrected really soon. I gave the lower stars for the overall outcome of the appointment, but I also understand that misses happen. If this can be fixed, it may warrant a higher star rating. read more
