I give this salon 5 stars because the best hair designer Extrodinare in Reno works there...Linda! Not kidding I've lived in San Francisco for 6 years and could not find a better stylist. I started going to her in 2006ish from a recommendation as she had just moved to Reno and I lived here for University. I've done so many things to my hair over the years and she has always been game and done a remarkable job on taking my vision and making it happen! Even when I needed a bit of fine tuning to get the result. Let's just say after Moving back to the area I'm thrilled to go back and have a bit of fun with a new look! The location is central to Reno in the old southwest area on the corner of Plumas and Plumb. Always enough parking. My sister-in-law also sees a nail technician that does a really fantastic job. I did try another place when she was on vacation and will never go to a place that specifically dose waxing. It was 60 bucks, I usually pay 45, and I needed a breather for a minute and the chick told me she has an appointment right after me so we needed to continue. I'll wait for mary next time. Lovely Amalia Rauch transformed my hair into a fresh new cut and color that looks great and is lower maintenence. A lot of times going from long hair to short is a shock, but I have no regrets! It's exactly what I wanted and Amalia takes the time to really find out what your expectations are and then tells you her plan of action. Nice aromatherapy hot towel (she will check to see if you are ok with it first) with the shampoo and nice scalp massage. She gives a lot of helpful styling tips too. I get my nails, facials, and waxing done here. Danielle, who does my nails does a great job. They are gel nails, with glitter tips. She has about 100 different colors of glitter. Her work is amazing! In the six months I have been going to her, I have only had one nail break. I see her every 3 weeks for fills, and her prices are great. She is great to talk to and is super funny! I don't splurge very often on expensive salon services, so for $90 + tip for a color and a cut was something I didn't take lightly. Lucky me that I had Amalia to take me for an appointment that lasted over 2 hours. She took the time to go over color choices, hair care (I am trying to use conditioner only most of the time), talk about how my hair has changed over the years, and how to someday go completely gray gracefully. She is very talkative and asks a lot of questions, which was good for me. If you don't feel very chatty, I'm sure she would be okay with just going over basic questions as you sit and peruse gossipy magazines. read more

Before moving to Oregon, I had been going to Salon Glow for years in Reno. Dani has always done my nails and is incredible. I am a complete germaphobe and her sanitation methods would make any OCD person proud. Not only is it a clean environment, but she is amazing at what she does. I can't even begin to tell you how many salons I had been to before finding her. I also went to Salon Glow for my hair. Janelle is by far the best stylist. She was able to strip black from my hair and turn it into a gorgeous chocolate brown. She worked hard at fitting me in even when it wasn't the most convenient times for her. I came to Carson City to celebrate my Niece, Tawny, on her 17th Birthday. Since it was a last minute trip, and I have been a busy bee, my gray roots were showing terribly. I couldnt lt my teenage niece & her buddies see me looking that way, but my own local stylist was booked. So I took a chance, and went to Carson City, choosing a Salon blindly, hoping for a decent "Do". Annie did my hair, and did an awesome job! She listened attentively, and changed my color, adding more RED, like I asked, and even trimmed my "fringe" perfect (NOT bangs, please). I love my hair! Mary does a great job waxing, in a very clean, peaceful environment. She is very personable and sweet! I also got my hair trimmed at Salon Glow, and I wasn't too happy with that. My hair came out really chunky with obvious pieces of where it was cut, rather than having a nice blend to it. The price was nice; $20, but the actual results of the cut were not good. I'd do more research before walking in for a hair cut/trim, to ensure you get a good stylist. Their salon also has a lot of great retail items; Big Buddha bags, Bare Essentials makeup, and much more. I'm sorely disappointed. I spent six hours at $50 an hour to end up with orange roots and spotty pink "balayage", after a consultation and sending in images and being told it would take four hours at most. I was also told the pink would fade to a pastel, and it's now all about gone- and I've washed it properly. Then I was told it would take an hour and a half to correct the orange roots, and after two and a half hours she still wasn't any where near being done. I left in tears. She hasn't even followed up. I feel I was swindled. I spent time and money I didn't have to waste. I still have orange roots, and an immense amount of regret. read more

Salon Glow is your one stop shop! Hair, nails and skin. First, Tara will take great care of your nails! I've gotten several manicures from Tara and she's always so gentle, attentive and nice. She always makes sure I'm comfortable and enjoying my service. I would highly suggest Tara to make your nails look great! Second, Mary will take such great care of your skin! I'm a bit of a skin freak and am hyper aware of the products I use. Mary was so great at explaining what each product she using was and what the benefits were. Chrisella is a great stylist. I personally haven't done much with my hair over the years, but when I decided to have over 10 inches cut off last year I knew I could trust her to do the job. I had already been to her before to trim my hair so I felt she could give me an actual style. She did an amazing job! I love my new short hair. She gave me tips on how to curl it and now I do my hair everyday. I have finally found my stylist in Reno and I would recommend her to anyone. She is nice to talk to, friendly and welcoming. I first heard of Chrisella from my mother. My mom just gets a trim and wears her hair straight, but she really likes Chrisella too and we will both will continue to go to her for our hair styling needs. I also think the price is beyond reasonable. The first stylist I ever went to was way out in Sparks, up Vista and she charged 50 bucks (she happen to be a newbie also, seems kinda steep for someone just staring out). That plus the gas to get there was not worth it because I knew I could find someone in Reno who could do a great job and not charge so much for a layered cut. So I am happy w/ Chrisella. I'm from out of town so I wasn't sure what I was getting into when I made an appointment at Salon Glow...they were able to get me in that day when several other salons couldn't make time for me. Tariann Sage was my stylist. I showed her two different looks I was going for. My current hair color was red. I wanted to go either dirty blonde or dark brown with ombré. Tariann suggested that ombré would be more attainable, considering how difficult blonde can be on top of removing red. She did an amazing job. It took 5 hours and $120 for the cut and color, but it was well worth it! I have had ombré done on me three times, and this was the best hands down. The staff was friendly and offered water and wine, and the atmosphere was nice as well. I highly recommend this salon! read more

I'm not big on getting my nails done because of sanitary reasons, lack of understanding, pain, ect, however this place is by far the best place to get your nails done. The staff was friendly, the decor and music was nice and she actually listened to me! I don't remember what her name was (I'm really bad on names), but she was able to fit me in, (I didnt have an appointment) and after I attempted to explain the vague idea of what I wanted, she made it come true and better than I could ever dream. The price was a little shocking, but after the end result I dont regret it at all. True gel nails, done right. She was also a perfectionist, which I loved. It may have been done appropriately but I did the whole wait 2 days to wash my hair and leave it down but the perm still came out in a couple weeks. My cousin made us a nail appt to see Jennifer a few weeks ago.. And I had one of the best times I've ever had at the nail salon!!! Jennifer was: Very informative Funny Nice! Gentle Easy to talk to Professional I felt like I had a friend doing my nails!! Not to mention they have looked AMAZING since I had them done!!! I'm going on week 3.. Which is a first for gel nails and I. They usually last me 2 weeks tops. If even. Ive had numerous compliments on my nails. And the color! I've been seeing Mary for waxing and ADORE her and the job she does. So when I desperately needed a pedicure (had hip surgery and hadn't been able to bend that low!) I called and Jennifer answered the phone. I asked (desperately) if anyone could get me in for a pedi tomorrow. She said she had time in the afternoon and I grabbed it. Outside of being extremely pleasant she did a fabulous job. At first I thought the price was steep (compared to Scottsdale, but desperation won out) It was worth every cent! She took her time and did a fabulous job with the cuticles, exfoliating my legs, massage...............and of course the polish. I actually go more the everything else and consider polish to be the icing on the cake. Jennifer was a pleasure to talk to, she did a great job, took plenty of time and I walked out with the most beautiful feet (not just toes) in the world! Depends who you doing hair with. Just don't do your hair with unexperienced hairdressers. Had highlights touch up -took loooong time and no result! came in w dark roots- came out w the same roots. I called in and they set me up with Anna, who was friendly and very willing to work with my schedule. I went to Anna in need of some TLC. I needed color and a trim, and she went above and beyond. I could not have asked for better color because she got it on the first try. She shaped my hair for me, and also lightened my very thick hair, just in time for my wedding next month. I requested a red color to go with my dark colored hair, and it totally looks great! She used many foils, like 12-15 or so. She was not rushed or made me feel rushed. THe cut , color, and style took about 2 hours total. Not the fastest, but she did a great job and would recommend her to anyone looking for a stylist. The salon was clean, bright and welcoming. I love Salon Glow!!! I have had Danielle do my nails many many times and she always does an awesome job! My favorite is to just get pink and white gel over my natural nail. It always looks so nice and clean and I get compliments on them all the time. I've also had gel with tips, and just a regular manicure and pedicure. She always does a great job and is so much fun! :) As for hair, I've gone to both Anny and Amanda. Anny fixed a botched job that I had gotten a few weeks prior thanks to a scissor-happy cosmetology student. I had a mullet, and no, I'm not joking. Ha! Anyway, Anny worked a little magic and made my hair look pretty darn good considering what she had to work with. It still had some growing out to do, but she made it look soooooo much better! A total life saver! I should add that I have very curly hair, and a lot of it, so it can be a tad difficult to work with. I went to Amanda for a color-correction. I had been coloring my hair several shades darker than my natural color for years and decided I wanted to go back to natural. The poor thing had no idea what she was getting herself into with the curly fro I've got goin' on, but she handled it like a true pro! And she is just the sweetest thing too! We had a great time, and my hair turned out great! Everyone there is so friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxed and fun. Not stuffy or pretentious at all. Oh, and I almost forgot - Bare Minerals! Go see Denise. Period. I was in a total hair rut, not feeling all that great about myself. I knew Denise from back when our kids were in the NICU together in Reno and have always admired her style and energy. So I thought, maybe she can work a little hair magic on me. DID SHE EVER! The color is perfection (and I might add, she was fixing someone else's leftovers already) and lights up my whole face. The cut is super cute, easy to style, and just made me feel glamourous. Add to that that Salon Glow doesn't cost an arm and a leg (my last appointment in SF for the same services was almost $400!!!) and its a total win/win. The salon is clean, stylish and friendly. Terrible pedicure :( Waste of $40 plus $10 tip! Calluses not sheered off, French was cream colored, not white and this was not discussed. Bottom of feet still dirty. Very young, inexperienced hair stylist - just bad luck. Bottom of feet still dirty. Had to hold feet on slippery towel/table for painting. Very uncomfortable! Chair did not heat or massage. Will have to get another pedicure tomorrow :( read more
