I typically don't do anything special with my long hair. I shampoo it, I let it air dry, and I have it cut annually. That's about it. However, having lived in many cities across the globe for research, for those annual cuts I have patronized salons everywhere from central London, Mumbai, and Bogotá to DC and Chicago. Then between COVID, childbirth, and postpartum hair shedding this year, I let my hair care lapse for even longer and was in need of some serious help. Being new to this area, a friend recommended that I check out Salon Halloo, located just five minutes from my house. I booked an appointment with the owner, Shannon, and I proceeded to have a great experience - so great, in fact, that I will now happily seek regular hair maintenance through Salon Halloo. I love how Shannon really listens to her clients and delivers a custom cut based on both what you want and what flatters your face and physique. For me, I chose to keep things simple with light, face-framing layers and a nice, rounded look in back. She cut it in such a way that my fringe of hair regrowth will blend into the softer layers around the face and throughout my head. Shannon was also very gentle with my hair; I felt no pulling or aggressive brushing - which I find is fairly common and leaves my sensitive scalp feeling irritated. But not here, and not with her! Her many years of experience are evident in the delivery and quality of her artistry. I happily agreed to book another appointment in January for a maintenance cut to keep up with the copious hair regrowth and keep my mane looking professional, and I'm already looking forward to it! So I am new to the area and made an appointment here a few months back. Had a good experience, so I brought my son in. Had another good experience, so I brought my 7 year old autistic daughter in for her very first professional haircut. I do not believe this salon is meant specifically for kids, but I will never go to another stylist again. All 3 times, we worked with Lillie and she was beyond amazing. My daughter was very nervous, and a little scared. Lillie spoke to her throughout the whole process and eased all of her fears. Listened to what she wanted and gave her some extra wiggles when she needed them. The salon itself is VERY nice, with gorgeous decorations and a very welcoming feel. I literally cannot recommend this place enough, specifically Lillie. If y'all aren't going here, what are you doing? I'm not going to post any pictures of my children, but both children's hair looked amazing! You can really tell, watching Lillie work, that she is incredibly talented and passionate about her work. I was brought to tears today over how she treated my daughter. Absolutely phenomenal place with even better staff. Highly recommend, 10000000/10. read more

I loved my experience here . Shannon was very nice and welcoming . I had gone to one salon in Scappoose, and had a horrible experience. In addition to my bad experience , she also left my hair uneven . I was hoping to find something close to home, so I wouldn't have to drive to Tigard. Shannon has continued to give me excellent cuts and color each time I see her. I'm writing an update as a result of the social distance order that closed hair salons. Like many others, I got to see what my natural hair color is as the roots grew in and it turns out that its grey.. Shannon has been offering no contact purchases of the Redkin products and, Glory Be! custom color kits with the color she uses on you at the shop. I bought the custom color kit, which included everything I needed to touch up my roots, and I dont feel 100 years old when I look in the mirror. Thanks Shannon, for offering this service during the stay home order. I'm looking forward to seeing you in person when this quarantine is over. read more

Shannon is worth the 1+ hour drive for my hair appointment. She's so professional & knows exactly what to do with my crazy hair. I have always been anxious about who touches my hair, but she made me feel so comfortable and confident with her. I have thick, coarse, wavy hair and she made me feel like a queen walking out of there. I got some light color, a cut, and style. This was by far and away the worst hair experience i ever had in my life.This salon basically ruined my hair. Felicia was my hair stylist. i came in and asked for a rose-gold brown and walked out 5 hours later with unblended Hot pink fuchsia roots and a tinted blotched blond bottom. almost in tears i tried to tell the stylist my hair was nothing close to what i wanted- i was then bullied by her and another employee.These are some of the comments said to me;" this is what u asked for so sorry" " if you ask-th and receive-th then don't complain-th and just use really hot water and the roots will fade. " I could tell something went wrong with the color when the stylist washed my hair with steaming hot water multiple multiple times and then proceeded to tone the bottom multiple times after it had gotten rinsed out. i was in shock when i left. The next day i contacted the stylist and asked for her to redo my hair. That i had shown it to some friends and they too agreed it was the worst coloring they had ever seen. I never received anything back from her. When i involved the manager things only got worse. She tried to offer a redo but only the roots. She basically wanted to go over the roots with dark dye and would really only dedicate an hour and a half to try and fix it because it wasn't "fair" to move her other clients that came in every 4 weeks and bought her hair products...... and because i didn't- it wouldn't be worth the time energy to try and fix it to what i originally wanted.She defended the stylist and said my hair was not "THAT "bad and it was "a look".......Mind u in the week i had to deal with my hair like this i lived in a knit hat.... but had complete strangers come up to me and asked what happened to my hair with absolute pity in there eyes.I cant express the amount of unprofessional behavior i witness with not only me but other clients there as well, i witnessed first hand the employees making fun of a woman that had some in with alopecia ( Balding of the scalp) When i tried to confront the manager about the complete lack of respect and unprofessional ism i was told that some people just cant be made happy! i know bad hair can be fixed but untrained stylist, and disrespectful callous customer service cannot. I just moved to Oregon from California and desperately needed a hair cut. I found Salon Haalo and booked an appointment with Shannon. The salon itself is so cute and Shannon was amazing! Not only did she do a great cut and made my hair feel very healthy and soft, but she is also so nice and friendly. I love how they make new clients fill out a form to get an idea on how you maintain your hair and perform a consult. I have never had a salon do that before and it really makes the experience so much more personable. I will definitely be back and highly recommend Shannon! read more

I love Salon Halloo. The stylists are creative, expertly trained and have the knowledge and grace to gently save me from myself when I show up with some fab magazine photo that would be a disaster on my head. Shannon is a master colorist, as well as a genius with my very curly hair. Mattie has cut my son's hair for years and people are ALWAYS asking where he gets his haircuts. The ambience is laid back and stylish. The conversation is genuine and upbeat. There's no "too cool for the room" attitude - at Salon Halloo, the only personality that matters is yours - you will leave feeling more beautifully yourself, every time. Inconsistent. I have had my hair cut there a number of times with the same stylist. She must have just been having a bad day but it was a disaster for me as I got my hair cut right before an important trip. I had arrived before the stylist and was sitting in the waiting area near the front door when she arrived. She did not greet me at all and went into the back for awhile before coming out and sitting down at the computer directly across from me. She spent a good long while on the computer, still not even acknowledging that I was there. Finally the other stylist who was working on a another customer came over and said something to her. She then took me back to her station and I told her how I wanted my hair cut which was the same as always. The result was a disaster and I went home looking like a clown. I went the next day to Hairmasters at Fred Meyers to try and get it salvaged. They improved it as well as they could but some of the hair was cut so short that it could not be rescued until the following haircut weeks later. I will not be going back and can certainly not recommend it any more. read more
