I rarely ever leave bad reviews -- I truly love supporting small businesses and the Las Vegas community -- but my experience at Salon Indigo with Penina was awful. I found her on Groupon for a full highlight for $90, and what should've been a simple service turned into almost four hours. I even had to leave with wet, unstyled hair because she took so long. She was also working on another client at the same time, leaving me under the dryer with bleach in my hair for nearly an hour. When I got home and brushed my hair, it fell out in handfuls. My hair turned orange at the top, the highlights are uneven, and every time I brush, more hair breaks off. The salon itself felt old, smoky, and unprofessional -- the stylists were outside smoking, and the whole place reeked of cigarettes. Then right before I paid, she added a $20 upcharge for "thick hair" that wasn't mentioned beforehand. I normally don't do revoews, but I want to prevent this from happening to anyone else. I saw Renee and she gave me highlights, but instead of blonde, I got purple. Stylist: Gloria This was my first visit. Mt twin sister had seen Gloria a couple of time but this was Gloria's "last chance," so to speak. The way my sister described her experience was that Gloria was okay but never gave her exactly what she wanted or asked for. She also mentioned she had to constantly argue with Gloria to get a cut, highlight, color, and style she wanted as opposed to what Gloria wanted to give her. So, we walk in this morning, with appointments. My sister got a root touch-up, cut, and style. We decided we wanted the same modern cut and style. While, of course, it wouldn't be exactly the same (see photos) because our hair thickness and texture are naturally different from each other's, as well as the model's (see photos), we would've been quite happy with a cut and style that was similar with a different color. First, I asked for a partial foil (highlights). But, then, me and Gloria argued because she said my roots would show through. I don't know what kind of highlights she's given her other clients, but I've been getting highlights for over 35 years, and my roots have never shown through unless the stylist put the foils in too far from my scalp. So I ended up just asking for a full foil instead. To be fair, I'm very happy with the highlights and color, but I didn't actually get a haircut. With the foils in my hair, she put me under the dryer for a very long time. When it was time for the shampoo, Gloria started pulling the foils out and asked me if I needed a towel to cover my face. I've been getting my hair done every 5-8 weeks for decades, and I've never had a hairdresser ask me that, so I said no. I regretted that after Gloria got shampoo and water all over my face, including in my eyes and ears, as well as soaking the back of my shirt. When I came back out front, my sister was sitting in a chair at reception, at which time I saw her cut and style. I pulled up the photo and said: "That's not the cut we asked for." It was too short in some places, not short enough in others, and looked NOTHING like the photo. (See photos) My sister pursed her lips (deep frown), shook her head, and said "No, it isn't." I asked my sister if we should just leave. Then Gloria came over, hearing the end of that exchange, and said she wasn't going to cut my hair, just blow dry it. So, she starts blow drying my hair with her fingers, didn't bother styling it very much, then started to blow dry the back of my shirt. After a couple of minutes, I told her she didn't need to dry my shirt. We went to pay. To be fair, the cost was quite reasonable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I did still try to tip her 10% (I typically tip 20% or, sometimes, more), and Gloria said she didn't want a tip.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I said "Fine." [[HIGHLIGHT]]Then just as we were walking out the door, Gloria said "You must be bipolar." My sister responded "What did you just say? How dare you say something like that!"[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] For that alone, Gloria and this salon deserves zero stars. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Gloria didn't offer to fix it. Didn't apologize. Nothing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In fact, Gloria told me "I have 30 year's experience and nothing like this has ever happened." I said, "And I've been going to hairdressers for longer than that, and I've never had a stylist do something like this." My thought is: If Gloria has 30 year's experience, it was also 30 year's ago the last time she received any training. She has no knowledge or experience with modern cosmetology, modern cuts, styles, or methods, or modern techniques. She's probably fine if all you want is a basic cut using 30-year-old techniques, but she's completely lacking in any knowledge, skills, or experience in modern styling and color. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Furthermore, she has no idea how to talk to customers, describe the techniques she does use, performing a friendly, professional consult, or, even, address problems or concerns. In other words, she has no customer service acumen and shouldn't be talking to customers at all.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]To provide customer service, especially for an unhappy customer, you need to set aside your pride, learn the art of empathy, and speak to customers as if you actually care about them. You need to learn techniques for diffusing escalating situations, which you do by using active listening, showing empathy, and proposing potential solutions instead of becoming defensive and combative.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Gloria, it's not about you--it's about the customer. Don't go to this salon. It's obviously poorly managed, so much so that Gloria feels, not only justified, but ENTITLED to treat customers disrespectfully and impose her own opinions and values onto her clients who ask for nothing more than "This is the haircut I want." Also, it is quite apparent that this salon does not stress or provide ongoing training to their stylists, which does not bode well for customers wanting modern cuts and color. If you do decide to go to this salon anyway (after reading this review), don't book with Gloria unless you prefer 30-year-old techniques and DON'T want anything modern. read more

Had possibly the worst cut of my life from Gloria Leal. I really don't like leaving bad reviews but... I made an appointment with Gloria for Saturday at 6:15pm. She confirmed a few days before. On Saturday I arrived at the salon at 6:10 and the door was locked - I processed to call the salon a few times and I got no answer. There was a man outside who worked at the shop next door who told me she had just left the salon and locked up for the day. Weird considering we had an appointment already set up. She was distracted and in a hurry to get me out of her chair, and proceeded to start in with exactly what I specifically told her not to do with my hair. I had to stop her and call her attention to it several times. After repeatedly interrupting her stream of consciousness chatter she finally muttered something along the lines of " oh you want a kid hair cut". (Which, why does it matter what I'm asking for? Horrible customer service. Bought a Groupon for a quick trim and called to make an appointment. The first time no one called me back. The second time I called was put on hold then someone answered and said she will smelt eh appointment but doesn't want to honor the coupon. So I asked why do you sell them if you don't want to honor them. And she replied she only gets 50% of what she is suppose to get. Then don't sell them. STAY AWAY! Got my haircut here today. The stylist, Gail, at the beginning of the service asked me how old I am which is incredibly inappropriate in any situation, particularly considering I had only spent 5 minutes in her chair and had not offered to volunteer that information. As someone who has had gray hair since high school I knew why she was asking and she proceeded to explain that I was too young to have gray hair. I have always perceived that as an insult as she was insinuating that I should dye my hair to cover my shamefully grays. These types of comments from hair stylists were hurtful when I was 16 and they are still hurtful now. She then proceeded to argue with me when I told her how much hair I would like cut off. Then she argued that I should only wear my hair naturally and made it seem like I had committed a crime by explaining that I normally blow dry my hair straight or curly. Finally, she offered to blow dry my hair but did so in the most aggressive manner possible and failed to dry it 100% so my hair ended up looking like a frizzy mess, a far cry from the blow-out I had walked in with. Once I got back to my car I tried to run my fingers through my hair but found I couldn't as she hadn't used any products or styling techniques to smooth my naturally curly hair and was forced to throw it into a sloppy bun for the remainder of my day.
