This salon is AMAZING. I walked in with damaged hair, feeling absolutely hideous, and walked out feeling like a brand new woman. Usha is SPECTACULAR with eyebrows. As someone with very thick eyebrows, its hard to find someone that knows how to keep the shape and the thickness. She never disappoints, and knows exactly how to make them look flawless. I decided to get my hair cut here as well for the first time. Attached are before and afters and they are insane in my opinion. Ive never been happier with a hair transformation than i have with Rogelio. He understood my frustrations, and gave advice on how to improve my hair. Also, i must say, he gave me an amazing head massage while washing out my color. I almost fell asleep. Highly highly recommend coming here if you want to be pampered. Rogelio is AMAZING! I was in a super duper pinch on the eve of my bday and my hair looked very shabby - i realized I could NOT attend my bday party in that state (oy!). So, I got soooooo lucky and called the salon last minute and Rogelio not only found a way to get me in, but he took the time to talk to me, hear what I was looking for and to really do the best job!!! My husband says: Sweet Jesus, I must send Carlos flowers. Holy Father! You look hot! Lol. Carlos is amazing- I walk in the salon feeling like a 7 and walk out strutting like I'm an 11. I'm not usually one to take selfies but after every visit with Carlos (and Gretchen, colorist) I HAVE to take a selfie. Hence all the car shots. You can see in my hair selfies the ones I can find- my hair evolution from a bob to longer hair (down to the shoulder blades). You walk in, Carlos is always smiling- I love the early morning appointments, it's peaceful an quiet and you get decent parking. You get offered tea or coffee and sometimes champagne depending on the day! Their products are of the best smelling ones ever and my favorite part of the shampooing is the head massage. Gretchen's coloring is so great- I used to dye hair myself which was never good and going to a professional changed my opinion entirely. I consistently get a partial balayage with her and my hair grows out AMAZING. I don't like to be super showy but the highlights are incredibly natural looking and Gretchen understands how the color might fade over time and takes that into account. Sometimes I don't see her for 6 months and there is no "line" where your roots have obviously grown out. Can't rave about how incredibly important this is for a busy person like myself! Carlos's salon is also an art studio and he supports local artists with photography, painting, sculptures, handmade jewelry- you name it, he's had it up for an exhibit. I always get so many compliments on my brows and refer all my friends here. I currently am on the monthly unlimited plan and I go in twice a week scheduling an appointment is super easy and convenient. Hands down to Salon Macias! I'll start with Usha (THREADER), I went in with uneven eyebrows (someone else butchered them) I was afraid that it would happen again... Nope. I went in looking busted (aka angry) and come out looking and feeling like a lady. I have very VERY thick eyebrows - she knows exactly how to shape them. She will not touch them if she feels like you need to let them grow out a little more - she is honest and I appreciate that! Now, my hair... my hair is my thing (it's thick, long, and full of body - I've had people cut too much and leave the dye in my hair for way too long, to the point where I got a headache). Rogelio is committed and very detail oriented. My hair was down to my waist and I wanted a different look (I wanted it super short) and he recommended I cut off a little. Carlos has been my hair colorist for a few years--I followed him around Union Street until he opened his new salon. Initially, everything seemed fine--I was looking for a natural look in my honey blonde hair, and brought good color photos to demonstrate what I had in mind. Carlos got somewhat close to the desired color at the outset, but as my time with the salon increased, he seemed to lose interest in the actual service. The hair color turned into a flat, almost one dimensional blonde, a color I have never wanted or suggested. He spent less time on the color and more time outside of the salon while I sat under a dryer. My impression became that Carlos' pleasant disposition is very studied and insincere. He also cut my hair on two occasions when I was unable to get to my regular hair cutter. The cuts were not well-executed, were done in about one-third the time that is usually spent on my layered-cut, and had some visibly off lines on the cut. Maybe he was having a bad day when he undertook the cut, but consider it at best, an average cut. I was frequently soaked on my back during shampoos--requiring that he air dry my back. It became harder to get in at the convenient times that I needed with my schedule--I was usually put off a week or more, even though I rebooked at every appointment. In one instance, it became clear that my time was not really valued, a woman came in with an "emergency" while my hair was being combed out. She had taken it on herself to cut her own grandson's hair despite the mother's wishes otherwise, and needed Carlos to fix it before the mother returned to pick him up. I had to wait in the chair for several minutes while he undertook to correct the haircut. On the one hand there was very heavy, somewhat annoying reminder system involving multiple texts along with emails, yet when there was an issue to resolve, communication was very difficult. I would call, leave messages and send direct emails requesting a call back to resolve the issue, but would be ignored for days or even weeks. In one instance I had a professional meeting, and needed the color corrected from the previous appointment because the two color processes had been done together, which left a large root line at the top of my head. It took multiple calls and complaints before I finally was able to get back in to have it corrected, while on the way to the meeting. In another instance there was a scheduling change that his receptionist was trying to make, it was not working to find a mutually convenient time so I needed to speak to Carlos, and waited over a week for a call back after sending both an email and leaving a message. It was not until I called after the week had passed and indicated that I thought it was rude to be overlooked for so long, that I finally did get a call and a resolution to the problem. Bottom line is, my input on how I wanted my hair was lost somewhere along the way, my hair became a one-dimensional brassy color that I did not want or like, so I have gone elsewhere. read more

Rogelio saved me! I came in with incredibly damaged hair from color and bleach and he's bringing me back to life! He has given me guidance to treat and repair my hair and it worked! He won't cut it unless we need to and always provides his opinion on how to best continue to grow out the damage. For example, I'm going to Thailand and will be in a lot of sun so we're waiting to cut until I am back. He's amazing and trustworthy! Rogelio is magician with his scissors. I have grown getting my hair cut with scissors but not with a electric machine. Since I have moved here in SF I was trying to find the real hair cut with scissors. I went so many places and some places do but they are uncomfortable with scissors and I didn't get good finishing. For me there is differences getting my hair cut with scissors and a machine. Getting hair cut with scissors is natural and I see it after few weeks when my hair grows. I waited few weeks to see how my hair grows after I got my hair cut with Rogelio. Guess what folks, its so natural and in great shape. Thanks man. Beyond thrilled I found this salon and more specifically, Rogelio who is a dedicated, detail oriented artist! Arriving earlier in the year, my hair was in desperate need of some TLC. Split ends, dry, and unruly from the amount of heat from my flat iron, Rogelio gave me solid advice and recommended keratin to save me time, and get healthy hair. Months later, I've gotten my second round of keratin (competitive pricing) and my hair has never looked better. I've gotten keratin before at a different location and it was nowhere close to the quality and meticulous job that Rogelio performed. Sure it's 3 hours, but between the amazing attention, worth every minute and penny for 3-5 months of healthy and easy locks. Definitely won't go to anyone else in this city and cannot recommend Rogelio enough! read more

I do NOT like getting my hair cut. It controls me. I worry about how gross the hairdresser will think my hair is. I never know how to talk to Hairdressers, because im worried they dont want to talk to me. These guys changed me. Such a warm inviting Salon from the moment i walked into the door. Today was my first time to get a hair cut at Salon Macias. The experience was great. My appointment was with Carlos, and I have to say he was the best hair stylist I've ever met for the past 5 years. Carlos was such a nice, sweet guy. He is so welcoming, and makes me feel so comfortable. It's amazing that he could understand what I really wanted for my hair, and he cut it exactly the way I wanted! After stumbling into this hidden gem during the Union Street Wine Walk, something just felt right about getting my boyfriend Alex in here (for his first non-Nice Cuts experience). He just returned from his appointment and was thoroughly impressed! Carlos was excellent! His attention to detail, warm and friendly personality, and talent made this a really great experience. Also, he loved the salon's atmosphere. The staff were very friendly, the space was very clean, and they had offerings from mimosas to herbal teas. He felt that for as nice as the place was, he was really comfortable and it was a non intimidating environment. Also, Carlos offers complimentary clean ups 2-3 weeks out for those in between cut touch-ups. Needless to say - Alex will not be heading back to Nice Cuts anytime soon :) read more

She's extremely friendly, very professional and always does a great job. She understands and knows exactly what I want and I am always very pleased with the results. I've had just a consultation but already COMPLETELY SATISFIED!!! once I entered the salon I was so impressed: everything is just perfect!!! CARLOS is the best stylist I've ever met. I was gonna color my hair from medium brown to silver blonde, but I was so scared that I will lose my hair, because they are so weak and thin. he is an amazing specialist and from his first word I realized that he is that type of person who works for pleasure, NOT FOR MONEY. he explained me that it will definitely kill my hair and told me that he doesn't want to do that. he bleached just a tiny piece of my hair and I saw that he was so right !!! he recommended me to highlight my hair slowly to reach the silver blonde and to make another appointment in couple months because I still have a little bit paint from my previous hair coloring. he also recommended me a shampoo and hair conditioner that will make my old color come off faster, so I can make my dream come true sooner. and the thing that I was really just SHOCKED about is that he went to the store to buy me some orange juice that was really so nice and impressive. NOTE: This review is for Marisha, not for Salon Macias as a whole. Well, here goes... My appointment today was booked for 11:00, and I awoke at 8:30 AM to a text from Marisha, asking if we could change my appointment to 10:45 or 1:00. "No problem," I thought, and opted for 10:45. Before 10 AM, I get a call from Marisha asking if we could switch the appointment to 12. Two time changes. Not a big deal, but I should have seen that as a bad omen. I arrived at 11:50, and was promptly greeted and offered a beverage by the woman working at the front. I asked for coffee, and she even offered to go run out and buy cream. It seemed like everything was going to turn out a-ok. Flash forward 25 minutes, I was still waiting to be seen by Marisha and had not received the coffee. "No biggie," I thought... Let's not let this dampen the whole appointment. I was finally seated by Marisha, who asked me what I wanted to do. I told her I would like to go from dark brown to sassy auburn, but I knew that that would probably be difficult since my hair is so dark and splotchy all over. She just said "well, yeah, that's not really the service you chose when you booked the appointment... That's more of corrective color..." and trailed off. Sensing she didn't want to do it, I thought, "You know, maybe today isn't the day to turn ginger," and opted for an all-over chocolate brown. She began by smearing my acne-prone forehead with Vaseline, which was the first tip off that this was going to be a bumpy ride. She began slapping the dye on my hair in a fashion that can only be described as careless. A bunch of it ended up on my forehead, ears, neck, and cheek. I was sitting in the chair almost laughing at the sheer carelessness of the dye job. "You know, at least it will look better than it does now," I thought. Halfway through the coloring process, she asked me if I wanted a magazine. I declined, too scared to lift my hands from under the frock -- the fear or dye splattered hands and arms was enough to deal with the boredom of staring at myself in a mirror for an hour. She took me over to be washed, splashed my face with water, gave me the most aggressive (and not pleasantly so) head "massage" of my life, then sent me back to the chair sopping wet. She proceeded to spray both my hair (and my face) with whatever hair product she was using during the blow dry, and continued to pull my hair. I'm extremely non-confrontational, and I usually say my hair "looks good" no matter what I walk out with, but for this experience all I could muster up was "it's fine... at least it's all one color." I bounced out of that place as soon as possible. I don't know if she was having a bad day, or if she didn't like the cut of my jib, but I will NEVER return to Salon Macias. Ever. I'm sure they have some great stylists, and I'm sure every appointment with Marisha is not as unpleasant as mine was, but no way will I go back. Two stars because my color does look okay... At least it's not as splotchy as when I walked in. read more
