I have been going to this salon for close to 6yrs. I like both the ladies. They make you feel like family and talk and make the time to check in on you. The services I go for are: Haircut Hairstyling - hair wash & blow dry Color Trim Treatment/s The prices increased by 15% over the last 1.5yrs. Plus tip makes it feel a bit pricy - and when you look at what the changes are to increase the price - there appear to be none. Same chair and interiors, same salon implements, same hours and same products. In fact, if anything, I have noticed that the color runs faster so I end up going every 2 weeks - that to me feels like a pre-planned color treatment ..... make the mix weak so it brings clientele back sooner. Also, lately, there is parking fee. Park in the front along the Main Street, it costs a lot. I would say this salon price is $$ It's not $ anymore. Give it a try. They are good. Before I write my actual review, I just wanna stress how important it is to make an appointment rather than walk-in. I noticed some of the reviews were complaining about how they waited long etc. if you make an appt ahead of time, you wont have to sit and wait as someone who made an appointment walks and and gets their hair done first. I called and made an appointment and didn't have to wait long for my turn. So I haven't had my hair professionally done in three years. I always just trimmed my hair by myself here and there and I'm no pro so you can imagine how choppy my hair can look. Though I don't mind the look of my self-trims, I wanted a change. Going on a trip to Hawaii in a couple weeks (& wanted a cut) so I yelped "salons nearby" and as an elite Yelper, I HAD to check the reviews to see if it was worth it to give the salon a try. JIAN, all I could say is that you did exceptional. I am way beyond pleased with my hair and it looks similar to the photo I showed you. You were attentive and kept asking me if the length you were cutting was okay with me. I appreciate how patient and kind you were with me! Thank you so much!! I will be back! Highly recommend this salon. Also, if you're not liking where your haircut is going, SPEAK UP. These hair stylists will copy the style you want to the best of their abilities but they also need guiding if it's not going the way you want it. Also keep in mind your face or head shape could affect the outcome. When I was getting my hair done, I kept asking if it was done and I was ready to speak up if it started to look different from what I wanted. But didn't need to. I kept in mind that my face and head shape was different from my inspo photo but JIAN did amazing in imitating the hair I wanted. It was 3 years since my last haircut. As much as I don't want to cut my hair, I need a trim to grow my hair out. I figured $35 for a trim isn't too bad, and its with shampoo and styling. For a super cheap price, there were raving reviews for Jian, decided to try that lady out. She was super nice and friendly. I showed her pictures of how I want my hair layered, how I want my bangs. She showed me how much we gotta chop off, like 3-4 inches, which was my faded dyed hair with hella split ends. Okay, I concur. Please proceed. So she did some trimming first before shampoo, since I have a lot of hair to shampoo. That's fine with me. Then I hear this loud snap and saw a large chunk of hair gone, that tiktok song came on. Oh no. Oh no. Oh no no no no no..... That cut snapped me into my teenaged emo phase, I was silent, I didn't know how to react other than to give live updates to my friend about how devastated I was. The whole trim became a full cut. In the end, 6-8 inches chopped off, she said that the length might be short to me but it's still considered long. I looked in the mirror, she got the bangs right, but the layers and length I asked for were completely different. It took me a good few weeks to finally wear my hair down. I just couldn't accept the 2-4 inches that were removed senselessly. Overall, I've gotten compliment on the cut overall. Its not like its the ugliest thing ever. But when you come In asking for a certain style and that choice was thrown out, its very depressing. Instead of going for my usual $60 spot for a trim, I got a $35 cut. I'm not sure if I liked this deal. I've been going back and forth on reviewing this spot. My rating is like a 3.5. I called in for a virtual "walk-in" and they were able to accommodate within 15 minutes notice. I wasn't too fussed with what type or style of haircut I was getting and Maggie was able to help me choose a haircut based off of the pictures on the wall. Once seated, they attach a small plastic guard that covers your eyes so any hairs fall off onto the apron rather than on your mask/face, which was a nice touch. Jian, you are simply wonderful! Today's visit made it worth the effort to find you. I literally called at least a dozen salons from South San Francisco down to Millbrae, looking for the right combination of friendly staff + skills/range of services + reasonable prices. Salon Muse was the clear winner! I can honestly say that the vast majority of the salons I called were seemingly bothered by my phone call, didn't do perms, and/or incredibly offended when I asked for a ballpark price for my 88 year old mother-in-law to get a simple haircut (she has boy-short hair) and a perm. My mother-in-law is fiercely independent, but had just spent 3 weeks in/out of the hospital for heart and back issues. Then, she was homebound for 2 weeks until she could regain strength in her legs and safely use a walker. If that wasn't enough, she learned that her stylist of 25+ years was leaving the country in preparation for retirement. My mother-in-law was anxious to find a new salon, but told me she thought it would help lift her spirits to get her hair done. She was right! Jian, not only did you do a PERFECT job on her hair, you helped my mother-in-law feel more like herself again. It's amazing what a trip to a GOOD salon can do for your mental health :) Thank you, thank you, thank you! Haircut costs $35 and deep conditioning treatment was $50. The price of the haircut was very reasonable! I would save the conditioning treatment for a special occasion. My barber wasn't available today, so in distress I search on Yelp, and could find anything close by. Nope, BAD Yelp! So, I asked my mom. She said you MUST go to Muse Salon, her insistence was not unfounded! I called to make sure they could accept me, she was a sweet and polite receptionist named Taryn. I think they may be the spelling. "Come now, we can help you," she assured me. The fact that she said " help," had me sold. So, my expectation were high. The place requires luck or skill for parking on a street that looks renovated and brand new like a decorated freshly cut Xmas tree. Yelp directions accurate. Walked in and was pleasantly surprised and pleased with the ambience and cleanliness. Taryn, was not only the receiving incoming calls but also a stylist. She pointed to a chair, did a critical eye check and with finger on her bottom lip and studied expression on her eye as I proceeded to describe my end game with my style Im trying. Recommended and was not afraid to offer her opinion albeit negative or positive. I trusted her implicitly. She cleaned me up and with less strokes of the clippers then my skilled barber. Sorry Matt's Barber, I found a new place. And if you are not satisfied with the experience, speed, or what they leave you with, it's cause you're not clear. But don't let this deter you fellas. On a Saturday upon landing in SFO I needed a haircut bad due to my normal barber was extremely busy back home. I discovered this salon upon researching Yelp obviously and made a call soon as I landed and reached hotel. Me and my family have been going to salon muse since 2011 and we always look forward to our yearly haircut with Jian. She's seen me through all my hair phases and is the only person to cut my hair in all these years! (first visited when I was 13 and I'm now 22) I've asked for some pretty unconventional haircuts back in the day but she always exceeds my expectations and goes beyond any photo I can show her.
